Certain keystrokes not working

On my dual G5 2.5 with the white pro keyboard there are some key combinations that won't work.
This is the left "shift" in combination with the "o" key and the left "alt" key in combination with the "l" key to receive a "@" (this is on a german keyboard).
Left shift and alt work with any other key and "o" and "l" work with the right shift and alt.
So does this look as a malfunction of the keyboard? Or could this be system related?
Any insights would be very much appreciated.
Ralf

Hi Ralf, and a Warm Welcome to the Power Mac G5 Forum!
Have the keys been working ok, and just stopped working? If so, it may be hardware fault.
If you haven't tried this already... you can go to System Preferences > International > Input Menu and there you can check the language selection, enable 'Keyboard Viewer' and enable 'Show input menu in menu bar'.
Then you should get a little flag at top right of the Finder menu bar; select it, and then select 'Show Keyboard Viewer' and you should then be able to see what pressing the various keys and combinations of keys on the keyboard will produce.

  • 6630: Certain Keys Not Working

For some reason, my Nokia 6630 has certain keys not working. Actually, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I doubt it's a cover problem, because even when I take it out, the keys still don't work.
The "1", "3", "C", Left, and Up don't work at all, and it's annoying. Some help, please?

The phone is too old and I think it has no FW upgrade in NSU.
I guess this could be a hardware fault. Better if you go to service point.
But before that have you tried a hard reset?*#7370#.
[It will clean up the phone memory, so better back up by PC Suit).

  • Certain websites not working. Tried a bunch of solutions

    Hello all,
I have recently bought a MBP15" late 2013 (running mavericks) and have some issues on the networking side. More specifically some sites (facebook, youtube, google) will not load or load incompletely while other sites ( vimeo, wikipedia, apple etc ) work blazingly fast, with no problems.
Problem details: when I first launched Safari on this mac facebook was behaving a little bit strange, i.e. some pictures were not loading(like profile thumbnail pictures in the feed) but everything else worked OK. This was quite random, and appeared only in some days. After a while, I was getting certain intervals of time (around 10-15min) when the afore mentioned sites would not load(facebook, youtube). After that period of time everything was back to normal.
Today they seem to not work at all. Facebook loads as a text page if you give it around 10mins, youtube displays "page not found".
I tried on Chrome and Chrome Canary and they behave exactly the same, the only difference being that google search only works in Chrome.
Things I tried: I have searched the web and have found many similar topics, however no suggestion worked for me. I have tried: resetting the router, clearing the cache of both browsers, flushing the DNS, restoring the hosts file, changing the MTU both on the mac and router to 1400. I also tried with different DNS servers on my router ( openDNS ) - internet was not working at all in this way.
As a side these websites load just fine on my phone(ios) and on my windows 7 laptop.
Looking up facebook from Network Utility gives me:
    www.facebook.com -> 31.13.84.8
    and ping:
    PING star.c10r.facebook.com (31.13.84.8): 56 data bytes

    round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 21.244/21.309/21.411/0.066 ms
    And on youtube:
    Looking up:
www.youtube.com -> The operation couldn’t be completed. (kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork error 2.)
    ping:
ping: cannot resolve www.youtube.com: Unknown host
Can anyone pinpoint me to some solutions on this ? It is extremely frustating. It had the same behaviour these last days but only for brief periods of time (as stated in the beggining), after that everything was normal.
Also, I have not installed or downloaded anything lately. This seems to be a DNS issue, but I have no idea how to solve it.
    EDIT:
I forgot to mention another weird thing: stuff seems to work normally when I got to my friends and stay on their WiFi. So this seems to happen only on my home WiFi. However, as stated earlier, my phone and windows 7 notebook all work OK on this network.
    Thanks a bunch,
    Andrei

This may help actually: These problems also show up in Internet Explorer and Chrome as well

  • Certain keys not working envy dv7-7304tx

My keyboard will occasionally lose the ability to register certain keys when pressed. In particular, the top row of number keys will frequently stop working. For instance, at the moment the five, six and dash will not work, and fifteen minutes ago none of the numbers in the top row would. The right-side number pad also will occasionally not work. After a short time everything will work again normally, but it happens pretty frequently and can be very frustrating if you need some work done in a hurry.
As I write this, I've tried the 5 and 6 keys and they're working now, but when I started to write it they would not. Has someone else had similar issues? Is it the hardware or something I can address myself?

  • HP 15-d069wm TouchSmart Notebook PC keyboard certain keys not working

Certain keys (space bar, left shift key, z, x, c, v, b, n, m , comma, period, /) and number keys (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9) on the keyboard of my laptop are not working. I already tried to do several hard resets (disconnecting power supply and taking out battery) but that didn't help. I also "uninstalled" the keyboard using the device manager, that didn't work either.
The laptop was bought in June 2014. I'm using an external USB keyboard right now.
Any ideas how to fix that issue?

  • Liquid spill on keyboard. Certain keys not working. Any inexpensive repair? re

Water spill on the keyboard of my Mac Book Air. Now certain keys not functioning. A Mac friend suggested submerging in rice upside down to dry out. Didn't work. Warranty expired. Help!

Yes, the "magic rice trick" doesnt work.
    inexpensive repair? No.
Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

  • Certain keys not working on my Macbook Pro

recently the return, right shift and backslash-question mark key do not work on my macbook pro. I don't believe there was any damage from spills or other physical reasons. • Certain keys not working. (backspace, brightness, volume)

Recently, the keys on my Macbook Air (mid-11') has not been working properly and I'm unsure as to why this happened. I noticed in the keyboard viewer that sometimes when I press the arrow keys or such, the fn keys stick and doesn't unstick until i use my cursor in order to click on the key. The keys such as the delete, brightness settings, and volume are not working as it should. Sometimes it does, other times it doesnt not. For example, my delete key now only deletes from the left to right. Brightness settings only work when I change to setting to when I hold FN to use f1 f2. My volume settings randomly switched me to dashboard and desktop 2. It should be noted that everything works fine when i type, delete, etc when I restart the computer and go

    Hi orangepekoe,
If the keyboard on your MacBook Air is responding erratically, try the following troubleshooting steps:
OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18761
OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM
If your Mac doesn’t seem to be remembering your speaker volume, display resolution, or the disk it should be using during startup, you may need to reset your computer’s PRAM.
Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.
Important:   To print these instructions, click the Share button  in the Help window, then choose Print.
Choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting your computer’s PRAM, you may need to update your speaker volume, display resolution, and startup disk preferences. For more information about PRAM, see the Apple Support article About NVRAM and PRAM.

  • Certain keys not working after formatting......

  • Certain keys not working; Palm Pre

    Hi
I've been having problems with the QWERTY keyboard ever since I got it last week. Occasionally the keys W, R, Y, I and P have just not worked. Sometimes for 5 to 10 minutes or sometimes, and most annoyingly, over an hour. Once I give up trying to type, I'll check back later and find the keys start to work as normal.
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem, had it been solved and what should I do to prevent it?
    Thanks for any help

Have you done a restart on your Pre? If so what about a Partial/Full erase? If neither option worked it could be an issue with the OS and needs to be repaired/replaced.

  • Wired Keyboard Certain Keys not Working?

The keys 3 e d do not work.
It however does work in Bootcamp.
The keyboard was functioning fine yesterday.
I have not spilled anything on it. Restarted my iMac multiple times, changed usb ports, and unplugged everything else but my mouse and keyboard.
    Nothing fixed it so far.
    Lion OS X version 10.7.4

Definitely sounds like a hardware fault in the keyboard to me. I assume it's the same whichever USB port it's connected to? (and if you plug it into another Mac, too)?
Of course, as that keyboard is glued together in final assembly, it's completely unrepairable.
If it's a reproducible fault (and new anyway): take/send it back for replacement. You shouldn't have any trouble with Apple arguing.
