Cert8.db keeps getting corrupt?

I get this message all the time?
Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.
The only way I have found to fix this is deleting the cert8.db file. This is happening so often that I can no longer use FF anymore. Why is this file getting corrupt? I have plenty of disk space on this machine so that is not an issue.

  • Photos keep getting corrupted in Lightroom Catalog - Help!

Photos in my LR Catalog (usually over a year old) keep getting corrupted.  When I go to a dated folder, a strip comes up with the photos. Some of them are fine, some of them have an "!" on the photo saying "An error occured when working with this file."  So I try to "EDIT IN PS."  It will allow me to choose "Edit a Copy" and so when PS tries to open it, the error message says "The document may be damaged. File may be truncated or incomplete."  I open anyway, and it shows fine 2/3 or 3/4 of the way down, then it gets chunky....like someone cut off the bottom of the photo and bumped it up a bit.  I will attach a photo.  HOW can I keep this from happening???  I have my catalog on a Seagate external drive because my laptop can't handle all the space it would take up.  I always wait until it says I can eject, although it almost NEVER says that, even after being left for HOURS, so I shut down the computer, then unplug the hard drive.  I would love some help, because this keeps happening!!!

I tried opening one of the affected photos directly into Photoshop without using LR first.  It looks like this.

  • Files keep getting corrupted.

Heavily used, shared, files keep getting corrupted. Seems like StarOffice8 or Solaris (not sure which is responsible) doesn't do file locking! If someone opens the file, when it's already open, there's no indication of that! Obviously that can lead to edits being lost. However, the bigger problem is if 2 people save at the exact same time. In that case the file becomes completely mangled and unreadable!
Anyone have some solutions out there?

The Captivate version number is shown at Help > About Adobe Captivate.  But you have to be quick because it's right at the top and the list of credits start's scrolling immediately.  Annoys the heck out of me.
Having Admin rights to your PC is not the same as Run As Administrator on an app.  It's one of the (many) changes to the Vista and Win7 OSs intended to prevent malicious software from gainin a foothold.
If you're in a corporate IT environment chances are you don't have admin rights to your PC because that prevents people from willy nilly installing apps on their own workstations.  However, a good IT Support dude (who usually all DO have admin rights to everyone's computer) can usually configure the security privileges for a particular application to give you admin rights to it.
In the case of Captivate 5x and Win7, the app MUST be set up to Run As Administrator.  Otherwise some things just don't work.

  • Envelope or Indexing keeps getting corrupt even after mutliple imports

Similar to the Mail has Gone Nuts post, the indexing for Mac Mail 2.1 on Tiger 10.4.10 keeps getting corrupt although I am not using a .mac account which is what most of that particular post is centered on. I say corrupt as my inbox will say it has several hundred messages but will only show a few messages. I am trying to clean the mailbox up by moving email, deleting, etc. After awhile I cannot move messages out of the inbox to another folder - even when I try to move one email. I can create a new mailbox for archiving but I still cannot move. I ran the disk permission utility to make sure it was not a permission error. After a bit all the mail in the inbox disappears. I delete the envelope file, import to create a new one, and everything is fine for awhile. Then same cycle. Is anyone seeing the same issue or have any clues as to how to fix?

I got on the phone with Apple. We created a test user account and established an identical mailbox with our ISP. The email was downloaded and then it disappeared again when I clicked on the sent email box. Nothing else was loaded. So I was told it was an OSX issue. Reloaded that and mail seems to work now. Have a few other issues now but making some progress.

  • Why my drive keep getting corrupt?

I have a MacBook Pro 17" (February, 2011). I run it with the stock Thoshiba hard drive for most of is life. One month ago the mac crash and drive was corrupted and it could not be repaired. I tried disk warrior, apple utility tool and fsck -fy. They all said my drive can't be repaired. The drive had no sign of being broke expect from being corrupted. For the sake of getting better speed I bought a SSD since I need to reinstall everything anyway. So I switched my Thoshiba drive for an OCZ vertex 3. Everything running fine for two weeks until the mac crash again and won't boot again. Tools all said again that the drive can't be repaired. I am pretty sure both drive are in working condition. So anyone have any idea why my drives keep getting corrupt? Do you think I am just really unlucky and I should get a third drives?
    Additional info:
I was using Mac OSX 10.8.4 on both drives when they crash and get corrupt.
I use mostly the mac for IOS app development (with monotouch) and play game on it like once a month

how are you SURE both drives are working fine?  Did you try to format and test them on another computer?
Id say unlucky yes. Toshiba drives are made by Hitachi, are the best conventional HD, but they all fail. there are only 3 HD mfg. on earth.
best SSD are sandisk and samsung.

  • Why do disk permissions keep getting corrupted?

The disk permissions on my Macbook Pro keep getting corrupted and I have to run the Disk Utility Program to repair them.  What is likely causing this issue?

If you see permissions appear to be repaired again, it could be among those that can safely be ignored:

  • My ipod keeps getting corrupted and I have to reset it

My ipod keeps getting corrupted, and I have to keep resetting it. I have owned four ipods. Yes that's right. Four. I have been returning them but every single one does this. It is the same every time. I press the middle button when "Music" is selected, and the device completely shuts off when I do this and goes to the Apple icon. If I press play, then it will play songs, but only at random, and I cannot access my playlists. I have to reset the ipod to fix this problem. What's going on with this?
    ipod Nano   Windows XP

Im not sure EXACTLY what would cause this, but if you have had 4 nanos do the exact thing, its either a issue with the nanos being sold at the place your getting them at, like the local store in your area, or its a issue with your PC. I know some people report a issue with a certain malware program that sneaks on there system and causes havoc with the iPod service and in turn causes weird things with there pod.
The iPOd Service is a program that runs in the background of windows and, in basic terms, acts like the "Middle guy" translating things from the PC to the pod.
Scan your system for any viruses with a antivirus program and scan for malware with Ewido http://www.ewido.net/en/download Then download install and run the latest iPod updater on your nano here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

  • Recycle Bin keeps getting corrupted

    Hi Everyone,
Like many other threads here we are experiencing that the Recycle Bin is getting corrupted. We've already tried the basic troubleshooting like remove the Recycle Bin and disabling the Recycle Bin. However every reboot or at a point in time the Recycle Bin
gets corrupted again. Let me tell you something more about the environment to give a better view on the problem.
The problem is occuring on a Windows Server 2008 R2 which has been virtualized on a Hyper-V host which is a Windows Server 2012 R2. The VM exists of two VHDs (not VHDX). One for the OS (which is set as a IDE Device) and one for the DATA (which is set on
a SCSI Adapter). Both disk have the Recycle Bin enabled, but the corruption problem only occurs of DATA (F:\) disk.
We've tried the following approaches for a solution, however with no luck:
    Run the command:    rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin
Configured the Recycle Bin to directly delete files on F:\ (bypass Recycle Bin)
Executed a CHKDSK /f /r (online and offline [VHD mounted in OS of the Hyper-V Host]
Executed a SFC /scannow on the OS
And since all of that didn't give a solution, we've decided to copy all the data from the DATA VHD, except the SYSVOL and Recycle Bin folder to a brand new VHD. Set the NTFS as needed. Rebooted, worked for a day, same problem got back.
So after that we thought it has to be a process/software/service which triggered a delete and gets the Recycle Bin corrupted. So we started ProcMon to give us more insight. But this seemed a bad idea because we can't tell when or reproduce the problem so
    ProcMon generates to much information.
Now before I'm going any further on troubleshooting, I was wondering if there is anyone out there who experienced the (exact) same problem. Or someone that can give a push in the right direction.
Thanks for reading and many thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Joey
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

You may run the command "rd /s /q Drive-Letter:\$Recycle.bin " , in your case the issue happens to F:\ then the command is "rd /s /q F:\$Recycle.bin "

  • Keep getting corrupted temp save file when I save and close.

When I save and close a numbers spreadsheet, about 20% of the time I will be left with the normal file and a weird temporary file with a "~" on the end of the file name.  I can't delete the file or do anything with it.  It will let me open it, but even when I save it still says I cant delete because the file is in use.
    Example-
Work on spreadsheet1.  Hit save and then close.
In finder I am left with-
    spreadsheet1
    spreadsheet1~
"spreadsheet1" is the correct file and it works and functions normally, but "spreadsheet1~" is corrupt and I cant seem to delete it.  I always get "The operation can’t be completed because the item “spreadsheet1~” is in use.
What is causing this and how can I get rid of those files?

I think I would ignore the files and not worry about them.  Are you experiencing any undesirable effects of these files-- aside from seeing them there?

  • Captivate 5 files keep getting corrupted

Our entire office all got Windows 7 (64 bit) and a lot of coworkers' Captivate 5 files are getting the same error message: the file is unable to open, the file is damage, hard disk not having space, etc.
Are we doing something wrong? If so, how we do correct that?
Or is there some compatibility issue between CP5 and Windows 7??

  • Software Updates keep getting corrupted?

I am trying to download OS X Update 10.10.1 however whenever I try to restart my mac in order to finish installing the update it tells me that some part of the update has been corrupted (either Safari 8.0.2 or iTunes 12.0.1 any of the four parts). I don't understand how I can wait for the entire update to load only to have it all be corrupted. This is a 11" 2013 Macbook Air that is BRAND NEW.

  • Hard drive keeps getting corrupted

I've got a troublesome issue with my MacBook this past month, and I think may hard drive is flaking out.
A few weeks ago I experienced some serious crashes in OS X where everything would just freeze. Spinning-beach-ball-of-death freezes. There'd be no way to recover from these freezes aside from hard-rebooting the computer. After a couple of these (within the same day) I ran Disk Utility from my Leopard disc and tried to repair the hard drive. This failed, however, and then left me unable to boot from my Macintosh HD volume at ALL (I had Windows set up in Boot Camp; that was also experiencing some dire crashes). My only fix was to reformat and try again. After I had zero'd out the hard drive and reinstalled everything, it was okay for another couple of weeks.
Now it's happened again, and I tried repairing the volume in Disk Utility only to be met with a bunch of "invalid node structure" messages, a bunch of "invalid thread counts" and what nots; a bunch, like almost 50. My Windows partition is still okay, but I'm sure it'll be a matter of time before it begins to fail, too.
Do I have a faulty hard drive? Or is there some piece of rogue software that is killing my hard drive? I'm inclined to think it's the hard drive itself, because I haven't introduced any new software to the system in a while now, and I'm not doing any radical behaviors that would goof up my directory structure.
    Help!

As a follow up, the hard drive was indeed bad. I took it in for repair and all was right with the world (still is, several months later).

Still unable to download itunes to my pc. Tried with IE, Mozilla and Google Chrome. Keep getting an error message :"Windows cannot open itunes.exe the file is corrupt contact support."previous itunes files were wipped out by "disk cleaner." Any help??
    Please!

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

  • I am upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard. I keep getting an error when I try to load the Mac Os x update combined. It says that it was corrupted during download. Have try loading from Apple website V10.6.7 upgrade combined but it still won't do it?

I have an Intel Desktop iMac and I am upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard. I keep getting an error when it tries to load the Mac OS X update combined. It says that it was corrupted during download. Have try loading from Apple website  Mac OS X V10.6.7 upgrade combined but it still won't do it? Any other suggestions. The printer is not working either - I am not sure if they are connected. Everything else is fine.

Please excuse, but I have to ask an obvious question: Did you already update using the Snow Leopard Retail install DVD? (You must do this first; 10.6.7 is just an update if you already have 10.6.) Are you, then, trying to update from whatever version was on the install DVD to 10.6.7?
Otherwise, I'd keep trying. The 10.6.7 Combo is a huge update.
