CF Card formatted itself?

I upgraded to Mavericks the other day, and today when I plugged in my memory card (CF card with raw files from a Nikon D800) and opened Aperture, all of a sudden the memory card was named "My Book" (coincidentally this is the name of my external HDD I use for Time Machine) and was formatted in Mac OS X Journaled format, and was now blank. Right before plugging the card into the reader I reviewed several of the images in camera and they were fine. I've NEVER lost data before, and I'm quite sure there's no way I accidentally formatted it.
Has anyone else experienced problems like this? I'm a little blown away that my memory card's format just *magically* changed to OS X Extended...

I've had this happen twice, once with a CF and once with an SD. The first time was with a Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, and the other was with a Canon EOS 70D.
I DO use a WD external hard drive, but I don't think I ever installed the included software on my computer (I could be wrong, but it's certainly not there now). And in both cases, the drive was not connected to the computer at the time of the 'My Book' formatting and hadn't been for several days.
The only anomaly I can think of that might have something to do with a trigger is that (in the second case at least... I don't remember if this was the case the first time) the 'My Book' formatting happened the first time I put a card into the computer after the computer had been shut down for a few days.
FWIW, the first time it happened when the card was in an external card reader, and the second time it happened when a card was put into the computer's built-in SD slot.

  • Sd card erased itself when using the windows 7 partition on bootcamp

I just recently set up bootcamp to benefit from some of the features on Windows 7. I followed the procedure and installed the WindowsSupport folder (part of the bootcamp process on an SD card - which was loaded with loads of other files).
I noticed a tricky part of the installation when the Windows 7 disc started to install in that Windows wouldn't install on the bootcamp partition because it wasn't NTFS format. I chose the option to convert the drive to NTFS and the installation completed fine.
I then opened the WindowsSupport folder that I had chosen to have installed on the SD card which contained the bootcamp software and drivers and started the 'setup' process which all looked to be going fine. Next thing I find is that the SD card is blanked and the bootcamp install software reported that it couldn't find the required .msi file.
The reason for this was that the SD card appeared blank. I then selected the option to scan and fix problems which didn't work and just hanged (so I cancelled it).
I am now faced with an SD card with some important data on it that is not recognised (not even registering as there) when put into the SD slot on MAC OSX Mountain Lion and when insterted on the Windows side it just says that it needs formatting (which I haven't done) in order to be usable.
THis all leaves me with a few questions if anyone can help:
1, Can I recover the files on the SD Card & if so, how do I do this when OSX doesn't even recognise the SD card anymore?
2, In my pursuit to complete bootcamp installation, if I were to install the windows support files again from the OSX partiiton, how do I prevent the files from being deleted again? i need to do this to complete the Windows 7 installation as I currently have only the very basic functions with no drivers etc.
3, I previously had an old Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion & Windows Vista and could leave the SD card in the drive and use files on both operating system. As Windows 7 is using NTFS, does this mean I risk having the SD card data deleted everytime I access something from the WIndows 7 side?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thx

That is the standard method, it is fully covered in the Boot Camp Directions.

How was the SD card formatted (and why did you not follow the Boot Camp Directions (use a USB thumb drive formatted as Fat32, or use a DVD)

The files have probably been lost, it was unwise to compound the choice of incorrect media by using media that had 'important data' on it.

No idea, tell me what the format was and I may have a suggestion

Reboot into OSX and read the directions for Boot Camp installation, then follow them exactly

The card must be formatted as FAT32, I would invest $10 in a USB thumb drive, it's cheap.
And I would read the Directions before doing anything else!

Hi.  I am planning a valentines day party for 7 people, I used the "Event Card" format on pages.  It only gave me two cards, I do not know how to get more cards.  Thanks!

    Newest compared to what?
There is a reason we don't say use the "latest" or "best" methods to complete tasks, because they are vague ill defined terms.
Could you return us the favor and tell us exactly what version of Pages on what version of OSX.
    The answer varies.

  • How do I export v-card formatted files for use with either Numbers or Excel?

How do I export v-card formatted files for use with either Numbers or Excel?

Did you open Automator and just look around?
Actions are listed in the left pane.
You drag them into the workflow on the right in the order you need to process the items that you want.
If this is a on-off requirement, just make a Workflow. If you plan to use it often, make it an Application.
If you want to select the contacts you want to export, use a get Selected action. You'd then select the contacts in Contacts App before running the workflow.
I'm not on a Mac to take screenshots, so you'll have to look at Automator's help or google for more info.

  • Updated ipod, but it formatted itself and won't restore. What do I do?

Today I went to go update my operating system on my Ipod touch. I successfully downloaded the new itunes, and went to go update the ipod. When I did this, the ipod formatted itself. When the restore button popped up, I went to go restore the ipod, but an error pops up saying that the connection to the USB port is faulty. I checked all of the ports and they are working properly. The ipod now won't turn on, although I charged it last night.

What is the exact wording of the error message?
Disabling the computer's firewall and anitivirus?
    Rebooting the computer?
    have you tried another cable?
    Another USB port?

  • IPhoto 7 x 10 card format only

    First post greetings.
I was all prepared (and excited) to print my Christmas cards I made in iPhoto last night. Come to find out after a few hours trying to print them on standard US Letter format, Apple only allows their card templates to be printed at 7 x 10.
Apple should let their printing service sell itself, not obstruct users from fully utilizing the features of the darned expensive tool they purchased for these type of projects.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
If you have a 3rd party editor that can handle layers you can follow Tutorial #8 to print your card. That's about the only way I know of to print it and get a borderless card and in correct register from front to back.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Nokia 5610 XM MicroSD Card formatted in pc not wor...

Hi, My 1GB Nokia Micro SD memory card, that came along with Nokia 5610 XM, was corrupted and had no way to fix/remedy/avert the situation unless format the memory. I wasn't able to check if there was indeed a format option in my phone before formatting the microSD memory card via my computer. I formatted the Micro SD in FAT format and had it checked if my phone can detect it, but it read as "Media Player Sync Files" and it was only a folder and not as a memory icon. I also did FAT32 conversion and result was the same.I checked for format options in my phone but there was none.
I searched the internet for answers or clues as to how can I fix the problem and make my phone function back to normal with its memory card, to no avail I found no answers including here. A forum mentioned that I needed to recover back a file from Nokia that will allow the unit to read the memory card. I don't know what that is.
I hope there will be any "detailed help" provided from anyone who knows how to deal with the issue. Thank you.

Thanks to all should anyone else add information regarding my query.
I found the solution the same day I was having been bothered by it. I happen to have formatted the memory card via a card reader thru my pc. My mobile phone detected it as "Media Player Sync files" and it has 0kb even when it is refilled with mp3s. There isn't any problem with the memory card, but the problem was I did not include a name on the Volume Label found during formatting the memory card.
I reinserted the memory card into my card reader and had it formatted, this time with a Volume Label "Memory Card" (compression is FAT, I heard FAT32 is also okay), then I had the mobile phone read the memory card and was able to detect it as "MEMORY CARD" and used its formatting function to formally format the memory card in Nokia's legal grounds. It is now back to normal.

  • Nokia 6288 Memory Card Formatted

I have accidentally formatted my memory card and lost all the data. I have bought my phone in Dubai and I am now in Manila. Can anyone help me how to have the same data by sending me a link or zip file of it? Thanks!

    Muhammad,
Bring your phone to a Nokia Service Center and ask them if they can load the "Preloaded Files"on your memory card.
You can also call the Nokia CareLine for technical assistance.

  • Memory Card Formats??

Hi, I have 2 digital photo frames which take SD Memory cards.
When trying to copy photo's from iPhoto to the cards via a usb card reader, the card gets around half full before I get a "The item cannot be copied because there is not enough free space." message.
Is there a trick to formatting the card to be able to use it's full capacity??
Any advice/help would be gratefully recieved!!
    Cheers,
    Rob
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Had the exact same problem...this is exactly what you have to do (at least this is exactly what I did after so many tries and it finally recognizes all 2Gig of my SD card for a digital frame. OK, here goes:
    1. mount the drive with the reader
    2. open disk utilities
    3. once the drives mount, you should see two drives indicating your DS card, and then the mount under it (the first SD icon is the USB orange icon)
    4. select the first mount (orange USB) and then click erase, choose MS-DOS then press the security options and do a "zero" out.
    5. once this process is complete (about 2 minutes) you will be able to use up all 2Gig (well, 1.9 to be more exact)
Hope this helps. worked for me.

  • Sd card format

i have a number of sd cards that where formated in cameras--i am trying to reformat them in any format that will allow me to store data on them. forget about disk utilities all text boxes are grayed out. if i try to delete the folders on it i get can only read. finder shows the sd card in mounted to volumns/sd card. searching on net gives no info on how to do this--anyone know how to do it?
    tia
    peter

If you still have the camera, reformat them with the camera.
While it may be a windows format, your Mac can read it.
Some camera cards have a tiny switch or lock on them.
Others may have limits as to what they can do with a
computer; since they are supposed to be used with the
utility built into the camera, to reformat them properly.
Data and images can be stored in the original SD's format.
    That'd be a Fat-16 or Fat-32 format, a DOS-like structure.
What kind of card reader are you using with these cards?
One built into the computer or a USB reader should work.
I have two kinds of card readers; one specific to SD/MMC
and another supporting 5+ kinds of memory cards.
If you want to format them with an Apple format, HFS+
that should be do-able in Disk Utility, it should see the
SD card as a hard disk icon and you may select it in
the Disk Utility menu and choose options in the menu
bar to invoke additional utility tools to reformat it.
Since flash memory wears out unevenly, you may wish to
have Disk Utility overwrite the flash memory with Zeros
and then format it. If allowed by the SD card, you should
be able to wipe the old data off there; and level the wear
a little. Older memory cards (a form of flash disk) do not
have the ability to automatically level-wear the memory.
So, they can burn out over-used areas almost totally.
If you ever choose to use the card again with a camera,
a camera will have to reformat it back to what it can read.
    I've done a little experimenting...
PS: with the cost of USB flash drives coming down, if the
camera cards don't work, get something new....
Maybe check some of the leads I just searched for, here:
