Change a managed user to a local user

10.4.11 on client and server.
What is the least hassle, almost painless way to change a managed user into a local, unmanaged user?
Thanks,
b.

Yes. Go to System Preferences->Users & Groups->select his account, make it an admin one, log into it, and then repeat, deleting your account. Do note that to do this correctly, you should go through the steps outlined in What to do before selling or giving away your Mac - Apple Support. Also, it's illegal to pass on any OS X upgrade you installed via the App Store. Since it's tied to your AppleID, your grandson won't be able to do any updates, unless you foolishly give him your AppleID credentials—never recommended.

  • How do i change a managed user to an administrator on mavericks?

I thought that I had two users that were both administrators on a MBP.
But one of them is a "Managed" user and if I'm signed is as the administrator, I'm not able to change the "Managed" user to an "Administrator"
I don't see "Managed" as a type of user when creating users.
    I'm obviously, confused.
    Help appreciated....
    Jim P.

I looked into this a little more carefully.  It's not the Guest account.  It clearly indicates "Managed".
Searching for more information, this is something related to Parental Control, but I can't seem to get this account to take on the characteristics of either an administrator or user role.

  • Change Request Management users and their profiles

    Hello!
I would like know which users are useful for the usage of change request management functionality within SAP Solution Manager and which profiles should they have?
Users: Requester, Service Desk Empl., Change manager, Change advisory board(?), Developer, Tester, IT Operator, Administrator(?)
    Profiles: SAP_SOCM_REQUESTER, SAP_CM_DEVELOPER_COMP, SAP_CM_CHANGE_MANAGER_COMP, SAP_CM_TESTER_COMP, SAP_CM_PRODUCTIONMANAGER_COMP, SAP_CM_ADMINISTRATOR_COMP,

I get the errors (s. bellow), when I try to set correction in Development with development profile.
<b>- you are not authorized to perform the activity selected last
    - No maintenance cycle is open for the current system</b>
The solution for this problem is to log in with user who has "SAP_ALL" to recheck
    the correction.
    Thank you very much!

  • How do I change a managed user account to a non-managed account?

I had a Time Machine back up of a user account that was managed by an IT group at the last company I worked for. I am no longer employed by that company and I used Migration Assistant to import my Time Machine backed up user account to a new Mac. Now I have all sorts of issues with permissions (I can't open VLC because I can't run it as root, I can't run Steam, I can't open iTunes). I've already repaired permissions using Disk Utility and I restarted in Recovery mode and did the "resetpassword" command in Terminal and reset Home folder permissions. No luck. Any ideas?

  • Anyone has experience combining local users with managed user?

I thought this would be pretty common. We started with each user being a local admin user (12 mac systems in the office). We now got a snow leopard server and wanted to migrate everyone to a Open Directory user. We did hours and hours of research and found a few supported way to do this but having some problems....One way was to send out an invitation email from Server Preferences. When the user receives the email he can automatically convert current user into a managed user. However, the feature is suppose to synchronize password between these two users but it didn't for us, so now the user is left with a different password for the local account and OD account. What is going on? Any tips?
This is taken from a book that I am reading:
From a Mac OS X Server email invitation—If your network directory service is being hosted from a local Mac OS X Server that is being managed via Server Preferences, then you can bind it automatically from an email invitation sent by the server’s administrator. Clicking the “Automatically Configure My Mac” button in this email will open the Accounts preferences and bind your Mac to the Mac OS X Server and tie your local account to the server account. Again, this process will synchronize the account passwords and can automatically configure client services. Further, the invi- tation email can have clickable links to other services hosted from the server like file and web services.

I too was thinking about this, but punted after realizing it was too messy. My current solution is to make a local user called 'localadmin' and make this same user on every machine, give it admin privileges, etc. That way, if someone wants to install some software, they can fast-user-switch to localadmin, do the install, and then reset to their actual login. Once the logins are tied to an OD server and you become a 'managed' user, the individual can change their password locally and it will indeed update the OD master.

  • Problem about allow Managed User change Network setting.

I'm IT Support of school. We have over 200 MacBook with 10.4 and 10.5 OS.
Each student can loan MacBook from our school back to home use.
We have two local accounts on both 10.4 and 10.5.
One is admin user for IT Support use.
Another one is "Managed" student account with Parental Control.
The problem is we setup all MacBook connect with our school wireless but most student in home maybe have different broadband network setting....something maybe wireless, PPPoE, DHCP......etc.
We tested even in 10.4 or 10.5 "Managed" accounts also cannot change Network settting or "Locations Profile"....
Any idea can help me solve this problem?
    Thanks....

As the administrator you can set up multiple locations. Managed users can change their location under the Apple menu -> Location. An admin password is not needed to change the location. Is this not working for you?

  • How to change a network, managed user to admin user

Im current in a admin, network, managed user of this machine... i will be working from home in a couple of days, i was thinking if im in a network managed account i will not able to log in to my mac. is there a way for me to change it from a network managed user account to a locally admin account?

A network user is automatically converted to a mobile user on a portable Mac at the first login. On a desktop Mac, the conversion is optional. If the conversion is declined and the user opts not to be prompted again, the setting can be undone as follows:
    sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.MCX MobileAccountNeverAsk-username
(substituting the short user name for the string username.)

  • "The file [name of file] may have been changed by another user since you last saved it." Issue affects both network and local files.

When a certain user saves a file in Excel 2010, she gets a message: "The file <name of file> may have been changed by another user since you last saved it."  She can choose to save as another file or overwrite with her changes.
This just started happening a week or so ago.  She was concerned that someone else was accessing her files, but we did several tests that opened, made a change and saved in a matter of seconds, and she still gets the message.  It happens on
most files, but not all – both network and local.
We already tried the QFE_Saskatchewan registry fix.  I also checked the file server for Services for Macintosh.

You may be confused by the error in Excel saying “another user”. Actually Excel cannot tell who (the real human) is editing the file. Based on my research the No.1 possibility of the error is KB2626998.
2626998  Connection to a network document is lost in the 2007 Office system or in Office 2010 after the computer resumes from standby
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2626998
For Excel 2010, follow these steps:
    a.  Click Start , click Run , type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK .
    b.  Locate and then select the following registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel\Options
    c.  On the Edit menu, point to New , and then click Dword Value .
    d.  Type NetworkAvailableTimeInSeconds , and then press Enter.
    e.  Right-click NetworkAvailableTimeInSeconds , and then click Modify .
    f.  In the Value data box, click Decimal , type a number value, and then click OK .
Note This registry subkey sets the time, in seconds, that Excel waits for the network to resume. For example, if you type 15 for the number value, Excel waits 15 seconds for the network to resume. You might have to do some tests in your own environment to
determine an appropriate value. You may have to try multiple numbers.
    g.  Locate and then select the following registry subkey.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\office\14.0\common\Internet
    h.  Repeat step 2C through step 2F again. Reuse the same value that you used previously.
    i.  Exit Registry Editor.
Feel free to post back. Thanks.

  • Can external users change their language, time zone, and locale settings?

    Hi,
We’re migrating our hosts from WebEx cloud to our on-prem solution right now (CWMS 1.5.1.323.A).
We’ve learned that CWMS 1.5 does not provide an online address book where hosts could customize language, time zone, and locale settings for their external attendees.
Do external users have any chance at all to change their language, time zone and locale settings individually?
    Thank you,
    Helge

    Hi Dejan,
"external users" are those participants, who do not have an LDAP account in our deployment, since they are not intendet to act as hosts: our stakeholders, partners, customers, clients.
It looks, as if these people would stick to the systems' default language / time zone / locale.
We are wondering if there might be a CWMS-component like this:
    https://artcom.webex.com/cmp0307l/webcomponents/widget/preference.do?serviceType=MC&siteurl=artcom&target=Page&backUrl=%2Fmw0307l%2Fmywebex%2Fdefault.do%3Fsiteurl%3Dartcom%26service%3D1
to allow those "extenal" participants to make their adjustments.
    Thank you,
    Helge

  • Changing the "Change Manager" User Id on a "Correction"

    Good Day;
It seems that the user id we have been using for the Change Manager is a valid user id in our production system.
I am able to change the user id on the Change request, but unable to change it on the correction.
Does anyone have any thoughts on how I might be able to change the "Change Manager" user id on a "Correction"
    Regards
    Don Newton

    hi,
The change manager has a specific role predefined by sap.
If SAP copies from the request into the correction and changes are not possible in the correction it makes sense but if for specific internal reason you want to be able to change it you can do it via the customizing
please follow the following path down in transaction spro
    solution manager
    configuration
    scenario specific settings
    change management
    changerequest management
    extended configuration
    change transaction
    transaction types
    Partner schema
partner determination procedure ==> select the procedure for the correction (SDHFxxxx or Z if you customize it)
Partner function in procedure ==> select the partner function you want to change
    click on the change button
you can now change the flag "changeable" of the selected partner function
    I hope it helps

  • Managed users with Active Directory?

    Hi guys
I was wondering if any of you can help me out. I'm looking to get a OS X Server 10.4 to act as a managed user server, with all the pros of Open Directory (ie Finder restrictions etc) and user home directories on the Xserve's HD, but to authenticate through a Windows 2003 Active Directory Server.
I have been reading a number of sites and there seams to be two ways to do it.
    1) Bind the Xserve and the client Macs to the Active Directory and then on the PC server specify the home folders as a share point on the Xserve. Ie \\Xserve\Users\Tom
This way the Xserve is basically a file server.
    2) And I'm cutting this story short because I've only briefly read this one. But you can set the Xserve as an Open Directory master, some how import the users and then remove the directory master roll.
I really need to be able to have the usernames and passwords live from the Windows Server due to passwords being changed every 30 days blah blah blah so I guess point 2 is out of the question.
To be honest a yay or nay to the above would be a good start, could obviously save a lot of wasted time, but if anyone can recommend me a website or a pdf that will walk me through it.
I've managed to get my laptop to authenticate to AD but cant get the home directories to work. Every time I log in with a user account it creates it locally on my HD. I do not have "Force local home directory" checked. I guess I need to configure LDAP to the AD server as well? I gave it a go an managed to get Address Book pulling users and emails from the AD sever. I then preformed a lookupd lookup on a user bob and found that the home directory was set to /Users/bob even though on my AD server I've set it to \\Xserve\Users\bob is this something I'm doing wrong with LDAP? If thats all it is I'll be able to get point 1 above working and it will all be good.
I hope I've made this clear enough for someone to be able to help me.
Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to give me.

    1.25GHz PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

With an OD master you could manage your clients at the group and computer list level.
So when you setup the user's profile in AD, you mapped a network drive and provided the UNC path \\Xserver\Users\bob. You did bind the OD Master with the name Xserve? Also, by default it will use smb to connect, which you can change to afp instead in the AD plugin. smb will not create the home folder for you. You could try to create the home folder yourself in advance. (sudo createhomedir -a may do the trick)
For troubleshooting purposes, you could create a share on the AD server and adjust the user's profile to point to it instead of the OD Master. Try and login and see what you get.

  • Manage user certificates with UE-V?

Is it possible to manage user certificates with UE-V?  I wish to store/manage Personal Certificates with UE-V but can't seem to find information about how to achieve this.  Are Roaming Profiles still needed to have user certificates follow users
or can this be hacked into UE-V.  I tried to create a template which handles the HKCU and User AppData paths which store Certificates but have not been able to get this to work.
    Windows 7/Windows 8 Server 2008R2/Server2012
    Any insight would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mark Ringo

    Hi Mark
Certificates are currently not supported with UE-V 1.0 / 1.0 SP1. Just saving HKCU keys and the RSA / System Certificate files in APPDATA does not work any more since Windows Vista. You have to use a logon / logoff script which does the trick via Microsoft
    CryptoAPI (Export / Import).
I have included exampled with Powershell below.
