Centro Reboots on attempting to hotsync

OK, I've been able to solve all my own sync issues since my first Palm, an old USRobotics PalmPro, but I'm getting my behind kicked now.
My Centro has been great and can normally be synced to either of my PCs or my laptop.
Now, when I plug it into the USB sync cable it generally reboots.  Sometimes immediately, other times not until I press the sync button.
It does this on two different cables and two different PCs and on multiple USB ports (both 1.1 and 2.0) on each of those PCs.
It functions normally, and charges normally if you just use the charger adapter.
Seems like an actual hardware issue with the Centro itself since it is the only common element, but I'm not sure and am begging for  help.
Anyone seen anything like this?
thanks
roger

You had multiple palms? Are you synincg this device to the same username that you had synced your older palm's to?
If so it could be pushing something over to the Centro that is causing the reboot.
First you are going to have to hard reset your device http://kb.palm.com solution id 887 gives instructions
Once the device is hard reset locate your user folder it is in program files/palm/
The userfolder will be a variation of your hotsync id in the user folder you will find a folder that says backup.
Rename that folder to backup.old and then resync your device.
Test the device and see if you still get the reboots.

  • Centro rebooting when capturing video.

    Hi,
I searched the forums, but couldn't find anyone else with the same problem.
I have a Centro, and a SanDisk 4GB Micro SDHC card.
I use the CamCorder app that came with the Centro to do video recording.
Whenever I record a clip longer than about 20 seconds, when I stop recording, the Centro reboots. When it comes back up, the video has been recorded, but it is a pain that it reboots every time.
Everything else seems to function as normal.
Could this be a problem with the SD card?
Also, what other apps would you recommend for capturing video on the Centro?
    Thanks!
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

    Hello GoGo
First check if the video is being saved to the SD card. Go to the camcorder application next look near the record button is on the right and select the drop down menu. Make sure it's set to Palm.
If the video was saved to  the Rom and not the SD card it might have performance issues because it's running out of memory.
Also check if you are running any third party applications the might cause corruption on the device and remove them.
"Could this be a problem with the SD card?" - probably not, just check where the file is being stored to.
"Also, what other apps would you recommend for capturing video on the Centro?" - we  do not recommend third party software. But you are more then welcome to look at the following sites for applications: www.palminfocenter.com/centro-software/

  • Centro reboots when hotsync button is pressed or hotsync application is selected on the Applications screen

I had a Sony CLie (palm compatible) before and was using palm desktop for CLIE. I just bought Centro, installed palm desktop, hotsync worked fine. I had decided to 'copy everything'. All my contacts are now in centro, but now when hotsync is selected, Palm reboots. I rebooted my PC but no use. I tried using hotsync button as well as hotsync application icon in applications screen to the same result.
The other minor issue is how to take the hotsync cable out of centro? its tightly fitted in centro.
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

There is no Reset button on a Centro.
To soft reset a Centro, you remove the battery, wait at least 10 seconds, then replace.
Sending all the Clie's data and system files into the Centro may be the cause of all the problems!
Did you follow Palm's guide to updating to a new device?
How to Upgrade from a Previous Palm device to a Newer One: http://kb.palm.com/ and enter 12926 (General Upgrade guide) or 45175 (Upgrade to Centro) into the "solution ID:" box (lower right).
I'd try a Soft Reset first, check for normal operation.  If it still malfunctions, you need to Hard Reset the device and rename you /Backup folder before doing another Hotsync.

  • IMac reboots when attempting to update OS X 10.8.2

    Hello,
    I have a mid 2010 iMac 27"
    I am running OS X 10.8.2
I have a notification that an update is available and a restart is required. When I click to do this the iMac reboots and then starts to install the update. After a little while the iMac reboots and I get the grey screen and then the message which says my iMac has been restarted because of a problem. I can then log in as normal.
This also occurs when Office 2011 attempts to install a software update.
Anyone got any idea's? I am trying to avoid reinstalling my OS

Try installing 10.8.3 through the Combo edition > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1640 After installing it, install the Office update.
If you continue getting kernel panics, the next start you should see a window telling you that your computer turned off because of a problem, so press "Report" and copy here what you see in the white box

  • Centro and mysterious disappearance of HotSync

I'm using a Centro from Verizon on an Intel Mac v.10.4.11. In order to sync with iCal and the Mac address book, I've been using Missing Sync for Palm OS v.6.0.4.
I recently started up my Mac, and noticed that the icon in the dock for HotSync Manager had changed to a question mark, meaning that the location of the actual application was unknown. I searched my machine and found a folder (in a place I reserve for files I'm not sure I want to trash yet) that contained a previous version of Palm OS software that I had used with an old m515 I used to own. I took the HotSync Manager application from that folder and moved it to the current Palm OS application folder in my hard drive's Applications folder. I received the following error message when trying to start up HotSync Manager:
    Application Launch Failure
The application "HotSync Manager" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "<HotSync Manager><HotSync Manager><HotSyncLib.PPC><>"
I don't know quite what the next step is, since Missing Sync for Palm OS will not launch at all now. Help, please! I know this will eventually become an issue, because my Centro has been acting weird lately, and I'll need my desktop-based software to be the full backup that I need it to be. Thanks for any assistance with ideas on what to try.

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

This has been a slow process for me, since I've had limited time for dealing with the problem. I've had to do lots of cleanup and maintenance on my iMac, and have reinstalled the antivirus software, have backed up appropriately all files that I know to back up (iCal and Address Book), checked to make sure I have backups of third party handheld apps, reinstalled the Palm software that came with my Centro, and reinstalled Mark/Space Missing Sync for Palm OS, and have been synchronizing my Centro for - oh - about 2 hours and counting.
I know it can take a long time for Missing Sync to synchronize, but this is ridiculous! Anyone know whether or not this is officially a crash or freeze, or if I should just let it keep going?
Please help, as I'm not sure what to do at this point. I appreciate any ideas you can throw my way!

  • Color LaserJet 2605dn reboots when attempting any report from LCD. Says Printing, then resets.

HP Color LaserJet 2605dn reboots itself when attempting any report from LCD.  Says Printing, then resets with the green and amber light lit and the LCD screen says Hewlett-Packard.  If I try to send a print job to it from a computer, it says printing, and resets just the same. I've upgraded the firmware to 20071108.  I've rebooted the printer holding down the green and red buttons that didn't help.  I also held down the two gray buttons and powered on which didn't help, it just cleared all my printing stats and cleared my configuration.  I've attempted print jobs via USB, and network with same results.  Admin webpage comes up.  Thanks.

    Hi Pahu,
Thanks for you reply. Here's some additional information because I'm not quite sure how to resolve the network addressing as you described. The router is set up as a DHCP server, using the standard 192.168.1.1 IP address, and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 The starting IP address is 192.168.1.100, and I have it set to allow up to 50 connections. (No particular reason, I think that may have been the default.) The printer is set up to check a variety of connection protocols, starting with DHCP. If that fails, it moves to BOOTP, etc. When I print the network configuraton page from the printer, it tells me the IP address is 169.254.18.32, subnet mask 255.255.0.0, default gateway 169.254.18.32, and the IP is configured by AUTOIP.
In the past, when it has been working properly, the printer shows an IP address of 192.168.1.10X, usually .100 or .101, but it depends on which device I've powered up first. This is what I would expect, given that the printer should be communicating with the router and be assigned an IP address by DHCP. What I can't figure out is why the printer reverts to its internal default IP address 169.254.18.32, and why this is inaccessible even if I try to designate the printer as an IP printer and type in the printer's IP address.
Do I need to set the printer to refresh its DHCP lease more often to ensure it doesn't get cut off by the router? How do I make sure the printer stays on the same subnet as the computers if they're all on the same router? Should I assign the printer a static IP address like 192.168.1.100, then set the DHCP range to start at 192.168.1.101? Sorry to ask so many questions, I'm not a network expert and I didn't think this printer would be such a pain to configure.
    Cheers,
    R

  • Centro + Windows Vista + USB = NO HOTSYNC! AH!

I recently got a brand new computer with Vista, installed the lastest version of hotsync just a second ago, and no matter what i do, the computer will not recognize my phone, A message will pop up saying USB isnt recognized, unknown device installed and then it will search for "preconfigured drive folders"
So of course when i hit the button on the USB cable, the Hotsync app. doesnt even open. I just dont understand what i'm supposed to do!!

jadazangel, what version of Vista do you have?   32-bit or 64-bit?  (Vista Home, or Vista Premium?)
As reported many times here on the forum, Palm Desktop will not sync with 64-bit Vista via the cable.
It will however sync via BlueTooth, if your computer is also similarly equipped.  A BlueTooth USB adapter (a "dongle") can be purchased for your computer if it does not have a BlueTooth radio in it.
Check several of the other "Vista64" threads in this section for help.

  • Palm TX does soft reboot when trying to hotsync

Mt Palm TX does a soft restart eerytime I try to hot sync.  THere was 1 successfull hotsyn then the next time it duplicated every entry in the Contacts List and calendar.  Not it won't hot sync at all.  I am running WIndows XP Pro and sync using a USB cable.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Are you sync'ing the new device to the same username in Palm Desktop as an older device?
If you are, this will cause problems on the new device. When you sync the device, it saves the device settings, 3rd party apps, preferences, etc. in the backup folder in the username folder on the PC. When you sync the new device it copies the contents of the backup folder for the old device to the new device. This will cause corruption in the settings for the new device thus causing erratic behavior of the new device.
    Looks like you may need to hard reset your device and rename your backup folder. Go to http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887 and follow the directions to do a hard reset. Next before you hotsync your data back over you will need to rename your backup folder, to do that go here;
    XP
C:\program files\palm or palm one\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
    folder to backup.old
    Vista
Start-->documents\Palm OS Desktop\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
    folder to backup.old
Then hotsync to your current hotsync name and all your contacts, calendar,
tasks, and memos will come back over.
Show file extensions for XP or Vista
    XP
If you can not view file extensions on your PC I would like you to open a
folder go to Tools-->Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.
    Vista
Open control Panel go to Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.

  • Centro Hotsync problem: two Date Books, second never finishes syncing

I have a Centro. It worked fine syncing for many months using the USB cable. For some reason, now it won't synchronize. All the information in Palm Desktop on my computer disappeared -- I only have my calendar on the phone now. When I try to sync, the HotSync Progress box appears on my computer, and if I show the details, it gives me the following, where there are two Date Books and the second one never completes:
    Package Installer -- done
    Install -- done
    Install Service Templates -- done
    Install To Card -- done
    HotSync Exchange -- done
    Date Book -- done
    Date Book -- synchronizing
    Address Book
    Address Book
    To Do List
    To Do List
    Memo Pad
    Memo Pad
    Addit
    Media
As you can see, several items from Date Book on are doubled, and the second Date Book gets stuck in perpetual synchronizing.
I haven't found any answer for this in searching the forums. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Palm Desktop. I followed advice on Palm's troubleshooting page to rename my username on Palm Desktop and to delete my username from the phone. None of it made any difference.
    Thanks for your help.

check the hotsync log for the 2nd user (2nd centro that froze).
try see if you can find any significant error message or codes.
also try to attempt syncing the 2nd centro and this time change the action of the datebook/calendar to handheld overwrites the desktop.
that if your desktop is good to be overwritten.
it is very unusual to behave this way where both of the centros have 2 different user ID's and both are syncing to palm desktop.

  • Centro Repeated Attempts to Hot Sync then Died

I was running errands and heard a beep on the Centro. It told me that I could not connect for a Hot Sync (which I had not attempted) I said OK and the phone continued over and over to try to Hot Sync.  I took out the battery twice to see if that would fix things. After the first battery out/in, the phone went back to repeated Hot Sync attempts. After the 2nd battery out/in, the phone died. HELP!
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

Hello VAViola and welcome to the Palm forums.
Your Centro is stuck in a HotSync loop.  To get out of the loop, do the following:
    1. Connect your HotSync cable to the Centro and allow it to sync to your Mac or PC to ensure that all of your data is synced to the compuer.
    2. Hard reset the Centro.  This will break the loop and erase everything on the Centro and return it to it's factory default settings.
    3. HotSync the Centro with your computer to reload your data and applications.
    Hope that helps,

  • Centro hotsync with Outlook creates multiple folders in Notes

    Greetings,
This is my first post and I need help!
I just got a Sprint Centro two weeks ago and hotsync with Outlook.  Every time I hotsync, the process creates multiple empty 'Notes' folders named after the sync profile.  (You may know that in Outlook they are called Notes and in the Palm OS they are called Memos.)  The notes I have are actually synced fine.  However, extra four or five empty folders are created as well.  Therefore, potentially I could have hundreds of them after a dozen or so syncs.
    - I am using Palm Desktop 6.2
    - I used a Tungsten E2 before and all was OK
    - I have XP Pro
    - The Palm phone support suggested a hard reset and a new sync profile.  Same problem.
    - Support also suggested a new Outlook profile.  Don't want to do that as I can't afford to lose any data and settings!  Besides, their suggestion did not work and left me with a lot of work restoring data to phone.
There has to be a solution other than giving the Centro up for a BB.  I would appreciate any help.  I must say the Palm phone support has been atrocious!
    Thank you.
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

I don't know what causes this issue but I know how to solve it - ot at least work around it.
First of all you need to backup the existing data that you have within Outlook Contacts etc. You can do this easily by creating a subfolder under Contacts (e.g. called Backup) and just MOVING everything from the parent folder into the backup folder.
Then do another sync with the mobile and see what items pop up in Contacts. From here make sure you EDIT that contact with the additional data and save it. Once you do this, you won't get duplicates.
For some reason the Synchronise app will "key" to a particular user "record" (to use database parlance) leaving the original Outlook contact alone (if it's any consolation it happens on Blackberries too) - and this is the only way I know of which fixes it without buying 3rd party applications.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Edward

You can visit http://kb.palm.com solution id 2630 for the Hotsync troubleshooter guide.

  • Centro Calendar and Contacts do not sync

I have had a problem syncing my contacts an calendar entries for several weeks. I use a Palm Centro.  I have tested with both Desktop and Outlook 2003.  Both have the same symptoms.  I am intrigued by other users problems that have been resolved by removing an Exchange account in Versamail.  While I do not have an Exchange account that I can determine and only have one account in versamail, I'd like to eliminate any possible Versamail conflict.  Is it possible to totally disable or delete versamail to test for a versamail conflict?   I assume I can always reset up Versamail.
More info:  I have the same problem with both Palm Desktop and Outlook 2003.  Contacts and Calender entries do not sync.  Tasks and memos sync just fine.  After scanning the many postings on this site many centro users have the same problem.  I received a replacement Centro in December and calendar and contacts have not sync'd since then.  It sounds like I have a different version of hotsync on the new centro that does not work the same.  Is that possible?  I have Hotsync 5.4.0 on my Centro and Hotsync 7.0.2 on my desktop running XP professional.
During hotsync and in the log file there is no evidence that hotsync is attempting to sync calendar and contacts.  I receive no errors in the log file.  Calendar and contacts are both checked on the desktop version of hotsync with the option to synchronize the files.  On the Centro under conduit setup calendar and contacts are both checked.

Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:35:49 EST 2009)>Hot sync is asking me a question during sync. I have created a new user name. It says there is another device it has in its profile. And wants to know if I want to be able to synchronize the current device with this profile as well.
Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:37:02 EST 2009)>Yes select the default outlook profile.
Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:37:15 EST 2009)>So I should answer yes. My choice is yes or no.
    Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:37:28 EST 2009)>Please select YES.
    Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:37:30 EST 2009)>ok
Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:38:12 EST 2009)>When i did this before with Verizon, I got calendar entries and contacts after the hard reset and then they no longer sync'd.
    Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:38:16 EST 2009)>It is still processing
Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:38:44 EST 2009)>Okay, let me know once the Hotsync is done.
    Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:38:47 EST 2009)>ok
Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:40:12 EST 2009)>I see you are trying to access my pc
    Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:41:05 EST 2009)>Yes I am trying to access it.
    Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:42:24 EST 2009)>it is done
Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:42:54 EST 2009)>Okay, Can you please check the device whether you got the calender, contacts or not and also check the Hotsync logs.
Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:44:06 EST 2009)>yes i have them. But it worked when i did a hard reset with verizon. We need to create an entry in my centro and perform a second hotsync. that is when it fails
Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:44:38 EST 2009)>Please create a new entry in outlook in calender and then perform Hotsync.
    Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:44:44 EST 2009)>ok
Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:45:01 EST 2009)>Before that perform soft reset and then perform Hotsync.
Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:45:09 EST 2009)>The soft reset refreshes the device settings.
    Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:45:39 EST 2009)>ok.
Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:47:26 EST 2009)>ok, i did soft reset and created calendar entry in both centro and outlook
    Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:47:43 EST 2009)>Okay, Now perform HotSync.
Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:48:26 EST 2009)>do i need to do soft reset before each hotsync
    Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:48:43 EST 2009)>it worked
    Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:48:55 EST 2009)>Awesome!!
    Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:49:10 EST 2009)>do i need to do a soft reset everytime
Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:49:35 EST 2009)>Well that is not needed but if it is not synching then perform Hotsync.
Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:51:00 EST 2009)>Is the HotSync successfully completed with transfer of data?
Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:51:08 EST 2009)>Please ignore that error message.
Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:52:06 EST 2009)>Yes the hot sync synced the second new entry into outlook
    Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:52:24 EST 2009)>So i don't care about the protocol error
Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:52:43 EST 2009)>Yes it will just gives that error message.
    Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:52:46 EST 2009)>Please ignore it.
Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:53:02 EST 2009)>can i go back to my original user id?
Michael(Wed Jan 14 06:54:08 EST 2009)>Well I would suggest you to continue with the current user ID because the old user ID is not supporting the calender, contact conduits to sync.
    Don_Marsh(Wed Jan 14 09:54:30 EST 2009)>ok. Thank you

  • 755 Treo HotSync error

I am attempting to HotSync after I had my phone worked on at the Sprint store (replaced keyboard).
"connection setup error (Cnc 1F04)" within "connection setup"
I also receive an error of "unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another app."
I did a hard reset, a soft reset and still I get the same error.
I have rebooted both my computer and my phone.  i have tried switching usb ports, I have also tried connecting with bluetooth.  All of which results in the same errors.

Are the errors coming up on the device or on the computer? If it's the device then I would have the device repaired or replaced entirely. If it's on the computer then it sounds like you may need to uninstall and reinstall the Palm software.  Backup you data first!

  • Hotsync hanging in calendar

I recently upgraded from a Tungsten E2 to a Centro and am having Hotsync issues.
I have installed the software that came with the centro and was able to Hotsync once.  The next time, it hung in the calendar and remained so after 30+ minutes when I finally cancelled it.   I tried again and had to take the battery out to get it to return to normal phone functions.
I downloaded the software off the internet and reinstalled it.  Again - works once, then hangs on all futher attemps.  Often hanging so badly I need to pop out the battery.
I'm getting no error messages, it just hangs.  Help!
    Thanks!

    I think it's working!  Thanks!
I did the hard reboot.  At first it didn't want to sync, so I reinstalled the program again, and it now seems to be working properly.  I've synced 3 or 4 times successfully.
I've reinstalled one app - WeekView, but haven't yet reinstalled my only other app - SplashID.
I'm using Palm Desktop by Access on a windows XP machine
