Certain websites will not load at certain times.

Hi,
for the last few weeks, I have been having difficulty with loading certain websites at certain times of the day.  The problem is affecting websites that I've been using for years, such as hotmail, Facebook, eBay, BBC Newsfeeds, Lego website, CBBC, to name a few.  It happens whether I use a bookmark, a hyperlink or whether I type it in, myself.  The page will start to load, then just hang, with the loading wheel spinning.  The page does not freeze and you can stop, go back, reload etc.  Sometimes, ebay or hotmail will load eventually, but there will be no, or only a few pictures and the website will consist of just a list of text headings where buttons and frames should be.
The problem exists in Firefox (3.6.25) and in Safari and Internet Explorer (the latter two are fairly old versions.  Firefox is my default browser).  The problem is the worst around the local afternoon and seems to go away entirely at about 11 o'clock in the evening.  This is way in excess of local high volume times and other image and video heavy sites work fine during the outages.  Other secure (http) sites work during the outages, too.  This doesn't happen every day and appears both on weekdays and weekends.  When I have outages lasting several hours, I have looked on the wider web (Google always seems to work) and I can find no traffic suggesting that significant numbers of other users are having  problem.
So far, I have done the following:
cleared out cookies and the cache.
reinstalled Firefox
restarted the router
carried out a virus scan using ClamXav
disabled all security and blockers
disabled all add-ons
started Firefox in Safe Mode
None of the above made any improvement.  Then, suddenly just before 11pm, everything started working, as per previous nights.
This is very strange behaviour which is extremely annoying and disruptive.  Can anyone help, please?
I'm using a G5 2.7 with OSX ver 10.4.11.  I have not changes the hardware and software seetting for many months (that I'm aware of) nor have I installed any new software (that I"m aware of).
Yours Aye

BDAqua,
thanks but already done.  I've tried an old laptop and although it was loading the offending pages this evening, it was taking 20 mins to load each page.  I need to go to my ISP, I reckon.
Yet again, all the relevant pages go down at around 1700 and then spring to life again at 2300.

  • I don't believe firefox is the issue but for some reason pictures and certain websites will not load correctly. Why?

''Duplicate post, continue here - [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/810160]''
This just started happening a few days ago. When I go to facebook the pictures are distorted and nearly impossible to discern who is in them. I also go to many different websites that do not load correctly. Not sure if it's java, adobe, or something else but it makes browsing the internet not fun. HELP!

I have the same problem. It seems to be due to FireFox 4.0 being unable to load certain embedded content, which Firefox 3 was able to load properly.
I've been having problems loading any website that includes embedded content from worldnow.com, for example.

  • Certain websites WILL NOT load - Snow Leopard

    Hi,
I installed snow leopard a few weeks ago. I had to reset my wireless router to detect my "wireless network" automatically. Around the same time my school website would no longer load. On my public high school's website I access my work email, grading programs, and other important websites linked to the school. I cannot access this website form any computer in my home (including a desktop PC).
I never had this problem before installing snow leopard. Could it have done something to my wireless connection?
    The website is:
    http://www.haddonfield.k12.nj.us

    Is your router's firmware up-to-date?
The fact that none of your computers can access the site suggests a problem with the router itself.
Do you have a separate modem? If so, have you tried using any of the computers with just the modem to see if the page loads?

  • Some websites will not load in FF. Same websites will load in IE.

Certain websites will not load in FF, but will load in IE. FF starts to try to load the page, but then stops and "Done" appears in the lower left corner of the screen, which displays as a white, blank page.

  • One website will not load on any browser, will work on mobile phone

One website will not load on any browser (Firefox, IE, Chrome). Have turned off all security programs and firewalls, have tried in Safe Mode, will not load. It works on my smartphone. Can load the basic site, but not the sign-in page. Says Connected at the bottom of the page, but says Connecting at the top, and the little circle goes around counter clockwise; ran for one hour, still didn't load. It used to load, don't know if I did something or downloaded some program to make it stop.

You can try to access the website in a New Private Window.

  • Certain pages will not load correctly (Low bandwidth)

All of a sudden, some web pages in firefox will NOT load up correctly. They seem to be low bandwidth or mobile versions of the actual page. My home page, including ebay and a few others are starting to do that. It is only characters, without images or pictures, and everything seems enlarged on the webpage. Ebay has fixed itself however other pages remain like this. Google chrome displays them correctly. What is going on? (ive put ONE of the pages below)

Check the version of Pages that you have. Many users are finding problems with the iWork apps in Snow Leopard due to not having the latest updates as of the September 28 installed. For iWork '09 it's Pages 4.0.2 & Numbers 2.0.2. iWork '09 has since had update 3. I don't use Keynote, but it should also be updated. If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work. You also should consider updating Snow Leopard to 10.6.1.
After applying all of the updates use Disk Utility to repair permission.

  • A specific set of websites will not load.

Operating a Time Capsule behind a cable modem, I now find a very specific set of websites (those that I manage) will not load.  We had a power outage yesterday which did something to my home network I think.
I have rebooted modem and Time Capsule a number of times.  I have tried access from 2 mac mini's, one iPad and one iPhone.
IF I direct connect a mac mini to the modem with a cable, I can access the sites.  If I leave the house and work on another wireless network, I can access the sites.  I checked the sites from that network -- they are NOT blocking any IP's.
If I try to access the sites through the Time Capsule, I cannot.
I think I just (inadvertently) did a full reset of the Time Capsule -- I had to re-define my network.  (Although it seemed to remember some things ...  )
SO, I have concluded there is something with the Time Capsule and likely DNS that is preventing my access.  I tried simply changing DNS to public DNS servers (like Google) but that did nothing.
Best thoughts on how to overcome this?

Your best bet may be to purposely reset your TC to factory defaults and then set it up again.
One thing to try from within your home LAN to see if DNS or connectivity is a problem is to simply open a terminal and "ping" the IP address of your webserver.  If you can ping the webserver by IP then you are able to reach it on the Internet.  Then try to ping the webserver by fully qualified server and domain name (i.e. www.example.com).  If ping resolves the name to the IP of your web server then you are fine with DNS as well.  If either of those basic tests fail to resolve the server and receive a reply, then you indeed have some other issue with your TC or internal network.

  • One website will not load.

Very frustrated!  Key.com will not load in safari or firefox.  I've reset safari, re-booted mac and modem.  It's just hat one website.  Did I do something to block it out???
    Thanks,
    Kim

I have run into this issue as well. But, with different sites. Specific sites will not load.
The sites I run into issue with are Apple.com and Google.com and recently Bing.com.
Here is what I have run into on my macbook air since the latest update. I leave my air on 24/7 just close it open it up and go. When you close your air or it goes to sleep it shuts off wifi and has to reconnect upon waking. The issue happens when I reconnect to the wifi.
Upon reconnection apple.com and google.com will not load, other sites load without issue. And randomly google switched with bing.com one time where google would load but bing would not. I had to use bing because google would not load.
When I reboot the websites load without issues until the system sleeps and wakes again same problem.
I tested in Safari, Firefox, and Chrome same problem, I cleared cookies same problem, I reinstalled browsers same problem.
I tested the sites on my windows system sites work without issue through the same router. Tested my windows system wireless and wired sites work. Tested on my android phone sites work over wifi. Used Chrome, FF on windows and opera on Android sites work on all of these. While simulataneously the sites do not load at all on the air.
To make matters more confusing I go to work or a friends test the air on their wifi and the sites work.
For some reason with my router, wifi, google.com, apple.com, on wake only, and my air OSX latest version with latest update these sites do not load no matter the browser.
I checked for malware and viruses as this would have been a likely culprit found nothing.
Anyone have any ideas, any diagnostic tools you think I should try run.
I checked my router I have nothing is set up that I can see that would be blocking just these sites and just on my air. I am still researching diagnosing but, this one is odd and seems somewhat similar to this issue.

  • Websites will not load in Firefox for Android Lollipop unless Request Desktop Site is selected.

Starting on March 20th, both my Nexus 4 and my Nvidia Shield tablet will not load past around 15% for any website unless I select Request Desktop Site. This only seems to be a problem when the devices are connected through wireless data. Wi-Fi is unaffected by this issue.
I've force stopped Firefox, I've cleared data and cache, and I've removed / re-installed Firefox. i've also rebooted the devices a few times. Google Chrome is also working fine.

Build 36.0.3 Just arrived on my device and seems to have corrected the problem.
UPDATE: This only lasted for the rest of the night. By the next day, the issue had returned.

  • Some websites will not load.

I have checked around on the internet but could not find an answer. I'm having issues loading two websites, that I used to go to all the time. The websites paintstik.com and thefwoosh.com. When I try loading them, it just gives me the whole page cannot be found bit. It is not my internet, as they will not load no matter where I go. Also, I don't believe it is the browser, as it will not load on Safari, Firefox, or Explorer. Please help. The answers I did find all pertained to PC, and even those didn't seem to help the issue for the person asking.

Then perhaps the problem is your connection. Are you using wireless or dialup? Either one can cause problems. If you're using wireless, try turning that off and connecting via Ethernet directly to your modem.

  • Apple websites will not load

    Hello!
Is anyone else having trouble loading Apple websites on their MBP since the launch of Mountain Lion? I don't understand, my MBP will not load Apple Store websites or the Apple Community Website, however my iPhone works seemlessly.
    Please help!
Also moone has seemed to be able to suggest why the 'tabs' section at the top of Safari is not loading open tabs on my iPhone.
I must be having some really bad luck with ML.

They are Google's public DNS server addresses (the ones I posted were from the "Open DNS" project).  They handle domain names (like apple.com), which always has an IP number associated:
so if you go to http://17.149.160.49 you'll arrive at http://www.apple.com and vice versa.
Usually your ISP has their own and sends the addresses to your router (or you can fill them in yourself, or use Open DNS or Google' DNS instead), which in your case didn't seem to work too well.  The Wikipedia article on Google should give you a rough idea.

  • Only one website will not load.

There is one specific website that will not load for me. It will not load on IE, Chrome or Firefox. But it works on any browser on my phone or on my families laptops.
The website loads a blank white screen and when I view the source code there is nothing except the line number 1 and a blank line.
To access this page I click on a link, I have tried opening in the same tab, new tab, new window, new private window but to no avail. I have given the website every possible permission I can, allowed everything to run on the page. There are no add ons, no cookies, no temporary history and hardware acceleration has been disabled. But nothing solves the issue that I have. After reading questions looking for help none of the generic answers provides any help then what I have already done.

If it won't open on your PC then it's not a Firefox issue and we really can't help you with your issue.

  • One website will not load suddenly

All of a sudden one website that i frequently visit will not load on my Apple Extreme network with any of my computers and devices. I can load the website if i'm at work or off the home network. Why is this happening? If i connect to the cable providers modem, i can access the site. As soon as i plug back into the Airport Extreme, i cannot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

These are really hard to figure out.
What firmware is on the AE? Did it recently upgrade?
I suggest you downgrade firmware.. 7.6.1 is usually more reliable.
If it is an old AE then even 7.5.2 might be worth a try.
Also just do a factory reset on the AE and see if you get any improvement after redoing the setup.

  • Website will not load

My website www.myroomtone.com works fine in Safari and Chrome but it is not opening. When I type in the website, it changes it to http://www.myroomtone.com/js/arial.js - hence page error 404
I'm on firefox 33.1 Macbook Pro.
    Any idea?
I realized it also happen to certain website but I could ignore those but not my own site.

    Hello,
Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], choose History, and then "Clear Recent History...".
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the "Clear Now" button.
Further information can be found in the [[Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox]] article.

  • My laptop died last night and the date and time was set for 1/1/2000. I went to change the date and time and cannot. For some reason when i pull up system preferences it will not load date and time but will load other stuff. Please help.

Last night my laptop died and the time and date was reset. I cannot acess date and time preferences to change it and my laptop is acting really weird. My CD drive is broken so there are no options to put in a cd. Please someone help i need my laptop for school and cannot afford another.

Many system actions will misbehave, given an inaccurate date. Resetting the NVRAM and / or SMC will not fix it, and if the system has a preposterous date you may not be able to open System Preferences to correct it. This dilemma may or may not be addressed in a future OS X update.
If you cannot open System Preferences you can reset your system date and time using Terminal.
Please read everything that follows before proceeding. Write them down if necessary because the effects of setting a preposterous system date are unpredictable.
Quit System Preferences, force quit if necessary: OS X: How to quit an unresponsive application using Force Quit
Open Terminal - it is in your Utilities folder and looks like this
You can find Terminal by using the Finder's Go menu and choosing Utilities, then double-click the Terminal icon.
At the prompt, you will be typing a command resembling the following:
    sudo date mmddhhnnyyyy
... but you must substitute the actual date and time in the command that corresponds to the date format used for your location. In other words if your custom is to use a date like 8 February 2014 then reverse the mm and dd values.
Substitute numerals in the above command according to the following:
    mm = month
    dd = date
hh = hour (24 hour format)
nn = minutes past the hour
    yyyy = year
Each of those values must be two digits except for the year which can be two or four digits. As an example if the current date and time is February 8, 2014 at 9 PM your command will be the following:
    sudo date 020821002014
    or
    sudo date 0208210014
Either one will work. If you enter nonsensical values the system will attempt to parse the entry correctly.
To recover from your inability to use System Preferences to set the date and time, the value entered does not have to be precise, it just has to be approximate.
Enter that command using the actual time and date for your location and in the appropriate format, then press the Return key. Terminal will ask for your Admin Password - the same one you use when you log in to your Mac. Type it and then press the Return key. What you type will not appear, not even with •••• characters.
To determine if your change was effective just type the date command and press the Return key. Terminal will reply with the date and time. If it appears correct and in the correct format, you should be able to open System Preferences > Date & Time once again. Selecting the "Set time and date automatically" and choosing an appropriate time server will adjust your Mac's system clock to the precise time.
