Certain apps won't update or download on any device.

I've searched for two weeks to no avail. I've seen similar problems posted but nothing quite like this. I have an iPhone 5s iOS 8.2, a 4th Gen iPad iOS 8.2 and Mac Mini Late 2014 OS X Yosemite 10.10.2. It all started with wanted to download the Pages app. My iPad is old enough it wouldn't let me download it for free so I initiated the download on my iPhone and then promptly cancelled. I then tried to download Pages from "the cloud" onto my iPad. It downloaded 3/4 of the way and failed stated that the app could not be downloaded at this time with two options to continue: done and retry. And now there are a handful of apps that will fail somewhere in the download and some apps that are already installed on the devices that won't update. Any app that has previously failed WILL download over cellular network on the iPhone 5s. I've tried four separate location with WIFI access and these same apps will not download. I've cleared network statistics, restored the iPhone to factory defaults, changed Apple ID password, tried a different Apple ID, and trying to download apps on Mac Mini to sync to iPhone/iPad over tethered connection. The only partial fix I have discovered is to start download over cellular network and switch to WIFI download. Please... any ideas. I feel I may have left out some steps I might have taken so please feel free to ask any questions.

I had this problem and solved it by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.
Note: This will not delete any apps, songs, videos, or podcasts from your phone. It will only reset your wallpapers, brightness, bluetooth, contact sorting, network preferences (still remembers networks though), etc. It's a bit annoying to go update all these back to how yo like, but much less annoying than a full restore.
DO NOT press Erase All Content and Settings. This will delete everything and you'll have to restore from iTunes.

Correct, the iPad 1 can not be upgraded beyond 5.1.1.

See if either of these two things help.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again.

Correct. An app can only be updated under the Apple ID that was used to orginally acquire the app. If that is a problem you can delete the app and download again under the new userid. If you paid for the app you will have to pay again. Your old Apple ID does not go away so there is no reason to not use it to download the apps.
You cannot delete the apps that came with IOS. If you want to "hide" the apps simply put the apps into an application folder by dragging one app onto another. You can do this to all the IOS apps.

Apps won't update on iPad

Arrrrggghhh! My iPad is buggered. I have 36 updates waiting and none of them will update. I'm away for the holidays so can't connect to my computer. I've tried powering off normally and doing a hard reboot (power + home) - nothing. It shows the black bar across the bottom of the app but nothing is happening. I've done the software update to 5.0.1. And when I click on just one app to be updated is says that it can't be downloaded at this time.

I bought a new iPad in 2012. Everything was fine, but now two apps won't update. Message: "Unable to download application. Could not be downloaded at this time." I have 30GB free space. Affects Sketchpad Pro and Adobe Touch. The biggest problem is that I can't use the apps!!!!! I'm okay with using an older version but this update cycle has locked me out of using them at all. Do you have a song or podcast in iTunes that did not finish downloading? If you do - finish that one first. The apps will not update until that download is complete.

You can't all apps are tied to the apple id that was used to purchase/download it.

You may of had a corrupted install. Connect to iTunes backup then restore. Or update the apps on itunes then sync to the iPhone

IPhone apps won't update, iTunes Store won't open

I can't figure out why my apps won't update on my iPhone. I have rebooted, deleted the apps that wouldn't update and froze (waiting) and rebooted after that. I may not have the greatest wifi connection ... I am out of town and dependent on hotel/convention center wifi. Went to App Store to reload the deleted apps (some), but same thing. I saw a response regarding iTunes, went there...took forever for iTunes to open, it kept stating I couldn't access iTunes Store, and after hitting "okay" probably 4 times to confirm that iTunes wouldn't open...it did. So I thought that was the problem and returned back to App Store and tried to reload just one app. Well it's been an hour and a half or more, can't reload it. I would do a restore using iTunes. This will re-install the latest iOS 6 with factory settings, then you'll have to re-enter your settings and re-install your apps. But everything should work after that.

Does iTunes Connect Christmas break mean apps won't update with new folios over Christmas?

I have 2 folios that are due to be released to my app this Christmas - both fall within the 22nd-29th window iTunes have chosen to close down.
So even though I can publish my folios through DPS over Christmas and pre-plan my app description in iTunes accordingly - before the 22nd - will those published folios not appear in my app?

If you're stuck within an app or you've noticed a problem, simply hold both the home button and sleep/wake button at the same time. It's important to keep your fingers on these buttons until step 3.
After a few seconds the red ‘slide to power off' screen will appear, simply ignore this. Ensure your fingers are still holding down the home and sleep/wake switch.
Shortly after you should see the Apple logo, it's now safe to let go of the iPad's buttons. Your iPad should now boot, beware this process can take up to 15 minutes or so.
