Certain apps use battery when not running
I had noticed on my 3G, and potentially on my 4, that after installing certain apps, the battery goes down much quicker, without using the apps, or even the phone.
I realise that certain apps do, by the nature of what they do, use more juice, but felt that even when they are not even used?
2 apps that def sucked the life out of my phone, so i uninstalled where:
the trainline app
and
Nextbuses app
both in the UK. Can't explain why.
Any one else found this? It's a shame since NExtbuses was really handy.
Yes, When you turn on bluetooth you fire up another radio. That radio periodically searches for things to connect to. If you turn it off, your battery will last longer. Not sure if you'll notice the difference. I had a Motorola phone which could go an extra full day or two with Bluetooth off.
If you use bluetooth, as I do, to automatically connect to your car when you get in, shutting it off is not a convenient option. If you rarely use it, then shut it off when not in use.

NFL Mobile App Used Data When Not Open
I used the NFL Mobile App last night for the first time. I connected to my WIFI thinking it wouldn't use any data. But it did anyway. And then during the night when the app was closed it used a whole lot of data on its own. I have notifications turned off. Why should this be using data when not open? And why should it be using data when on WIFI?
To have to go to settings, apps, find the app and then force stop is
a lot of steps just to stop an app. Not really an acceptable solution.
However, I re-installed the app. Opened it to make sure it worked ok. Made
sure my WIFI was on during all this. Then went to apps and did a force stop.
Took several tries to get it to stop for some reason. Later I noticed my phone
seemed to be using a lot of battery for some reason. Re-booted phone to make
sure all apps had closed. Went back in and checked the NFL app. It was no
longer stopped. I force stopped it again. Took several tries. Waited a few minutes
and checked again. It was no longer stopped. For some reason it won’t stop. So
I had to un-install it again.
Not sure why all this is happening with this particular app, but I can’t take the
chance of inadvertent data or battery usage. So it will remain un-installed until
someone tells me the problem has been fixed. It’s a shame as since this is one
of the perks of my Verizon account, I feel I have been slighted. I can’t believe I’m
the only one having this issue.

Will AirPlay use Battery when not in use?
Hi everyone,
i'm pretty new in the Apple Universe (Aug 2012) and...well enjoying it :-)
One thing i was not able to find an answer to is if AirPlay will drain more Battery from iPad and iPhone when activated even if nothing ist streamed or mirrored?!
All the Devices show the AirPlay Icon, so somethings must be looking out for an Apple TV, right? Will this effect Batterylife or just when used?
I admit it must sound stupid to ask such think but im not just new in Apple-World but also curious :-)

You will need to contact the developer of the app and ask if that is possible. If not, you'll need to look for another app that doesn't require a network connection to function.

Just installed iOS7 on my iphone 4. Everything is completely different.... How do I close open apps at the end of the day, so the battery does not run down as fast? It was very easy before, but doesn't work the same way now. Help

I would recommend deleting the app, and then redownloading it from the iOS App store.

Open the App Store on your device.
Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
Tap Updates from the bottom navigation bar.

You could always turn off cellular data in Settings to get it to stop using data while it is on standby. Another option to troubleshoot the issues is to reset all settings, go to Settings > General >Reset > Reset All Settings.

Possible to have certain apps use certain GTK theme??
Hey guys I'm wondering if I can have certain apps use either a specific GTK theme (different from system-wide one in use) or none at all, much like OpenOffice does for me right now (I use a dark theme but it retains a light grey, I'm assuming default theme with Gnome).
Any help appreciated, TIAI wrote a little script which does "export GTK2_RC_FILES=/path/to/openoffice.gtkrc" before opening OpenOffice. I use a GTK theme that make apps like Eclipse and OpenOffice look horrible. So I use a different gtkrc for them.
I'm pretty sure exporting GTK2_RC_FILES will work with any GTK2 app. -
Apps show but will not run after sync

Try a hard reset of your iPod: Press/hold the home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo appears.

I have an app called Astrogold that crashes when I run one function, but no one else I know with the same app experiences the crash. The app writes several different reports, and gives the option of sending them as PDF files. All the other reports generate fine, but one of them....and that one crashes the app while it is trying to generate the report.
Note: it only crashes the display. If I double click the home button I see the app itself is still running.
I checked my Diagnostics & Usage data, and noticed that every time the app crashes a LowMemory report is created. I looked at the LowMemory report and see that the Largest process is Astrogold. But I don't see any reports with the name of the app itself.
I have an iPhone 5c, and according to iTunes I have 2.25 GB Free.

X41 (1866-ED5) Will charge battery but not run from it.
I haven't used this laptop for about 5 weeks.
I plugged it in it started charging from 27% up to 80% like normal.
Then it was slow to charge the next few percent. It got to about 83%
Then I unplugged it for a bit to move it. It ran off the battery at this point. I plugged it in again and it went up to 93% at a normal rate and stopped.
I went to move it again about an hour later and unplugged it and it lost power.
Now it will show the battery in windows but it will only start up and run if it has AC.
The battery report shows it's fine. The battery is not very old and only shows 39 cycles.
What should I try?sounds like a bad battery. you could try running a cycle on it. let it discharge completely and then charge it up. see if there's any change. being that it didn't charge to 100% and it took a long time to get to 83% sounds like there's a problem with the battery.

IMessages for Mac question: stop message pop-up when not running?
How do I keep messages from popping up when the program is not running? Not awesome when projecting from my laptop to large groups and the loving wife sends the shopping list.
go into your notifications panel in system prefs and turn off the notifications for the messages application that should resolve the issue!

ICal working even when not running
I'm not sure if this related to Snow Leopard (which I recently installed) or not as I don't normally shut down iCal.
However, I shut down iCal and I'm still getting the iCal alerts. I have verified that it is not running.
How do I shut down iCal so as to not have my reminders pop up (while I do not have the application running) and why would it give me reminders when it's not running, anyway.Take a look at the setting of "Turn off alarms only when iCal is not open" in iCal's Advanced preferences. If you don't want alarms when it is not running, select this option. Most people, I suspect, do want them - if you want to be reminded of something, you don't want to be not reminded 'cos you have forgotten to leave iCal running.
It is not a Snow Leopard change.

In 2014, I am expecting to be out of the states for a long period of time which is over 3 months. I am not planning of bringing my MacBook Pro with me. As a result, what would be the correct procedure for the battery in order to preserve it in the best condition when I return back and use the battery normally.

I would also keep it with a friend/familymember you can trust to not take it out during that time and play frisbee with it to control humidity levels and temperature and access while unattended. -
Stratosphere consuming more battery when not in use

sorry for slow reply but in order the answer to your questions are: 1. i get about 4-5 hours of idle time off the charger 2. yes i do 3. yes i use the default one that came with the phone, called program monitor 4. this is a replacement phone as my last phone had battery issues as well though it had problems with being active as well as passive but back to the point the phone did not come with a battery
oh and i did the math my passive time is close enough that a geusstimate of the math was that it was useing more. it isn't quite useing more but it is very close
edit: this problem did not occur when the phone was first received i got about 3-4 days of normal behavior and then it went and started this
