Challenging network disruption problem

Hi folks,
In our network we have multiple Cat5500 with RSM running multiple vlans, connected to each other via Gigabit Ethernet. One of our RSM recently keeps on displaying this error message after rebooting:
Aug 2 16:33:25 GMT: %ALIGN-3-SPURIOUS: Spurious memory access made at 0x40A30B80 reading 0x78
Aug 2 16:33:25 GMT: %ALIGN-3-TRACE: -Traceback= 40A30B80 40A314F4 402B2450 402BE468 402BE628 40365CE8 403614C0 4035BA84

Initially we didnt think much of it, however the past week we had 3 severe disruptions on a particular vlan used by our servers. The symptoms are quite strange, without warning the servers/pcs in that particular vlan will stop being able to ping/see most of the other vlans. Furthermore, when we first do a ping to another vlan's pc/server, the first ping gets a reply, but subsequently gets timeout for good. I checked the routing, plus no ACLs. The funny thing is pings works for *some* vlans from that vlan, but not for others. The problem was only resolved by rebooting the entire switch. I need some ideas on how to troubleshoot. Anyone bold enough to venture a guess?
thanks

Are you running MLS?
If yes, see if problem is cleared by 'clear mls entry all' on the switch or 'clear arp' on the rsm. If this works, problem may be mls related.

My daughter has just bought me an iPad 2 from Dubai and set it all up for me but unfortunately the iMessage function doesn't seem to work. We keep getting messages, when trying to activate it, that there is a network connection problem - help!

Thank you both for your responses but my daughter was reassured by the salesman in the iStyle store (official Apple store in the UAE) that iMessages would work but conceded that FaceTime wouldn't. My iTunes account is registered in the uk and my daughter's iPhone has iMessages even though she bought it (and uses it) in Dubai. Can anyone else throw any light on this?

  • Network Accounting Problem

I have a serious network accouting problem arisen from content engine:
Our routers are connected to internal backbone router with enabling Netflow to bill the usage (from domestic to backbone) of each users.
However, the CE will affect the network accounting seriously because it will replace the sender IP address with its own address before sending out to the link.
Would you give me some solution to remedy the problem?
    Very Very Urgent!!
    Thanks a lot..

  • Network Extender problems w/Qwest customers during July 2011

I believe I have found the cause of the Network Extender problems surfacing in July, 2011. I am a customer who has been out of Network Extender usage for two weeks now. Read on....
Unbelievably, almost no one at Qwest, Verizonwireless, or Samsung (NE's manufacturer) has any idea what the cause is and neither Qwest nor Samsung knows that a problem exists at all.
After many hours on the phone to all three companies I finally believe I know the cause of the problem. The cause is an updated firmware revision that was pushed to all Qwest customers who use the Actiontec PK5000 modem/router. They have been pushing it out over the last few weeks, so the symptoms have been rolling rather than happening all at one time.
The latest version of the PK5000 firmware is QAP002-3.60.3.0.9.9 When the customer's modem receives that version update (unbeknownst to them), Network Extender is rendered inoperable... the modem does not recognize the NE is plugged into it and does not provide an IP address. The WAN light goes solid red, the GPS goes magenta and the SYS light goes red.
Because Qwest's PK5000 works fine with the upgrade (i.e. both wi-fi and ethernet connections work fine with my Macintosh MacBook Pro), they have no interest in solving my VerizonWireless problem.
Bottom line is VerizonWireless needs to get a patch created "yesterday" and made available to all Network Extender customers who use the Actiontec PK5000 Qwest modem/router immediately. I live in a rural area and despite the fact I've had a VerizonWireless cell phone for many, many years, I'll be forced into changing cell phone providers soon, as will every other NE user who has lost their NE usage because of this problem.
It boggles my mind that no one has figured this out and provided a patch for the Network Extender. Understandably, Qwest could care less this is happening, since their service is not effected. This is truly VerizonWireless' problem.
Now, what can you do??? Call customer service right now and get technical support. Give them the information above and let them know they need to develop a patch for the Network Extender to work with the new firmware (i.e. operating system) of the Actiontec PK5000 modem. It's only when they hear from a bunch of people that they will step up the urgency to find a solution. Thanks!

OK, what's the deal here. I've been having the same problems. Verizon gave me a new extender and I still have the same problem. The week of July 15th everything went dead. I live in downtown Denver and I still can't get service at my house. My network extender is no longer compatible with the PK5000 modem QWEST issued. Firmware got pushed out? uhh... OK that doesn't mean anything to me. Not my problem, but kudos to the gentlemen who figured that out.. Neither Verizon or qwest seem to not want to take responsibility.
So what's next? is there an extender on the market that is compatible with the infamous PK5000? Evidently, the guys @ Qwest I was on the phone with for 45 minutes seems to think it's some type of high speed low drag, technological phenomenon. I'd like to add that if someone from qwest or verizon tech support reads this, I do not have a land line at my house, I have never had a land line at my house so no I can't go to my desktop and troubleshoot the modem while on the phone. just to reinterate I live in downtown denver I do not have cell coverage at my house, and no it's not my house. Everyone in our area does not have coverage.
I've had verizon for over 10 years now and never had a problem. This is the first and biggest problem I had becasue verizon and qwest decided to "bundle" thier service offering...whatever that means.

  • T41 has Network Controller problem

I was given a T41 2373-7JU that I loaded with XP Pro. My problem is it will not  connect to the internet via it's browser. In Device Manager it shows a Network Controller problem and I've been unable to correct this no matter how many different drivers I've tried. Also, how do I tell if there's an internal  wireless card inside?  It did connect to the internet earlier today using my USB adaptor but now I can't even do that anymore. I've tried a dozen or so solutions without any success so where should I go from here?

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Following are the drivers you need for Ethernet and wifi card (and yes, as per support page there's an internal card installed in your system):-
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-62922
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-42683
To install the drivers successfully, you need to run the .exe setups from C:\Drivers.... for each device after the first setup completes.
For ethernet, the setup is in C:\DRIVERS\Win\ETHERNET\PRO1000\Win32 and for wifi C:\DRIVERS\WLLANCSC.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to Simulate Network Disruptions

I would like to simulate network disruptions in my application testing. For instance sudden socket termination when sending / receiving a file.
Any ideas or suggestions on how to develop this test scenario?

    Unplug the Ethernet cable...
Breaking routes may do it also: route add other-computer-ip-address this-computer-ip-address.
If you have a firewall between client and server, block the connection there in mid-transfer.
Kill the process at the other end of the transfer.
    Write some way to call socket.close() at either end of the communication. E.g. if you are writing a GUI application, put in a debugging menu that has an item "force close". Or: if (bytes_received > 10000) socket.close();

I could see this too when in System Preferences, Network, that it was constantly renewing the lease of DHCP on the Ethernet interface. (The server gets its IP via DHCP from the router). This has worked well for years. I was even unable to edit a manual setting, until I disconnected the ethernet cable, because trying to edit the manual ip address was interrupted by the system changing. I have now set up a manual entry and the system is a lot more workable. The router has never given these problems and it even does not now give these problems on the client machines. Somehow, I suspect the server itself to be the culprit in that it tries to renew the lease constantly itself (lease time is 1440 minutes).
After some researching, I may have found the cuplrit. My Network settings have a Wifi device which is unconnected to a network. That was no problem previously. but I see a lot of configd entries i nthe logs:

I have set the network setting to manual, this seems to stabilize matters. I'm now going to test what happens if I go back to DHCP, but without the unconfigured devices

Back to DHCP for 20 minutes now. No more transitions and the system is stable. DHCP was not so much the problem, its seems, but the unconfigured WiFi interface was.
Hmm, if OS X Server tries to be smart about signals like a network change (I can understand that Apple sees that as a good thing), I'd better have a stable network setup. So, apart from deleting all the unused interfaces, I'm sticking to a manual IP for my server. One source less of instability problems.

  • HP LaserJet - network printer problem FIXED

    Hi,
I'm aware this may not work for all, but I've sorted my own problems, which I suspect are common to many who still have a really solid HP (or other) network printer that was no longer available since Snow Leopard did away with Apple Talk.
The answer is to do a cold reset on your printer, give it a new IP address, find this IP by printing a configuration page and enter this IP when you go to set up a new printer. In my case, it automatically found the correct drivers. The drivers were never the issue with vanishing printers; it was all about the network IP address. A quick search online and you will find how to do the cold reset and config page. For my 2100TN, it was a case of holding down the cancel button when powering up the printer until the lights flashed for a new IP, and to print, press both buttons.
    Hope this helps.

    Problem solved.
I upgraded the printer's firmware which resolved the issue.
    Thanks anyway! :-)

  • Network Dropout Problems - Please Help

    Hi everyone,
I bought my lovely Z10 from Bell and am using it paired with the Bell (supposed to be) 4G LTE network.  However, despite the fact that I have a 4G LTE SIM, live in a prime 4G LTE reception area (smack in the middle of Metro Vancouver), and having spent several hours with Bell techs trying to get my phone to work with the 4G LTE network the best that I can get is H (not even H+ or 4G).  Nothing that they have tried or that I have tried works.  So far I have used two SIM cards, one LTE and one regular and both times the best I can get for service is H.  Please do keep in mind that my Bold 9900 which I still have gets H+ with full bars on the exact same spot where I get only H with 4 bars with the Z10.
Further to this, using the 4G LTE SIM if I toggle the mobile network off and then on, the phone will quickly establish a connection with H, then after about 30 seconds it will drop back down to h with 2 bars, then switch to 4G LTE for about 5-10 seconds and then drop the network entirely (no connection at all, emergency calls only), and then finally after about 30 seconds to a minute it will recover and settle on H only.
What the heck is going on here?  I am going to go to a Bell store today on the advice of Bell techs and get them to test my 4G LTE SIM in one of their phones to determine if it is my SIM or the device itself.
Can anyone share their experience?  Any problems being reported?  The best I could find on the net in this regard are the issues that a lot of iPhone 5 users were having but the causes and fixes are spotty.  Many remedied the problem by replacing their hardware pointing to a hardware issue instead of network issue.  Others continue to have issues to this day.  There are no reports that I can find on Z10s and extremely limited information on Android devices (only a few people reporting SGS3s with similar problems).
    Please help

    I have a similar problem with a Z10 and M1 provider.
I notice an erratic behaviour of the data connection. Often the data connection drop, move from H+ to G to nothing back to H.. If I try to browse the web it is incredibly slow and half of the time I get the error message it can't load the page.
I connected the Z10 to the laptop using the hotspot function. A simple ping to the M1 DNS or www.google.com shows 50% packets loss. Half of the time a DNS lookup return a time-out.
I found this on the web http://www.berryqa.com/vodafone-facing-issues-with-the-blackberry-z10-data/
It seems the same problem I am having.

  • Network connection problems, please help!

I have had an iPod Touch (4th generation) for over a year now and it worked fine. Today, something went wrong with my network connection. One moment it says that I'm connected to a network, and a few seconds later it says I'm not connected... Then a few seconds later it's connected again. I have full wifi bars, and it does it throughout my whole house. The wifi symbol keeps going on and off. I tried turning my Verizon Westell Model 6100G Modem off and back on because this normally fixes my wifi connection problems. This didn't work. Then I tried turning my iPod off and back on. This didn't work. I tried turning the wifi off and back on. This didn't work. I tried forgetting my network and signing back in. This didn't work. I also tried resetting the network, and this didn't work either. I'm not having any connection problems with my laptop, it's working fine. It's only my iPod. I'm still able to use the wifi, but for a split second, it will not work. I'm not sure what else to do. It's very annoying! I'm going to see if it does this at other peoples houses with their wifi. Can any one tell me what's wrong and how I should fix it? My only theory is a broken antenna...Please help! Thanks!

I have two things you could try.
    1. Plug your iPod into the host computer that which the network is based around because sometimes the network has trouble identifying a device if it has been a while since you plugged it into the computer.
    2. Find some way to get your network information (IP address, Subnet Mask, Router, DNS numbers) from another device on the network (e.g. laptop). Then go to Settings > Wi-FI and find your router and tap the blue arrow to the right of the name and tap the tab that says "Static" and enter this information accordingly. Then exit back to the network names menu and re-enter your passcode for your network (assuming you have a passcode)

  • Home wireless network printing problem

    Hello,
I have a Canon MP610 which I can use just fine connected directly to my Macbook (running Leopard). But I am trying to connect to it wirelessly through a D-Link DIR655 and Windows XP workstation (the Windows computer is connected to the LAN port and the Canon printer is connected to the computer via a USB connection).
I have Printer sharing checked under the Windows Printer Properties and I can “find’ the printer’s name wirelessly on my Macbook when I “add a printer” from the “Print & Fax” box, but I cannot find the driver. I have looked under the “Select a driver to use” option, and “Other” selection. I have installed the latest driver on the Macbook, but don’t know where it is for me to select when that window pops up for me to select one (“Print Using...”).
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Royce

I had the exact same problem with my Canon MP760 when i was using Tiger. The only solution i found was to use an Airport Express base station to connect the printer, then it worked flawlessly. Seems to an issue that some Canon USB printer are not networkable unless they are connected to an Apple product.
I hope you can find a solution other than having to buy another piece of hardware.

  • HP ENVY 4500 creates its own SSID on my WiFi network causing problems and confusion

I am finding this problem hard to articulate clearly and I can’t find any information on the internet about why my new HP Envy 4500 printer has set itself up with its own SSID on my WiFi network, but here goes :
I bought an HP Envy 4500 all in one printer for my daughter’s room in university, which has a WiFi network with WPA security. First I tried to add this printer to the room WiFi using the printer menu, but it gave an error stating that the WPA passkey format was incorrect, when in fact it was the correct password. So instead I had to install the printer using the installation options accessed from the HP website using her laptop.
This has worked, but it has also set the printer up with its own independent SSID called ‘HP-Setup-45-ENVY 4500 Series’. This separate SSID for the printer is causing some problems and does not seem to have any useful purpose. For example sometimes documents randomly will not print from the laptop, but if you then disconnect the laptop from the room SSID and reconnect it to the printer SSID, the documents will then print, but then you have to reconnect to the room's SSID when done. This is confusing and of course completely unwanted behaviour.
Does anyone know why this new SSID called ‘HP-Setup-45-ENVY 4500 Series’ has been set up for the printer please? Can I get rid of it so that printer is simply a device connected on the WiFi network in the room please?
I hope this makes sense as this a very frustrating issue for something that should be completely straightforward.
    Thanks.

Go into the printer settings and disable Wireless Direct. Done.
