CF Server hangs every few days

Every couple of days, ranging from 1 day to 2 weeks, we get
an application that hangs when trying to access a page that uses a
database query. I have to manually restart the CF application
server service to correct the problem. I am unsure what is causing
this.
My Server.log shows multiple entries of the same error
message, but reported in 30 second intervals (which I believe is
due to the option in CF administrator "Timeout Requests after (
seconds ) [30]" )
Here is one line of the Server.log, and this line repeats
over and over in close to 30 second intervals:
"Warning","jrpp-206","02/23/07","13:51:36",,"Thread:
jrpp-206, processing template:
C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\CFMX7\tagout\login.cfm, completed in 30 seconds,
exceeding the 30 second warning limit"
this error message continued through "completed in 1009
seconds" before I restarted the CF service.
When I restart the server, is all back to normal. Sometimes
it can go only a few days before hanging, sometimes up to 2 weeks.
But rarely longer than 2 weeks without a hang.
I have read the "ColdFusion MX Hanging Condition
Investigation" thread, but I didn't get much help from it. I
couldn't tell if my problem was either of the cases described. So
I've come here hoping that someone has the answer! :)

If you are running on MS Access, be sure to disable "Maintain
Connections".
You will also likely benefit by using the Jadozoom JDBC
Driver instead of the native ODBC drivers.

If you are using an enterprise database with JDBC support,
you may benefit by updating to the 3.5 JDBC drivers:

  • Mac server hangs every few days. where to look for cause?

I have a Mac server that hangs every few days and requires a hard reboot.
It is run headless so we have no screen feed back of what is happening when it hangs.
It is possible that just the network communications fail. But it is in software because a reboot restores the situation everytime.
I could use some advice on where to look for possible causes: which logs, or dumps that are produced by the system.
    Thanks

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
    Launch the Console application.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Note the timestamps of the BOOT_TIME log messages, which refer to the times when the system was started. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
☞ When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
☞ If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
☞ Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Loading hanging every few days.

    Hi experts,
I have a scheduled loading of stored procedure, its loading normally, but today it is hanging at some step to loading a physical table. this is not the first time for this issue. this issue occurred multiple time recently. it normally occurred after successfully loading multiple times. for this time, procedure loading successful for 24/25/26/27/28/29 Aug 2012. on 30 Aug 2012, its loading hanging at step 2 to loading some physical table. will you please tell me how to check issue cause ? I am not DBA, just a procedure developer. so will you please recommend some method suited for me?
    appreciate very much.

appreciate very much. This forum is for SQL*PLUS issues. Yours is a detailed situation with a stored procedure and you will get a better, faster answer in the SQL and PL/SQL forum.
Something is happening to make the procedure run slowly on the dates you listed. You will have to analyze the program to find inefficies. Check the SQL very carefully (slow programs are usually due to SQL) but there are analysis tools like DBMS_PROFILER (older) and the Heirarchical profler (newer) that can help you find the slow points in your program

  • Late 2012 iMac Freezes every few days

My iMac has been in the Apple Store for a week with the Geniuses and they came back saying they couldn't find anything so putting this out to this community in the hope someone else can help. Here are the details.
    Model: 21.5 inch Late-2012 iMac
    RAM: 8Gb
    Processor: 2.9Ghz Intel Core i5
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB
Hard Drive: 1.12 Tb Fusion (653Gb free)
    OS: 10.8.4
Software: Fairly vanilla with no MS or Adobe Apps. No system extensions or hacks installed.
Symptom: Every few days or so the iMac locks up. Certain running applications will still work but many common ones such as Pages, Aperture, App Store & TextEdit will hang when trying to open. Force Quitting them doesn't affect them. When I try to shut down the computer it goes to the grey screen and stays there. Eventually the power needs to be turned off to reboot it. This has been doing this for the last several months.
    Solutions Tried:
    - Fixed permissions
    - Reset PRAM
    - Re-install OS X
I can't replicate the crash but today it happened again. At around 3:50pm I went to the iMac and noticed that Pages wouldn't load. Force quitting the App didn't do anything. Aperture was not responding so force quit that. Still wouldn't re-open. Mail was working fine and I was able to send a test message. Safari worked fine. Launched System Preferences ok but could not launch TextEdit or App Store. Calendar opened and closed fine. Attempted to restart the Mac but got the grey screen and after 5 minutes of waiting turned the computer off & relaunched it.
Here is a snapshot of some Console entries:

Notice that the last Console entry was at 2:47pm (in red) and then nothing. I went to use the computer at 3:50pm and did several actions on it. Plugged in iPad, opened iTunes. Copied a file from the iPad to the desktop. Prior to that it hadn't been used for several hours. The shutdown that I selected does not appear in the log (although it only managed to go to the grey screen rather than complete a full shut down).
Appreciate any clues at all here. This is very frustrating and has been going on for far too long.
    TIA. Jordan

Back up all data immediately as your boot drive may be failing.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'Channel t|GPU D|I/O|Previous Sh' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

You have an ordinary install of Mac OS X 10.6.7 -- except that no one should be running that today. You should upgrade to 10.6.8 right away to get better protection from malware.
You have modified the Mac OS X kernel by installing these extensions:
    com.paceap.kext.pacesupport.snowleopard 5.9.1
    com.digidesign.iokit.DigiDal 8.1.1d2
Pace.app is a known troublemaker. It is used to ensure that you don't steal some expensive software package, but it thinks it is an Anti-Virus program as well. It's not helpful.
The panic occurred in Managed Client. It is very unusual to be running that unless you have  a Server or have enabled Parental Controls. The NTFS driver was in the backtrace as well.
Your Mac Pro 3,1 has Error Correcting Code Memory. Memory problems are detected in Hardware. This report is not a memory problem report.

  • SMB Service Stopping every few days

The SMB Service on my 10.5.6 XServe has developed a habit of stopping at random every few days.
I've found the error in older, archived posts, with no solution.
The only hallmark seems to be that the system.log spits out a line saying "servermgrd: readFile File /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.smb.server.plist is not a valid plist" before the smb process terminates.
The other thing is that instead of starting the process again, I have to promote it to PDC and enable Guest Access, as if the plist is deleted (unsurprising if it is corrupt).
    Help! Anyone!

We installed our Leopard server on Sunday and today (Tuesday) the SMB service wouldn't allow any new users on.
We had to stop and start it again.
I am wondering if sing this 10.4 fix would work?

  • WRT160NL hangs every other day

Doing a google search, and searching this forum, apparently every other day hangs are not that unusual for Linksys products.
In any case, repeated hangs have been a problem since I installed my WRT160NL about 3 weeks ago. I'm trying to decide if I should just return it to the store, or keep futzing with it.
I have already reset the router and reconfigured it - made no difrerence. I'm running Firmware Version: 1.00.01 B15, which isn't the latest - an upgrade is the final thing to try. I have tracked the hangs over the last 7 days, and found the unusual pattern of a hang every 2 days, about 36-48 hours apart. This must mean something, but I can't figure out what.
MY QUESTION... Apparently the log on this router completely disapears every time its booted - it might help if there was some way to see if there is a common event before the hang. Any suggestions of how to preserve the log?
Any other suggestions welcome. Chat support really doesn't know that much about this product - so far that has proven a waste of time.
    thnx,

Try to reflash the router's firmware and reconfigure it....
Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • I need to share a file with sec.(windows based). She uses it all the time. I need to just download updated version every few days. I have an old airport extreme and was hoping to attach an external drive. Will this work?

I need to download an updated version of a file every few days to use. My secretary  works on the file all the time. I thought i could use my old airport extreme and attach an external HD and set up a network to do just this. At work we alll use pc's. How can i make this work? At the moment we use usb stick to transfer which is getting to be a bit of a pain as the file grows every week. Presently 5GB.

I thought i could use my old airport extreme and attach an external HD and set up a network to do just this.
Yes, you can use either the 802.11g or 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) to attach an external USB HDD for file sharing. Either AEBS model would allow you to share out this HDD to either Macs or PCs. From the PC, the shared HDD would appear as a network drive which you can map via Windows Explorer.

  • Does it create a problem if I only connect the backup external drive every few days for use with Time Machine?  Should I have purchased Time Capsule instead?

After a near miss with my 4-year old MacBook, I finally wised up and purchased a WD My Passport for Mac to back up my hard drive. I connected the Passport today and have performed the first full backup.  However, I do not wish to keep it permanently connected to the laptop.  Does this create a problem if I only connect the drive every few days?  Should I have purchased Time Capsule instead?

    Hello,
I don't think it'll cause a problem, but I'd disable/turn off Time Machine before disconnecting, then turn it back on after you connect it again.

  • IPhone loses WiFi every few days

Hi. My iPhone 4S has been acting strange recently. Every few days or so my WiFi will stop working. It shows In the corner that it's connected but nothing that uses the Internet works. I go into Settings and turn WiFi off and on and it tries to connect but the wheel just spins next to the network name. Other devices in my house work fine during that time but the iPhone won't connect. Usually the only way I can get it working again is to reset my network settings on the phone.
I'm wondering if it's my router possibly? It's a Linksys WRT54G that we've had for a long time. I'm using WPA Personal. Could my router be getting too old? Ive also noticed lately that my WiFi strength goes from two to three bars quite a bit on the iPhone. I always had full bars in the past. My channel is on 11 but I tried to change it the other day which caused my Xbox to not connect so that's another reason I'm leaning toward the router being too old. But the fact that my phone can lose signal while everything else in my house is unaffected makes me feel like it could be the phone.
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • New AirPort Extreme w/ Time Machine disk crashes every few days

I bought an AirPort Extreme base station about a month ago. It's currently in bridge mode, connected to my U-Verse residential gateway, and has a 1 TB hard drive attached to it that I use for Time Machine backups. The drive is formatted HFS+ and both computers that connect to the AirPort are MacBooks. Every few days, usually overnight, Time Machine will stop working, saying that it cannot connect to the backup disk. If I try to access the shared disk in FInder, it times out. The Internet connection works fine and if I go into the AirPort Utility, it shows up. But if I click on "Manual Setup," it will time out. If I try to restart the router from the menu bar option, it will time out. The only way to fix it is to manually unplug the router and restart it that way. Is anyone else having a similar issue, or know how to prevent it?

I hate to have to tell you this, but backing-up that way is "iffy" and +*not supported by Apple.+* See Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

Yup, that's the sort of thing that happens sometimes in this scenario.
You might be able to improve that by, of all odd things, changing some names. See #P1 in the same place.
Another possibility is the external HD going to sleep and not waking up quickly enough. Check with the maker for firmware updates or ways to adjust it's sleep (or "spin down") performance.

That, I suspect, is a different problem (and mostly out of my area).
But this Apple article may be helpful: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
Hopefully one of the networking gurus, such as Tesserax or Bob Timmons, will have more insight.

  • Re-license every few days

I recently purchased CC and I'm being constantly nagged about licensing my product.  It's been licensed for the better part of a month, but every few days I get a pop-up that says that I have 0 days left and I need to buy or license.  I click license and it checks with momma and says I'm OK.  In a day or two we'll go thru this drill again.  After a month of this it's getting really irritating ... REALLY irritating!  Anybody know what's up?
    Thanks
