Certain pics showing as black on IMOVIE

I'm working on a project on iMovie and certain photos are just black and don't seem to be transferring properly. Do i have to change the type of file it its. These photos were taken with a professional camera and they are black on the iMovie. The rest of the pictures were taken by the iphone and are fine on the project.

I tried uncommenting a few relevent locales and doing that but it made no difference. It seems like bangarang is the only program doing this to me though, if i looked at the tags in dolphin they were fine and umlauts ect.. show.

  • Certain characters showing as black box?

I'm having an issue with nepomuk/bangarang (well only place I've noticed it anyway). Where some characters are showing up as black diamonds with a question mark inside them.
    I tried changing "locale" in rc.conf to "en_US" and I have both en_US locale's uncommented in locale.gen.

  • Imovie 11 is not showing the photos all phots in the preview window. it either shows as black or teh previous photo, but distorted. Can anyone help?

im working on a project, and have done many before, I have just updated to the lastest Imovie update, and all of a sudden, on certain photos when I add them into the project, some of them either show as black, or show the previous photo, but distorted.
I have tried re-starting and, doing a new project with the photos that dont work in, and they work in the new project, I've also re-done the thumbnails in Iphoto as suggested on other websites, but tat dosnt work either - this is really annoying.
Has anyone come across this or know how to fix it?
    Thanks

Did you by any chance upgrade your Mac OS from version 10.6 (Snow Leopard) to 10.7 (Lion) during the time you were working in iMovie on all these projects?
If not, start by deleting the iMovie Preferences file.
    Go to the Desktop
Hold down the Option key and choose the Go Menu > Library
    Go to Preferences > com.apple.iMovieApp.plist
Move the .plist file to the trash and restart iMovie
See if the Project files react any differently. Failing that try doing a Repair Disk Permissions:
Restart the Mac, hold down the Option key continuously until 2 hard drive icons appear
Choose the Recovery Volume as your startup disk and let it run until you see the Desktop
Choose Disk Utility from the Recovery Menu
Run Repair Disk Permissions in Disk Utility
Reboot the Mac and when you see the Desktop appear launch iMovie
See if the Project files are the same or different. Next step after this is to one at a time take the Project folders out of users/me/movies/imovie projects. Move one to the desktop and start iMovie. Try skimming the projects that acted up recently. Moving one project at a time might help isolate which project may be causing problems. You can also place project folders back in their original location after doing this testing and iMovie will recognize them on the next relaunch. It won't hurt anything.

  • Photos showing black on iMovie for iPad

Some but not all of the photos I have inserted into my movie project are showing as black screens when the movie plays. This starts in middle of movie after a few video clips. Using iMovie on iPad with photos imported from iPhone and slr.

That sounds like a real bug.
When I put photos from our 5D in to iMovie it has been through iPhoto.
And I can see it doesn't put the full resolution image into my album.
Im guessing that they haven't allowed it to take full resolution images; much like the limits of FCP and Motion with different video cards.
So it probably detects the large image and does a quick resize to a useable size.
    That *****!
    You should tell Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/imovie_iOS.html
But have you tried opening the photos in PS Express or a photo editing program, and saving them out from there?
Then they should be smaller I assume,a nd should look fine in iMovie.
Crappy to have to work around, but better then not being able to use photos; or iPhoto round-tripping.

  • When I drag a picture into my imovie it creates a thumbnail but when it plays over it, it shows the picture in front of it and not the picture...and when I go to crop adjustments it shows a black screen. How do I fix this?

I had a similar problem, and i found that the photo was of very low resoluton. As a test I resized the image to a lrager resolution using photoshop CS4 and re saved it as JPG. I imported the new saved image and it seem to have fixed the problem.

  • When I play one of my clips on imovie it shows up black even though I can see the whole clip on my menu of movies when I'm not playing it.

When I play one of my clips on imovie it shows up black even though I can see the whole clip on my menu of movies when I'm not playing it. Does that make sense and can someone help me with this problem?

Long standing problem, much discussion on the forums.  Typically it has to do with incompatibility of Microsoft Exchange email client.  See the links on "More Like this" at right.
    Two solutions:
One is to  zip compress the file and send the attachment that way.
Another is the freebie program "Attachment Tamer" - see

  • My lock screen just shows a black background and a User Name/Password dialog after opening the screen from sleep. How do I get it back to where it blurs my desktop image with the dialog and my account image displayed?

I'm not sure when it began, but now my Macbook Air only shows a black background and a User Name and Password dialog box when I wake it from sleep. It used to show my desktop background blurred with my user name and icon displayed with only a text field for entering my password. I'm currently using Yosemite (OS X 10.10.1) and all updates have been done. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I know this isn't a real problem, just an annoyance since I couldn't find how to change it back in the System Preferences.

I just have to point out that after looking at a related post (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22661092#22661092), it brought to memory that my issue most certainly began happening after I added some DoD certificates to the keychain. This obviously has something to do with it, but it still leaves me wondering what actually causes this to happen. :/

  • Some of my photos in my slide shows (which worked before) suddenly show up black. They are visible on the upper part but not on the screen. What's wrong?

Some of my pictures in my slideshows suddenly show up black. They worked before. I've tried editing to no avail; if I double click the pic in the upper bar it flashes for a nanosecond and disappears again. Since many are from the same place and only some are black, I don't know what to make of it. Help!

    Apply the fix below:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.

Just to make certain, you inserted the original installation disk and started the MBP holding down the C key?  Did the Optical drive reject the disk or did it just spin?  If the former, the lens in the drive may be dirty and needs to be cleaned.  If the latter, you will have to take it to an Apple repair facility.
    Ciao.

  • AVCHD Clips Showing Up Black in Log and Transfer Window

I'm doing some work for a client with some footage shot on a Sony NX5U. I'm trying to ingest the AVCHD clips into FCP 7.0.3 via the Log and Transfer window. I can pull up a list off all the clips in L&T and some of the clips work. Numerous other clips though, just show a black screen and have no audio. You cannot play the video in the preview window, although the box that shows the duration of each clip does show a time for each clip selected, so it must see something there. If I try to add any of the problem clips to the transfer queue, it tries for a few seconds to transfer the clip, then it gives the error with the red exclamation mark and stops. All the other clips transfer fine.
I'm fairly certain that the problem is something with FCP because I can load the same clips into adobe premiere without any issues. I can also watch all of the same files in VLC player, so the problem doesn't appear to be a corrupt file or anything of that sort. I've tried the same steps and had the same results with the files on a memory card and the files copied off to my hard drive. I did receive the memory card from the client and did not shoot the footage myself, so its possible that something was messed up on his end, but the file structure appears to all be in tact, as near as I can tell.
Here are a couple things I've already tried that didn't appear to help
    --Trashing the preferences to FCP
--Switching the transfer codec from Apple Pro Res to AIC
--Changing the scratch disks from an external hard-drive to the internal drive
Any suggestions anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated! I have transferred footage off this camera before with no issues, so I'm not sure why it's having problems now

we're all the files shot in the same format?  Not all formats are compatible with fcp.  If you can bring the files into premiere, you can use the adobe media encoder to convert to prores and then work with them in fcp.  The interface on the adobe media encoder is not particularly intuitive at least in CS 5.5.  I use it for this kind of thing every few months and every time I have to figure it out again.  May be early onset alzheimers, but I don't think so.

  • Everything showing up black in project

So I just installed Final Cut Studio. I opened Motion and start drawing objects and adding text and importing psd files and everything shows up black. The objects are all there but nothing showing up. Here's a screenshot: http://cl.ly/2qh0
Any help would be fantastic. Thanks!

Google is a wonderful thing. This is straight from Apples site:
    Make Your Files Motion-friendly
Motion can import flat or layered Photoshop files. It’s best to work in RGB color at 72 dpi. You should also name your layers. There are certain things (like layer masks) that should be applied directly to layers when you import them separately. Check the Motion manual for more information.
Motion can import Illustrator files, but you must check the “Create PDF Compatible File” option when you save. You can also save your file as a PDF before you import it into Motion. Motion always imports layered Illustrator files as a flattened files.
    Size Matters
You should set the size of your Motion project according to your final output format. You can choose from a number of presets that correspond to common project types such as NTSC D1 (television) and NTSC DV (Mini DV footage). You can also set your own resolution using the Custom option.
    Layers and Objects in Motion
Layers in Motion work a little differently from layers in Photoshop and Illustrator. Motion uses a hierarchy of Layers and Objects. Objects are the smallest unit of media, such as a flattened file or a single Photoshop layer. Layers are like containers that can hold any number of objects. Both Layers and Objects appear in the Layers window.

    Hi 22chill,
I recommend that we delete and re-download the movie from your purchase history:

  • Mini DV to Video only shows in black and white

I bought a mini dv to video from an apple shop so that i could watch films on my tv. I connected it to my tv at home and it worked perfectly, but when i try to connect it to my parents tv it only shows in black and white... both tvs are of roughly the same age...I'm connecting the yellow wire to the scart on the back of the tv to the yellow socket on the adapter
how come it works on one tv and not the other one?

When you press the INPUT button on the remote to cycle through the inputs, is "ColorStream HD" listed? Is "Video" listed?
The Xbox is connected using 5 cables, correct? Red, blue, green, white, and red?

  • I am trying to Show Package contents of iMovie and it freezes at the hr.lprog folder

While doing a virus scan my machine would freeze on the file
    Applications/iMovie/Contents/Resource/hr.lprog/Title-SidewaysDrifting.nib/keyedo bjects.nib.
Bitdefender said to send them the file.
I am able to "Show package contents" of iMovie, and open the Contents and Resources folder. When I try to open the hr.lprog folder, I get the spinning beach vball of death and I have to reboot my machine using the power button.
Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this and how to fix it?
Is the hr.lprog folder just the language files for Croatia? If so, can I safely delete them, or is there more to it?

My guess would be that your hard drive has become corrupt, and the corruption is affecting something about that folder or its contents such that when the Finder tries to display them, it crashes. I would recommend immediatelyrepairing with Disk Utility. Also, if you don't have any backups, now would be a good time to start, before something bad happens.
If repairing the hard drive doesn't work, I would try deleting and reinstalling iMovie.
Also, note that I don't recommend BitDefender. Read my Mac Malware Guide, and if after reading that you want to have anti-virus software, use one of the programs it recommends. BitDefender has performed poorly in my anti-virus software testing, both in the first round and the second round of testing.
