Certain video won't run.

The videos that won't run are on the top portion of the msn.com home page. (See screen shot).
The dotted circle continues to run and run and run....., but the video doesn't play.  The other videos on the page run well. I have tried to run them on Lion (10.7.3) and Snow Leopard (10.6.8), but they won't run on either. I have tried to run on both Firefox 11.0 and Safari 5.1.5. Nothing! I have the latest Flash Player, Silverlight, and Quicktime Player installed. These videos DO run on my Windows Vista laptop, so the problem lies somewhere on my Mac Pro. Could it have anything to do with the graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB)?
Does anyone know where the problem lies, and of any fix?
Thanks.

I'm sorry. I hope I don't sound too clueless, but when you say "account," to what are you referring? Setting up a  new user account? I am running as the Admin. with root access, and the only user on this machine.
I deleted the FlashPlayer .plist file, but when I then tried to view the videos, the problem was still there.
Is there any way to identify a corrupted file? I've also repaired the the permissions on both drives, but that wasn't the answer either. Would a corrupted file be found and repaired if I ran disk utility Repair Disk? Is there an app. that can locate and repair a corrupted file?
As you can see, I'm blindly flailing around just trying to locate the problem. I appreciate your brainstorming this with me.

video won't run, telling me to update flash player, click on update for mac won't update. do i need to load flash player and is it ok for mac?

Yes, it's fine for your Mac ...
Most sites such as YouTube require the Flash plugin.
Flash isn't a player per se, but a plugin.
Sometimes uninstalling the current plugin then reinstalling new can help.
Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Make sure and uninstall the old plugin first then restart your Mac.
If you use Safari to view videos, from the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
    Now try a video.

  • Certain applications won't run

Certain applications won't run. Mail, Safari (I'm sending this with Firefox), and now Installer. The disc now verifies although I had to repair the disc earlier. This started when trash-emptying wouldn't complete. Disc Utility from the Tiger install disc found what it called a minor error - a file that was a little too big (don't remember the file) and free space a little too small. Here's the crash log when I try to run the 10.4.10 PPC combo update - after a hint I got in another thread about a problem like this. I believe the same file is mentioned for any of the apps that won't run. If you have any ideas how I should proceed, please let me know. Thanks, Joe

How bad is it to try to install the combo update from the Terminal? Thanks, Joe
    Well, it's this bad:
First off, a disclaimer. I didn't think of this, and I've not tried it from the DVD, though I did check the commands on a booted system. But it looks like it should work to me.
Okay, to use Terminal on the DVD, do this:
First, open up the disk image for the updater and copy the ".pkg" or ".mpkg" file onto your desktop, since that's an easy place to find it. Eject the disk image and make sure the package file stays on the desktop. Make a note of the package's exact name, including capitalization. You'll need it later. Now, open the Terminal on your Mac and type the following:
    cd ~/Desktop; pwd
Write this path down somewhere, and keep in mind that case counts. It'll be something like "/Users/username/Desktop".
Now, take a look at the name of your hard drive. It's most likely something like "Macintosh HD". The main thing is to note any spaces in the name and note the name. I'm not sure whether auto-complete, and all the other good stuff, works in the Terminal on the DVD, so it's best to write these things down.
Now, boot from the Tiger Installer DVD and open up the Terminal app from the "Utilities" menu. Now, you need to construct a command to open up the installer package for the update package. Here's how it should look (without customization):
    "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/usr/bin/open" -a /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app "/Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/username/Desktop/MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.10PPC.pkg"
A couple of things to note: first, the quotes around the first part are necessary because of the space in "Macintosh HD", same with the last part. Also, it's possible that the installer will open up the OS X installer package from the DVD as well. Just be really sure you're installing the update and not the full OS. Also, make sure you customize the username in the last part, just before "Desktop".
Finally, if you've installed any updates after the 10.4.10 update (especially security updates), it's possible that the problem with the WebKit will not be fixed, since the 10.4.10 combo installer may not install the older version of the WebKit over the newer one. In that case, you might have to do the other updates that came after 10.4.10 to eventually get back to where you should be. And all this might be in vain if some other critical file is damaged, but hasn't been updated since 10.4.0.

P.S. -- Like I said before, I haven't tried this, and didn't even think of it. I found the general procedure at, of all places, the Washington Post web site in the comments to a blog entry. Look down toward the bottom.

  • YouTube videos won't run

Suddenly, YouTube videos won't run. Instead of the video you see "You need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player". Followed the link and installed the upgrade but problem persists. Starting with add-ons disabled doesn't help. ???

  • Web page videos won't run

I have a brand new 27" iMac.  When I try to run videos from the Yahoo web page or You Tube, nothing happens.  Video won't run.  However, when I go to the Apple web page, I can run the Apple videos without any problems.

Chances are very good it's an Adobe Flash issue. Apple no longer ships new computers with Flash on it, the solution is easy though navigate to:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/  then download it and install.
BTW you also have 90 days of free AppleCare service,  you can call them and they will coach you through any other issues you're running into. You can find the phone number in your manual.

  • Videos won't run on certain sites

Why won't videos run on the O'Reilly Factor web site but will on the FoxNews site. Same with On the Record? I have uninstalled and reinstalled Flash Player several times. Deleted cookies and cache several times. FireFox won't run them.  The Guest User used to run them but now won't. YouTube works great.

Ok, point given on the ad block plus, however all three systems have ad blockers installed.
    Ad Block Plus (Firefox Only)
and Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 (Firefox & IE9)
both however were disabled on the two computers that are affected, to resolve the issue, I'll re-examine differences between the working and non-working computers.
The Kaspersky addon that blocks it hasn't worked/been updated to work with firefox 10/11
The computer that isn't affected has ad block plus enabled. and kaspersky is again disabled due to incompatability
    All computers have 11.1.102.55+ installed

  • 7.2 upgrade and video won't run

I updated itunes tonight and now none of my video podcasts will run for more than 15 seconds. The audio is fine, but the video just stops. My TV shows do the same thing..... any suggestions??? Thanks,

I have a theory because I am having the same problem. The download page states that video under 7.2 requires 1 GHz processor. (I didn't know this when I automatically updated through Software Update.) My processor is only 800 MHz. I don't know what the video requirements were for the previous version of iTunes but I know my video played fine then.

  • You Tube videos won't run in Firefox, will in Safari!

I can no longer get videos to run in You Tube.  I'm running the latest Firefox and Lion.  All I see are black shapes.  The videos do run in Safari, however.  Fix?  Workaround?  Thanks.

Didn't help.  But thanks.  Would completely deleting Flash and then reinstalling work?

  • Mpg video won't run now

I have an mpg video embedded into one of the pages on my web site.  I recently upgraded to windows 7 64 bit, and to Director 11.5.9.  The video now doesn't load or run.  Is there something special I need to do in either Win7 64, or in Dir. 11.5.9 to correct that?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the response, ginod.  I decided to put the video on YouTube and just link to it from my site.  Your suggestion is a good one, though.  It would work with mp4.

  • Web videos won't run/load... Help please?

So today I went on to watch a YouTube video, and no video actually showed up... Like it loaded the whole page but left out the little video box where the video usually plays. It did the same thing again when I tried to watch a video on Yahoo. Any ideas what the problem is?

    HI,
If you have ClickToFlash installed, that's probably the problem. Go to ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins and move the *ClickToFlash webplugin* to the Trash. If not...
Try uninstalling your current copy of the Flash Player plugin, reinstall new, then repair permissions.
    Uninstall Flash
Install the most recent version of Flash here.
    Now repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Videos won't run

Every time I try to play a video, I get a pop up that says "operation cannot be completed". Anyone know why this happens?

You seem to be having some problems tonight. Siri quit working and you can't play videos. Give this a try. Close all of the apps in the recents tray. Reboot your iPad and then try the videos again,
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Make sure that Siri is still turned on in Settings>General>Siri>On.  If Siri is turned on and still not working, post back with details.

  • Can't get add ons, addons video won't run 'no video support format'

I was trying to download a coupon printer add on, but it didn't download. Trouble shooting video wouldn't play because it said 'no video support format'.

Note that an 'no video support format' error is usually caused by web pages that use the HTML5 media player to play a video and either no suitable format is available or the server isn't configured properly and doesn't send the file with a supported MIME type.

  • Certain Youtube Videos won't load anywhere.

    Hello everyone.
Since a few days (I guess) I've encountered major problems with Youtube. Certain Videos won't load in Firefox. They just won't - they stay at the 0:00 mark and never move. I can see the first frame and I can even scroll through the frames, but it will never play. That isn't the case for every Youtube video, though. Most of them work fine, but a few of them have this problem. And the number of videos having this problem is raising fast. Even videos I could watch perfectly fine before simply won't work anymore.
And really - I am at my wit's end. I've tried every fix known to man (as far as I know). Cleared cache, cleared cookies, updated Flash, Firefox and every other program or plugin I know of, updated drivers, un- and reinstalled both Flash and Firefox completely, changing Flash's settings - but nothing works. These particular videos just never want to move.
And the funny thing is: It's is not even just a Firefox problem. It doesn't work on any other browser of mine. It doesn't even work on my other two computers. Not even on my Smartphone!! Once a video encountered this problem it is GONE FOREVER. I have no possibility to watch it anywhere. But it can't be the video. Because ~120.000 people have already watched it without having any problems.
Yeah, so why am I asking this in the Firefox forum? It's because Firefox was the browser which started it all and if Youtube would just work for Firefox - I'd be fine with that.
So if anybody can help me with this I'd be very, very grateful!
    Regards, Megamag

After re-installing the software, did you perform a "hard reboot" on the machine? It could be that although you installed the updated version of Adobe flash player, the computer may not recognize the updated software until a cold reboot has been performed. Here is a link to a website I went to find this information:
    [[Can't play Online Videos--Here's what to do|http://www.compukiss.com/videos/cant-play-online-videos-heres-what-to-do.html]]
Here is Adobe's website if you want to check to see if your adobe's Flash Player is updated:
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
Performing a cold reboot on your machine will reset the adapters and clear out the memory which will also enable the PC to recognize the new software installed. To perform a cold reboot on your machine:
1.) Go to the "Start Button" and press ''Shut Down."
2.) If you have a desktop, unplug the power cord and leave off for 10 seconds. If you have a laptop, remove power supply and battery for 10 seconds. (I leave mine off for at least 20 to 40 seconds myself.)
3.) Re-install the battery(laptop) and plug in the power cord.
    4.) Boot the machine on.
Here are the links I used for this information:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/102228
    http://www.ehow.com/how_2292987_cold-boot-computer.html
If this method doesn't work, then I would recommend going to your manufacturer's website and see if they can't help you resolve this issue with your videos not playing on your computer.
