Certificates in Captivate 4

Hello All,
I have managed to use the certificate widget to insert a basic certificate into adobe captivate 4 - I have got the user name on the certificate via a text box - and using the v-Name varaible. However the certificate is very basic. Is there any way I could import a certificate created in powerpoint - and then put the vname varaible on it.

I agree with you, the Certificate in v4 is very, very basic.
I have another question that I will be posting on this forum and that is: Can you Edit the font and number of characters for the Course name ? My course title does not appear in full on the certificate and cannt see how to change the settings.
Any ideas ?

Printing a certificate in Captivate CS5

Hello,
I am currently using Captivate CS5 and I want to have some sort of button/click box etc or even link which allows the student to print a certificate or have one emailed to them when they reach a certain section in my module. I also want this certificate to ideally have their name and date of completion present on too.
I can create a 'certificate-style' slide already which uses Text Entry boxes and variables but as I'm not brilliant with captivate yet and am still very new to widgets, I wanted to see what is the most basic/straightforward/least complex students could be sent/print out their certificates.
Any help would be very appreciated!

Hopefully Lilybiri won't mind my offering a reply here as I'm guessing she is tucked into bed for the evening. I believe she lives in Belgium and according to my clock it's midnight there.
To insert a widget, click Window > Widget and Captivate should list the widgets for you to choose.
You may find you need to also click the little Folder Icon and browse to the Gallery/Widgets folder in order to see the available widgets.

Making Certificate widget Captivate 7 work

It is probably a very simple question, but I am lost. How will I make Certificate widget work in Captivate 7 ?
I have inserted the widget into last screen of my file, after quiz and quiz results. How will I make it "pick up" quiz score and grade? Can I delete grade?

HI,
The Certificate format is editable and so you can delete or add text in it. In the Widget Properties, double click on the Certificate and it becomes editable.
The score obtained in the Quiz is automatically picked up by the widget and gets populated in corresponding section of certificate. 'Score' in Edit Variables should be ON. (Refer screenshot below)
The username is taken from LMS. If you want to give your own username, a user-defined variable solves this problem.
Click on the Edit Variables in Widget Properties
Mark Name as OFF
Mark Other as ON and give any user-defined variable name
Create the user-defined variable with the same name in Captivate and give the name that should appear in certificate in Value field
Let me know if you find any other difficulty in using the widget.

Printing high quality certificates in captivate

Hello!
I am trying to print a certificate that I created in PhotoShop and inserted into CP7.
It looks amazing on screen, but prints out horribly. I have tried fooling around with different file types, jpg, gif, etc. And I tried increasing the DPI to 600, but nothing seems to be working.
Is there a way to print high quality, non-pixilated slides from Captivate? If not, does anyone have a work around for printing certificates that look nice?
I also wanted the user to simply click the print widget one time and have the document already formatted to landscape & the highest quality - but I'm stumped on if that can be done..and how to do that?

ya: be4 imposing a booklet first export a Pd f(high quality) place it back in indesign if you are using indesign from Cs3 to 4 you can use the script to place it for you and then imposeor make inbooklet 2up
Step II printing i didnt talk about crop make cause in inbooklet or imposer whatever their added on automatically unless you uncheck it, Now the document you have is a custom size if you dont scale to fix cut marks will be out so scale to fit any size your printing in your print box go to advance there transparency flattener selet high quality print and get back to me

Custom's certificate in Captivate with learner's name and date

Hi,
is it possible to create a learner’s course certificate for printing (PDF) without using a LMS? I thought of a javascript running at end of the course. At the beginning of the course the learner would have to be asked to enter his name and date.
Shall it be feasible to generate such a certificate in CP (without using a LMS)? May you help me to get it done?

Certificates and Captivate 8

Why won't all the fields in the certificate widget populate?
If I create my own certificate how do I get the date in the format I want? ( MMDDYYYY)
Also is there a way to get the certificate to print and/or automatically email to someone keeping records of completions?

Well Susan,
In that case you can try creating the custom certificate and as suggested above you can use Window.print() javascript to add a print button on your certificate slide.
There is a system variable cpInfoCurrentDateString which will return the date in MM/DD/YY format.

Captivate 7 Certificate

I have a certicate designed in PDF that I woiud like to use rather than the one in interactions. Is it possible to use this file and if so how do I upload it to the course?
Failing that how do I redisign the certificate in Captivate 7?

I don't think you will find anything free that will allow you to save an image or a PDF from Captivate. The only other alternative is probably to instruct the student to do a "Print Screen" and then paste this into a Word document or an email but that will most likely end up in chaos, so you are better off getting the widget

Certificate and Image Issue

I have previously been a user of captivate 4 and have just downloaded the trial of captivate 6 at my new place of work with a view to investing in it for our e-learning going forward.
I have written a small trial module and have a couple of issues - have googled etc but cannot find the answer so here goes....
Certificate - in captivate 4 i was able to insert the certifcate widget and it would pull the name of the learner through from a variable V_Name. I have tried this in v6 and it does not bring the name onto the certificate - ive used V_Name and just tried User_Name as variables but still no name appears on the certifate.
I have also tried to get it too display the name of my module in the 'has taken the course' section of the certifcate - in captivate 4 i manually entered that onto the widget in the cert slide which worked fine - in v6 that is not an option... i have added a variable with the name of the module but that has not worked. - any ideas would be welcome...

Images as Red Boxes
I have a problem with some of my images showing as red boxes on the published scorm package when it is played back through moodle. We've run it on 2 pcs on the network with the same issue - flash player is v10 and im publishing it in flash player 10. These images work absolutely fine on my mac in preview mode. Very strange. Also, I have some of the images which are red boxes in the main slideshow but appear absolutely fine on a question slide?? Again any ideas would be much appreciated.

I tried the variable v_Name (lowercase v) and that has worked for the certifcate - still not too sure how to get the course name populated?
The images are mainly jpegs and png's and bitmaps. I just checked the slide quality and it was on low 8 bit - so have changed that. Cant see an option for transparency...I'll try it with the slide quality changed and see what happens.
Whilst you're about - can you help with a question about text entry boxes please? I've set up a TEB at the beginning for the learner to type in their learning objectives - the key things that they want to get from the module. I made 3 TEBs so that they could write a max of 3 objectives. I've associated the TEB with the following $$TTextEntryItem1Var$$ but it only displays around 13 characters of text?

Certificate Interaction Functionality

I have some questions regarding the interaction certificate for Captivate 7. We do not have an LMS, our scores are sent Pass/Fail through Tibco, and pushed through PeopleSoft for a P/F query.
When I add the certificate to the performance test how do I get the data to populate the certificate?
How do I add a Signature?
I see there is a Variable option to add; What types of variable would be added, and how would you place the varibles on the interaction.
I am thinking it is more my lack of understanding how to use this feature, any help you can give me would be great. Right now when I try to use it, the fields are all blank,

I am having the same problems like Fray, one year later. I also need a certificate after each module. Simple but enough to keep track of the progress:
The built in certificates are still not editable in Presenter 10 so I cannot add the name of the school, module, course. The Flash Player option is beyond my skill too. It adds the name of the student and the date only.
What is your advise? I asked this question in the forum too, nobody replied. Does it work now with Flash Player? I have Windows 8.1 and I do not even find the Macromedia folder.

CpQuizInfoPointsscored, cpInfoPercentage and cpQuizInfoTotalCorrectAnswers showing incorrect values

I am using captivate 4 - AS2 for publishing. I have built a captivate quiz which is a very straight forward without any question pooling or randomization. All the quesions are standard MCSS/MCMS type and there is no custom activity. After the quiz there is standard scoring slide and after that I have added the certificate widget (captivates inbuilt widget).
The problem is the score being displayed on score page is correct however in certificate page it is something different. For this I tried tracking following variables on the score page:
$$cpQuizInfoPointsscored$$
$$cpQuizInfoTotalCorrectAnswers$$
$$cpInfoPercentage$$
The score being displayed is correct and system variable values are incorrect. Attached are a few screenshots for reference ($$cpQuizInfoPointsscored$$ and $$cpQuizInfoTotalCorrectAnswers$$ values are 50, 5 and 140, 14 which should have been 60, 6 and 190, 19 respectively).
Any pointers to what is wrong?

Adobe Captivate 7: How to Customize Certificate Widget

I can only add (1) additional variable option in a certificate widget text fields. How can I add more variables on the certificate? I need these variables to print out on the certificate when the learner selects the print button. Is it possible to add a company logo onto the certificate that will print also.

Not all video files are created equal. Captivate has in the past shown a preference for certain encoding in FLVs and F4V video files. It's recommended that any video you want to use with Captivate be encoded via the Adobe Media Encoder app that comes with Captivate.
Even the fact that your FLV was encoded with some other Adobe app, does not guarantee it will work with Captivate. (Don't get me started on that.) So try re-encoding your FLV with AME and then see if that improves your chances of embedding the link.

Strange workaround, but just checked it and it works (even for responsive project): you can drag the Signature, I dragged it as far out as possible (to the bottom) and when previewing the Certificate it was gone.
Do you need a widget? It is not that easy if you need it both for SWF and HTML output because I'm aware at this moment of only very few widgets available on the market. You can create a slide with all you need, using the quizzing system variables and a button with a JS to print?

Certificate of completion Captivate 8

Hei everyone.
Anyone here who knows how to change color theme on certificate of completion widget in captivate 8, or if it's even possible? I am able to change colour of text but can't see where to change colour of background, style etc.

Thanks for the help. I have followed the steps on your blog but the weird thing is that when i click on customize i don't get a dialog box. nothing under default colors and nothing under theme colors. The only choice i get is to change text color.
What could be the reason?
Here are the steps i have followed on your blog:
The interaction themes are at the left, with default theme selected; use the Custom button at the bottom
Default Colors are activated, and you could customize them using the Customize button, but then you'll see the old cold dialog box, which has no link to your theme colors
Click on Theme colors: the preview will be changed immediately, and the Customize button now appears under Theme Colors
When using this customize button, you'll see the Theme colors with their tints when changing a color.

Certificate widget and SCORM reporting in Captivate 5

I have been trying to make the Moodle (1.9) Gradebook accurately report SCORM 1.2 results with no success. In desperation I have redesigned the project using a certificate widget, but I can't get that to work either! Please can someone direct me to a working fix? I have tried the fix mentioned by Xeon64 here http://forums.adobe.com/message/3867196#3867196 but when I try to use the widget I get an 'invalid widget' error message. I'd prefer not to have to rebuild the entire project a third time in Captivate 4, which seemed to work ok for me.
A working solution will earn you eternal gratitude from a desperate ID!

To be quite honest, I've never taken to using the Certificate widget. I've seen so many complaints about it on the forums that I've deliberately avoided it.
On the last project I worked on, the client wanted a certificate that was populated with the user's name, employee id, site location, and course completion status. But they specifically wanted to prevent one user from just altering the data and printing out certificates for other users. So they also didn't want the user And the client also wanted an email to be automatically sent with all the same data to their training department so that personnel records could be updated at the same time. But they wanted to have this email sent automatically without user intervention to prevent similar falsification of course completion.
The current certificate widget wasn't able to give me all these fields and email functionaltiy. So I ended up cobbling together my own solution using a widget from Jim Leichliter that allowed me to output User Variables as query strings on a URL so that I could pass data from the course to a PHP page on my website that first sent an email to training and then redirected to another HTM page with the Certificate and it's fields containing the user's completion data.
Jim also has another widget that creates a PDF export page that can also serve as a course completion certificate. If I were you, I'd be looking into that widget to see if it would do what you want.

Captivate Certificate Widget - Printing Problems.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? It's not a problem in Captivate, per say, but it's Captivate related.

I have a customized Captivate Certificate Widget (AS3) from Captivate 4 that works perfectly. When one clicks the "Print Button", the print dialog box comes up and when one checks the print preview option, one sees the certificate ready to be sent to the printer.
Fantastic. Now I want to save this Flash file as a new file and I want to change a textbox on the certificate that is no connected to the ActionScript at all. When I publish this new file, the Print button no longer works. Can anyone explain this?
I have, in fact taken a look at the new Captivate 5 Certificate Widget. I published it out and it's print button doesn't work either! I took both my swfs into XP and opened them and they both worked fine in Firefox and IE.
After further examining both Flash files for the CP4 Certificate Widget and the CP5 Certificate Widget, I keep noticing that an error is traced to the output window when publishing the files. The error appears after pressing the Print button and then canceling the print. The error that I'm getting is:
TypeError: Error #2007: Parameter child must be non-null.
at flash.display::DisplayObjectContainer/removeChild()
at CertificateWidget_fla::MainTimeline/ClickPrint()
I've managed to point the problem to line 207: this.removeChild(sheets);
Is this causing the problem?
If anyone could help, that would be great. I don't want to tell my client that the certificate that was working, now doesn't work for no apparent reason.

I use Cap 4 for testing. You put a name field in the first slide, then the certificate widget will fill in the name, date, and score. You get a print or e-mail field at the bottom of the certificate.
I used Internet sources to find out how to do some things, but the Adobe free online webinars taught me most of it.
