Adding an additional site to an existing Server?
I am terribly newb to all this web stuff so please "cut me a
little slack" on this and correct me if my assumptions are wrong. I
have a CF MX 7 instance running on a Win2003, Web Ed. Server that
is hosting website 1. I would like to create and host website #2 on
the same box. It has two NICs and was thinking about associating
each site with one of the NICs. Given the fact that I have already
installed CF on the box and the site is on the NET, how do I go
about the CF end of hosting the 2nd site on this box? Do I simply
install CF a second time, on the same box, but to a different path?
I've read a bunch in the help files about EARs and WARs, multiple
server instances, clustering and all that good stuff, but honestly,
I'm as confused as ever. I swear that these help files and other
support documents just make me more confused. Not just Adobe, but
generally all of them. Secondly, can I do this retroactively, or
would I have needed to make the call when the first instance was
being configured. Thanks in advance for any guidance and/or
enlightenment. The simplest way to configure a 2nd site is to just create a
virtual website in IIS. Use host headers or whatever method you
like to direct you traffic to this site. You can run wsconfig.exe
to remove CFMX's connector to IIS and then just re-install
selecting all sites. Your single cfmx server will run both sites.
A CFMX multiserver installation can be used. You could create
a cfmx server instance for each website. That way, each site would
be fully independent of the other. Definitely, better but not
absolutely required.
The first option can be done with no re-installation work
needed except dealing with wsconfig to configure cfmx to your
websites. The second would require an uninstall and re-installation
of cfmx using the multiserver installation. You would then use the
first instance of cfmx/enterprise manager to create 2 new server
instances to run you websites. -
When i downloaded the ColdFusion Trial and set it for the
developers version it installs fine until the end. When its
supposed to automatically launch the configuration wizard it says
You have successfully completed the first step in installing
Macromedia ColdFusion MX 7.
However, the ColdFusion service did not install successfully,
and the web server and/or website could not be reached on port 80.
Possible reasons include the ColdFusion service failing to start,
blocked 2920 or 51011 ports, or the web server and/or website is
not running or is not configured to listen on port 80 (in which
case this is not an error).
Please complete the following steps to complete the
installation...
Now i know i probably should understand the steps but i
couldn't find half the things it asked for me to do and i am just
plain tired of spending time trying to figure out what it means and
how to fix it. Any help would be greeeaaaaatttly appreciated.
Thanks in advance and hope to hear from you soon.Intel Mac, or other?

Read the links, too. This is an old topic now and a pretty standard
installation procedure for installing CFMX on the newer unsupported
linux platforms. I have used it for Mandriva and others. -
I am reinstalling an upgrade copy of CFMX on a replacement
server. I've installed this version on several different Windows
2000 servers over the past few years. This is the first time I've
installed in on Windows 2003 Std Ed. I have selected IIS and am now
on the directory setup page. The "Install CFMX files to" selection
is set to c:\CFusionMX, which is correct. The problem comes with
the "Install Web Files to" selection. It is pointing to just a
plain backslash, "\". No disk drive and no directory. I would
expect it to be pointing at c:\Inetpub, since it knows I want to
use IIS. When I click the Change button, I get the following error
msg: "Error 1314. The specified path \ is unavailable". I'll buy
that, but I can't do anything about that because it crashes when I
try to do something about it. To top it off, it then takes me out
of the installation procedure with no way back. You have to go back
to the start of the installation and reenter the serial numbers,
etc.
Like I said, I've installed CF (3.1 to MX) probably a dozen
times on W2K servers over the past 6 or 7 years and never had a
problem like this before.
I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions, if anyone has one,
because i'd dead in the water at this point. Thanks in advance for
your hep.

P.S. I tried it 4 times and got the same result each time....
Does this meet the definiton of insanity yet???Thank you for your info. I gave up trying to install MX using
IIS on my 2003 server and installed it with the internal/standalone
web server. This went OK. My intent was to do a manul connect to
IIS as recommended in tech note 19575. In order to do this I needed
to have MX6.1 installed. I downloaded that updater but the
installation failed because it told me that it wouldn't run on this
system. At that point I gave up on MX. I have since downloaded CF8.
CF8 seems to run OK, except for an exception I'm getting
relating to WDDX. I haven't had time to sort that one out yet. The
one thing I don't like about CF8 is their error messages. MX had
very helpful error/crash messages that pointed you right to the
line of code that was causing the problem. CF8 doesn't do that.
This will be very unhelpful if there isn't some way to revert to
the MX style messages that point you to the actual error.
Thanks agin for your help. -
Installing CFMX in Parallels on Mac
Hi all,
We've recently acquired a new macbook that runs WinXP using
Parallels. My boss is wanting to install CFMX under Windows and has
tried both 7.02 and 6.1, while running IIS 5.1. According to him,
In both cases the installation has completed successfully, but when
creating test pages in Homesite and trying to view them, the pages
are "unavailable" as if the server isn't running.
Keeping in mind that all these services and apps (IIS,
Homesite, CFMX) are running under WinXP in Parallels, we're
wondering if there are any known issues involving CF and Parallels
itself. We've gone through the manual web server configuration
process and all that to no avail, and Parallels is the only other
culprit that I can think of.
If anyone has any insite, we'd be appreciative over here...
Thanks,
FleetI've been running CF on Parallels with no problem for roughly
9 months. I found it easier to install and run CF in the Windows
environment that I was used to rather than devote all the time and
energy needed to install CF on OS X. (Woodward's article is
excellent but the installation is still a pain in the butt.)
Was your boss able to start the CF Admin page? I know it
sounds like a stupid question but is the CF server running? (I
assume that simple html pages are rendering OK) As I recall, the
default installation does not cause the CF server to start
automatically. You have to start the service manually through the
Services window on the Control Panel (you can change it to start
automatically.) -

Installing CFMX 7.0.2 on Mac Intel
Hi,
Need help urgently!
I've installed the new CFMX 7.0.2 on my Intel Mac. When
installation in complete, it says: "You have successfully completed
the first step in installing Macromedia ColdFusion MX 7. However,
the coldfusion service does not appear to be running, the web
server connectors did not install successfully, and the web server
and/or website could not be reached on port 80..."
I chose the built-in web server during the installation.
What could be the problem? Is there a way to configure web
server connectors?
I also tried to install JRun4 and run CFMX7 on top, but was
unable to start the JRun Web Server and could not get the url
http://localhost:8000 running.

CFMX 7 Deployment - A license Exception has been thrown
Hi, There:
I met a weird problem. I have upgraded license CFMX 7.01
Standard from CF5. I developed an application on localhost pointing
to default cfusionMX7\wwwroot\myApp. It works fine by internal IP
address. But when I configured IIS and assigned public IP pointing
to this folder, it failed to load up the application and showed " A
License Exception has been thrown. You tried to access developer
edition from disallowed IP - my public IP address". What's wrog
with it? I reviewed my installation I have given the right upgrad
license key and old license key. CFMX administrator works fine and
local IP access works fine.
Is it a deployment issues so I should take look at web.xml?
Could you please help me out of this? Thanks in advance!

CFMX on Intel based Mac, MacBook Pro, iMac
As of yet, I still haven't been able to get this to work,
although other's have had success, and other's such as myself are
struggling with getting the JRun4 and getting it to use the correct
version of Java.
Anyway, maybe these links will help someone else, and
hopefully Macromedia/Adobe will come out with a version of CFMX
soon that will run natively on an Intel based Mac using it's own
server.
Maybe people can post below whether or not they have been
able to get this to work.

I'll post later everything I've tried and at what point the
installation has failed. For the most part, JRun4 is unable to
create the Java Virtual Machine, and when I've tried to run the
shell commands referenced, nothing happens, or when I try to change
the default Java config, it doesn't seem to do any good.
Guess I'll be waiting for the next release, which I hope will
run natively on this plateform. In the meantime I hope this helps
someone else get it going.

Hi All,
I downloaded and installed CF8 and I haven't been able to
connest my access database. I saw another post whereby the same
problem occured and someone stated that there was a problem with
the installer. Has this been correct? I also lost the connection to
my CFMX 6.0 standalone and have tried to no avail to recover from
that So right now I'm dead in the water as far as development is
concerned. Can anyone help?
Best,
JoyHi all,
There was no link to start the administrator in the cf8 file
so I typed it into the address line of windows IE and it came up. I
connected a test site with as Access db but I could not connect it
as Microsoft Access only as Microsoft Access with unicode because
it said I didn't have ODBC. The last time I installed it I did
install ODBC and documentation only. I don't understand why this
occured and what is unicode? How does that actually effect a
Microsoft Access DB and the files that connect to it? What should I
do next? Please help. Up the creek without a paddle and heading
toward the falls. Best, Joy -
just installed the CFMX 7.0 trial version but I think I
installed it in the wrong directory.
I had an existing version running perfect but downloaded 7 to
try it out.
I installed 7 in the same directory CFUSIONMX that I had my
working copy.
Now nothing works
I cant get my pages to run and 127.0.0.1:8500 produces an
error.
AND I cant uninstall or remove using control panel.
I'd like to try it out.
Is there anyway to configure the trial version or remove it
so I can get back to where I was.Installing CFMX7 over CFMX6 will certainly have killed your
cfmx6 installation. I would uninstall and delete the directory.
Reinstall cfmx6.x as it was before. If necessary there is a
technote on the support site that tells you how to manually
uninstall deleting directories and updating your registry.
If you choose the defaults when you install CFMX7, it will
co-exist with cfmx6.x. CFMX6 installs by default to c:\cfusionmx
and cfmx7 installs to c:\cfusionmx7. Also, cfmx7 will increment the
ports it uses to allow it to run with cfmx6.
Before you delete/uninstall confirm that you do not have a
cfusionmx7 directory. If it is there, perhaps you just clobbered
your connection to the webserver and CFIDE. You should install
cfmx7 to use its internal webserver so it can co-exist with
