Change a clips color on iMovie

Hello,
I am making a 3D clip on iMovie 10.0.6, and to do that I need to place a blue clip on top of a red clip.
I am able to change a clip to blue but I cannot put it in red. I have done some research and it tells me that I need to put advanced tools or something similar but it isn't on my version of iMovie.
So the big question is how do i put a clip in red?
Thank you for your help,
Adrien

It has been reported on the web that Apple has a problem with the calendar/colors, the same thing happened in August, if I recall correctly.  We can only wait for a fix.

  • Changing default background color in Imovie

How do I change the default mode of the background being black on the sides of a picture in portrait when using Imovie?

It's an excellent resource Karsten - you'll love it. Most people probably assume it's just for presentations, but it has plenty of other uses. I often prepare slides in Keynote for use in an iMovie (or iPhoto) slideshow. Otherwise, you can do the full slideshow in Keynote, using all the animations for titles and transitions between slides. That can also be imported (as a .mov file) to iMovie for further refinement and addition of other media. I use slides with a size of 1280 x 720 - this would suit your method of capturing 720p video for use in iMovie.
You can also add video clips to slides (as many as will fit on a slide). I posted information about this recently in the forum. The poster was wanting to place 2 video clips side-by-side on a black background, with each clip enclosed in a frame - very easily done in Keynote!
Have fun with Keynote (I do).

PS. Here's an example of what I just described. There is a video clip in each frame, but not playing of course:

  • Can you change the theme color in iMovie for example from its current color of blue to red?

Can you change the color of a theme in iMovie ?- example: the sports theme is set to be blue and I would like it red.

No. And that would be nice in your type of example.
I would recommend that you could TRY to use the "Map, Background & Animatics" earth icon> (next to transitions tool tab), scroll down> add RED background, and ADD Transitions inside some. That might help your example out.
    Hope this helps. Cheers

  • How do you change the background color not of the video clip, but the background the clip is on?

How do you change the background color upon which the clip resides...
I don't want to change anything within the clip itself, but the matte(?)
from black to white or cream.
I am working with Elements 10...

Create a color matte of the desired color and place it on video track 1.  Then place your video on track 2.
from here: Adobe Premiere Elements Help | Creating specialty clips
Create a colored matte for a background
You can create a clip consisting of a full‑frame matte of solid color, which you can use as a solid background for titles or animated clips.
Brightly colored mattes can serve as temporary backgrounds to help you see transparency more clearly while you adjust a key effect.
    Click Project Assets.
In the Project Assets panel, click New Item from the panel options and choose Color Matte.
Choose a color in the Adobe Color Picker dialog box, and click OK.
A color matte clip is placed into both the Project Assets panel and the Expert view timeline.

How to change the clip's duration under imovie 10.0.3?

This is a new feature introduced in 10.0.3 which works fine for me.  The old way was to select Modify - Fast Forward.  You can only select certain speed ratios but a slider should appear near the top of the clip which allows finer speed adjustment.  have you tried this?

  • I cant change a puppets color?

Hi, I was makeing my animation untill I noticed that my leg from my puppet was a different color than the body so when I tryed to change the leg color to the body color with the bucket tool it didnt let me. How do we fix this or change the color of the leg as seen in the pic to the same color as the body?
    Pic:
    Thanks in advance!
    p.s. I have flash CS6

Select the leg on the stage. If you can't select the leg on the stage, unlock the layer that it is in.
Look at the Properties window. Does the Properties window show the selection as a "shape" or a "movie clip"? If the leg is a shape object then you should be able to select the fill area, it will look dithered, and give it a new color using the fill color chip on the toolbar.
If the leg is movie clip symbol then you can double click on it to get to the shape that it contains, or, you can find the leg in the Library window and double click on that object to open it in the editor window. In either case, once you have selected the shape inside the movie clip, you should be able to change its color.

  • When I adjust the duration of a clip or transaction, iMovie automatically adjusts the duration of another clip; how can I shut this feature off?

In iMovie when I adjust the duration of a photo clip or transaction, iMovie automatically changes the duration of another clip; how can I shut this feature off?

Ok, well you won't get a "speed scale" indicator when editing a title clip. You can only adjust duration. Now, is there music attached to the title clip? Are you adjusting the TITLE TEXT box ONLY? Try adjusting the clip BELOW Title Text box 1st, then Title Text clip.  Is the Title attached to your own video OR is it one of iMovie's default Titles??

  • Change Document Background Color

    Hello.
I have a Movie Clip with 2 different labels, and different
buttons to go with each label.
An instance of the Movie Clip is on Scene 1.
When the second label's button is released, I want to change
    the Document's Background Color.
All buttons are symbols, with instance names.
I have looked everywhere, and cannot find a solution to this.
    Is it possible?
    Thank you.

I've done this by simple placing an object (colored square
clip) on the bottom most depth (just on top of the background
layer) of the .swf. Then I can either change the clip's alpha or
its visibility to show or hide it.
    myBackground_mc._visible=true; (or false)
    myBackground_mc._alpha=0; (or 100)
    ...always worked for me

  • Clip color bug in CS6 ?

I have been doing some work on an audio project we have.
Part of this work involves coloring clips in a certain group.
Anyway, I colored all the clips and checked it out. Everything was fine.
I saved it, closed down AA and went back in,  and... shock.... some of the clips had changed color!
    It looks like a bug!
I tested it out a few times and changed clip colors and changed them back, saved, exited, etc,   and... coming back in the clips had changed color.
Are you aware of this?  Does it do the same for you?

Its easy for me just to write the fx parameters down and insert them manually into cs6.  Luckily they're just one or two track effects.
With CS6, the colors seem to be much less vibrant than 3.0 etc...  So clip groups look less distinct.  I have to got though anyway and change some colors here and there.
The other strange issue I am having with cs6 is that of clip volume.....  but thats a separate post I made a few mins ago!

  • Changing a clip duration

I've read several items explaining that the KB effect is the reason that I can't change the duration of a photo clip. Several people have given "fixes" for that but none of them work. For instance, several said to double click on the clip and unclick the KB effect - it's not there in my version. Others said double clip and change the duration - same result (although I can change the clip title nothing else can be changed). So am I left reimporting all clips and turning off the KB effect? And by the way, how do you do that? The photos start rendering the moment I import them from iPhoto or a disk.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Firstly, assuming you have iMovie HD (5) - i.e. not the latest version which is iMovie 6, these tutorials could be useful:
    http://www.apple.com/support/imovie/tutorials/index.html
If you have iMovie 6, then look here instead:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/imovie/im2-1.html
And also you must use the iMovie Help Menu - it is very helpful!
The 'bar at the bottom of the program' into which you dragged the photos is the video track. It can be displayed in two ways, alternately displayed by clicking on the little buttons at the left just under the screen - one shows a miniature clockface (that option is the best for doing editing, but the other displays a simpler, larger version of your pics).
To change the duration of a clip depends on whether or not in the Photos Pane, the Ken Burns option is turned on or not.
If it was not on when the pics were imported, then the duration of single pics can be changed by double-clicking the photo, which opens an information pane including the duration - those numbers can be changed (the last two represent frames). To change the duration of a group of such pics, you select them all, and in the Photos Pane, adjust the slider the hit the Update button.
If the Ken Burns effect was ticked, then the only way the durations can be changed is in the Photos Pane.
The Photos Pane is the one in iMovie you were in when importing pics from iPhoto - selected by hitting the Photos button.
Note: if indeed you have the latest version of iMovie, then tell me, because the layout of and access to the Photos Pane is a little different.

  • Change secondary outline color?

i'm trying to recreate the Star Wars intro, and I've already got my text crawl going...that's not the problem.  I'm now trying to create the initial "STAR WARS" font that shows before the text crawl.  i've got the correct font and everything, but i'm having some trouble getting the inside of the text to be black, and the outline to be yellow.  so in essence, a transparent letter with a yellow border around it.  i'm messing with the outline feature in iMovie, but it doesn't give the option to change the outline color...it defaults to a black outline.
anyone know how i can change it?

    Hi,
I could get the logo on to the screen but the panel next to the logo where the buttons for the user to logout and the helo butoon appear thats the problem.
Not able to change the back ground color behind the buttons.

  • I want to change a clip in a saved project

Here is my actual question.  I am putting together a project and I wish to individualize it presentation to the specific people I am presenting to.  Therefore, 100% of the imovie will be the same.  Only 1 clip (where I mention the party I am presenting to) will be unique.   How can I either duplicate a project without having to recreate everything before I save it.   OR  how can I edit or change one clip is a project after I save it.
I simple terms I want to make 10 copies of the exact same thing with ONLY the first clip being unique and don't want to have to  redo the entire thing each time.

  • Problems pasting clips into another imovie

I am trying to paste a clip from one imovie project to another. I copy the clip from project A, open project B, and hit the paste command. I get the importing files box and the preparing message, but it takes forever and I am just trying to import a 6 second clip. If I force quit imovie, when I reopen it, it has placed a 9.24 GB file in the trash of the project B, called clip01_1. This is not what I copied or tried to paste. Why does it do this? What needs to be done to correct this situation? I have tried pasting with no clips in the timeline, several clips in the timeline, one clip in the timeline. I have successfully moved clips in the past, but I can't do it now!

    Thanks. Your description helps.
I converted and imported dozens of analog video tapes
into iMovie. They contain various events in a
disorganized manner, as I would leave the same tape
in and just keep recording different events, until it
was full. My goal was to open each imported "tape"
in iMovie, edit and sort out the clips, name them,
and place them in various folders on my desktop.
If the suggestions made in a moment don't work, please answer these questions to make sure I "get it"...
    1. Each imported analog tape arrived in one very long clip, right? And you want to split up that clip into several smaller clips, and keep just some of those clips?
    ---Keep and name accordingly, yes.
    2. Will you have gazillions of small clips in the project, or just a few? (If there are many, many clips you need some sort of automatic method for handling the clips. If there are only a few, a manual method will work.)
--Many clips. I will put this in caps just to emphasize my goal. It will be a common theme throughout. I JUST WANT TO SAVE INDIVIDUAL CLIPS TO A FOLDER ON MY DESKTOP.
    3. Are all the tapes in one iMovie project or did you import each tape to its own project?
--Each tape is in its own project. and there are numerous clips of my dog (as an example) spread over all the tapes. This is why I JUST WANT TO SAVE INDIVIDUAL CLIPS TO A FOLDER ON MY DESKTOP.
    4. Do you have QuickTime Pro? If not, are you willing to buy it? ($30 from Apple.)
---I would rather not add yet another layer of convoluted nonsense and expense to this situation, if I can help it. What will QTP do that QT 7.03 can't?
    5. Is it crucial that you end up with one file for each clip, or is a collection of topic-related clips sharing the same iMovie project sufficient?
---1 file for each clip is necessary. As an example, on 1 analog imported tape, I may have video of my dog, video of a friends BBQ and a fishing trip. Within each "theme" (BBQ, fishing trip etc..) , I may want to split up the video of my dog into various clips and name them accordingly. Such as "dog chasing ball", "dog swimming". The friends BBQ might have clips such as "friend puking", "friend stepping in puke", "friend putting cheese on burger" etc... On my Desktop I would have folders called "Dog", "BBQ", "Fishing" etc.. As I go through each project, I would extract and name all clips and either "share, export, massage, excise, resect, snip, cut, paste, incise, remove, chop, crop, trim etc..." or whatever magic word it takes to get that F^&%ing clip, AS NAMED, into a folder on the desktop that I choose. This, I was silly enough to think, could be done with a simple "Save As"/Desktop/<Folder> command. So, after wasting my money on iLife '05 which is supposed to "simplify my digital life", I now need to find some way to engage in a frustrating game of software masturbation, and possibly, additional cost, to accomplish this otherwise simple and benign task. How might I proceed?
Basically my destop folder structure should end up looking like this.
    DOG STUFF FOLDER
    dog running clip
    swimming
    dog chasing ball clip
    playing with frisbee
    in car
    playing guitar
    VACATIONS FOLDER
    FISHING
    big fish
    small fish
    stupid fish
    MEXICO
    drinking tequila
    drinking more tequila
    falling down
    getting up
    ....and so forth
Now, all I would have to do is import DOG STUFF FOLDER clips into a project called DOG PROJECT. Then, go to VACATIONS FOLDER and import FISHING and MEXICO into their own, or the same, iMovie projects, depending on space. Etc...
Here's the big problem: unlike digital video, analog video may not have a timecode. Without a timecode, iMovie can't separate it into clips when you import it to a project. As important here, you can't define the clips, export the project to the camera, then re-import it without losing the clip separations.
--Not my goal anyway to re-import anything to tape. I don't mind large 40 minute clips, as long as I can break them up as I see fit. And.. SAVE INDIVIDUAL CLIPS TO A FOLDER ON MY DESKTOP.
If it's okay to lose your clip separations, then that's an easy solution. Split the large clip into smaller ones, discard the clips you don't want to keep, export to the camera, then re-import to a new project. Discard the old project. The new project will contain only the video you want to keep.
---I could do the same with a VHS deck and my camcorder. So, what do I need iMovie for? Again, not my goal. I just want to SAVE INDIVIDUAL CLIPS TO A FOLDER ON MY DESKTOP.
Instead of exporting to the camera you could export to a Full Quality DV QuickTime movie that you either store on the hard disk or import to a new imovie project.
--This doesn't work well if I want to first parse all my clips from all my tapes that contain my dog in them and then import them all into a new project all at once. Or am I missing something?
There is a way to convert each (split) clip into its own Media file. When you apply a special effect to any clip iMovie creates a new file containing just the special-effected clip. If doesn't matter what the effect is. So, try this: Select a clip, activate the Effects tab, configure a Sharpen filter with the minimum sharpening, then Apply. Double-click on the sharpened clip and note it now has its own file. When you Copy and Paste that clip THAT's what gets copied, not its original source file.
---Ok..but I don't want effects on the clip. I just want to SAVE INDIVIDUAL CLIPS, AS IS, TO A FOLDER ON MY DESKTOP
You can apply a special effect to all the clips in the whole project at the same time. Drag all the original clips to the Clips pane. Option-drag each back to the timeline, which copies it (without duplicating its source file.) Split the timeline clip as you like. Discard the parts you don't want to keep. The timeline now contains all the clips you want to keep.
Select All the clips and apply the minimum Sharpen filter to all together. Wait. Rendering will take a while. Save. Now Copy and Paste the clips to whichever projects you want. A single file will arrive with each Pasted clip. Or you can drag them to Finder folders.
--Precisely.. This is another form of wasted time, effort and software masturbation that I was describing. I do not want to sit for hours while my clips render, just to accomplish something else that had nothing to do with applying effects to the clips in the first place. Once I have all the raw clips in a project, I plan on giving them to a professional video person to make a video. That's why, ALL I WANT TO DO IS SAVE INDIVIDUAL CLIPS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE FOLDERS ON THE DESKTOP.
Karl, I do appreciate your help and my tone has nothing to do with you. I'm just hoping you might be able to help me. I'm just steaming out of my ears that I gave up the PC world to use Macs precisely for the very reason of getting away from all this crap of doing a million stupid things to accomplish a goal. It's like scratching my right ear with my left foot. If I wanted to do that, I would stick with a PC!! At least, this way, I can be just as frustrated for a lot cheaper.
(Be sure to pretest this method to make sure the video you create with the special effect is okay. If a DVD is your goal, burn a DVD of the special-effected clips. You want to make sure the special effect doesn't change the appearance of the clip.)
    Karl
