Change After Effects Default Settings?

Hello Smarties!
My output settings from the render que are generally very similar...and completely different from the default settings.  Is there a way to CHANGE the default setting permanently?
More detail is avaialble if you need it.

You can create a render settings template and set it as the default and create an output module settings template and set it as the default.

  • FCP 7 won't let me save changes to effect default settings

Hey all - using FCP 7,0,3 and it will let me make a change to an individual effects default settings, but it won't let me save a new default - i.e.; I'm trying to change the length of disolves because I don't want full 1 second transitions, ever.  I can add the transition and change that one, but FCP doesn't remember this preference and makes me do it all over again whenever I use the transition.  My FCP is very buggy!

Are you using the correct method to make a new default transition?
If, for example, you want to make a 10 frame dissolve as your default, 1st place a default dissolve on the timeline:
Then change it to 10 frames duration:
Then click on that dissolve in the timeline to select it, and drag it to the FCP browser:
And let go. Then Control-click on the effect in the browser and from the drop down menu choose "Set Default Transition"
Once you have done that, your 10 frame dissolve will the effect applied when you apply the default transition.

  • After Effects Color Settings

    Hello Everyone.
I noticed Inside File-Project Settings- Color Settings, My working space is set to None. Is this color setting works like the Photoshop,  that you have either Adobe RGB 1998, or ProPhoto RGB ?
Also In The Dept, It is set to 8 bit.
My Images, are Originally Raw Shots 16 bit and later saved as a .Tiff format.  and their color setting is Adobe RGB 1998, Or ProPhoto RGB. 16 bit and some In 8 bit , and some of my Images
Have been saved for the web are sRGB, 8 bit.  And my Videos are from Canon 5D, and they are 1920 by 1080 24 fps.  I also have many old Shots from my Canon GL1, that are "NTSC not HD".
But I am not sure about this After Effects Color Settings..  Is this color setting has to match the PhotoShop Color setting ?
    Thanks.

  • After Effects Preferences Settings

    Hello Everyone.
I was a watching a video Tutorial, and the Instructor advised in such a settings.
would you please look at my Screen-Shots from my preferences settings and let me know if it is OK.
NOTE: My computer has 16 Gig of Ram
    Thank You Very Much.

You may wanna lower your RAM allotted per background CPU. As you see your not gonna be using any multiprocessing for multi frame rendering which may or may not be a better set up. It's wise to try different set ups to see what works best. Theres a "rule of thumb" here Please try recommended memory settings for After Effects CS5 and give feedback. | After Effects region of interest.

  • After effects multicore settings advice

    Hi guys,
I just got cs6 master collection working on my 64 bit machine. I remember when I installed cs4 on this machine I had to go into preferences in After Effects and enable multicore editing or such to take advantage of all my 16gb ram and i7 processor. Does anyone have any advice on getting the most from the master collection like this? and indeed in other programs, not just after effects.
Edit: I have read all the blog threads relating to this and think I have done it right.
My machine is 8 cores, 16gb ram, i7 processor with nvidia gtx 580 card.....
I have set the RAM reserved for other applications to 6 gb./ CPUs reserved for other applications to 3 / RAM allocation per background CPU to 3gb. / actual CPUs that will be used is 2.
    Many thanks,
    Brian.

I think it should automatically take advantage of all cores and memory.

  • IMac Blueberry changing Display resolution default settings

Hey everyone.... after a quick search I found this old archived post:
333 iMac OS 10.3.2 screen resolution?
    Posted: Oct 4, 2005 3:50 PM
My mum is using an elderly 333 MHz iMac, tray-loading. She wanted to upgrade from system 8.6, so I updated the firmware, then installed OS 10.3.2 (10.4 won't run on a tray-loader). Under 8.6 she had the monitor resolution set to 640x480, as it effectively magnified everything for her aging eyes. Unfortunately, under 10.3.2 the 640x480 resolution seems only partially supported - I can set the monitor to that, but a reboot resets it to either 800x600 or 1024x768. Is there any way (a software patch?) that I can force it to reboot consistently with a 640x480 resolution?
    Thanks,
    Roy
I've basically got the same problem... I've got an iMac blueberry (slot-loading) and have sucessfully installed OS X 10.3 on it. The computer is for my grandpa who has a real hard time seeing... I think the zoom features would be confusing for him as his spatial awareness is also not great. The 640x480 is what I'd like to keep the resolution at however, upon rebooting the computer it goes back to its factory default. Any suggestions?
    Thanks for the help!
    ~T

I will assume that you DO know how to use Terminal to change the default?
I'm fine in terminal... I just don't know which files to manipulate to change the default resolution. I can't find this information anywhere.
This would be of great help if you know this information.
Also, Universal Access settings have been used of course, however, "zoom" would be confusing for him, as noted in my previous post.
    Thanks

  • Can you change X Pro default settings to save all PDFs using "smallest file size" job option?

Is there a way to change Acrobat X Pro's default PDF Save settings to use the settings in Distiller's "smallest file size" job options, or adjust Acrobat's default save settings to a close match?

In Windows you select the printer in the Start>Printers menu and right click to get the properites. You can then go to the settings tab and select the smallest file size job options. When you do it in the printer settings, you have set the default. Be very careful with this choice. It typically reduces the image resolution and embeds no fonts. If you are not distributing the file, then probably not an issue. However, with distribution you risk many folks not being able to read the PDF because of strange characters and low-res image.

  • How to change render resolution of After Effects project in Adobe Media Encoder for an H264 preview?

I'd like to render a 1080i comp at half resolution or third resolution in AME to speed up render times for low-res previews. I just had a low-res H264 preview take 5 minutes to encode in AE, and 28 minutes in AME.
This is easily accomplished in the After Effects render settings. However, the "video" option in AME seems to imply the project is encoded at that resolution, not rendered at it.
I went into AE and changed the setting in the composition viewport to "half", but when I queue it up in AME, the "Match Source" button still indicates 1080.
What is the correct method to get the results I want?
I'm currently using AE CC and AME CC on Windows.

Thanks for taking the time to answer this question. Knowing this isn't possible at least narrows my options down. It would be helpful to provide some kind of list of what comp settings carry over into AME from After Effects. Is it essentially everything that is enabled in the Timeline? (I know that motion blur settings do.)
I'll put this in a feature request, but yes, we need the other half of After Effects Render Queue in AME in order for AME to be a good replacement for rendering from AE. I'll give you my thoughts on why Render Settings are essential before you would actually want to render with AME instead of doing so because you have to (either because you want to render in the background, or need a codec that has been removed from AE.)
    1. Speed: Simply applying a Render Settings preset is much faster than manually setting motion blur, frame blending, work area, etc.
    2. Reliability: Not being able to apply a Render Settings preset at the time of render is a recipe for missing a crucial setting buried in a comp, then having to redo a render and wasting time.
    3. Features: As noted above, there is no way to approximate Render Queue's ability to change resolutions at render, which results in a lot of wasted time when that feature is needed.
Render Settings I think are crucial to making AME rendering worthwhile for AE users:
    1. Rendering resolution
    2. Work Area/Entire Composition toggle
    3. Field Rendering (wait, does this mean AME can't currently render to fields?)
    4. And PRESET ability these settings, so I'm not doing them manually every time.
I realize that your team clearly doesn't spend the same amount of time I do making low res H264 previews and sending final files out in H264 format, so you don't appreciate the impact of the changes you made. Moving to AME for that stuff is a real inconvenience, but implementing the settings above could help soften the blow.
    Thanks,
    Jerry

  • After Effects CC (CS7)

Attempting to render out - this new incarnation of After Effcts no longer offers h.264 and h.264 Blu Ray.. Is this intended?
h.264 - mp4 output is the one we've always used most - and now completely gone...?
Searching for it - I found an h.264 container under the f4v output settings which I've never used. To get an h.264 out - must I go there?

    http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2013/04/whats-new-changed-after-effects-next.html
removed H.264, MPEG-2, and WMV formats from the default state of the After Effects render queue: In general, you should use Adobe Media Encoder to create output in these formats that have been deprecated from the After Effects render queue. If you need to be able to export these formats directly from After Effects, you can re-enable them by setting the preference Show Deprecated Formats In Output Module Settings in the Output preferences category.
commands for sending composition to Adobe Media Encoder (AME) encoding queue: There are two new menu commands and a keyboard shortcut for sending the active composition or compositions selected in the Project panel to the Adobe Media Encoder encoding queue: Composition > Add To Adobe Media Encoder Queue, File > Export > Add To Adobe Media Encoder Queue, Ctrl+Alt+M (Windows), and Command+Option+M (Mac OS). While exploring Adobe Media Encoder, be sure to check out the new DNxHD import and export features, as well as the Match Source new features for automatically matching output settings to those of the source item.
    > Searching for it - I found an h.264 container under the f4v output settings which I've never used. To get an h.264 out - must I go there?
No. F4V files are intended for playback via Flash only. The data inside is H.264, but the container format is not intended for uses other than Flash.

  • Problem of Video Export on After Effect CC

How come my screen resolution changed automatically after I convert my comp to H.264 (mp4) movie by After Affects CC? Graphics come out weirdly fatter, such as the ellipse I draw can't be in perfect circle. Can someone help me fix this issue, please?

Your composition was rectangular pixels, your artwork was improperly interpreted, you failed to understand pixel aspect ratios. Generally you always want to create all of your projects using After Effects default composition sizes that result in square pixel projects. Only the very rare project would be delivered in a non square pixel format.
If you post your composition settings we can verify this is true and that I'm not just guessing. The only other option is that for some reason you adjusted the output module and render settings to scale the project and produce a non square pixel render.

  • After Effects PC Quicktime Audio Sync

I'm putting this here for fellow PC-users who are experiencing this major frustration.
When RAM previewing, your audio is in sync.  But after rendering, when you play back a rendered Quicktime movie in Quicktime player - no matter WHICH codec you render to - the audio is out of sync.  If you try playing it in a browser (Quicktime plugin), it is also out of sync.
Fear not, PC users: your movie audio is not out of sync.  Quicktime playback via either standalone or browser plug-in is not playing the file properly.  You can test this a couple of ways: 1) Try playing it with VLC on your PC: magically, it's in sync.  2) Open your rendered movie on any Mac, or via a browser on any Mac: magically, it's in sync.
The Quicktime platform and its various implementations continue to set the lowest standard, given the enormity of the resources at Apple, and its prevalence in production.  As a VFX and multimedia content creator for 20+ years, I wince every time a client asks for ProRes, lossy files, as "masters."  Between the inconsistent gamma-shift issues and local playback sync, I avoid using Quicktime wherever possible.
    Hope this helps,
    _Mike

Well, first off, my personal preference whenever any media comes to me is to immediately split the audio and video, and convert to .wav and image sequences.  With any .mov or .avi or .mp4-type container, one small corruption and the entire file is lost.  For safety's sake, image sequences are infintiely safer.  They're also easier during the production phase, where changes from a client can mean simple patching of just the relevant frames.  On tight deadlines, knowing that the entire output comp is ready to go at a moment's notice is often a lifesaver, and this allows me to make changes and re-output approval masters very quickly.  Time is money.
My preferred image sequence codec is OpenEXR, but I'll use TIFF, or even PNG, depending.  Ultimately, I deliver client masters as uncompressed TIFFs with .wav and/or .aiff audio. For as long as I've been in post-production, these formats have been around and withstood the test of time.  Usually, clients will want some sort of Quicktime with the master files, in which case it's Animation (lossless) codec with embedded audio.  But I can't sleep at night knowing how easily corruptible that is as a master, so I provide it in addition to the image sequences and audio files.
During production, I'll render to whatever the client wants to see/whatever's easiest, and I have plenty of Macs and PCs around here, though my primary workstation is PC.  Locally, I render my disposable tests to After Effects' default: lossless .avi.  I posted the original information about working with Quicktime above because I see this error 1000x a week, as many of my clients like to see .h264 media, and about 1% of them ever seem to notice the [obvious!] gamma issues or sync problems.  These are the world's biggest media corporations spending millions, and they rarely seem to notice or care.  Miss a word in the legal disclaimer, though, and they can see that in 6-point type from across the room...  priorities.

  • Whenever I scrub through After Effects CC it freezes.

My specs and After Effect Memory Settings are below. The project I currently am working on has about 10 Comps and 50 pre comps. There are a lot of moving parts and to be honest I have not worked on any animations on this machine. Its older as you can see below. My guess is that it is a hardware issue. Not sure if older Mac Pros can run two graphics cards but I know I should have one dedicated GPU to AE. I am coming to the forums to see if there is a workaround until I have the money to buy better hardware or to see if that is even the issue? Help?
    Here are my specs:
Here are my After Effect Memory Settings:

Thank you for your replies. A little more about the project:
My maximum resolution is 720p. I have expressions riddled throughout the project. Really it is just duplicated it a bunch of comps. Not sure this affects anything. I also have things animated objects moving up and down, nothing to fancy. I have minimal camera movements in various comps but thats about it.
Dave, I changed those settings and well it is unfortunate that the OS could further complicate this program.
As I have been writing this I have checked whether the settings had fixed the issue and it looks like it has! I guess the old mac doesn't like it when AE hogs up all of the CPUs. I am not entirely sure why they even give you the option. Anyway, thank you both for your replies.

  • Shopping Cart - Default Settings for items

    Hi all,
We are on SRM 7.0  SP05 classic scenario with backend ECC 6.0 EHP4.  There is a requirement to retain shopping cart default settings so that user is no need to enter default values on each shopping cart creation.
We are intent to develop a custom WDA for users to edit their own shopping cart default settings, the values will be saved to user position attributes and extended attributes (including some customized attributes) at PPOMA_BBP.  After that, default settings will be copied from attribute during shopping cart creation, for example:
Item Basic Data: Product Category <== extended attribute "Product Category" value which is set as default
Account Assignment: Account Assignment Category <== attribute KNT which is set as default
Assign Number: Cost Center <== attribute CNT,  Asset <== attribute AN1, WBS Element <== attribute PRO  (plus two custom attributes to hold value of Internal Order and Network)
    Here are the questions:
    (1)  For GL account, we did not config combination of Product Category and Account Assignment Category in SPRO, we will create a custom attribute as mentioned above.  However, where can we insert our coding to copy custom attribute value to default setting during shopping cart creation?   Is class /SAPSRM/CL_PDO_USER_CONTEXT  a candidate?  If yes, which method should be enhanced?
    (2)  For Delivery Address, if we do not use standard address management and maintain value at attribute ADDR_SHIPT, we intent to use similar approach: maintain custom attribute and then populate to default settings.  The same question is where can we insert our coding to copy custom attribute values to default setting during shopping cart creation?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Donald
