Change allocation on startpage in the OEM10G Database Control

Hallo,
I use Oracle 10.1.0.4 with OEM Database Control.
My Problem is that I want to change the allocation to update the startpage where the standard attitude is "manuell". I want to have "automatic(60 s)" every time when I start the EM10G.
Where is the switch to change this!?
Thanks ahead

No it is set ex 10g R2 with automatic as default but in Version 10.1.0.4 it is set with "manuel" as default, so I have always to click on the update-Button or it's disconnect after 45 min.
I haven't seen the exact setting for autmoatic rebuild in the emoms.properties either but the setting with oracle.sysman.eml.maxInactiveTime (stand in the documentation under http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B12013_03/addnl_tasks.htm#sthref1181) is almost the same meaning. I thought their could be a possiblity to use an other setting for my case.
But I don't know if their is any option for automatic rebuild of the enterprise manager in the emoms.properties file or if i'm maybe in the complete wrong config-file.

• How to open the 10g Database Control Webpage from another computer ?

it is a freshly installed Oracle 10gR2 EE on windows xp professional.. all settings are default by installer.
i can open the Database Control Webpage on the database machine by typing http://localhost:1158/em in IE.
however when i try to open it from another pc on the same LAN by using http://database_pc_ip_address:1158/em in IE, it says the page can not be found.
what else need to be done before i can open the Database Control Webpage from another PC?
thanks for the help !

You have a configuration problem on your database machine, LOCALHOST is resolved to the internal loopback address 127.0.0.1, not to the actual IP-Address of the machine. Such a configuration works only locally, for remote access you have to specify a hostname known to the network. Check the installation guide for the correct setup (machines connected to a network or not, DHCP or not):

• Database Control always gets "The database status is currently unavailable"

I have two 10.1.0 databases installed on a Windows XP machine. Instance orcl always gets this message. Instance orcltwo does not. If I shut down orcl and then start the web database control page I can select the startup button and it starts up the database and then goes back to the pages that says that the database is not available. The console for that database is running with no errors that I can find. The DBSNMP account is not locked. The SYSMAN account is not locked. There are no errors in any log file that I can find. What am I doing wrong here. The orcltwo instance has no problems at all.

Just to share this experience with everyone. This happened with Grid Control (not sure if it applies to Database Control).
All the targets in EM (except the Agent) showed Down or Unavailable for two weeks. This is how I checked it.
Note that if the Agent is not able to upload Metrics to the repository due to one reason or the other, you will not be able to see the current status.
Assuming your ORACLE_HOME is different from your AGENT_HOME. Check the emagent trace file in the Agent home.
e.g with AGENT home as D:\oracle\agent\
check D:\oracle\agent\sysman\log\emagent.trc to see the latest error message.
Then check the upload directory to see if there are xml files waiting to be uploaded
e.g D:\oracle\agent\sysman\emd\upload
This directory should be clear of .xml file if your metrics loading is working.
From the Agents Monitoring screen in Enterprice Manager (Management System -> Agent), under the Upload session where there is Upload Metric Data button, check for "Last Successful Upload" and "Data Pending Upload " and any error messages. If the Metric upload is not working, the Data Pending uplaod will be more than 0.00MB and the error message link will show you the xml file it is unable to load. Which you will find in my example D:\oracle\agent\sysman\emd\upload
I my example upload file B0002332.xml is the one I found on the error url and when I viewed it in the directory, the structure is different from others. This inability to load it caused all other upload files to be queuing. There was a line in it as
<METRIC_GUID><![CDATA[€=3F6739EE03C21CE7CA5E32FD9185]]></METRIC_GUID>
Looking at the structure of other files, I took a guess (not the best , this is a test EM) and changed it to
<METRIC_GUID>80C23F6739EE03C21CE7CA5E32FD9185</METRIC_GUID>
Then all the two weeks 32MB of xml files loaded automatically within seconds. Logoff EM and Login, everything showed the correct status.
Hope this helps.

• Is OEM database control configured for the DBs?

Hi
I have multiple oracle (10gR2) databases running on a linux (5.8) server. How can I check that for which of the databases has the OEM Database Control been configured and on what port is it listening?

• Run Singlular Database Control and Grid Control Agents at the same time????

Hello,
I have walked into a new job where one of my 1st tasks is installing and configuring EM Grid Control version 10.2.0.3. Most of the individual databases already have singular EM/Database Control also set up for basic monitoring - some are 10.2.0.1 databases; some are 9.2.0.7 databases.
Can I continue to run the existing singular EM Database Controls for monitoring and managing the databases while I am getting connected, the new agents up and running, and the Grid Control templates and alerts and notification fully set up?
Or will I have to shut down those agents fully prior to installing the new 10.2.0.3 agents???
I am hoping so since they use different communication ports of 1158 for the singular Database Controls versus 4889 for Enterprise Wide Grid Control.
Thanks for any help in clarifying this.
KL

OK, so as long as I keep the homes separate & straight, I could conceivably allow them both (Database Control and Grid Control Agent) to run AND be used at the same time - even when using secured grid control (https), correct? Just have the separate homes for separate agents and use separate ports for the different consoles?
Of course I might still run into an issue with this, ass I am also in the process of securing Grid Control... The current Database Console used by the app users to monitor is NOT an https url...
The real reason for this is because some app users are used to using the EM Database Control for application monitoring. I would like to not take that away from them while I am in the process of setting up all of the users, roles, alerts, groups, etc. on Grid Control.

• Workshop Database Controls

We are using workshop as our development tool for a new project. Are there any guidelines concerning when to use a Database Control vs an EJB for database updates? How do Database Controls differ from entity EJB's in terms of transaction management?

Henrik--
In general, the Workshop Database Control executes the SQL that you
see in each method's annotations. So, you can do a batch update in the
context of a single transaction if you wrap a database control in a
custom control which calls database control methods many times.
Relative to your JPF, this would look like a batch update.
If you pass RowSet objects to Database Control methods, the RowSet
will generate update / insert / delete SQL statements to push changes
made in the RowSet into the database.
Hope that helps...

• OS Host Credentials in Perform Recovery Page of 10g EM Database Control

I have installed 10g on my PC with windows 2000 professional as OS. I access the EM Database Control by entering the following Address in IE.
http://127.0.0.1:1158/em/
I login to the database with credential as
User Name: Sys
Password: Ashzak
Connect as: SYSDBA
When I access the Perform Recovery or Backup Setting or Recovery Setting Pages and make some changes and want to apply it, prompts for OS credentials appear, But when I supply the OS credentials as
Login: Ashraf
Password: ashzak
It does not work and wrong password message appears.
I had login to the PC on which the target database is located with the following credentials
Login: Ashraf
Password: ashzak
The user Ashraf is a member of ora_dba group, administrator, users and power users.
Why it dosn't work for EM Database control.
Can anyone help in this scenario?

Ashraf,
On windows you need to set for log on as batch job for windows. Please follow the procedure mentioned below,

• Add second instance to Enterprise Manager 10g database control

Hi,
I have a server with one Oracle 10g database instance, and I
configured the local Enterprise Manager database control for it.
Now I added a second instance on the server, using the same Oracle
home. Can I manage this new instance using the existing database
control or do I have to configure a second database control using
another port? The documentation isn't too clear on this.
Thanks,
Matthias

You can't manage the two database using database control. you have to go for Grid control only if you need to configure two or more instance.

• Very Basic: Can I install OEM 12c in a 'Database Control' style?

Environment:
Oracle 11.2.0.3 EE on Solaris 5.10 u10
No experience with OEM, yet ...
I would like to set up OEM 12c for one (1) Test database but want to make the installation as easy as possible and without as much of the 'Cloud' control 'stuff' for managing several databases. Kind of like the 11g Database Control versus Grid Control.
We're in the planning stages of setting up a 'real' OEM 12c environment but I wanted to get a jump on things using this small test database.
I've been reading the Basic and Advanced Installation manuals but haven't seen anything about a leaner/smaller installation type.
Oh yes, I need to use the 'silent' install method as we did for the databases.
Pointers to other docs I'm missing are appreciated.
Any suggestions are most welcome.
Thanks very much.
-gary

Thanks very much for the confirmation! I feel better that I couldn't find anything in the documentation.
I appreciate your taking the time to respond.

• Workshop 81 Database Controls & Informix

Hi !
Does anybody have a solution for the following problem ?
Problem: Using Workshop 81 and Informix JDBC driver from IBM (version 2.21), I'm
trying to build a database control to insert/retrieve large TEXT data into Informix
DB.
Q: Of which java data type should be the input/return value from my method in
the Workshop database control (I think it should be java.sql.Clob) Is this correct?
Q: If so, does IBM's Informix JDBC driver support operations like (rs.getClob,
etx on TEXT fileds) ?
Q: If not, can I build this kind of database control with IBM's JDBC driver at
all ?
Please forward possible solutions to my email ([email protected]).
Mux thnx,
Matevz

Since no one answered yet, I'll answer myself (some). I found a neat article and the code to go with it on dev2dev that handles paging through many rows by wrapping the <netui:repeater> tag. See:
http://dev2dev.bea.com/pub/a/2005/02/netui_repeater.html
Very cool. Thanks to the author, Gerald Nunn. I'd much rather find code already written than have to write it myself. ;-)

• What happened to Database Control?

Why are all OEM topics now forced to reside under the heading "Grid Control"? Grid Control is not the only OEM management option. In fact, it's not even the default: Database Control is installed with any basic 10g installation and serves as the default OEM manager.
Since 10g was released, I often see the terms "OEM" and "Grid Control" used interchangably, and that's not correct on a global level. Both options exist, and anyone running a single database instance is much more likely to use Database Control over Grid control, or if they don't have a terabyte of physical memory on their host.

Hi John!
I use VMware. I've created a RedHat 3.0 virtual machine and started it with 1 GB of RAM. Then I install EMGC and the local agent. I shutdown everything including the VM and edit its setting to come up with 512 MB.
Boot, start the GC and voila! it works. This is of course not a production ready system, but we have a working EMGC for a couple of machines (100+) on a 2 CPU with 4 GB in production.
