CF8 to run what else needed, any server software, what else [total size will be CF8(350MB)+...?]

CF8 for xp that ships now is 64bit ? when new edition of CF
is scheduled ? CF8 to run what else needed, any server software,
what else [total size will be CF8(350MB)+...?] ? CF8 supports php
files write/view ?

ColdFusion 8 - Developer Edition (Free) in NOT an IDE, it is
an
application server. it does NOT come with an IDE (at least
yet...)
IDEs for CF development:
1) Adobe Dreamweaver (NOT free;
http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/)
2) Eclipse + CFEclipse plug-in (free;
http://www.eclipse.org/ +
http://www.cfeclipse.org/)
3) HomeSite (NOT free;
http://www.adobe.com/products/homesite/)
4) ColdFusion Studio (NOT free; discontinued, but you can
still buy used
copies...)
you could use any hml/text editor to write CFML, but the
above have
built-in features (like intellisense, code hinting, code
highlighting,
built-in add-ons and wizards) specifically for CFML
development.

I would like to share my ipad on my Windows machine. I got the Ipad to HDMI adaptor but nothing is displayed on the screen... Do I need any additional softwares?
Actually I would like to have the Ipad connected to pc and then run an application on the ipad (which is shown on my windows machine) and record it on the windows machine... Is this feasible?

If you have an HDMI connection on your computer, it is most likely an output, it won't recieve a signal unless it's on a video capture card. Recording to the PC could be a difficlut task. HDMI is encrypted to keep you from copying but there are ways to do it. It would also depend on what content you intended on recording. If it's movies you have purchased or rented, it would be illegal.

  • Why is the process opendirectoryd running on my ML MBP?  I am not running any server software

Lots of entries in the system log:
    Feb 10 13:50:55 MacBook-Pro.local authorizationhost[6960]: in pam_sm_authenticate(): OpenDirectory - The authtok is incorrect.
    Feb 10 13:50:59 MacBook-Pro.local authorizationhost[6960]: in pam_sm_authenticate(): OpenDirectory - The authtok is incorrect.
This is a standard user MBP with 10.8.2. I've never installed Open Directory, it is not running any server, X10 or developer software.
The search engines all tie OpenDirectory to OS X Server ML
    Thanks,
    J

Open Directory is a server component.  However, opendirectoryd is a client-side component.  From the man page:
    opendirectoryd(8)         BSD System Manager's Manual        opendirectoryd(8)
    NAME
opendirectoryd -- is a launchd(8) job for client access to local or
         remote directory systems
Basically, this handles login information.  You log into your Mac so it will be running :-)

  • Does my macbook pro need any antivirus softwares?

Ive recently got a macbook 13inch pro laptop. I've heard that they don't need any antivirus protection programmes but the shop assistant in john lewis said did? some of the basic antivirus softwares are norton and comodo. Thanks

some of the basic antivirus softwares are norton and comodo.
Those are two of the worst examples.
There will always be threats to your information security associated with using any Internet - connected communications tool:
You can mitigate those threats by following commonsense practices
Delegating that responsibility to software is an ineffective defense
Assuming that any product will protect you from those threats is a hazardous attitude that is likely to result in neglecting point #1 above.
... I've heard that they don't need any antivirus protection programmes
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "clean up", "speed up",  "optimize", "boost" or "accelerate" your Mac; to "wash" it, "tune" it, or to make it "shiny". Those claims are absurd.Such products are very aggressively marketed. They are all scams.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources.
Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
"Questionable sources" include but are not limited to spontaneously appearing web pages or popups, download hosting sites such as C net dot com, Softonic dot com, Soft pedia dot com, Download dot com, Mac Update dot com, or any other site whose revenue is primarily derived from junk product advertisements.
If you need to install software that isn't available from the Mac App Store, obtain it only from legitimate sources authorized by the software's developer.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iCloud, iTunes, or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Beware spontaneous popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > check "Block popup windows".
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but unsolicited popups are commonly used to deceive people into installing unwanted software they would never intentionally install.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever receive a popup window indicating that your Mac is infected with some ick or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
The same goes for a spontaneously appearing dialog insisting that you upgrade your video player right this instant. Such popups are frequently associated with sites that promise to deliver "free" movies or other copyrighted content that is not normally "free".
The more insistent it is that you upgrade or install something, the more likely it is to be a scam. Close the window or tab and forget it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. Most of these attempts are pathetic and are easily recognized, but that hasn't stopped prominent public figures from recently succumbing to this age-old scam.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • Can I tell if I have activated any tracking software on my Macbook that will help me find it.

My Macbook Pro was stolen today.  I know that I have logged into iCloud from this laptop before but I am not sure that I have specifically activated any tracking software.  Can anyone suggest any ideas for tracking this down - unlikely I think.

Find my Mac may be enabled on your MacBook Pro. To check this, open http://www.icloud.com on any PC or Mac, log in with your Apple ID and choose Find my iPhone. Your Mac's location will show up if it's connected to the Internet, and you will be able to lock or wipe it. Also, you can do this through an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with the Find my iPhone app.
If you can't track the MacBook, there's no way to locate it at the moment. If the thief erased the MacBook, you won't be able to track it anymore even if you enabled Find my Mac

  • Does my Mac need any antivirus software, or is this already built in?

This question has probably been asked many times, but I'm still very confused! I've heard completely different things, saying I don't need antivirus software and I do. I sometimes use websites with a risk of viruses to watch TV programmes and films online or to download music etc, so perhaps it is safer to download some software? Any answers would be great!

My recommendation used to be no. However, in the present environment, I don't believe that's valid anymore. This is just my opinion. My suggestion is to look at this:
    http://www.clamxav.com/
    Or this:
    http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-mac-home-ed ition.aspx
Both are free & won't necessarily muck up your system. Read about both & decide yourself.

Open up the  App Store from the Apple logo. In the Featured tab search for OS X Mavericks under Top Free. This is 10.9. Click on the Free Upgrade option which should update the Mac to 10.9 which will hopefully allow Server to run.

  • What anti-virus server software is available?

I've got OS X Server 10.4.8 running, with clamav doing its thing, and quite well. However, I was wondering what third party AV software is available to be the primary scanner?
The reason is that while blocking infected mail has been good, I'd like a system that will intercept and clean files (normally macro virus stuff) and pass them along to the recipient.
Currently users are trying to email files, and when they get blocked they iChat them instead, spreading the infection.
I couldn't find any server software on Symantec or McAfee's sites.

    Hello,
Symantec recommends that you use the same Symantec AV software for clients and servers. They do not have any specific AV software for Mac OS X Server. http://www.symantec.com/enterprise/products/overview.jsp?pcid=1008&pvid=825_1
Intego has Virus Barrier Server and Virus Barrier Mail Gateway for file and mail servers respectively (released Sept. 2006). Located at http://www.intego.com/vbserver/
Sophos has Sophos Anti Virus available. http://www.sophos.com/products/es/endpoint/sav-mac.html Like Symantec it is the same software for client and server.
McAfee also only has one solution for clients and servers. http://www.mcafee.com/us/enterprise/products/antivirus/file_serversdesktops/virex.html
Intego's products are fairly recent September 2006 so I don't know how much experience there is with their products out there.
Hope that gives you a brief overview of the products available.
As for your current issue, you can take four approaches (although I am sure there are more).
    1. AV software on the clients stopping macro viruses on the desktops
    2. AV software on a file server and use network home directories (also stopping viruses at the client level)
    3. Intego's Virus Barrier Mail Gateway on your mail gateway
    4. Network appliance based Anti-Virus gateway and route mail through it

  • FIori Application on Portal, does we need gateway server?

    Hi All

    So

    seems need gateway server.
    but quite confusing...
if SAP provide ESS MSS (sca) packages for Portal.
Why not sca file for SAP FIORI apps. so not need gateway server.

  • Is there Time machine compatible PC server software?

I'm a photographer and running a dual hard drive Macbook Pro and I've reached the point where my NAS backup drive is not big enough for Time Machine to backup to. In order for me to upgrade the backup drive I'm looking at about £500 ($750) as I need one big enough not just big enough.
I have an old PC that is currently running Windows Server and is connected to my network, which obviously isn't Time Machine compatible. As buying HDD is cheaper than pre-boxed NAS drives, I wanted to use this instead.
Is there any server software that is compatible with Time Machine and I can use to build a home server? If not, I'd best start saving and hope my laptop doesn't crash or get stolen.
    Thanks in advance.

No, there's no supported means to target archival storage onto a Windows box with Time Machine.
As you're likely aware, Time Machine only supports specific devices as targets, and the file server are currently OS X Server, Time Capsule devices, and the most recent generation of AirPort Extreme devices with attached disks.  Not Windows Server boxes, Linux or other gear.
More than a few folks and a few discussions and various hackery have allowed random devices to appear to work (and it's possible your NAS device has seen this same hackery), but whether those configurations will continue to work or will react appropriately during the inevitable network and device glitches is very far from certain.  Among these sequences, whole-disk installs and related system restorations are key, but are also something that doesn't necessarily get thoroughly tested.
A Mac Mini running OS X Server can host a fair amount of connected storage, if you decide to replace or supplement your NAS.
For more information on Time Machine, start reading here.
It is possible to roll your own backups and to use third-party tools to perform the backups onto remote devices, and one of the more common recommendations here are based on a command line tool known as rsync.  Copy your files over, and either acquire or custom-create your own archival processing.  (If you're interested, search for previous discussions of rsync and backups for some of the available options, and there are tools and scripts available.  rsync is pretty ugly to get going initially — it's arcane — but it works pretty well, and various folks have already figured out the syntax and posted example scripts.)  Carbon Copy Cloner is an alternative to Time Machine, and there are others.
On the subject of creating your own custom software for these and related tasks, it's also possible to use software that targets photo studios and their related processing, and that manages the photos and videos and other assets, and that can manage backups and related processing, and various of these will deal with reprints and purchases and related.  That's a bit further along than a backup device or a Time Machine backup, but it's something that might replace the requirements.  (You probably don't care nearly as much about OS X and most other stuff here as that can be re-downloaded or reinstalled, it's your photos and your customer data that are key here, and that are not replaceable.  That stuff is the core target for your backups.)

  • Are there any diagnostic software programs?

I think my fan is broken. My battery is buckling. Thx for your help.

Take your machine in for service immediately. You don't need any diagnostic software to know there's a problem if your battery is buckling.

  • I bought a new imac running Loin and Office 2011. The server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software.

I bought a new imac running Loin with Office 2011. I am the only mac in the office and the Server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software other than webmail access through our website. It looks as though 2011 is not compatible with 2003 per some searches online, but what are some options I have to gain full access again? I purchased parallels in hopes that this my help and I am able to use remote desktop connection to log on to server but can not drag and drop files I need. There is a shared drive on that Server we all use to exchange files.
The two main issues are gaining access to my email again and ability to drag and drop files from mac to pc. I hope this is enough info to get some solutions.
PS - IT person says my iMac's IP is what his server does not understand so that is why I can not login.

Office 2011 is not compatbile with Exchange 2003.
I suggest you post further Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac software:

  • Do i need a network card to install and run a local java web server

    Friends,
Do i need a network card in my computer to install and run a local Java Web Server or any Web Server.

network cards are only for connecting equipment together... you can set up a webserver without any more equipment than you have already! Indeed Tomcat... BUT you would be better off with apache for production stuff. It depends what you need to serve... if its mainly static pages (i guess it probably isn't) then apache will be enough by itself; but if you need to serve dynamic pages (JSP, Servlet blah blah) then you will need tomcat. Tomcat has it's own webserver and its perfectly ok for testing or low-load stuff, but you can integrate with Apache (a moderately compex task, but do-able, see tomcat-user forum off of apache site) for greater stability, and you don't have to show the port in the URL... Don't set up a webserver on any pc that contains stuff you don't want hacked into... it becomes very succeptible when the service is up...
