CF10 standard on Linux

Does CF10 run on RHEL 5.10, the last update for v5?

Hi baylegg,
ColdFusion 10 is officially supported on RHEL 5.6 and 6.1. You can install it on RHEL 5.10 as well and should not face any issues.

  • Portlets supported in CF10 Standard?

    Hi there CF people!
Are portlets supported in CF 10 standard? We are putting a server together to handle portlet versions of our apps, and wondered if CF 10 standard has remote portlet support?
    Thanks!
    Dave Kraft

I sure appreciate the answer Pete!
BTW I was reading your posts and presentations last week on portlets using previous CF versions. I'm wondering how popular the mix of CFand portlet servers is.
On the subject of CF10 standard, I read this morning that HTML5 charts were crippled in CF10 standard, forcing users to buy the Enterprise version if they want that feature. Have you heard that too?

  • CF10 Standard reverted to Developer and remains there

    hi there
I have a very strange behavior: Since years, we run CF10 Standard on Win2k3 for an old productive site. Some weeks ago, I faced some DOS-like problems on it and discovered that CF Admin shows the version as Developer Edition. This was absolutely surprising to me as we have a valid CF10 Standard Serial since 2012. Of course I entered it immediately again but to no avail. CF10 would remain in developer state.
Can this be caused by some CF10 Updates? We are at Update 13. Afaik, we do not need anything that is a CF10 Enterpreise feature. Can it be that some CF10Ent feature was turned on somehow that now prevents entering a Standard serial? And if so, what can I do to get bacl to a full working CF10 Standard? Any other ideas?
CF10 currently runs on Apache 2.2.27. Apache was updated several times over time.
This is critical because of the IP limitations. Lucky we that this system is used only seldomly. But still: DOS like problems appear.
Any ideas how to correct that?
not to say that this is quite urgent to me ...
    Thanks
    Tinu

    Hi Tinu,
Go to \ColdFusion10\cfusion\lib and locate license.properties. Open this file in notepad or wordpad and then you will find the ColdFusion 10 Serial number there. If not, then please type in your license key, save the file and Restart the ColdFusion services.
    This should work for you.

  • CF8 Standard on Linux 64bit?

    Hi all,
I tried to install CF8 64bit on a 64bit Linux machine and it automatically got reverted to a developer version as our license key is for a standard version and not for an enterprise version, ok so far so good. I went back and installed the 32bit version on the machine and entered the code, seems to work fine BUT: I have CF running behind an Apache web server and I configured the Apache connector to be able to access the CF Admin via a regular URL, eg. http://dev.company.com/CFIDE/administrator instead using the port (eg. http://dev.company.com:8500/CFIDE/administrator) on which CF is running. CF told me, that it won't work with an Apache 64bit. I must say I'm little bit confused. Some questions on that:
    - Is it correct, I need an enterprise license to run CF8 64bit?
    - Can I install and run my standard license somehow on the 64bit machine?
    - Does CF9 help me in this case by being 64bit capable in the standard edition?
    - Or at least can I install CF9 in a 64bit environment?
Thank you very much for any advice, cheers
    Peter

  • Can I install Adobe Media Server - AMS 5 standard unto Linux Centos 6?

I would like to know if I can install AMS 5 standard on Centos 6? And if so which version would be best?
I see that Amazon EC2 runs a Adobe Media Server 5 version on a Centos 6.3 OS. So it must be possible right?
I have tried to install AMS 5 on Centos 7 but have not been able to get HTTP Dynamic streaming to work properly, so don't want to stuggle again, but I also don't want to be stuck with Centos 5 anymore as I cannot run Lavarel on there or the latest version of PHP.
Can someone please explain whether this is possible?

Yes AMS works on all CentOS 6.x...Centos 7 is not supported...You are always encouraged to use latest version of AMS which is 5.0.7 as on date.

  • Server Monitoring Feature Unavailable - CF10 Standard

    Hi,
We have recently undergone the process of installing ColdFusion 10 Standard on our new server, and were looking to test performance across the two.
Within the ColdFusion Administrator, Server Monitoring>Settings and Server Monitoring>Server Monitor, I receive the message, "This feature is not available in this edition of the ColdFusion server.
Under System Information the version is listed as 10.0.11.285437 and up to date. The server itself is running Windows Server 2008 R2.
This was the original article to configure server monitoring.
However I then ended up with another article, which involved editing neo-monitoring.xml (linked in previous), which did not appear to do anything.
If someone can shed some light on why I am getting this error, as it says the standard version only limits use of the monitoring API, that would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
You need Enterprise or Developer edition to run CF Server Monitor.
You could try Java JVM logging or JMX style monitoring that is freely available in Java which CF Standard and Enterprise runs on to get some performance metrics.
    HTH, Carl.

  • Dualbooting t61p (xp sp3 & GNU/Linux)

    Fellow ubergeeks,
I have a t61p (6459 CTO, Penryn dual core 2.5GHz, NVIDIA Quadro FX570M 512MB, 1680x1050 monitor, 82801H (ICH8 family) audio controller, Intel 82566MM Gigabit & 4965AGN network adaptors, 3GB ram with Intel GM965 chipset). I am a physicist and do most of my computational/modeling work on GNU/Linux and would like to make the system dualboot with XP and any one of the standard GNU/Linux distros out there (I prefer a minimalistic system, preferably running Debian or its variants like Ubuntu). I am posting this to know the experiences of people who have walked this way before. I am a long time DELL (inspiron/other models) user and this is the first time I am using a thinkpad. So pardon my ignorance. Here goes:
    1. What are the things I should know before proceeding? I would like to keep the XP (I think "thinkvantage" is really nice). I have read about the 'hidden' partition, would this be deleted if I use GRUB as the bootloader?
    2. From your experience, which distro would best support the hardware? Do most of the things (e.g., s2ram, s2hdd, FN keys etc.) work out of the box?  I am aware of 'thinkwiki' and will read more in detail. Any nagging problems? Please advice.
Thanks for your time and help.

    1. Make the recovery discs for XP before you do anything else. Make the first disc a cd and the rest can be either 2 dvd's or 7 cd's. Grub will allow you to get to the restore partition but you never know when something will go wrong and you will need the discs.
    2. A lot of people here are having good results with Linux Mint which is a Ubuntu derivative. There are no Thinkvantage tools for Linux. Most other things can be made to work. Some are easy and some are not so easy. It depends on how much work you want to put into it to get a certain functionality. I have never had a lot of luck with hibernate in Windows or Linux . Suspend is OK in Windows and sometimes it is OK in Linux. I never bother with either one. The function keys work for the most part.

  • CF10 Production Best Practices

Is there a document or additional information on the best way to configure multiple instances of CF10 in a production environment? Do most folks install CF10 as a ear/war J2EE deployment under JBoss or Tomcat with Apache as the webserver?

There’s no such document that I know of, no.
And here’s a perfect example where “best practices” is such a loaded phrase.
You wonder if “install CF10 as a ear/war J2EE deployment under JBoss or Tomcat with Apache as the webserver”. I’d say the answer to that is “absolutely not”. Most folks do NOT deploy CF as a JEE ear/war. It’s an option, yes. And if you are running A JEE server already, then it does make great sense to deploy CF as an ear/war on said container.
But would it be a recommended practice for someone installing CF10 without interest in JEE deployment? I’d say not likely, unless they already have familiarity with JEE deployment.
Now, could one argue “but there are benefits to deploying CF on a JEE container”? Sure, they could. But would it be a “best practice”? Only in the minds of a small minority I think (those who appreciate the beenfits of native JEE deployment and containers). Of course, CF already deploys on a JEE container (Tomcat in CF10, JRun in CF 6-9), but the Standard and Enterprise Server forms of deployment hide all that detail, which is best for most. With those, we just have a ColdFusion directory and are generally none-the-wiser that it runs on JRun or Tomcat.
That leads then to the crux of your first sentence: you mention multiple instances. That does change things quite a bit.
First, a couple point of clarification before proceeding: in CF 7-9, such “multiple instance” deployment was for most folks enabled using the Enterprise Multiserver form of deployment, and created a Jrun4 directory where instances were installed (as distinguished from the Enterprise Server form I just mentioned above, which hid the JRun guts).
In CF10, though, there is no longer a “multiserver” install option. It’s just that CF10 Enterprise (or Trial or Developer editions) does let you create new instances, using the same Instance Manager in the CF admin that existed for CF Enterprise Multiserver from 7-9. CF10 still only lets you create with the Enterprise (or trial or developer) edition, not Standard.
(There is a change in CF10 about multiple instances, though: note that in CF10, you never see a Tomcat directory, even if you want “multiple instances”. When you create them, they are created right under the CF10 directory, as siblings to the cfusion directory (and while that cfusion directory previously existed only in the CF 7-9 multiserver form of deployment, it does not exist even in CF10 Standard, as the only instance it can use.)
So all that is a lot of info, not any “best practices”, but you asked if there was any “additional info”, and I thought that helpful for you to have as you contemplate your options. (And of course, CF10 Enterprise does still let you deploy as a JEE ear/war if you want.)
But no, doing it would not be a best practices. If someone asked for “the best way to configure multiple instances of CF10 in a production environment”, I’d tell them to just proceed as they would have in CF 7-9, using the same CF Admin Instance Manager capability to create them (and optionally cluster them).
All that said, everything about CF10 does now run on Tomcat instead of JRun, and some things are improved under the covers, like clustering (and related things, like session replication), because those are now Tomcat-based features (which are actively updated and used by the Tomcat community), rather than JRun-based (which were pretty old and hardly used by anyone since JRun was EOL-ed several years ago).
I’ll note that I offer a talk with a lot more detail contrasting CF10 on Tomcat to CF9 and earlier on JRun. That may interest you, snormo, so check out the presentations page at carehart.org.
    Hope all that’s helpful.
    /charlie
PS You conclude with a mention of Apache as the web server. And sure, if one is on a *nix depoyiment or just favors Apache, it’s a fine option. But someone running CF 10 on Windows should not be discouraged from running on IIS. It’s come a long way and is now very secure, flexible, and capable, whether used for one or multiple instances of CF.

  • IAS 10.1.2.0.2 on Enterprise Linux

    hi all,
we are venturing into the world of oracle on linux (without any real knowlege on linux), so ive decided on installing Enterprise Linux 5 rather than ubuntu or similar.
ive installed standard Enterprise Linux 5 setup on a server and included the base addon of 'Oracle Validation' which created the user, group and permissions etc, so the oracle installer kinda works out of the box.
ive had no issue installing DB 10.1.0.2 this way, but when i try with IAS 10.1.2.0.2 infrastructure i seem to get an "OPMN process manager failed to start" warning at 66% and to check /home/oracle/infra/opmn/logs for the cause. below is the HTTP_server~1 file.

/home/oracle/infra/Apache/Apache/bin/httpd: error while loading shared libraries: libdb.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    can anybody offer any advice?

Seen similar problems before and the solution was to ge tall the required RPMs installed. I remember I had a problem with not having a 32 bit version of a RPM installed (sometimes both the 64-bit and the 32-bit) is required.

  • CF10 Install Kaput

CF10 Standard Edition 64 bit, Windows 2012, IIS 8. Initially I installed the CF10 before moving the CF8 sites to the new server. I added the IIS and DNS records manually ahead of moving the site files to minimize downtime. Done this before. Lots of 404 Page not Found errors until we learned that every domain needed a virtual directory for CFIDE and jakarta. A few of the domains started to take shape, but eventually the CF Admin went blank. No error, no login - gone.
This morning I uninstalled and reinstalled CF10 and noted that all of the IIS entries had the virtual directory mapping included if they hadn't alreaday. But still no CFAdmin, which makes everything else kind of pointless. Instead of going forward, we punted and reactivated the old server where the CF8 chugging along which keeps my clients happy. Because I cannot login to the CFAdmin, I cannot tell you  the build version was but I did purchase it on April 3rd and downloaded it the same day so I'd hope the install exe was the latest and greatest.
I found very little posted online for troubleshooting CF10 & Windows 2012. An abundance of Windows 2008 and CF9, but not having much experience with either I couldn't know for sure what was relevant or not. The CGI and ASAPI had to be available on the new server or CF10 would not install and I spent lots of time checking those this morning as it seemed to be part of the solution to many past postings on various sites.
What to do? Get a refund on the CF10? Anyone out there that married CF10 and Windows 2012 experience and remedy anything similar? Anyone tried CF9 on Windows 2012?
As always, all help is appreciated.
    Tim

Tim, sorry to hear of your challenges. You’re not alone, but I would assert that this is not an issue of CF10 and Server 2012.
Instead, I think the primary problem in in your comment, “I did purchase it on April 3rd and downloaded it the same day so I'd hope the install exe was the latest and greatest.”
No, the version you download was not the latest and greatest. (And this is nothing new for CF10, as I discuss in this entry from 2010, at http://www.carehart.org/blog/client/index.cfm/2010/12/11/cfmyths_latest_installer_includes _all_updates)
But focusing on CF10, yes, you needed to apply updates. Some good news is that these are now automated in CF10, via the Admin Server Updates page. Better news is that they are cumulative, so you only need to do the latest.
But more important for your problem, I suspect, do note that for some of the CF10 updates you need to rerun the CF web server configuration tool after them, to remove and read the connections.
More to the point, in a new install of CF10, you need to a) install it, b) apply the latest update, and then c) rebuild the web server configuration.

  • In-place upgrade of CF10 from 32-bit to 64-bit?

We initially installed CF10 32-bit because we had some legacy COM objects that needed to run.  We've finally gotten rid of those objects and I would like to convert to 64-bit.  Is there an easy way to convert/upgrade that would preserve all/most/some of my configuration?  Or do I have to do a complete uninstall/reinstall?
    Windows Server 2008 R2
    IIS 7.5
    CF10 Standard
    thanks!

I recommend doing a clean uninstall/install.  You can make a copy of the neo-*.xml files found in \ColdFusion10\cfusion\lib somewhere first.  These .xml files contain most of the configuration settings you set in CF Administrator.  After installing the 64-bit version, make a backup of the clean .xml files somewhere safe, then copy over the ones you grabbed from your 32-bit installation.  That way, if ColdFusion restarts without issue, you are good to go.  If not, you have backups of clean .xml files to restore from.

  • CF10 enterprise - how to disable cfexecute for all sites (sandbox)

    Hello,
I have a new CF10 server which I will be using as shared hosting for my clients.
I would like to disable the following tags and functions globally:
    TAGS
    CFCONTENT
    CFFILE
    CFDIRECTORY
    CFEXECUTE
    CFOBJECT
    CFREGISTRY
    FUNCTIONS
    GetProfileString
    SetProfileString
    CreateObject
I know in CF10 Standard I can block these for all sites using 'resource security', this will stop these tags from running at all.
In CF10 Enterprise I have the option to create multiple sandboxes, but is it possible to create one global sandbox for all sites?
    My directory structure looks like:
    D:\sites\site1
    D:\sites\site2
    D:\sites\site3
Can I create a sandbox disabling the above tags and functions just for D:\sites and all subfolders?
I have tried but it does not seem to work - I have a sandbox setup for D:\sites with the above tags and functions disabled, but using a test script I can still use cfexecute in site1 to execute netstat.
I do not wish to create a sandbox for each site as when new sites are added I would need to manually add a sandbox each time.
If anyone has any ideas it would be most appreciated.
    Cheers
    Luke
( I have asked this in a different place on the CF forums as got no response, i think because I placed it in the wrong place. Sorry if this double post upsets anyone but I need some help!)

    D:\sites\site1
    D:\sites\site2
    D:\sites\site3
If you define the sandbox to sites folder, then the settings also apply to sub-directories (as the sub directories will inherit the property from parent).
It is working at my end perfectly fine.

  • CF10 Failover support for database

    Hi all,
I've been using ColdFusion 10 Standard for some time and recently noticed that there is Failover support for databases on CF10 Standard
CF10 Enterprise edition can enable Cluster for load balancing and fail over for application and sessions
What is this failover support for database on CF10 Standard edition all about?
Can't seem to find any documents or discussion about this
