Certain Songs in iPOD won't play!

OK I have a 20GB iPOD that I got in December of 2004, From then until now I only burned my CD's onto it and never had any problems. For Christmas I got a $25 iTUNES gift card and used it to buy 25 songs to put onto my iPOD. The songs played just fine on my iPOD until a few days ago,now when I go to play them in my iPOD it just skips over them and doesn't play, like the song isn't even there. When I plug the iPOD into my computer and open it up into iTUNES the songs that I purchased play just fine. Has anyone else had this problem? Any Solutions or Input? Thank You for reading

  • IPod Won't Play Songs, Videos Reset it, and it's Quite Sluggish

I have a 30GB video iPod (the old version). Everything was working fine until a few days ago, when the power on my iPod ran out because I fell asleep while listening to it. The next day when I turned it on, it said "Connect to your Computer, Use iTunes to restore" So I promptly did that, and it worked fine until I tried to play a video on it. It showed a blank screen, so I reset it by pressing the Menu and Center buttons. Then it showed the "Connect to your computer" screen again. So I restored it, and it would be fine until it locked up again and showed the "Connect to your computer screen" again. I left it alone for about eight hours, and when I tried turning it back on again, it was back to normal.I've seen that screen probably 10 times in the past 4 days, and I've restored it, just as many times.
Here's the list of problems I'm having:
    - the iPod won't play some songs when I click on them. It will show the Playing triangle in the upper left corner, but I hear no sound and the seeking bar doesn't move. I'll often have to click the Pause button, then hit it again to Play it, and then it will play the song.
    - The iPod is extremely slow. When dealing with songs or videos, it often takes a minute or more for the iPod to respond to my button clicks. Its hard drive isn't full, though; in fact I'm only using about 2 GB.
    - Videos lock up the iPod. Just about any time I want to play I video on it, it will show a blank screen and won't respond. Then I have to reset it and I get the "Connect to your computer" screen again. These aren't videos in the wrong format or anything, these are the same videos I've been playing on my iPod before with no problems, until recently.
    - Battery life is horrible. Although it hasn't been fully drained yet, judging from the power meter and how long I've been using it after it's fully charged, I'd guess it would only last about 2-3 hours. I would think it should last considerably longer, as the iPod is only about 3 months old.
Has anybody been experiencing similar problems, or know what I can do to fix it?

I've still had the same problems, but now when I try and turn on my ipod, it tells me to restore. When I do go to restore, itunes says that it cannot find the file needed to restore my ipod. The ipod itself also tried resetting itself, I guess, made it to the menu that asked what language I wanted it in, and then restarted again. This went on for an hour and a half, and I could't do anything. Is my ipod a lost cause?

  • Repaired screen and now iPod won't play

I replaced the broken LCD screen in my son's 1st gen black nano. It looks beautiful! There is a problem with the ipod now though. The iPod won't play. Everything works perfectly...screen is bright and beautiful, click wheel works to move through all menus, change volume, etc. You can choose a song, but the song won't play. The little triangle that stands for play is in the top left corner like it wants to play, but the status bar that tells you how long the song is doesn't move at all. You can fast forward through the song manually, but it won't play.
I have reset the ipod by toggling the hold button and pressing the select and menu choices from the click wheel. I have done the 5 R's that Apple suggests. I have even restored it to original facotry settings. iTunes can see it and re-downloaded all of the music onto it. All of the software on the computer is updated and the ipod software has been updated. Everything works fine except it won't play!
When I had the iPod open and was working on it, there were 2 ribbon cables that needed to be connected, 1 was the click wheel cable and 1 was the LCD screen cable. I have attached those securely and both are working properly except for the matter that it won't play songs. There was 1 other flat copper cable that seems to be glued to the click wheel that I didn't see in any of the pictures in the repair manual. It's not a ribbon cable. One end is still glued to the click wheel, but the other end is loose. This is probably the problem. I don't remember disconnecting this during the repair, although I know it had to be connected somewhere. I reaches up close to where the earphone jack is. Does anyone have any idea where this flat copper cable is supposed to be connected? I would appreciate any help you can give me! Thanks!

Here is the URL for the picture of the copper cable. The dark part at the end of the copper cable is a piece of silver metal mesh that is glued on one side of the copper cable. You can see that it is glued at the other end to the back of the click wheel underneath where the battery was glued down. I vaguely remember that it was connected to something else, but I don't remember disconnecting it because I was so intent on getting the ribbon cables disconnected without damaging them.

  • Songs from Concert won't play in order

I purchased and downloaded a live concert. I can't get the ipod to play the songs in the order they should be played. They are fine in my main folder. But the ipod won't play them correctly. The concert was long enough to cover 3 cds. I created a playlist with just the first set songs and a second with the 2nd set songs and encores. They appear in the correct order in the playlist, but they won't play correctly when I select the playlist.

Is there anything systematic in the order in which the songs do play? For example, is it ignoring the fact that you may have two albums with the same name and similar track numbering and the only thing distinguishing them are the CD number?

  • IPod won't play purchased music from iTunes Store

My iPod won't play purchased songs from the iTunes Store. They play on my computer, using iTunes, through the iPod, but my iPod won't play the songs with headphones, or in my BOSE speaker station, nor in my car using my Belker radio adapter. I've purchased a few songs before, and haven't had this problem. I wasn't prompted, as I have been before, to enter in a password before playing the songs.

i have the same problem, and i looks like there are another 4 or 5 discussion threads with the same prob. my ipod is about 14months old, got one of the first 4th generations when they came out -- have never had a problem, then when i downloaded itunes 6, all of a sudden everything i have purchased since then plays fine on my computer and just keeps scrolling thru and not playing on my ipod. very very frustrating. i have tried everything, right down to a complete restore on it, and nothing helps. also, when i downloaded itunes6, my purchased music playlist disapeared -- i spent 2 weeks and 5 emails going back and forth with tech support because they wouldn't address the issue, and am wary of going to them with this one. i thought the drive or memory on the ipod was corrupted and was going to buy another one, but now i'm not so sure -- is anyone having this issue with a 5th generation? because what it looks like is itunes 6 downloads may not be compatible with 4th G, and that makes me a little cranky. any one find a solution for this yet?

  • I paid for and downloaded a song, but it won't play saying the file could not be found. It says this even when I click on the song IN the itunes store, so I can't even listen to the sample now??

I paid for and downloaded a song, but it won't play saying the file could not be found. It says this even when I click on the song IN the itunes store, so I can't even listen to the sample now??
I haven't kept records of the songs I have paid for, and a number of songs have recently been displaying this message, making me search my computer for them. Most I have been able to find, but this one immediately "disappeared" the moment I attempted to play it after downloading...... how do I either get it back or get my money back???

How did you do this move?  Unless you know what you are doing you have to move the whole, complete iTunes folder.
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

  • I have little exclamation points next to some of my songs and they won't play how do I get them to play?, I have little exclamation points next to some of my songs and they won't play how do I get them to play?

I have exclamation points next to some of my songs and they won't play...how do I get them to play?

I am not an expert but here's my two cents:
The exclamation point means itunes cannot find the music file in order to play it. There are several possible reasons for this, including but not limited to changing the name or location of your music library/songs, or storing them on an external hard drive or device that is not currently attached. The solutions for these are different so let me know if any of these apply and we can troubleshoot.

  • Itunes cannot sync certain songs onto ipod?

itunes cannot sync certain songs onto ipod?
I downloaded about 10 songs then when i tried to sync a message came up saying 7 could not be synced onto ipod?

Problem solved; The files were placed in the wrong folder, and itunes couldn't access them. But thanks anyway!

  • Recently downloaded chris stapleton song and it won't play. what's up?

recently downloaded chris stapleton song and it won't play. what's up?

Delete the track from the iTunes library, allowing iTunes to move the track file to the Trash. Then download the track again from the iTunes Store via this procedure:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
That fixes the problem for many people. If problems with the track persist, go here:
    iTunes Support
and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store.

  • Nano scrolling through songs constantly.  Won't play?

There was some kind of power surge yesterday while my nano was connected to the computer that shut off the electricity. I don't know if this caused this problem but now the nano is scrolling through all the songs constantly but won't play any of them. It also does not seem to do anything when I connect it to the computer. Doesn't update or charge. Help!!

Try reseting it and restoring first. But if that
doesn't work the power surge probly messed it up
pretty well so you should contact apple for some
    repairs.
I've already tried resetting it twice and I am in the middle of restoring it but I'm afraid you might be right. Once I restore the nano and reconnect it to the computer, will the songs automatically re-update? It won't erase my library will it. I restored it on once computer and will plug it back into another.

  • My ipod won't play any music

My ipod won't play music. I tried playing music with and without headphones and when my ipod is in the dock, but it said music was playing except there was no sound. Can anyone help?

Do the headphones work in another device?
Does the iPod play any sound?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset . Nothing is lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • IPod won't play certain songs

    Hi,
I old iPod died during a firmware upgrade and I went out and bought a fifth gen video iPod. I thought it was great but it is having problems.
    1) When playing through playlists it comes to certain songs that it just won't play. The clock says 0:00 and doesn't advance. One can simply skip the song by moving forwards or backwards or going back to the menu. The songs play just fine in iTunes. However more and more songs are now not playing on the iPod.
They are not purchased from iTunes but are loaded from CD. So this is not the same problem previously reported. I have started loading songs back from the CDs but I do not want to go through this again a thousand times.
    2) If I listen to songs on the iPod (the ones that work) and assign ratings, the ratings are not transferred back to the iTunes library. Neither does the play count get update. I do not have it set on manual sync.
I have tried everything in the articles I have found. No luck. I still think the last software for the iPod is a bit flaky...
    Grateful for any ideas.

I have almost the same exact problem. The songs play fine on my computer (on iTunes) but some will be skipped on the actual iPod. When I attach my iPod and look at its library, the songs don't appear "ghosted" out but some have the little next to them.

  • Ipod won't play any songs

Ok, had this problem for a couple of week's now and am at my wit's end on it. My 5th Generation video Ipod will not play anything. With both songs and videos, I select one and it shows the play icon but just sits there with the time at 0:00 almost as if it were paused. I can fast forward through the song but wherever I tell it to play it just sits there. No sound or anything.
The weird thing is that I can play the songs off of my Ipod in Itunes or hooking it up via USB to another device like my xbox 360 just fine. It's just the Ipod itself that won't play anything.
I am using the latest version of Itunes and have tried both resetting and completely restoring my Ipod several times, all with the same result.
Has anyone else run into this or have another solution that might help me?
    Thanks.
    PC   Windows XP

I had my ipod little over 2 years and now it will only charge!!!
the songs dont play at all on my ipod and it makes a weird sound when it wants to play then after a while of skipping songs it wont play and just freezes..
When i come to restoring the setings on the computor it just says that it is being used by another application and wont allow me to restore..
    any suggestions?
    would be much appreciated x

  • I bought a new song, but it won't play on my Mac or iPod. Everything is up to date. I need some help.

  • IPod won't play songs that were lost on my PC from drive crash

In January my hard drive crashed (Win2000) and I lost all the music on my PC. NO big deal, replaced the hard drive and restored my CD's, figured I could just play my purchased music from my iPod.
the problem is that SOME (not all) of my purchased music now won't play on my iPod even though the songs are physically there ... this started after iTunes 6 came out ... but different songs seem to play on different dates ... it is very weird. Today I sorted by "date added" and discovered that anything purchased between 6/22/05 (my birthday, coincidentally or not?) and 12/31/05 will not play on the iPod ... UNLESS I had copied the song to a CD and restored to my hard drive from the CD.
Songs that I have purchased since replacing the hard drive worked for a while, then wouldnt' work, but I could delete the song from my iPod and re-copy from my PC. Obviously this won't work for all the music that I lost though!
Music from this account is authorized for 4 devices so that isn't the problem, any suggestions?
    Thanks!

If you have made sure that both the iTunes and iPod software are current and have deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, try this:
    1. Deauthorize the computer.
    2. Create a new user in the system.
    3. Download the free song of the week from the iTMS in the new user account.
    4. Play the song in that user account to authorize again.
    5. Restore the iPod (using the iPod updater) in the new user account.
    6. Sync just the free song of the week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it does, you appear to have a corrupted iTunes library file, and you should recreate the iTunes library file in your normal user account, and then sync your music back to the iPod and all should be well.
The following articles will help you.
    Authorization and Deauthorization.
How to create a new user account in Windows.
    How to restore the iPod.
How to recreate your iTunes library.
"Music from this account is authorized for 4 devices"
Not sure what you mean by "devices". It's computers that are authorized for purchased music not iPods/
