Certain songs on usb drive fail to play

I have 66 songs on a usb drive. Insert drive into usb port on 2010 LaCrosse. All but 3 play fine but the 3 will show up on the Nav screen for an instant then the next song shows and plays. I know they are in MP4 format but all but 63 play fine. Any idea what is going on here?

Can I assume that it is some of your sister's iTunes purchased songs that are not playing? This may be due to authorization issues that were not resolved on some of them when they were synced to your iPod. If you can isolate one of them that isn't playing, play it on the computer you are syncing with, and when requested enter her Apple ID and password (for authorization), if you then resync that would solve the problem.
If it is the other MP3s that aren't playing you would need to again isolate the ones that aren't and post the information about the format, bit rate, etc. This site that takes them from movies and makes MP3s, do they use any type of DRM. Could you post a link to it?

Some songs in shared library fail to play

I have my iTunes library on an external USB drive connected to a mac mini. The mini shares its iTunes library (iTunes 7.6) over the airport network, and I could successfully connect to it and play all songs on my macbook pro (also iTunes 7.6).
I have just added some songs to the mini's library. They were flac format which I converted to Apple lossless using XLD, a procedure which I had used successfully in the past (when the library was connected to the macbook pro). Trying to play these recently added songs, only songs under three minutes long play correctly. The others refuse to start, showing the 'silent loudspeaker' icon. When un-highlighted they show an exclamation mark. Get info on the macbook pro tells me the songs are there, and they play perfectly well from the mini.
Another macbook pro running iTunes 7.5 also shows the same symptoms.
Other than the length of the songs, I can't see any difference between the songs that play and the songs that don't. Permissions on the music library on the external drive are me - rw, all - rw, but permissions are set to be ignored on that volume (I am reluctant to change this because the volume also contains a time machine backup, which is a bit touchy about things like that!).
Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem, please.

The fix for this is to select the track that show this effect in the iTunes library, and go to Advanced - convert selection to Apple lossless. Then replace all the old tracks with the new ones in all your playlists.
It appears that the Apple lossless files I created recently using XLD have this problem, in conjunction with this version of iTunes/Quicktime. Strange, since lots of files previously created by XLD (possibly an older version?) work fine.
Meanwhile, the current version of Max creates Apple lossless files which work fine.

IPod Freezes/Locks up on certain songs/albums --Hard Drive scratched?????

I have a 30 gb ipod video. The problemS are that it will not finish what it starts. If I play a movie it will work fine for a bit and all of a sudden it will freeze. The video will lock and it will make a screeching noise similar to old dial up internet. Some videos that have played before, when selected now will not play at all. I'll either get a black screen or black screen and then it switches back to the menu. As for music (which is what I would like to use it for) it will also randomly freeze. Certain songs/albums won't play at all. Others will play and then randomly lock up. Some will play and lock up at the same point every time. Some play the entire album without skipping a beat. I'm wondering whats wrong. It's very frustrating listen to this at work and starting to get into an album or song and the NOTHING. It freezez. I can feel little clicks in the hard drive like it's searching or trying to catch up but it never does. I can have a fully charged battery and once this happens it drops to halfway. Sorry about the rammbling-I didn't want to leave anything out. Thanks

I've tried resetting and restarting (whichever one holding menu and the center is) a lot because of the locking up. It will play a song and completely stop-the hard drive will be spinning like it's trying to read and will significantly drain the battery. I can sometimes get it to pause so I can get back to the menu, but there is some serious lag when trying to do anything in this state. Usually the only way to solve this is to "Menu/Center" it. When the movies screech like I mentioned above, I can pause and get timebar to show up and if I fast forward a bit it usually will work again. The songs are a lot less predictable and cooperative. How would I reformat in Disk Utility like you mentioned?

Ipod Nano USB driver fails continuosly

Initial problem: Device not found; located error in USB driver, uninstalled driver, rebooted sytem, found new driver - installed properly able to sync. (No hidden drivers listed in que) unconnect/reconnect ipod and USB driver error returns.(Each time)
Background services running are: Yahoo ISM, winamp, InCD, HP monitor, ATT self support, Logitech quick cam, McAfee, Index search.
Any known reasons why USB driver would continue to fail from dormant state? (unconnected and plugging in)

Make sure you have no other USB drives connected to your computer when connecting your iPod. I have a 4th gen Nano which fails to connect up when I connect it to my other Vista-based PC only if my USB hard disk is connected up.
I need to disconnect my external USB hard drive in Vista to get it to "see" the iPod. Also, might be handy to disconnect other USB devices like printers and your Logitech camera (which I have also connected, but that doesn't have any problem).

Rescue and Recover create backup on usb drive failed

Dear all, I am very new to the backup software. After browsing through the forum for what I can do with the recovery and rescue process, I decide to follow the standard procedure. My notebook is T61 with vista home basic. I did not change any partition configuration or mess up the factory settings. The only thing I did is to update the Think Valtage package to the latest version. For R&R, it is 4.21. I burned the set of recovery disc (1 cd + 3 dvd) and the rescue disc (1 cd). All went very well. Then I started to create a base backup, the destination drive is a Seagate usb drive. Shortly I started the backup process, I received 5 to 6 dialog box stating some file could not be copied from z drive, I just clicked OK for each. Then I was presented a dialog box stating that the operation was canneled. So the backup cannot proceed.
I again checked the forum and figured out the z dirve should be the hidden service partition. But I did not change any partition settings or reinstall the OS, how come some files were not there? Anyone encounted the same problem before?
I got another question. Some posts mentioned when the RnR did the first backup on an usb drive, it will ask whether the drive is set to bootable (although I did not see this step myself). May I know what is the difference between making the usb drive bootable or non-bootable? Since I have got data on my usb drive and did not want to repeat the data copying again, can I choose the non-bootable? If in the future I need to restore a backup, I plan to boot the notebook with rescue cd and then restore from the usb backup. Is this possible?

I don't think the failure is due to usb drive file permission. I reached this conclusion based on 2 observations,
1. The 5 or 6 dialog box which contains the error states very clearly a message like that z:\preboot\xxx cannot be found, where z is the hidden service partition
2. Althouth the backup was cancelled shortly after launching, it did create some files and folders on the usb drive (D drive), they are
d:\boot
d:\preboot
d:\bootmgr
d:\copyfile
where boot and preboot are folders and there are some files inside. The copyfile is a script file, if opened in notepad, I can see that the lines indicate copying files from z:\boot to D:\boot, from z:\preboot to D:\preboot, etc.
It seemed that certain files in z:\boot and z:\preboot cannot be found and they are so critical that backup will not continue without them.

IPhoto Library on USB drive - fails to start

I recently moved my iPhoto library to a USB drive (formatted as HFS+) and have been using it just fine.
This morning I realized I am unable to open iPhoto. I keep getting the spinning beach ball and after some time I have to force quit.
I used Disk Utility to repair the USB disk and it did repair some items, but even after that, no-go.
Any idea what may be happening?
I can browse the mounted disk just fine. It has only one item, and that is the iPhoto Library.

if the iPhoto library is not on a Mac formatted disk - Mac OS Extended (journaled) - you will have unpredictable results
If you drag it back to the internal drive will it work? Can you reformat the USB drive Mac OS Extended (journaled)? - this will erase everything so be sure you have a backup first. Once the iPhoto library i son the correctly formated drive it will work fine

Apple Mobile Device USB Driver, failed install on WIN7 PC

I have a PC with Windows 7 OS 64 bit. Loaded iTunes software on PC. Trying to sync iPhone 3G. Error message: Apple Mobile Device USB driver will not install. Yes, I have internet connectivity and automatic updates are enabled. Thoughts?

Sorry, I'm confused. What do you mean by “leaving all other USB devices disconnected”? Does that include my mouse, keyboard, etc? And does that mean I uninstall those things in the device manager?

I had to reload all my programs after a hard drive problem. Now certain songs are skipped over or only play for a sec or 2 then it jumps to next song. all songs played before. Some are Itune bought and some are my old music.

I had to wipe my hard drive clean and reload all my programs. After reloading Itunes, I noticed that some songs will not play, they are skipped over, or the songs plays for 1-2 secs then it skips on to next song. Any ideas what I did wrong? All songs played before and some of affected songs are bought, some are my old library I copied off of CDs

I want to Format my Zen Touch and reload the Firmware to start from scratch, but I first want to backup my 28 GBs of MP3 and WMA files. However I noticed that when I transfer the files to my hard dri've, all the ID3 Information is gone. Now adding ID3 info to 28GB of files will take days!
Strange. Did you edit the tag data on the player? If so what happens is the tag data changes are made in the Music Library but not in the files themselves. There's only one way to write the changes back and this involves getting a copy of MediaSource 3. You then transfer the files back to the PC Music Library, and use an update function to update the files (the PC Music Library will have the same tag data as the Music Library on the player). One problem is that MediaSource 3 is very large, and not available from Creative as a download. I can try and get a copy to you if you can't find it elsewhere.

Error corrected import from USB drive fails

When I try to import CD tracks using an external USB CD/DVD drive, it fails if I have error correction turned on.

As it says in the flyer that comes with the program, you do not capture video from a DVD. You rip it from disc.
Place the finalized DVD in your computer's DVD player and then use Premiere Elements' Get Media/From DVD Camcorder or DVD Drive to open the Video Importer. Locate the DVD drive and rip the files to your computer and into your project. (Of course you'll need to ensure your project is set up for Hard Disk Camcorder/720x480 before you begin or you'll have problems with your project later.)

MTP USB Drive Failed for N97 Mini

As titled, my N97 Mini is not connecting to my computer (Windows 7 ultimate 64bit).
Phone Software Version 11.0.104.
Can anyone help? please
i tried taking the memory card out, but realising that there is another mass storage inside the phone.

Solved by repairing installation of Nokia Suite. I'm using version 3.3 of nokia suite on a windows 7 ultimate operating system. Needed this step to update firmware.After many attempts I finally overcame this problem by going to control panel>uninstall a program>scroll to nokia suite>select uninstall/change>dialog asks if you want to repair or uninstall>select repair.
*Please make sure of the fllg:
>phone must be on
>MUST be connected in PC Suite mode - If your phone tries to connect to internet or wlan, keep hitting cancel till it asks you to select (PC Suite) mode.
>Windows may try to install drivers and you'll see MTP usb device installation Failed - ignore for now
>Make sure the internet connection on your PC is active
>NOW do the repair-install as described above
>During repair windows will again install your device drivers, and this time you should be good to go

IPod won't play certain songs

Hi,
I old iPod died during a firmware upgrade and I went out and bought a fifth gen video iPod. I thought it was great but it is having problems.
1) When playing through playlists it comes to certain songs that it just won't play. The clock says 0:00 and doesn't advance. One can simply skip the song by moving forwards or backwards or going back to the menu. The songs play just fine in iTunes. However more and more songs are now not playing on the iPod.
They are not purchased from iTunes but are loaded from CD. So this is not the same problem previously reported. I have started loading songs back from the CDs but I do not want to go through this again a thousand times.
2) If I listen to songs on the iPod (the ones that work) and assign ratings, the ratings are not transferred back to the iTunes library. Neither does the play count get update. I do not have it set on manual sync.
I have tried everything in the articles I have found. No luck. I still think the last software for the iPod is a bit flaky...
Grateful for any ideas.

I have almost the same exact problem. The songs play fine on my computer (on iTunes) but some will be skipped on the actual iPod. When I attach my iPod and look at its library, the songs don't appear "ghosted" out but some have the little next to them.

My ipod crashed or skips when playing certain songs

Whenever I use itunes I can play all of my songs, however when I use my ipod nano 5th generation I am unable to play certain songs. When I try to play these songs my ipod either skips over the song or crashes. Both my ipod and itunes are up to date. I have tried doing a restore. I have tried taking off all the songs and reloading them (this just causes a different set of songs to become unplayable). I have also checked all my music files for corruption with software from CNET(they are all fine).

It's hard to say what cause of error is in particular, without a bit of troubleshooting. Where were these problem tracks downloaded from?

Again, I"m not really all of this troubleshooting is worth it since as you stated the problem is only apparent on the older iPod Video, which would point to an issue with that device. You could try and do a disk diagnostic on it to see if there is anything in particular that stands out there. Apple doesn't have a trade in policy, but they do have a recyling program where you can bring your old iPod into be recycled for a 10% discoun towards the purchase of a new one.

Phone reboots when certain songs are played on the music app?

on my iphone 5c, if i try playing certain songs in my music app, they play for a few seconds and then my entire phone reboots. i have a lot of music on my phone and all of the songs that do this are from the same album. it also didn't start doing this until after i updates to ios 8. i've tried looking elsewhere to see if someone else has had this problem but i've come up empty. its really inconvenient because i can't even listen to those songs now. i've also noticed that its only when i have headphones or an auxiliary cord plugged into my phone.

If you are having issues with your restarting when certain songs are played through headphones, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
Force an app to close in iOS
Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

Can I attach USB drive to Airport Express USB port

I would like to attach a USB drive to my Apple airport Express USB port so that I can back up my data on my MBP and have my music stored on it for playing back over Apple TV.
Is there any issues to doing this? As an example, how would I see the drive?

Well, you can certainly attach a USB drive to the port on the AirPort Express.....but nothing will happen if you do this....since the USB port on the Express will only support a compatible printer and Keyspan remote control.
You will need an AirPort Extreme if you want to attach a shared hard drive to the USB port.

4Gb Nano - Vista JPE install iTunes 7.4.3.1 - USB driver not found

Help! I've tried all the re-installs and re-boots. I have a fully updated Vista HPE running on an AMD6200 with 2Gb memory. iTunes installs but the USB driver fails to install when the iPod is connected to the USB - the install program searches has search my hard disks and cannot find a driver when it searches the web. Anyone got any ideas on how the fix this?

Since making the post yesterday the fix was reasonably straight forward. See discussion 'windows vista wont install ipod drivers' posted by Nigel Savage Sep 19, 2007 7:20AM and reply by Brian.
Solution involves putting copies of latest version of usbstor.inf and usbstor.pnf from C:\windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository\'look for newest version of folder that start usbstor' into C:\windows\inf folder. Then re-install driver for iPod via control panel - administrative tools - computer management - system tools - device manager. With the ipod connected via the usb look for the icons with a yellow flash - it should now install ... it did for me!
