Certificate Enroll Errors RPC Server Is Unavailable

I have a scenario in which I would like some advice before moving on. We have a Server 2012 root CA that was put in about a year-year and a half ago and at the same time there was another 2008 R2 root CA that was installed on a DC that was hosting FSMO roles.
Well that DC started to die so we transferred the FSMO roles and removed certificate services. However, we only uninstalled the role but as I understand, there is a bit of cleanup to do in AD beyond just removing the role. So when we started to perform the
first step, I noticed remnants of old servers that are no longer around. I've discovered that our previous admin had made 3 other servers (I believe all 2003) that have all completely gone away and yet are still listed in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities
on all computers and I find in the event log the following error when I log in to our domain machines of them trying to contact each of the old CA servers:
Certificate enrollment for Local system failed to enroll for a Machine certificate with request ID N/A from server.domain.org\server (The RPC server is unavailable. 0x800706ba (WIN32: 1722)).
Now I have no way of knowing whether or not this admin actually properly removed the role before decommissioning these servers and I have no idea why we needed so many servers to be root CA's in the first place? Anyhow, I was wondering if the proper procedure
would be to remove the root trusted certs from group policy and then clean up the remnant entries in AD as described in the Microsoft documentation of removing a root CA from your environment. I still see some errors and machines requesting to check for stuff
like CRL with the most recent root CA that we removed so I just wanted to check to see if all of these errors will go away once we finish the cleanup and if there is anything special that needs to be done for the potentially orphaned root CA's. We did take
a backup of the 2008R2 CA (the one that was on the dying DC) before we removed the role and I have confirmed that our production CA (the one that we would like to remain in production - is a sub CA of an offline root) has already issued new machine and DC
certs to our domain machinese and domain controllers.
Sorry for the lengthy post. Please let me know if any more information is required and thank you in advance!

Hello,
the root CA normally is the first one in a forest issuing the certificates for the subordinate CAs if required or for certificates.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731183.aspx
SO there is no need for multiple root CAs.
To get rid of everything old and be sure the CA is configured correct for your needs I suggest to ask this in

  • RPC Server is unavailable when trying to renew or request a new certificate with new key

    Hi
I have a couple of wireless access points (AP's) that are unable to use our RADIUS server to authenticate.
This started happening after a power outage, and I did a gracefull shutdown of the RADIUS server.  When the server was booted up the AP's appear to have lost the ability to authenticate users of both PC's and mobile devices.
I looked through the Network Policy server  MMC and didn't find anything there.
Next I looked at the certificates and found 2 in the Personal>Certificates folder, that I think are related to this configuration.  The odd thing is they expired the exact same day as the power outage.
So I tried to Renew and then Recreate the certificate's key. That's when I received the RPC server unavailable.  I also tried creating a new key from scratch, same problem.
I did a lot of searching on the web so I have seen this thread and I have checked all the things recommended, none of the suggestions helped:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/2b93bfa8-c162-4fc8-9cf3-a8f8f8c8ff29/rpc-server-is-unavailable-requesting-a-new-certificate?forum=winservergen
I must admit I am at a loss as to where to look next.
    Help is very much appreciated.

Are you also the admin of the certificate authority?
=====I am the admin, but my knowledge of this topic is low.
If the CA is operational, the next steps are:
    - Any firewalls between your client and this CA? Did somebody change the desktop firewalls settings at the CA?
===== There are no firewalls between the client and CA nor have the desktop firewall rules changed.
    - Can sombody (the PKI admin?) confirm that the CA works fine and other clients can enroll? What's the difference between those clients and yours?
===== I will see about trying this out and report back.
    - Is the CA probably in a different domain and does Kerberos authentication work fine between domains? I had sometimes seen things like: CA is in a root domain but clients cannot talk to Root DCs as per firewall settings - thus clients cannot get Kerberos tickets
from the domain hosting the CA. (Certificate enrollment is sometimes the first application that really requires Kerberos and cannot fall back to NTLM). A network trace would help here.
    =====
The CA is in the same domain.
    - Did somebody tweak with DCOM permissions or lock down flags at the CA (unlikely)
===== The DCOM settings haven't been touched by anyone.
    Thanks

  • DTCPing Error: 1722(The RPC server is unavailable.)

    Hi,
I have Windows 7 professional on my laptop and I have Windows Server 2012 on my Server.
I have configured all the msdtc properties, the firewall is off on both the servers. Network team confirmed that the ports are open in both the directions.
When I use DTCPing to test the connection from my laptop to Server I received this error
    1722(The RPC server is unavailable.)
When I tried DTCPing from Server to my laptop, I got following error:
    Error(0x5) at dtcping.cpp @303
    -->RPC pinging exception
    -->5(Access is denied.)
Any suggestions would be really helpful.

    Hi JD,
The root cause and steps to resolve this issue is very well documented in this blog below.
    Refer:

Most likely the port 135 is blocked and you should check with your network team to get the port 135 opened up on the firewall.

    Manu

    Hi Manu,
As Deepak mentioned, please try to enable IPv6 on all member servers first.
Based on my research, In Microsoft Exchange Server 2013, IPv6 is supported only when IPv4 is also installed and enabled. If Exchange 2013 is deployed in this configuration, and the network supports IPv4 and IPv6, all Exchange servers can send data to and
receive data from devices, servers, and clients that use IPv6 addresses.
Please also configure or disable Firewall to allow the connection.
    Thanks

  • CCertRequest::Submit: The RPC server is unavailable. 0x800706ba (WIN32: 1722)

    hi,
I am adding this issue under the title.I tried almost all the possible solution that I found over the internet but all in vain!!
This is a scenario: I am making a RPC call from one of my windows application to the CA server [DC Name\CA server].
I am on same domain as the server.
From the same server I can successfully get the certificates using certsrv.
    Now here is the issue:
Whenver I try to submit the request from my c# code like this:
    private const int CR_IN_BASE64 = 0x1;
    private const int CR_IN_FORMATANY = 0;
//strrequest  is the x509 cert request
    CertRequest.Submit( CR_IN_BASE64 | CR_IN_FORMATANY,  strRequest, null, [DC
    Name\CA server])
I amgetting error as : Server could not be reached: The RPC server is unavailable. 0x800706ba (WIN32: 1722)
    I have tried below things:
    certutil -ping -config "server.domain.com\domain-server-ca
    Connecting to server.domain.com\domain-server-ca
Server could not be reached: The RPC server is unavailable. 0x800706ba (WIN32: 1722)
    CertUtil: -ping command FAILED: 0x800706ba (WIN32: 1722)
CertUtil: The RPC server is unavailable.
The same command from a command prompt on the same computer run as domain admin:
Server "domain-server-CA" ICertRequest2 interface is alive
    CertUtil: -ping command completed successfully.
nltest /sc_verify:domain run on this DC gives the following error:
    I_NetLogonControl failed: Status =  50x54b ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED.
Help in resolving this is greatly appreciated.
I have tried below mentioned URLS and all the settings/configurations for each of the directroy in CA server  are correct.
    Thanks in advance !!
    HP

    Hermant,
Are you saying that if you do an nltest /sc_verify:domain.com on the Domain Controller it gives you an ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED?
If so you should ensure that the DNS settings are following best practices, as an incorrect configuration may cause secure channel to break.  See the table here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18513.active-directory-replication-issues-basic-troubleshooting-steps-single-ad-domain-in-a-single-ad-forest.aspx
To fix the issue, you'll need to reset the secure channel:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/asiasupp/archive/2007/01/18/typical-symptoms-when-secure-channel-is-broken.aspx
    Hope this helps.

  • Cluster Aware Updating - Failed to restart - The RPC Server is unavailable

I have a 3 node Windows Server 2012 R2 Failover Cluster, and I'm having trouble getting Cluster Aware Updating to work properly. I have been able to successfully apply updates that do not require a reboot, however, anytime I have updates that
do require a reboot, the process fails. The error message says:
Failed to restart <ServerName>:(ClusterUpdateException) Failed to restart <ServerName>:(Win32Exception) The RPC server is unavailable ==> (Win32Exception) The RPC server is unavailable
I have verified that the firewall rule to allow automatic restarts is configured according to Technet: Requirements and Best Practices for Cluster-Aware Updating
I have also made sure that the CAU AD account has local admin rights, as well as "Force shutdown from a remote system" rights on each of the cluster nodes. In this case, I have been applying updates manually from my workstation (which is not a
member of the cluster) while logged in with Domain Admin rights (as opposed to letting the cluster update itself based on a schedule). I'd like to verify that the entire process works properly before letting it update itself. What am I missing?

Hi Duct tape and super glue,
Could you offer us more information about your environment status now, such as
CUA Role name is online or not, firewall settings and the event ID, “The RPC server is unavailable” is the typical caused by the WMI or DCOM communication was not running or block, please verified that the firewall was set correctly, WinRM
    is enabled.

  • DFS - Cannot Create Namespace - RPC Server Is Unavailable windows 2008R2

Hi guys, I am back again with another question
I am trying to create a domain based namespace, enabled Windows 2008 mode and get the following
error...\\Miracle-Adventure.com\dfs. The namespace cannot be queried. The RPC server is unavailable.
    I have 3 DC's - 2 Virtual DC (windows 2008R2) / 01 DC on a Physical Box Windows 2008R2.  I am trying
to create the DFS Namespace in my Physical Box DC01.
    Any Idea?

    Hi,
You could update the HOST (A) records on the DNS server for the domain name, pointing to IP Addresses of some or all of the DCs to resolve the issue:

  • RPC Server is unavailable / account is not valid during setup

    Hey all,
Working with a brand new environment. During install (both SQL 2012 and 2014) on any one of four servers, they all fail on the service accounts page with a "RPC server is unavailable" error and "The SQL Server service account login or password
    is not valid."
I've verified that RPC server is unavailable is related to only the agent, and the account invalid is only for the engine. Verified this by trying each one separately and putting the other back to default. For the latter (account login or password is not valid),
that's definitely not accurate being that I can use that account & password successfully elsewhere.
The best article I've found so far is here - http://sqlwithmanoj.com/tag/the-rpc-server-is-unavailable/.
I've verified all 5 are in place and changed the group policy. Still errors out every time. Even if I can fix the RPC issue, not sure what's wrong with the engine account? I think both issues still stem back to the RPC, even though the engine doesn't report
it in the setup. In the detail log, I'm assuming "Slp: Sco.User.OpenRoot - root DirectoryEntry object already opened for this computer for this object" is the core of my problem.
Here's a full output of a failed run:

    Hi Adam,
The credentials you provided for the SQL Server Agent service are invalid. To continue, provide a valid account and password for the SQL Server Agent service.
Could you please use the default services account configuration during the SQL Server setup and update services account after installation is completed?
In addition, based on my research, the above error could occurr when the machine you install SQL Server is joined to domain A, however, the user account you used to install SQL Server is created in domain B.
If that is the case in your scenario, you can create another account in domain A, then install SQL Server. Also please make sure that the account you used to install SQL Server has admin permissions. For more details, please review this similar
    blog.
    Thanks,

  • The RPC Server is Unavailable

I have a project in which I use some of the examples from the SDK.  Here's a quick explanation of my layout:
I have a custom class library with a class PDFPersist that contains a public member CAcroPDDoc.  I use this custom class to hold a base PDF document to which I insert a lot of other PDF documents.  I have the insert working perfectly (basically cut and paste from SDK).  The only change from the SDK is that I don't save the base document after the insert - I insert all the documents and save at the end.  Because of the number of documents and the resulting size of the base document (probably around 50 megs when complete) my code would take forever to complete if I saved after each insert.
This all seems to be working perfectly, except when I get up to around 90% complete on inserting.  At that point, I get an error (seems to always be on a line using GetNumPages) that says "The RPC Server is Unavailable."  I've tried everything I can think of and can't find a solution.
My gut is that it's some sort of ceiling (intended or otherwise) on Acrobat's resource consumption.  I known it's not related to a specific document because I've modified the order and it still happens after about 90% complete.  I have noticed that it happens when the Acrobat's process in Task Manager gets up just under 300 Megs.  Yes, I know that sounds huge (but way less than my computer can handle), and it is, which brings me to my next question:
If the error is a result of consuming too much memory, what am I doing wrong with the Acrobat types?  I'm closing every single one I open, and always setting the variables to nothing.  There's no way it should be the one document I have open - when I open even the completed version of that document it's consuming abut a 3rd of that memory.
Is there a special trick to destroying types created in Adobe?  I only use two - CAcroPDDoc and its respective jsobject.  That's it.

    Alright then.

  • The RPC server is unavailable while trying to take Remote Desktop of 2003 Server.

    Dear All
Recently I am facing remote desktop login problem in on Windows 2003 Server.
While I am enter user name and password server give me logon error.
"The system cannot log you on due to the following error:
    The RPC server is unavailable.
Please try again or consult your system administrator.
    Kindly help me.........

I just started spontaneously having this problem yesterday. I am not aware of anything having changed that would prompt it, though I did do a Windows Update on all servers AFTER the problem manifested to see if that might fix it. (No such luck) For reasons
unexplained, the system HAS let me in a few times, though it hasn't been consistent, and now it seems to have locked me out entirely (except through the VSphere back door, explained below). I am running Windows 7 on my laptop, and I have received a report
of the same problem from another employee trying to log in from their computer, which I believe is also running Win7.
I am running two VMWare instances of Server 2003 R2, one Domain Controller and another production environment. I can RDP just fine to the DC, but not the production. Also, using the VSphere VMware management client on a separate machine, I CAN log in to
the production environment without a problem.
I have tried the fixes around restarting stopped services, but nothing has helped yet. I've also tried disabling my anti-virus temporarily, with no effect. I tried pinging the various IP addresses, and received timeouts on the 2 images, as well as their
host server. Again, though, I CAN log into the DC without issue.
Could someone please elaborate on how to create this registry key? On which image would I add this key? (I am a novice user, so using regedit is somewhat unfamiliar to me)
Any other thoughts about potential solutions?
    Thanks!
Update Dec 15 2011: Just tried restarting the Production image, via VSphere, and then successfully logged in and out 3 times in quick succession by regular RDP. The symptoms have been temporarily soothed, though I wonder if the underlying problem remains?
Still no answer to why this happened in the first place, so I'd appreciate input.
Update Dec 16 2011: The problem came back this morning, and remained all day. I can still access by VSphere, but have other users who need to access by regular RDP. I'd rather not have to reboot the system constantly just to allow access... Any help is much
    appreciated!

  • Where to get solution for "The RPC server is unavailable"

On my Windows XP Pro PC I installed a new CMOS button battery.  The result is my PC is almost useless.  Although it boots up and shows the Desktop as before, most MS things will not work (now I can not Copy, Cut, Paste, Move, see Properties, Open
or Run most MS things and much more).  Many non-MS programs DO work.  When I checked the specifications it says "The RPC server is unavailable"...  So it seems clear that in the 5 seconds it took to insert the new battery that this
vital RPC was stopped, and that has wrecked most everything.
[Note: The Time & Date of course needed resetting after the battery change, but that is the one thing I've been able to repair, so I do not need help with that.]
I have been going through the ANSWERS.MICROSOFT.COM forums for help, and I see there are MANY "RPC-Unavailable" questions and MANY "solutions".  I have tried many, many of these solutions but none work... that is, I think they might
work IF the RPC was already running, but they do not work on my PC where the RPC is not running.  [For instance, one solution is to go to Services, right-click the RPC, open Properties and click Automatic... but I can not open any Properties.  However,
I was able to click "Start"... but it would not start.]
Believe me, I have tried MANY other things, including trying to Repair my Net Framework 3.5... that Failed.  Then downloaded (Firefox still works, though IE does not) the Net Framework 3.5 and tried to reinstall... that Failed, too.  I tried "System
Restore" but that would not work.  I even inserted my WinXP install disk, set for Boot from CD, and while it said it was booting from CD it simply ignored the disk and booted normally (to the "RPC unavailable" OS).  And I have tried
many of these "solutions" in all 3 Safe Modes to no avail.
Can you please suggest which Forum can truly help with this problem?  Thanks very much!

Dave Patrick, Thank you very much for your response.  But...
As I said, I have already been combing through that forum with no success.  I posted my question there on March 11 and received only one answer which unfortunately was not at all helpful.  That's why I hoped you could direct me to some better source
    for help.
Also, I don't understand your last comment: "Since this was triggered from hardware issues you might try the desktop manufacturer forums as well."  I thought it was strictly from the MS OS software.  Do you mean the RPC stuff is in the
ROM, BIOS or motherboard and so I should hunt a non-MS forum, maybe Dell, or the battery manufacturer?
Please forgive my probably dumb questions; most of this is over my head so I really crave some help.
Note:  If you look at the answers.microsoft.com forums you see that this RPC problem goes back many years, and I've seen none attributing it to a new button battery... many different causes, apparently.  And, as I said, none of the many "solutions"
I've tried have worked.  It just seems to me that after all these years of this problem that surely SOME real solution exists by now.  Where, oh where can I find it?

  • Get-WmiObject to remote computer fails with "rpc server is unavailable" and vice versa "Access denied"

    Hi
    Still learning PowerShell remoting.
Can access with remoting 2 computers (XPProf/SP3, Workgroup) perfect. Powershell2.0 (running as Administrator).
Using Firewall ZoneAlarm not Windows Firewall (stopped).
But when using Get-WMIObject always run into
"rpc server is unavailable" in one direction and "Access denied" in the other direction.
Searched the forum but didnt find infos.
Switched off Firewalls: Still the same.
    So I'm stuck.
    Any help is appreciated.

Yo encontré estas recomendaciones que me sirvieron para poder consultar el servidor remoto.
    http://www.poweradmin.com/help/enablewmi.aspx
     Allow WMI through Windows firewall
All users (including non-administrators) are able to query/read WMI data on the local computer.
For reading WMI data on a remote server, a connection needs to be made from your management computer (where our monitoring software is installed) to the server that you're monitoring (the target server). If the target server is running Windows Firewall (aka
Internet Connection Firewall) like what is shipped with Windows XP and Windows 2003, then you need to tell it to let remote WMI requests through2. This can only be done at the
command prompt. Run the following on the target computer if it is running a Windows firewall:
netsh firewall set service RemoteAdmin enable
Como segunda opcion tambien se puede modificar el group policy y especificar que ips tendran acceso a consultar el WMI remotamente.
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc738900(v=ws.10).aspx
    Using Group Policy
To enable or disable the Remote administration exception
Open the Group Policy Object Editor snap-in to edit the Group Policy object (GPO) that is used to manage Windows Firewall settings in your organization.
Open Computer Configuration, open Administrative Templates, open Network, open Network Connections, open Windows
Firewall, and then open either Domain Profile or Standard Profile, depending on which profile you want to configure.
In the details pane, double-click Windows Firewall: Allow remote administration exception.
In the Windows Firewall: Allow remote administration exception properties dialog box, on the Settings tab, click Enabled or Disabled.
    Saludos
