Certification Vs Experience

Hi Everyone,
Like many others I am also new to SAP CRM and I am doing a course in E-Commerce.. Would like to you experts in CRM , whether to go for certification exam first or to gain some experience and then go for exam...
One of my friend says certificate will be a gateway and the other says after you work for sometime then certification becomes easier..what would you suggest..
Rgds,
sangeetha

I am into SAP world from 2.5 years .I was aware of SAP-ABAP ,SAP-EP and presently I am working on ABAP.
Now,I am looking for the certification from SAP. I want you to give me the information in this regard.
Which was the basic primary certification that I can opt for? (as an associate/professional).Could you please send me the exact name?

First I want to write the certification for ABAP.Please guide me in this regard.

How can I take up ABAP Certification exam?
You will have to get in touch with sap education or any institute that is sap education partner, currently siemens and genaovate are the ones which conduct exams.
What all I need to know in ABAP?
Training institute will provide you with relevant study material for the exam, Just stick to it and practice your concept with any of the online test websites, like www.sapdomian.com.
Here are links for the e-books that is provided for ABAP certification.

How can I prepare for the exams?
Concept is tested. If you understand the concept, you have a better chance of answering the question than trying to remember the actual bullet points in the academy course material.
Use the online help to find and review the concepts covered in the certification course material. The information in the online help is presented in a different format to the course material and will therefore solidify the concepts presented. You will be much better prepared to answer the questions regardless of how the question may be worded. This really works.
How many levels will the exam will be conducted?
The certification exam is conducted in three levels, associate, principal and master. If you are a first timer then go with associate level, and there aftre gaining experience you can enhance your career with other levels of exam.
Hope this is helpful, Do reward.

  • Would you recommend 11g certifications or 12c certifications for the future?

    good afternoon community,
recently i decided to complete a certification path in  oracle 11g. however, seeing how 12c is spreading and selling, do you think it will manage to take over 11g anytime soon? now i know that major companies and others ranging from medium to large still do not feel secure using the cloud or prefer 11g as a personal choice. but can all of this change within the next 2-3 years ? and would it be hard to adapt to 12c as an expert if i got all my certification and experience on 11g ?
would appreciate any expert info regarding this!
    With best regards,
    Nader H.

I do not believe that anyone has accurate numbers on 12c installs when compared to all other Oracle release.  If I were to speculate, I'd imagine they are currently high single-digits (6-9%). In three years, 12c installs may overtake 11g installs.
Oracle 12c is based on Oracle 11g... which was based on 10g which was based on...
90% or more of the RDBMS functionality that 12c provides existed in 11g. Learn 11g well and using 12c is simply a matter of learning the new features of 12c. I wrote a blog post about 11g vs 12c certification some time back.  It was before 12c was released to production, but many of the points are still valid.

  • Solution manager implementation tool certification(SMI310)

    hi all,
How's the question pattern for Solution manager implementation tool certification(SMI310)
           - partial marking(old pettern) or SAP will mention the option of correct answers(new pattern)?
    regards
    jaichan

    Hi,
From my basis certification exam experience,  i learned that anyone shouldnt be thinking about examination assessment. But rather one should be concentrating on the objectives of each lesson. If you dont do handson part of each chapter exercise,  then you are in danger!
You can test yourself, by checking whether you can explain each lesson objectives/goals in detailed or not.
One more trick to get prepared well yourself well is to bringout opposite version of the sample questions after each chapter.
This will help you building up confidence on the subject matter.
I wish you will definitely qualify the certification.
    Cheers,
    Srikar

  • Want to move to SAP after 6+ years of experience in a completely different field?

Hi and Good Day to all lovely people on SCN.
I have been following this site for quite a few months now, reason: I am hooked to the wonderful world of SAP.
I still haven't personally experienced it, and currently in dire need of suggestions from your expertise.
After completing my MBA in Finance & Marketing, I started working for a Multi-National Bank in its Back Office Operations.
Been 6+ years and now am planning to also explore and enhance my knowledge in IT field which would be relevant to my
current experience and help amplify the chances of improving my career.
Am confused, and unable to determine which modules should I start with to get the basics of SAP.
Hence request you all show me how to take my first steps and gradually move faster by strengthening my roots.
Request you all to show me a road map, which would help me overcome any hurdles on the way to my destination of
being certified in at least one module.
I support Foreign Exchange operations and have fair (but not in depth) technical knowledge of how two systems are linked together to get the
job done automatically. Since, basically am from Finance, I have good knowledge on different financial products. Hope this would help you to
determine which module in SAP would be well suited for me.
I request every one of you to, please help me out and guide me so that I can make most of it.
Anxiously looking forward to receive responses.
    Thank you & Regards
    Bilal Ahmed D

    Hi Bilal
Honest question here: Why SAP? You appear to have zero exposure or experience, including not knowing what "SAP AG" is yet you are keen to completely change your career? How did you hear about SAP? Sorry, I do not mean to be unkind.
So far you have described your background and asked what module. You've received some recommendation on what module based on a very high level summary you have provided - back-end operations can mean a multitude of work activities.
I have also tried to provide you with an alternative approach to entering SAP. In my recommendation it is not about being hired because you do have or not have SAP skill set. It is about getting a job because you have industry experience and you just happen to now work for a company that uses SAP. Once you start working for the company you then start using SAP as an end user. You get more exposure to the system from that point of view. You may even discover that SAP does your head in (it happens to all of us at some point) and you are no longer interested.
I am not a functional person nor industry qualified so I can't say which module is right for you. But the reality is no-one in SCN is qualified to tell you what pursue. Particularly, when you seem to want to change industry as well - sounds like you are planning to go back to square one whether you intend to or not. If you were to change industry, how would you achieve that? Your approach in changing industry would probably include the same steps as changing product knowledge to SAP: research, hard work, networking, job application, etc and a bit of luck and opportunity presenting itself at the right time for you to capitalise on.
How intensely you should work will also come down your natural abilities and motivation/desire to succeed in my career path.
For education, search SCN for Learning Hub. You can obtain free access to some course material which would include introduction for you to have a look and see what it's all about and what takes your interest.
But please keep in mind (and search other posts here).. a lot of freshers seek training and certification with expectation it will lead to a well-paid job. They then come here and ask why no one hires freshers or why did they spend all this money on certification when experience is sought. You have experience, just a different flavour.
    Regards
    Colleen

  • Regarding CCNA Routing & Switching certification.

    Hi,
Benefits of CCNA Routing & Switching Certifications ?
What are the companies that will look for the certifiied candidates ?
How will this certification enhance my career and as well as pay ?
Can i consider this certfication just like our university certificates ?
What type of recognization we will have with the help of this certification?
Please input all of your views. I'm just in a confused state and getting all of these quesiton in my mind.
    Regards,
    Chandu

I can throw my two cents in as well
I believe when certifications were first introduced, it was a way for employers to "know" they are interviewing with someone who has experience in the field that their certification was in. In the early 90s, I remember seeing so many people drop out of school because bootcamps promised them they would make more money in six weeks of training than they would with a four year degree. Then employers started to ask for four-year degrees along with certifications. And finally, four-year degrees, certifications, and experience. I believe this is partly to blame for the big boom in online education....but, I digress.
I agree with everyone else on here about certifications are not necessary. But, I do believe they help. If a potential employer is looking through resumes and they come across yours, a CCNA on your resume would have you stand out quicker than a person with a four-year degree in MIS. Why do I believe that? Because, as devils_advocate mentioned, CCNA is focused, and it's assumed that if you put the time/effort into that certification, then you obviously know what path you're going to go down. The MIS degree is more broad, and an employer, from that degree, may not know what your focuses are on.
Personally, I would guard against one thing as I've run into this many times in my own career. Certification paths require you to takes tests that are in a track. Sometimes, those tracks have tests on subjects that you may never come across in the real world. That being said, you may apply for a position someone could be advertising for only to find out that it's heavily focused on the area of your certification that you've never had real experience in. For example, I had my MCSE back in the 90s. My "finishing" exam was Exchange 5.0. I was a consultant that managed other peoples networks and was basically a "jack of all trades" if you will. The problem was that I didn't have any real experience with Exchange until one client, a quite large one, called in needing help. The company I worked for stated that they had a certified Exchange administrator on staff and I could be out there pretty quick. Long story short, it was Exchange 2000 and they were two very different beasts. It took me quite a while to figure out what the issue was, but long story short, I didn't have enough real world experience with something that I was certified in. I'm pretty sure all of us at one time in this industry has experienced being in these uncomfortable situations at one point or another....especially if you're going the certification route.
I also believe that the certification tracks are a "cover all bases" route. I think vendors that design these tests are designed to build on your knowledge from the ground up, and eventually everything will come into full circle by the time you're certified in whatever path you choose. This is why you are required to have a valid CCNA before you can attempt other Cisco tracks (with the exception of CCIE (no prerequisite is required)).
I completely agree with Jon as well. Sometimes certifications are more for the holder of the cert than the company they're wanting to work for. The company may look at it as "awww that's nice", but it will help you get in the door. I would look at it as more of a personal goal and take the knowledge that you get from that and build on it. If you like it, it's well worth doing!
    HTH,
    John

  • HANA certification

    Hi Friends,
What is the procedure to go for a HANA certification?
    I would like to know:
1)what are the kinds of certificate options available?
    2) what is the amount in INR payable for each?
    3) is there any study material available for preparation?
    4) do we have to go to a test center or is can the exam be taken remotely?
I have worked primarily on the modeler perspective (modeling views / writing sql scripts and stored procedures)
It would be of great help if the test takers could provide some insight about the certificate exam(pattern, duration, cost etc)

  • Modelling different workflow-options

    Hi,
There is a wiki which tells us the different work-flow options you can use:
    SAP Business Workflow,
    Guided Procedures
    Collaboration tasks
    ccBPM
    etc.
Question1: is the a comprehensive tool to model these different altogether or do we need SAP Business Workflow's own modelling tool, UML for guided procedures, ? for Collaboration tasks and BPMN for BPEL separately (I hope it's not...).
Question 2: How does ARIS EPC's relate to this: the EPC is used for business-modelling. This should be the starting point for configurating different workflow-options, (using different models?).
    Greetings Theo

    Hi Theo,
I've nothing to hide but that quote was taken from an internal SAP mail so it wasn't polished for forum publication.
Just to clarify - I agree with your description of the layers.
I believe that a bpx working in an SAP environment should be aware of the tools (and approximate capabilities) at their disposal as well as basic functionality in the underlying business components deployed.
I believe that any question along the lines of "how do you do this with..tool A" is definitely not for the bpx forum. It should go in the relevant tools forum. Seeing as most of these posts are related to SAP Business Workflow or BAM or XI then they should go in the SAP NetWeaver BPM forum. There is also a CAF forum for guided procedures and a Visual Composer forum for VC and other forums for the other tools (such as BI). I.e. No need to create a new forum, just direct these tool posts to the tools forums.
I don't know whether BPMN or UML can really be understood by the business experts. In my experience white-boarding and flow-charts work pretty well but maybe the business experts have become more process savvy (which is why we want to offer certification).
Experience in a process automation project is a must, and knowledge about why this process is being done in such-and-such a way (e.g. 6-Sigma understanding) is also a must.
The BPX can reach level 1 from either level 1 or level 3. Philip Kisloff's BPX article is an excellent demonstration of level 3. Yes, he did use workflow to solve the problem but he had his bpx glasses on when he wrote the article.
