Certain programs no longer work

A re-install after a kernal panic, everything seemed to be working fine except for the following: Safari, System Profiler, Printer Utility and printing to the printer physically connected to the computer. These are the only ones I know about so far. I can print to a networked printer but when I attempt to use the Printer Utility to choose another printer, the utility "suddenly quits". I tried to use the System Profiler to see if the printer was recognized on the buss, but found out that program won't even start. I've tried all the usual, trashing plists, reinstalling, etc. (I've reinstalled the OS three times) and nothing seems to work. I've run Drive Genius and, except for a "volume" that it was unable to repair, everything else checked out fine. I've also reinstalled the printer driver disk that came with the printer and am able to use its program to check for ink levels, alignment, etc. Apparently the computer can "see" the printer to do that but not to print to. Unless there is some obvious solution here I will be taking it to the Genius Bar. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for all the non-response to my problem. I took it to an Apple Genius Bar and after an hour an a half of screwing around with the operating system, it was concluded that the operating system, although reloaded 3 times fpor Apple's web site, was somehow corrupt and, loading it from the bar's portable systems keeper drive as an Archival Install, everything is up and running in like new condition. And it didn't cost me a dime. Try that with a Dell. Kudos to the Aplle Genius Bar.

  • Since latest Thunderbolt Firmware update, most of my third party programs no longer work, is there a way I can fix this?

Since the latest update, most of my third party apps no longer work, none of my photo software, torrent programs, open office, NOTHING!! It is most frustrating - is there a way to 'downgrade' and go back to a previous version of the firmware, or am I just stuck with no apps that work?

They just don't open, and i get an error message like this:

  • Program no longer works when compiled

I'm not really quite sure why, but when I compile this basic RS232 program, it no longer works.  It runs fine in the actual LabView block diagram/front panel.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks

Well, I haven't even created an installer for it yet.  I've just tried to build an application.  The application builds fine and the VISA dependencies are included in the build (along with many others), but the commands I'm trying to send don't appear to be going through the serial port.  I've attached output from NI Spy, and it looks like it tries to establish communications with "Com 6" (the port I'm using), and then hangs up.  There should be commands going back and forth.

  • After reinstallation of Photoshop Elements 12 program no longer works?

I had to get a new laptop. I do not remember deactivating / uninstalling Photoshop Elements 12 from my old laptop, but it is uninstalled (I know because my son is using my old laptop now). I installed Photoshop Elements 12 on this laptop and it worked fine upon installation. After turning off the computer and rebooting, the Adobe account manager asked be to update. It failed midway through and Photoshop will no longer open. Not from the shortcut. Not from the menu. Not from its executable file on the C: drive. I looked on my account and I cannot see how I would decactivate Photoshop Elements 12 if it happens to be activated for some reason on my old laptop.
    So,
    1. first, how do I "decativate" without being able to open a Photoshop Elements Program (to make sure that is not the problem)? And, if it is not the problem,
    2. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall?
    Thanks!
    David

Hi, I tried the reinstall but the restore hasn’t worked. When set up for restore catalogue from my back tly file. It said that it was an incremental back requiring 7 discs but I have only ever backed up to the same back up file. After initiating the restore it asked for the next file but there was only the one file.

  • Some programs no longer work.

After updating to Firefox 14.0.1 , I can no longer download files with Internet Download Manager. The program works fine on other browsers, so I assume that I just need to reinstall it or something. If anyone could explain this to me and tell me how to solve it, I'd really appreciate it.

  • Programs no longer working properly in Safari.

My wife is a teacher who uses a program called EdLine. In this program, she tracks her students' attendance, and grades. Since installing Snow Leopard, she is not able to open EdLine due to a constant EDPUTHTTPERROR message. She is not able to utilize this program on her MacBook Pro or my iMac unless we reinstall leopard as our OS. Unsatisfied with Snow Leopard in the few hours its been running.

    To All in this Thread:
I am an Edline "SuperUser" (a.k.a. Administrator) for my school. The browser compatibility is not the issue with GradeQuick or EGP Web not working. The gradebook uses a plug-in that redirects what appears to be a web address to open with the gradebook shell. The gradebook plug-in is what is not compatible with Snow Leopard - the browser itself is an irrelevant issue.
I have one email in to Edline already, and a phone call will be hitting their queue tomorrow morning when they open at 8:30 Central.
If I learn more at any point, I'll post more.

  • I have found since updating to the new firefox that certain links no longer work. Has anyone else experienced this. It is becoming a real issue.

For example, google search page links or links on certain web sites work in Safari but in firefox they are simply dead.
Clicking on some google search page links takes you to a blank page or one with an error message. Links on shopping pages and credit card sites are non-responsive, for example, to download statements.

Thanks very much for your response.
Its worked like a charm. Still rather odd that the home button doesn't work though.
Have a great day and appreciate the tip very much.

  • Vital Program no longer works after updating JAVA SE - Need help fast!

System Info:     Window Vista Home Premium (Service Pak 2)
              Intel Core 2 CPU T5200 @1.60 GHz
              RAM     2 GB
              32 bit OS
    JAVA 6 SE Update 18 (build 1.6.0_18_b07)
I am just an old guy, not a techie, with diabetes who uses Bayer?s CLUCOFACTS Deluxe for Windows to monitor/manage my blood sugars.
A couple of weeks ago I had a warning message on starting up the program which led to a call to Bayer. They advised me to update my JAVA applications, which I did. Since that time, I have not been able to open the Bayer?s CLUCOFACTS Deluxe for Windows application.
I searched the web to see if anyone had a similar problem. It appears a number of people have the same issue and have not been able to solve the problem. I signed up and logged into the JAVA site to see if there might be some clue . . . the lingo is over my head. I did check JAVA, via the site to insure it was running properly on my local disk.
My gut feeling is a link was broken when the original JAVA was cleaned from the computer in preparation to do a fresh download of JAVA. When the current version was loaded, I was unable to open the application. Thinking it might be a matter of how the programs were loaded, I then downloaded/reinstalled Bayer?s CLUCOFACTS Deluxe for Windows without any luck.
I am willing to give this another go if you have any specific advice that may help me find a solution. Because I am hearing impaired, the telephone is not an option for working through this problem. We have to rely on email.
I need very simplified, step by step, instructions get the program up and running again. (Example: Start > Control Panel > JAVA right click > Open)
I am not into programming or the development side of JAVA; I am just a simple user who needs some advice on how to get the program up and running again in order to manage my diabetes.
Thank you so very much for taking time to help me!
    Jim

    Seems you're [not alone|http://www.health-forums.com/alt-support-diabetes/bayer-glucofacts-deluxe-problem-136625.html] <-- link
Best guess advice is to uninstall Java completely and then install the Java version that came on your GLUCOFACTS (not CLUCOFACTS) CD. Then, from Control Panel -- > Java, clear the checkbox for "Check for updates automatically".
    Good luck!

Oh, it's probably not a CD but the Java folder on your USB device.

My internet connection seems to cut out and nothing loads to even a no internet connection page. This happens at home and work so its not the providers problem and every other device connected to the wifi is working. I realise some programs run with internet but programs such as preview and others close immediately after opening with on explanation
I've also tried resetting permissions and clearing DNS, seemed to be successful for a shortwhile but the problem persists

  • My fingerprint program no longer works. How can I restart it?

HP PAVILION DV7t running Windows 7.  Fingerprint stopped working.  Then I loaded Windows 7 and it doesn't show me even having a fingerprint program.  What can I do to "revive" this feature.  I really liked that.

"Program"? You mean the SimplePass Identity Protection program? Or do you mean the actual fingerprint reader?
I'd suggest reinstalling (it can be found in the Support and Drivers under your laptop model).

  • I updated my Firefox to 5.0 and now my Kaspersky Password plug-in no longer works. Spoke with them and they do not have a compatible update yet, so I want to go back to Firefox 4.0. How do I do that?

I love the Kaspersky Pure Password program and us it constantly! After updating my Firefox browser from 4.0 to 5.0... I found that the plug-in for my password program no longer worked!
I emailed them and they do not have an update yet that is compatible with Firefox 5.0....
So I need to go back to 4.0 till Kaspersky has an update because I am lost without my password program!
    Please help me.

Due to security vulnerabilities, rolling back to Firefox 4.0.1 is not recommended. Firefox 3.6.18 would be the safer choice.
Here's the process to roll back:
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
    Close Firefox 5.
You could install Firefox 3.6 over it (many have reported success) or you could uninstall Firefox first. If you uninstall, do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.
Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, Firefox 3.6 should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.
Note: I haven't actually tried this myself!

  • Photoshop no longer works!

I have a kosher version of Photoshop CS I have been using for the past few years. However, all of a sudden, the program no longer works. I had a message suggesting I uninstalled/reinstalled the software, which I tried, but upon reinstallation it said my Serial Number is invalid!!
Unfortunately, there are no options to speak with anyone from Adobe, nor is there a contact email for this type of situation.
I'm not a paid Adobe "member" but I assumed that upon spending a large amount of money on the product, I would receive some sort of assistance as and when needed, if only an email address to send a query to.
Unfortunately, Adobe seem to wash their hands of any customers that don't sign up to be a member. Poor show.

Would you expect the makers of a power drill or a washing machine to assist you with problems with those machines more than 10 years after you bought them?
Have you even done a Forum search?
Please read this (in particular the section titled "Supply pertinent information for quicker answers"):

Anyway, the issue might be connected to this
Error: Activation Server Unavailable | CS2, Acrobat 7, Audition 3
in which case you would, as far as I know, be entitled to install Photoshop CS2.

  • Itunes will no longer work on my Windows 8 PC. When I attempt to start the program a message says: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Itunes will no longer work on my Windows 8 PC. When I attempt to start the program a message says: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.  I have tried to uninstall iTunes but the Windows uninstaller will not delete the program I get a message that says: A network error occurred while attempting to read file: C:\Windows|Installer|iTunes.msi.  How do I get iTunes to work again?

Whentrying to uninstall iTunes (the first program that must be uninstalled per the instructions) I get a message:  A network error occurred while attempting to read file: C:\Windows|Installer|iTunes.msi. I can't even uninstall iTunes?
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page).
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
Here's a screenshot showing the particular links on the page that you should be clicking:
After clicking one of the circled links, you should be taken to another page, and after a few seconds you should see a download dialog appear for the msicuu2.exe file. Here's a screenshot of what it looks like for me in Firefox:
Choose to Save the file. If the dialog box does not appear for you, click the link on the page that says "CLICK HERE IF IT DOES NOT". Here's a screenshot of the page with the relevant link circled:
When the dialog appears, choose to save the file.
    (2) Go to the Downloads area for your Web browser. Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
