  • Certain websites display with text only all on left with no images. Ive followed help page troubleshooting tips. Help?

I cannot seem to see certain websites "full" site. On Ebay...I only see text all piled up on left. If I click thru enough I can see an image but I want the full site. Not the second class citizen version. Also same with Netflix. Amazon is great. I've troubleshooted and cleared cookies and cache. I reset and now I'm using safe mode with add ons disabled but still nothing helps.
BTW...I'm very untechnical. Im using a laptop with Windows Vista OS if that helps.
Id also like to be able to use my amazon prime account to stream videos but naturally nothing shows up.
    Please help. SOS. : )

  • Why Do Certain Websites display fonts wrong in Firefox 4?

Some fonts on certain sites display wrong and I can't seem to fix it. I have clear type turned on. I've attached a link to an screen grab to show my issue. Any help appreciated.

@cor-el That doesn't seem to help the font replacement issue. It's still replacing the standard fonts with non-standard fonts. Right now, Firefox is now using "Helvetica Helvetica Neue Extended Thin", instead of Helvetica/Arial as defined in the CSS file(s).
As soon as I delete "Helvetica Neue Extended Thin" from my computer, it will display the correct font for a few minutes, and then automatically change it to another strange Helvetica font variant. That's the issue...

This issue can be caused by the bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or another (bitmap) font that can't be displayed by Firefox in that font size.
Firefox can't display that font in the specified size and displays gibberish instead.
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or find a True type version of that font that doesn't have the problem.

  • When visiting certain websites, Firefox doesn't display the sites heading and sometimes the text correctly. It appears broken and unreadable.

I've reinstalled a new version of Firefox and set all settings to default, yet the problem still continues. Running Windows 7 and tried several different browsers (IE, Safari, Chrome and Opera) and all seem to work fine. Only problem is with Firefox. The only time it works fine is when I don't allow site to use their own fonts. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just found out problem is with Adbock plus which blocks the certain websites to run fully. If u have installed Adblock plus plugin, go to Adblock plus preferences and remove the tick mark of the website which show only texts.

  • Installed Firefox 7 on a computer running 64 bit Windows 7, and now certain websites don't display properly. Anyone know why?

I suspect it could be related to the latest version of flash plugin. Some websites display fine. Others look like garbage. Any thoughts.

If this were happening to me I would try resetting the System Management Controller.  Next step would be to take it to an authorized service place.

  • Having trouble displaying certain website content

I am currently running firefox 26.0 on a laptop. On certain websites, I am unable to view content. The page will just keep loading continuously and the only way I can view the content is by hitting the reload button every single time. Why is this happening? This is a fresh install of mozilla on a computer that has been reset entirely.

Try to update to Firefox 27.0 that has been released today via Help > About.
You can find the full version of the current Firefox 27.0 release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • How do I eliminate websites displayed in the box on my home page?

There's a rectangular box on the home page below the search box. It has three websites displayed in it . It could be as a result of my visiting certain websites, not sure. I'd like to empty that box. What is the procedure for doing that?

I don't know what ''you're'' talking about without seeing a picture. The default Firefox 4+ homepage of '''about:home''' doesn't display 3 "websites" in the box below the searchcontainer, unless someone has hacked your local storage - that's why I was asking to see a screenshot.

  • Certain websites don't play - add-ons or plug-ins interfere

I've been having strange problems for a couple of weeks. In general, my computer works okay, but certain websites don't manage to play videos or audio while others do. I tried disabling the av firewall to see if that was blocking anything, but it wasn't the cause. Both Flash Player and Java are fully installed, including the Firefox plug-ins and add-ons that are recommended for them, i.e., Shockwave player or Java updates. (Must I keep the old add-ons for Java if they are updated or should I disable them or delete them somehow?) Someone told me it could be my javascript, but that is checked off properly in options.
My CA av program found a "possible" Trojan over a month ago and located it in a particular java file, so I ended up deleting that file and reloading java. When I would go to java.com, it said I was full operational. Then I downloaded a couponprinter and kept getting told that I needed to load java. I reloaded it twice, but kept getting the same message. Yesterday, I woke up to find a message that Firefox recommended disabling a java plug-in because it makes the computer unstable. Only when I finally uninstalled java completely and reinstalled it, did it begin working fully and I no longer get that Firefox message even though the plug-in is installed. Coupons now print fine and my flash player seems to be operating, but one particular websites just doesn't display the audio player (it's a college radio station). I also developed a problem yesterday trying to open up a web pdf which I never had problems with before, but resolved it when I disabled the Adobe Firefox plug-in. Why would Firefox recommend a plug-in if it only hinders the use of websites?
Also, when I first followed Firefox's suggestions, I opened up Firefox in Safe Mode. When I returned to regular Firefox, the colors of the taskbars had changed - they're all pale grey - and I don't know why or how to change them to the warmer version I used to have. The tint did not come as a result of an installed theme or personality, but it's gone.
Anyway, I'm just confused because add-ons and plug-ins are added and then create new problems, when I thought they are supposed to resolve problems. Can you help me figure out how to get the player on the websites to open?

same problem here for the past two days till this morning when I created a new profile and removed ALL addons from the default profile. With the new profile with NO addons, I got to the sites with video that I had problem with and flash player did work.
Now, I only have three addons that have not created the problem; adblock, flashgot, and flashblock.
Create a new profile and check it out.

The characters change depending on the website. I've tried disabling all extensions and plugins, reinstalling firefox and reinstalling java to no avail. The issue seems to be isolated to firefox, chrome is able to display the webpages without a problem. The problem occures following a malware in infection which would redirect goolgle searches in firefox. It was dealt with using Malwarebytes Anti-malware and by removing some entries from C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file.

    Hi,
I tried everything above but to no avail. Windows firewall seemed to be allowing Firefox through without it actually being in the exception list. However, I did remove Firefox but this time removing all profile data too. Reinstalling Firefox seemed to make the websites work. However I then restored my bookmarks, and suddenly the websites stopped functioning again, displaying the random string of characters. Could this be an issue with my bookmarks?

  • Fonts screwed up on certain websites

My Firefox installation at work used to display all websites fine. But starting a few months ago, the fonts displayed on certain websites (that always looked fine before) started looking of low quality. These websites look fine when I look at them at home or with IE.
I've tried working with Tools - Options - Content - Fonts and Colors - Advanced but haven't found anything to help yet. If I turn OFF "Allow pages to choose their own fonts" the problem fonts are fixed, but then all pages display the same font and I don't like that.
I've even tried removing and re-installing Firefox, but that doesn't help. In fact, my computer manages to remember all my old bookmarks without my having to re-import them, so there are some settings files that are not getting erased when I re-install.
Below is a screen grab from BoingBoing.net so you can see what the fonts look like.
Does anyone know how to fix this, or how to re-set all the font settings on Firefox back to the defaults?

Following up, attached is an image from BoingBoing.net showing what the displayed fonts look like.

Can anyone explain what those yellow banners on the top of the screen that say "Internet Explorer blocks websites displaying content with security certificate errors, etc." mean and why they keep you our of certain websites and how you can get rid of them?  (Sorry for the run-on sentence/question.)

    Thank you!
It means there is a problem with the sites security certificate.
There should be a "Continue to this website (not recommended)" message.  I would not recommend doing that unless it is a site you know and trust.
In IE10 you can not disable that feature.

  • Need software to block access to certain websites at night

OK. I'm going to admit it. I've got a shopping compulsion that's somewhat out of control when I get tired at night.
Anyone have suggestions for software or another method to block access, ideally to just forms, or just certain websites, between certain times? I know if I'm the admin I'd be able to get around it, but it would help stop me from buying when I'm not awake enough to make good decisions.
I'm thinking a children's filter would work, but none of them seem to go more specific than turning off the internet entirely between certain times, and that's a bit too broad. In any case, I'm pretty sure I could script just turning off the Airport link for a time if that's what I really wanted.
Any suggestions for scripting the Airport config or other site lookup files (the ones that say ebay.com -> this address), perhaps? That would keep me from getting on with the iPhone too.
    Thanks, and
    Aym

Maybe I just need to make my own scripts... I know if I'm the admin I'd be able to get around it, but it would help...
You might try the script below. It works by looping through a predefined list of text items, comparing each item to the URL of the frontmost Safari document. When a match is found, the frontmost document is replaced by a blank page. A dialog then appears informing you that you've attempted to reach a prohibited web site.
The script below should be copied and pasted into your AppleScript Script Editor. From the Editor's File menu choose Save As > File Format: application. Be sure to check Stay Open under Options. Once saved, the script can be launched from the dock or desktop, or launched as part of a repeating iCal event, with iCal's alarm feature set to open the script file at a certain time each day. Once running, the script can be stopped at any time by selecting its docked icon and choosing Quit from the menu.
    +The script:+
    *property prohibited_list : {"ebay.com", "amazon.com", "shopping.yahoo.com"} --> add or remove items as desired*
    *on idle*
    *tell application "System Events"*
*if exists application process "Safari" then*
    try
    *tell application "Safari"*
*set x to URL of front document*
*set y to every character of x as text*
    *repeat with an_item in prohibited_list*
*if an_item is in y then*
*set the URL of front document to ""*
    *tell application "System Events"*
    activate
*display dialog "You have attempted to access a prohibited web site." with icon stop buttons ("OK") default button 1 giving up after 10*
    *end tell*
    *tell application "Safari" to activate*
    *end if*
    *end repeat*
    *end tell*
    *end try*
    *end if*
    *end tell*
    *return 5*
    *end idle*
    Good luck.
+The script was tested in Mac OS 10.4.11. Leopard and Snow Leopard users' results may vary.+

  • Bold fonts on certain websites - font smoothing woes

    Hi,
I purchased a 13" MacBook Pro last week and I'm having a bit of an issue regarding font smoothing/font rendering on certain websites. I'll do my best to try and explain...
When loading certain websites (mainly vBulletin-based forums, but this happens on quite a few other sites too) the text looks bold and ugly, the same sites look fine on my friends 15" MacBook Pro and 24" iMac - as an example, his looks like the sample on the left and mine looks like the sample on the right:
http://i47.tinypic.com/e7b8ro.jpg (not my screenshot, but my issue is exactly the same)
I've done some searching and other people have fixed this problem using the following command:
defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 3
This basically changes the hidden font smoothing settings which were removed in 10.6, in 10.5 you had the following options to choose from:
Automatic - Best for Main Display
Standard - Best for CRT (1)
    Light (2)
Medium - Best for Flat Panel (3)
    Strong (4)
If I set the command above to 1, 2 or 3 my fonts don't change at all and still look bold and horrible. If I set the command to "4" (Strong), do the usual log out and back in, then I get the correct looking fonts on the websites I had issues with BUT my system fonts and other websites now have a very soft, almost out of focus font, probably due to this being the Strong smoothing setting. Likewise if I set the command to "0" (turning font smoothing off) I get the correct looking fonts on the problematic websites but again system fonts look odd, not nice and smooth (due to font smoothing being turned off)
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I can try next please? Could this be down to the resolution/DPI of the 13" MBP's screen?
    Thanks,
    Verta

Hey! I had exactly the same issue as you! Do you have an addon called WebSecurityKeeper installed into your Firefox, without your permission? Check your Addons list pls. I had this addon and when I uninstalled it, my fonts in Firefox returned to normal.
Its possibly a malicious addon. But I am not sure. I have no idea how it got installed my computer.
