Certain windows profile won't recognize java update

Hi, all!
I'm trying to install java 6 update 16 on my co-workers computer. I installed it when he was logged onto his profile, it installed ok. In Program files Java folder there's only the jdk 6 and jre 6, nothing else. However, when I do "java -version" in command prompt, it says only java 4 is installed. I logged him off and logged on as myself and when I do "java -version", it says java 6 is installed. So it's only when he is logged on to the computer does it think java 6 is not installed. What could be causing this? It's making so that jboss 6 won't even start.

1. Check your compadre's PATH.
2. Rename (or even delete) java.exe from windows\system32
3. Hire someone who knows what they're doing.

A couple of other things you might like to try :-
- Determine whether you are able to access the internet from anywhere else on your new PC (e.g. do Windows updates download ? Can you access the Windows 8 store ? ) If the answer is no, then your problem doesn't lie with IE but with the actual wireless connection. If the answer is yes, then continue as below.
- Run IE from the desktop instead of the Start screen - probably won't make any difference, but worth a try.
- Download a decent browser like Firefox or Chrome and try that - this will show whether the problem lies just with IE or not
- As a general rule, don't do anything that PC World tell you to do, lol !
As gg30340 says, this does sound very much like it MAY be a problem with firewall settings - if you're running Norton Antivirus then I believe that will be providing the firewall service, rather than the inbuilt Windows firewall.
One thing you don't need to worry about - Windows 8 is a perfectly good OS and works just as well as Windows 7 did. I'm using it now !

Windows 7 won't recognize my iPhone now that I've updated to iOS 7.1

What's up here? I use a Windows 7 machine and used to just plug my iPhone in and get all the photos and video off of it via "my computer". Now my desktop won't recognize my iPhone and the phone keeps asking me to trust the computer which I've said "yes" about six times now. I don't use iTunes and don't want to as it doesn't work well with Windows. None of this happened until I updated to iOS 7.1 and hey apple, give us an option to roll back please!!

That's what's throwing me. I don't use iTunes and don't even have it installed. I just plug the phone in via a USB cable, or did anyway before iOS 7.1 and it worked fine. I manually pulled my photos and videos off to my hard drive. Now I'm trying to download iTunes and it just keeps saying "thanks for downloading iTunes" yet it hasn't even begun to download. All my own fault. I didn't listen to myself "if it ain't broke don't fix it" i.e. don't always rush to update to the lastest iOS. Heck I still use Windows XP on my desktop and have for 13 years. It works fine and I see no need to change it.

Windows Vista Won't Recognize Internet Networks

I just installed Windows Vista Home Basic on my MacBook Pro with Boot Camp. I have Road Runner wireless internet and my Mac side recognizes and connects all the time, but my Windows side doesn't recognize it or any other network. What's the problem and how can I fix it?

Uninstalled and reinstalled the new update. I even ran the setup as admin, but no dice. And there's no Java settings in the control panel either.

X205-sli1 64bit windows 7 won't recognize sony camera anymore and SLI mode flicker

I suspect this is more a windows 7 driver issue than a laptop issue, but does anyone have any ideas?

so, started with X205-sli1 default a month ago, since then it has gotten... 4gb ram, dual 500gb drives, and a T9500 CPU (was running at 85c when idle before so as long as I was redoing the heatsink compond I upgraded the CPU, now runs at 40c when idle and faster).... anybody need a T7250 that works? pm me.
afterwards formated and put windows 7 64bit on it... since then loaded all the drivers from toshiba website and everthing seems to work fine except it won't recognize the sony DSCW90 camera as a mass storage device like it did before. The camera still works fine on another system running ubuntu, so I know the camera/cable are good.
second problem, even with the latest nvidia driver I get a nasty flicker when I enable the SLI mode, seems to be driver related....

I long ago learned when I do an OS install I do a clean one with a complete wipe of the drive... read the instructions and seems about right...
I seem to recall something from way back with a similar problem when I first got the camera... I just don't remember the solution...
Clean installs were the way to go in my thinking as well. However, because of some glitches like this, I would mention a couple of things.
Probably the best way to go, would have been to first have done a full system Toshiba Recovery of your Vista 32 OS, drivers, etc, to your system's factory default out-of-the-box setup. Nice and clean no messy software/hardware updates/installs to mess it up. Then, after that to have done an in place upgrade to Windows 7 32bit. I think you would have had the least amount of trouble from everything I've learned on this forum, and from my own personal experience.
Next, while I fully understand the hyped benefits of the Windows 7 64bit version, the reality can be somewhat different. First, though it has a 64bit capability, your system was originally designed as a 32bit system, supplied with the appropriate 32 bit OS, and as such, it can only take a maximum of 4GB or RAM. Despite your percieved benefit of seeing/using the full 4GB of RAM, this is probably, at the very least, un-done by the fact that your old 32bit software actually runs faster on Windows 7 32bit. If your system could handle more than 4GB of RAM, and especially if you were willing to invest in new 64bit software, it would have been worthwhile to install Windows 7 64bit. Otherwise, I sincerely doubt that it was.
The main chipset and its drivers are what handles the USB ports. If you did (re)install those, from the links I gave you before, there's not much else you can do there. While it is not the same problem you are experiencing, the only other suggestions I have is to follow the instructions in Method 3 of this article:

Did you ever try the system reset I mentioned before?

Pages update - Macbook won't recognize the update

Pages update - I updated Pages but the computer won't recognize it. Now I have documents I can't access because the computer says I must update. I have turned the computer on and off a few times and it hasn't helped.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open Pages 5.2 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5.2 files can not be opened in Pages 5.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened by newer Pages versions anywhere, is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed over 95 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Windows XP won't install drivers - "UPDATE" file missing

I have installed Windows XP SP2 successfully ( it was a bumpy road ) and have reached the step where I'm supposed to use a Leopard disc to install the necessary drivers for using Windows with the MacBook hardware (video, speakers, etc). When I insert the Leopard disc a window appears saying that the setup.exe file on the disc is newer than something or other, so I click OKAY ( the Boot Camp instructions say to agree to any windows at this point ). The window goes away, and another one immediately opens saying " the necessary UPDATE file is missing". I click OKAY and the window closes. The End. No driver installation. I can use XP, but there is no sound. Windows Movie Maker won't even launch because it says the audio components are not available. This is probably because the drivers weren't installed. I imagine there will be many other problems.... Anyone have this solution???

Here is a correction to my post. The window says: "This package requires a newer version of Windows Installer. Do you want to update the version of the Windows Installer on your system?" ( I click yes and the window goes away). The second window says: "The required resource 'Update' is missing". ( I click yes and the window goes away ).
I think maybe XP is trying to download something from the internet and maybe it can't since I probably need the drivers to do that....?

Cannot launch SQL Developer - won't recognize Java JDK

Upon attempting to launch SQL Developer for the first time, I get a dialog box asking for the "full path to Java executable". I use the Browse function to point to my local Java 7 JDK java.exe, and nothing happens. No error message, no prompt or hint (typical of Oracle applications, I'm discovering) - the dialog box clears itself and wil not accept any java.exe I point it to.

Possible Fix For When Windows XP Won't Recognize Your iPod

The fix detailed in this article worked for me when I couldn't get iTunes 7 to recognize my iPod in Windows XP. Sometimes when I force quit the iPodService.exe service, it worked the first time, but when I reconnected the iPod, it didn't appear in iTunes.

My issue was even more difficult;
I got a new 20 gb ipod photo, hooked it up to my computer, and ran updates. Afterward, it told me to unplug and reconnect my ipod. I did so, but it still just gave me the reeconnect logo on my ipod and did nothing else.
I tried changing the cable, nothing happened. I switched to my work laptop (windows XP pro, also), nothing happened. I tried my roommate's macbook, still nothing. I tried rebooting the ipod. It would still only show the reconnect icon.
No computer would recognize it and the ipod was also unrepsonsive, so I had no way to reset my ipod or anything.
I had realized that it never showed that it was actually hooked up to a power supply when it was plugged into anything, and I think this is because it was plugging into USB ports and not being recognized by me computer.
So, I took it out to my car, and plugged it into my cigarette lighter adapter.
Bingo, that did the trick, now it works with everything again.

My computer (windows xp) won't recognize my iPod (5G 80GB)

my ipod isn't recognized by the computer. i connect it, nothing happens. so i can't really restore it or anything since it's not recognized by the computer itself. i tried everything i possibly can. yesterday, though, when i connected the ipod, i reseted it (while connected), it says it charges but i don't think it does because when i unplug it, even after an hour it still is a red bar. i'm thinking maybe it's the cable, but since it "charged" yesterday, maybe it's not. my ipod's just a couple months old, three months i think. it won't connect to itunes too. so basically, it does nothing when i plug it to the computer. i tried every usb port. no luck. i don't have an adapter so the only way i could charge it is to plug it in the computer, which just last last night, doesn't work too.

I had to replace my hard drive. Managed to reinstall Itunes + my library. iTunes sees my ipod but it won't update. Have done same as you & gone through everything available on support. Would appreciate any assistance anyone could provide, as I can't update my new purchased tunes. Many Thanks!!!
iPod Mini Windows XP

Windows XP won't recognize my Zen Touch. Please he

I jusy got a ZT and I did a full installation from the included disk. But I cannot get either Nomad Explorer or Creative Media Source to recognize my player. In Nomad, it has a Not Connected icon in the working area, and in CMS, the player is not present as a choice in the menu on the right side of the screen (where the PC music library drop-down is).
I've tried to re-install AND update the drivers in Windows. But Windows cannot seem to find the drivers even though the CD is in my CD player. I've also tried to install the drivers from Creative's website, but it tells me I need to be logged in as an administrator, and Windows seems to indicate that you really shouldn't do that, so I didn't pursue it.
When I tried to install the firmware update from the Creative website, it also says my player is not connected. So that didn't work either.
I am running Windows XP Home Edition if it matters.
I did not have the player connected when I installed the software. But just to be safe, I uninstalled everything, restarted my machine, and then reinstalled all the software and restarted again. This didn't help.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do? I cannot use the player because I cannot get any music in it (and I don't like the classical that they already loaded).

PS. Notmad doesn't recognize the player as connected either. I cannot manually connect it in Notmad Manager.
I have not disconnected and reconnected my USB hub as I read someplace as a suggested fix (don't know how to do that). And I have not logged on as an admin and tried to reinstall the drivers (don't know how).
Before I bought this thing I read all the horror stories of the software it came with and whatnot, but I never imagined the nightmare it would actually be. I've been installing hardware and software on this computer for three years and not one conflict or crashing program has ever occured. I can't believe you have to be an IT expert just to use this stupid little toy. End rant!

Itunes 11 on Windows 8 won't recognize by i touch

When I connect my itouch or ipad itunes does not recognize. I have a Windows 8 operating system and Itunes 11. I have been through the troubleshooter without success.

My IPad 1st generation is also not recognized by iTunes 11 using windows 8 on my new PC. Apple confirmed there is a compatibility issue between the new released iTunes version to support windows 8 and iPad 1. There is a possibility this fix will be available on the next iTunes release but not guaranteed. Error (0xE8000012). Meanwhile for know you will better off connecting it to a windows7 OS. Windows XP won't recognize built-in wireless AFTER installing the drivers.

I have an iMac, post leopard release.
So I ran Bootcamp, everything went well, and windows XP runs fine. I used an XP Pro edition with SP2 and all of that is in order. I initially used a Leopard Install DVD of my friends to install the drivers, because I couldn't find the disk that came with my mac, and that worked until it got the wireless components, and then would crash windows.
I then found, luckily, and put in the Mac OSX install disk that came with my mac and that installed the drivers.
(or at least I think it did, it sure looked like it was, but afterwards it seemed as though all it did was install a program called Bootcamp that helps with running dual systems on a Mac.)
But XP wont pick up any wireless networks on the page where you can manage your networks. It's as if I have no built in wireless.
I don't know if you have to actually set up the built in wireless to work with windows, or if the disks I put in actually didn't install the drivers. but I'm starting to go insane...
(on one last side note, my wireless mighty mouse and wireless keyboard won't connect in XP either, BUT only after I used the Mac OSX install CD.... it's very strange....

Any luck on the wireless issue? I too have a MacBook Pro that accesses the wireless internet with no problems on the Mac side. That is not the case on the PC side, using the Windows XP Professional. I can not access any internet, wireless or hardwired directly into the router. As a matter of fact, the Internet Wizard runs on the PC side and ends saying error.
I've contacted my internet provider, who walked me through the process to create a new internet account, still no luck. Ideas would be wonderful seeing that I have a single piece of PC only software I am trying to use for some charity work.
