Cfdocument pdf rendering problem

When you create a PDF using cfdocument, the <I>
</I> tag and <B> </B> tag renders incorrectly
sometimes. When it's at the edge of the table, the text inside the
tags is repeated twice. And sometimes, it truncates the space or
spaces before the tag. Or it would overlap the tagged text over the
text before the tag. Has anyone encountered any of these
problems?

We are having a similar issue. Importing a perfectly justified word document as an OLE Object in Crystal.  The document seems perfect in the viewer but when exported to PDF, the text seems to overlap each other and there are huge spaces between words.  Using Crystal 11 release 2 (version 11.5.8.826).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Preview pdf rendering problem

    When I open pdf files in Preview they open with the graphics/text completely corrupted. If I resize it to a small size it looks fine (but is too small to read). I have opened the same files in Acrobat and they look fine. I can also open them on another computer with Preview and they look fine.
    I tried closing Preview and deleting this file and restarting preview and it doesn't help
    homedirectory/library/preferences/com.apple.preview.plist
    I fixed disk permissions and rebooted and it didn't help.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Possibly a font issue. Launch Font Book, select all fonts, validate them, and resolve duplicates. Restart and Preview again.

  • Catastrophic Rendering Problem with PDF's on iMac, iPad, iPhone and iBooks

    Hi,
    i would like to hear from anybody who has had the same experience.
    A customer sent me an order per email with an attached PDF order. We use apple mail for all incoming emails on an iMac.
    Both in apple mail when viewing the attachment (no need to open it) and in the previewer using quick look and also having saved the attachment and opened it directly with previewer all seemed OK.
    We delivered the product as requested but received a complaint because the client claimed that we had overlooked certain details in the order. This caused a considerable amount of disagreement because both parties felt they were right.
    To make sure the documentation was complete we saved the attachment on our vmware- windows XP machine in our client data folders. We later opened the attachment on the windows machine which uses adobe reader and not apple previewer.
    Lo and behold - all the details which the client said were contained were now visible.
    Further investigation showed that any data which the client had printed/generated in bold font were not being displayed on the mac.
    Unbelievable, so we forwarded the mail to a sevaral colleagues for double checking.
    They all confirmed our findings. Apple mail and previewer do not display the same data as when using adobe reader.
    Even worse: neither do the email displayer on ipad or iphone conform to what is displayed by the original. Even saving the docoment to iBooks does not help.
    Our only guess is that the client who sent the PDF is probably using a non-adobe pdf creator which happens to work if you use adobe reader to display it but probably does not conform to the spec which others, such as apple, use when displaying. Maybe abobe reader is just more error tolerant.
    I have sent feedback to apple but hardly think they will crash update all their products.
    As it happened this caused an argument about a few euros. I hate to think what it could cause though.

    While not common, what you describe is no unusual either. I can tell you that the person who created the PDF almost certainly used Adobe's products. It is Adobe that is not compatible with all of the other PDF implementations. I encourage you to submit a bug report to Apple and include a copy of the PDF. There was a "bug" in Apple's PDF rendering software in version 10.6.7 for which Apple released a fix fairly quickly. I say "bug" in quotes because the PDF was perfectly valid according to all published standards. All PDF viewing programs on either Mac or Windows could read the PDF - except Adobe.
    Ultimately, PDF is a print technology and will fall by the technology wayside pretty soon.

  • Rendering Problem when printing to PDF using PDFCreator.

    When I print my report to PDF using PDF Creator it overlays the text over itself vs when i export to pdf and then print it prints it fine, can anyone enlighten me as to why it does this?

    Hi Raudel,
    According to your description, you can export the report to PDF and print it well. However, when you print the report directly to PDF with PDF Creator, fields are overlapping.
    Since you mentioned the report can display correctly after you export the report to PDF then print it, we can make sure the PDF rendering can work fine with reporting services. So it should not be the issue in Reporting Services. As we tested in our environment,
    when print the report directly to PDF with PDF Creator, report also display well. In your scenario, it supposed to be issue with PDF Creator. I suggest you contact the PDF Creator vendor to get some more effective advices.
    If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • PDF-Rendering is very slow

    Hi,
    on our local test-environment with CF 8.01 we have no problem to create a pdf with cfdocument-tag.
    <cfdocument format="pdf"
                    encryption = "128-bit"
                    permissions="AllowCopy,AllowPrinting"
                    unit="cm"
                    scale="100"
                    backgroundVisible="yes"
                    marginleft="1"
                    marginright="1"
                    filename="#url.pk_id#.pdf"
                    pageType="A4">
              <cfdocumentitem type="header">
              ... content of the pdf
    </cfdocument>
    but our productive-server (the same CF-version as the local testserver) is working very slow, and when I say slow I mean minutes not a view seconds more.
    I have no idea where this discrepance is comming from, especially as we could observe the pdf-rendering on fusion-reactor witch makes it rather improbable that - as we first thought - our firewall is slowing down the process.
    does anyone out there has an idea where the problem could be located or had someone in this forum experienced a simular pdf-pitfall?
    thanks for yout efforts.

    Hi Guys I work with a lot of pdf files with being a student at uni and not sure these tips might help.
    Try an app called skim which is free it handles pdfs nicely and looks similar to the preview app.
    Also if a pdf is slow to scroll try selecting all the pages goto file print.  Then on the bottom left hand side of the print window select pdf and then save as pdf.  I have found on some pdfs (usually the ones in black and white and look like a photo copy) using the the print save as pdf option has then allowed me to view a pdf fine in the preview app without any issues.  Hope this is useful.
    I suspect its to do with pixels per inch or dots per inch of the document.

  • Rendering problem in output of Pages 5.1

    Has anyone else seen a print rendering problem when trying to print a table in Pages 5.1?
    All my text in tables is jagged and lower-resolution than other text:
    (Printed from Pages 5.1 (1769) on a HP Color LaserJet CP2025 from a retina MacBook Pro original model running Mavericks 10.9.1.)
    To see the problem, you must look at the full size image. Right-click to open it in a new tab.
    The type is set to Helvetica 12 pt black.
    The borders are set to 0.5 pt black. The top two lines have a border on all sides.
    The top line's border is nearly invisible; on the full size image you should see a faint blueish line.
    The middle line's box box is supposed to be&#8232; a full box, but it is missing two sides. But at least this hairline renders properly.
    The pdf of the same file looks fine on screen, even at high magnification. The problem only shows up in print.
    The same problem exists in Numbers (where I first experienced it):
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24695801#24695801

    I see you followed Jerry's advice to post over here, and haven't got any responces, so I'll at least try to get a little more information into the discussion.
    Since the document prints to pdf correctly, but not to the actual printer, it seems likely that it is a print driver issue. In the Numbers discussion on the issue, the original person with the issue was using a HP printer with a postscript driver. Since the HP support site was not very clear about whether a driver for that printer on Mavericks even existed, and the recommendation for a generic driver was for a PCL driver, not postscript, I suspect that they were not using a recommended configuration. It would probably be helpful to know the details about your printer and print driver.
    Do you have access to more than one printer to test this on?
    The new versions of Numbers and Pages are doing something strange in terms of how they copy tables to the system clipboard; the pdf version is no longer available, only bitmap images. Print to pdf, however seems to still get the pdf data. I don't think this should have anything to do with the data getting to the print driver, but it does seem consistent with your results.

  • Since numbers 3.1 rendering problem in output

    Since I upgraded to Numbers 3.1 all printed output is no more crispy, it looks like a rendering problem. My Number documents consist of normal text elements and tables, sometimes some charts. Scaling on printout is not activated. On the Mac display the problem does not exist, everything seems to be fine, also in large zoom factors. But printing the document produces some kind of unrendered, pixely output, comparable to a screenshot, by far not that crisp as in Numbers 3.0.1. Other applications such as Pages, Word, Excel are not affected, printouts are fine.
    What I did so far:
    - uninstall and reinstall numbers
    - changing, reinstalling the printer driver (HP Color LaserJet 2025 Series), I use the Postscript driver
    - converting the Number documents to Numbers '09 and opening them again
    - playing and testing with numerous zoom factors
    - changing fonts in the Numbers document
    ... all without any success.
    What helped me was:
    - Installing Numbers 3.0.1 again using TimeMachine, installed it parallel to Numbers 3.1
    - In Numbers 3.1 exporting the Numbers document to Numbers '09
    - Opening that document in Numbers 3.0.1
    - Printing the document in Numbers 3.0.1 --> Output ist fine and perfect.
    It seems to be a rendering problem, only in Numbers 3.0.1. The problem appears in all existing and new Numbers documents on Numbers 3.1.
    Here is my infrastructure:
    MacBook Air Mid 2013, OS X Mavericks 10.9.1
    Numbers 3.1 (1769)
    HP Color LaserJet CP2025dn using PostScript
    Many thanks for your help!
    speckch

    Perhaps you can see the problem in this version. This is a PRINTING problem. You cannot see it on screen in the pdf.
    This is a single Numbers document, printed directly from Numbers (3.1). The font is identical in both lines. The box color is identical (black) and the width of the line is identical (0.5 pt). It was printed on an HP Color LaserJet CP2025.
    The upper text is jagged. It may look fine on your screen, but it's not.
    This is very obvious if you look at the larger image that is linked to the image above. (Remember, a computer screen is only 72 dpi and this image is optimized for that. Printed text is much higher resolution. So, to get an accurate view on your screen of how jagged the text is when printed, you need to look at it magnified. Right-click on the image above to open the image in a new tab, and you should get the full size.)
    Also, the because the upper image is lower resolution (jaggies), the narrow line cannot print accurately. Thus, it appears blueish. When you look at the full-size image, you can see how jagged the line is and the mix of dots (red and blue, predominantly) that was output by the printer. In contrast, the lower text box is smooth and black.
    I don't know where the problem lies, but I have not experienced anything like this on any other program I currently use. It's a postscript printer, and I suspect that something's gone wrong in the postscript output associated with tables and the printer is printing the screen view, not the higher resolution printer data. But that's just a guess. And as far as I know, it's not something anyone other than Apple can fix.
    And, of course, since you can't see this problem on screen in the pdf, no matter how much you "zoom" in, you won't know if your files will print badly until you test it. Or, worse, your client does.
    Bummer.

  • PDF Rendering in EP6

    Hello,
    I am integrating XMLMILL (www.xmlmill.com) into EP6 to provide PDF rendering on the fly from xml+xsl data.
    I finally got it working and I am now able to render impressive PDF files but seems xmlmill is not fully compatible with EP6 from different perpectives: xml-xstl parsers/transformes, logging subsystem and class loading (retrieval of resources) as well as compatibility with PAR deployment process.
    Is there anybody else that has tried this tool or a similar one into EP6?
    Would like to share your experiences.
    Thanks in advanve & Regards
    Vitaliano Trecca

    Yes we also use a tool to transform XML into PDF from Apche (FOP project) and we have the same problems as you (incompatibility between Apache libraries and EP6 libraries). In EP5 it worked fine since the inqmy libraries were not automatically loaded at runtime !
    SAP people from the development are actually working on this problem. I'll keep you informed if they found a workaround for this.

  • PDF display problem in 10.6.7

    Having problems displaying .pdf files after updating 10.6.7 with the recent font update.
    The issue occurs on both my MacPro and Macbook pro, which were updated recently.
    Opening most but not all .pdf files causes the viewer app to crash. This happens with preview, safari, papers and with the finder.
    Same files can be opened successfully with Adobe reader which suggests problems with underlying pdf rendering technology.
    Anybody else seeing this?
    Any solutions?

    Hi Linc
    Thanks again for the replies and for your time looking at this issue.
    Sorry about the bad file link. I think this one will work:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2391464/p0950-p0982.pdf
    I have since tried this file on a Macbook running 10.5.8 and it crashes Preview and Finder on that machine too. So I was mistaken in thinking that the issue is recent.
    I also note that affected files all have a generic pdf icon.
    It opens fine in Adobe Reader  on the MacPro and in GoodReader on my iPad.
    If it was just this file, I would not worry but I have this problem with 100's of pdf's from on-line academic journals.

  • Office Web Application PDF rendering poor quality

    Hi
    We have a customer using SharePoint 2013 and Office Web Application to provide PDF and WORD documents to partners. Now we ran into the problem, that all PDF are rendered in such a poor quality, that it is hard to read the PDF document, because it
    is so blured. DOCX documents are also compressed, but readable. If the user downloads the PDF file, the Quality of the PDF is good.
    That is how it looks in Office web application:
    This is the same file downloaded and opened with the pdf client:
    Is there any solution for this problem? Does Microsoft planned any update on this?
    Thanks
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
    Are you using a monitor with high resolution?
    Per the following information, if you are using a monitor with high resolution, the pdf rendered by OWA from browser will look blurry, as a workaround you can open PDF file using PDF client software currently.
    "The Word Viewer in the WACs converts documents (including PDFs) to PNG images at 96 DPI which is likely why the users are seeing blurry text if they are viewing documents on a high DPI device/monitor (>200 DPI)."

  • Preview PDF Rendering

    When viewing PDFs (created from InDesign) in Preview (or Quicklook), oftentimes they don't render as they should if transparencies or other blending modes are used.
    Any clues how to fix this (if possible)? Or MUST I always use Acrobat to view PDFs (which takes longer to open).
    Thanks.
    -Aaron

    I have the same problem when saving Illustrator files as PDF.
    The PDF renderer in Snow Leopard has trouble with the way Adobe compresses bitmaps inside the PDF. Leopard works fine on the same files, and Acrobat of course.
    A solution is -- in the Adobe PDF settings dialog -- to compress the contained bitmaps using ZIP and not JPEG.
    This is an annoying bug, which Apple and Adobe should resolve quickly.

  • XRPM missing ivew and rendering problem

    Hi, guys:
    I am working with a RKT 2008 system and facing some XRPM issues. Would any of you be so kind to give me some comments or hints if you got?
    Iview 'task' is missing.
    Rendering problem happens whereever a chart or graphic is supposed to be created.
    Thanks very much in advance and kind regards,
    Robert

  • More PDF Printing Problems

    There are lots of notes in this forum crying about PDF printing problems. For what it's worth, I'd like to add mine.
    I'm using Jakarta FOP to generate a PDF on the fly from XML data. The PDFs it's producing are read and displayed nicely by Adobe Acrobat and print from Acrobat without a problem.
    I've also written a simple desktop app that exercises the java.print package. (I won't bore anybody with a listing.) It uses the PrintServiceLookup to discover the two networked printers I have attached to my machine, using DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.AUTOSENSE. I have it discover all the supported document flavors. Here's the result:
    application/octet-stream
    application/x-java-jvm-local-objectref
    image/gif
    image/jpeg
    image/png
    I can sent text documents to the printer without a problem. But when I try to send a PDF generated by FOP that renders and prints fine from Acrobat, I get gibberish text out. I'm using DocFlavor.INPUT_STREAM.AUTOSENSE as my DocFlavor when I create the doc.
    I don't see application/pdf on my list of supported document flavors. Should I? If that's a requirement, what do I have to do to the printer to get it on the list? Why is Adobe Acrobat smart enough to print to a printer wo/ this flavor and javax.print not? TIA - MOD

    Now I get it - I can't send PDFs from Java to a printer. A careful reading of forum threads and John Zukowski's note have driven a stake into the heart of the vampire.
    I can bring them up just fine by creating the PDF using FOP and then sending the page back to the browser for rendering. If my client could just print the document from his machine, all would be well.
    However, my app has a situation where some label printers will ONLY be attached to the server. They won't be visible from the client. I thought I had a solution with javax.print, but now that hope's gone.
    The printers I have aren't Postscript, so suggestions to ask FOP to generate Postcript won't help me.
    Adobe's site didn't offer any relief.
    I haven't been able to find any for-fee or open source packages that might help. Plenty of stuff out there to convert to PDF, but nothing that helps to print it once you have it.
    Is there any point in entering this as a bug in the database? It's less bug and more vaporware. After all, the docs never SAID they'd thrown an invalid flavor exception if you tried to print a PDF.
    Sun, are you listening? - MOD

  • Spry Menu Bar 2.0 (1.0) - Handling of widget generated CSS, placement and rendering problems in CSS

    Hello:
    I wanted to repost my question to re-frame the issue based on what I have learned thus far.
    I am working on a website that has been developed using the Spry Menu Bar Framework UI (2.0) I.0, that has some peculiar rendering problems that affect IE 6 in particular.  The CSS is reprinted below.
    In particular, when I post the widget generated CSS in the head as it is orginally situated by the framework, the menu bar works fine.  However, it seemed to me that I should be able to reduce page weight (an important consideration considering my target population) by placing it in the general style sheet governing the entire site.
    When I place the styles at the beginning of the style sheet the menu doesn't render at all in any of the browsers (IE 6+, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Netscape, etc.) as it conflicts with the general rules governing links that appear later in the style sheet.  When I place the styles specific to the Menu bar at the end of the style sheet, then the menu bar renders properly in all browsers except IE 6.
    The odd thing is that the only way to ensure that the menu bar works in IE 6 is to keep the menu related styles in the head of each page.  This raises problems related to page weight (not an insurmountable consideration if no other solution can be found) but still an issue.  Likewise I need to support IE 6, again given the target audience/population.  The issue obviously has something to do with specificity, but I am not certain that is the only consideration at work here.  I have not tried the !important selector in regard to the menu, as IE 6 seems to only partially support this.
    Thanks in advance for any advice or insight that can be provided.  Thanks in particular to Martin for his contributions to my earlier question related to this issue.
    Steve Webster.
    The CSS governing the horizontal menu bar is as follows:  (currently the following CSS is embedded in the head of the web page)
    <style type="text/css">
    /*  -- Begins Spry Menu Widget 2.0 (1.0) Horizontal menu bar Custom styles --  */
    /* BeginOAWidget_Instance_2141544: #MenuBar */
    /* Settable values for skinning a Basic menu via presets. If presets are not sufficient, most skinning should be done in
       these rules, with the exception of the images used for down or rightpointing arrows, which are in the file SpryMenuBasic.css
         These assume the following widget classes for menu layout (set in a preset)
       .MenuBar - Applies to all menubars - default is horizontal bar, allsubmenus are vertical - 2nd level subs and beyond are pull-right.
        .MenuBarVertical - vertical main bar; all submenus are pull-right.
       You can also pass in extra classnames to set your desired top levelmenu bar layout. Normally, these are set by using a preset.
        They only apply to horizontal menu bars:
            MenuBarLeftShrink - The menu bar will be horizontally 'shrinkwrapped' to be just large enough to hold its items, and left aligned
            MenuBarRightShrink - Just like MenuBarLeftShrink, but right aligned
            MenuBarFixedLeft - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedLeft', and left aligned.
            MenuBarFixedCentered -  - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedCentered',
                            and centered in its parent container.
            MenuBarFullwidth - Grows to fill its parent container width.
        In general, all rules specified in this file are prefixed by #MenuBar so they only apply to instances of the widget inserted along
       with the rules. This permits use of multiple MenuBarBasic widgets onthe same page with different layouts. Because of IE6 limitations,
        there are a few rules where this was not possible. Those rules are so noted in comments.
    #MenuBar  {
        background-color:transparent;
       font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; /* Specify fonts on onMenuBar and subMenu MenuItemContainer, so MenuItemContainer,
                                                    MenuItem, and MenuItemLabel
                                                    at a given level all use same definition for ems.
                                                    Note that this means the size is also inherited to child submenus,
                                                    so use caution in using relative sizes other than
                                                    100% on submenu fonts. */

    in this section. These have very low specificity, so be careful not to accidentally override them. */

    /* IE6 rules - you can delete these if you do not want to support IE6 */
    /* A note about multiple classes in IE6.
    * Some of the rules above use multiple class names on an element forselection, such as "hover" (MenuItemHover) and "has a subMenu"(MenuItemWithSubMenu),
    * giving the selector '.MenuItemWithSubMenu.MenuItemHover'.
    * Unfortunately IE6 does not support using mutiple classnames in aselector for an element. For a selector such as '.foo.bar.baz', IE6ignores
    * all but the final classname (here, '.baz'), and sets thespecificity accordingly, counting just one of those classs assignificant. To get around this
    * problem, we use the plugin in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js to generate compound classnames for IE6, such as 'MenuItemWithSubMenuHover'.
    * Since there are a lotof these needed, the plugin does not generate the extra classes formodern browsers, and we use the CSS2 style mutltiple class
    * syntax for that. Since IE6 both applies rules where
    * it should not, and gets the specificity wrong too, we have to order rules carefully, so the rule misapplied in IE6 can be overridden.
    * So, we put the multiple class rule first. IE6 will mistakenly apply this rule.  We follow this with the single-class rule that it would
    * mistakenly override, making sure the  misinterpreted IE6 specificity is the same as the single-class selector, so the latter wins.
    * We then create a copy of the multiple class rule, adding a '.SpryIsIE6' class as context, and making sure the specificity for
    * the selector is high enough to beat the single-class rule in the "both classes match" case. We place the IE6 rule at the end of the
    * css style block to make it easy to delete if you want to drop IE6 support.
    * If you decide you do not need IE6 support, you can get rid of these,as well as the inclusion of the SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.jsscript.
    * The 'SpryIsIE6' class is placed on the HTML element by the script in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js if the browser isInternet Explorer 6. This avoids the necessity of IE conditionalcomments for these rules.

    Hi Nancy:
    The specific code that I am referring to is the CSS code governing the styling of the spry menu widget that only works in IE 6 if, and only if, it remains in the head of the web page.  If removed and placed in a stylesheet, the IE plugins fail to compensate for the IE 6 "gap" bug.  As I said, it doesn't make sense to me that, assuming specificity is addressed, that these can not be included in an external style sheet.  I am looking for a) an explanation why they must remain embedded in the web page; and 2) any means by which I might be able to export them.
    I will reproduce the specific css style (code) below:  it should also be visable through reveal source --
    Thanks again, Steve Webster.
    The CSS governing the horizontal menu bar is as follows:  (currently the following CSS is embedded in the head of the web page)
    <style type="text/css">
    /*  -- Begins Spry Menu Widget 2.0 (1.0) Horizontal menu bar Custom styles --  */
    /* BeginOAWidget_Instance_2141544: #MenuBar */
    #MenuBar  {
        background-color:transparent;
       font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; /* Specify fonts on onMenuBar and subMenu MenuItemContainer, so MenuItemContainer,
                                                    MenuItem, and MenuItemLabel
                                                    at a given level all use same definition for ems.

    * Some of the rules above use multiple class names on an element forselection, such as "hover" (MenuItemHover) and "has a subMenu"(MenuItemWithSubMenu),
    * giving the selector '.MenuItemWithSubMenu.MenuItemHover'.
