  • Ask Apple for better iPhoto (Aperture) Library sharing!

    *Some Background...*
My wife and I each have our own Mac and iPhone and we share a digital camera. Between the three camera devices we snap a lot of photos and we want easy access (over the network!) to each other's photos so we can both maintain a shared library. iPhoto 8.1.2 (iLife '09) allows some rudimentary sharing, but it's very basic and not centralized. So, all photos are accessible only when both Macs are on the network and iPhoto is running on each. If you search for "iPhoto sharing" in the forums or Google you'll see a LOT of people have the same needs.
    http://www.google.com/search?q=iphoto+sharing
    *My Humble Suggestion...*
How do I think iPhoto should work? You should have an option of establishing a "Master iPhoto Library". Either locally to share among users of the same computer or on the network for users to share between multiple computers. Whatever photos are added to a user's iPhoto Library may optionally be merged into the Master Library for all to see/edit etc. If the user wants they can move them to the Master or copy them (to retain their own version for editing as they see fit). They may also copy from the Master to their local library if they have a MacBook and want to take them on the go...
If Apple truly wants to provide a digital "hub" for it's users, they must provide this sort of sharing for their services. Families share contacts, photos, calendars, movies and music. This concept should be applied to iTunes, Address Book, iCal, Aperture etc.
+If you agree with this or have any of your own ideas please post here and PLEASE let Apple know+ ==> http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html

By all means make a feature request. Absolutely nothing will change unless you do.
    But some points to ponder:
As I often point out when this one comes up, averaged out of the cost of iLife, iPhoto is a $16 application. For that you get a lot - and with a bit of work, you can even do much of what you want to do - but you don't get everything.
There are apps that will do as you want. They start around the $200 mark.
    As to specifics:
You should have an option of establishing a "Master iPhoto Library".
    Easily done.
Either locally to share among users of the same computer
Put it in the Users/Shared Folder.
or on the network for users to share between multiple computers
Go out an buy a NAS device. Put the iPhoto Library on a disk image formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) stored on the NAS. On a NAS it will not require another computer to be available. You might even be able to put in an USB HD attached to an Airport device.
Whatever photos are added to a user's iPhoto Library may optionally be merged into the Master Library for all to see/edit etc.
You can do this - along with all versions, metadata etc - with iPhoto Library Manager.
If the user wants they can move them to the Master or copy them (to retain their own version for editing as they see fit).
You can do that with either iPhoto Library Manager or basic iPhoto Sharing.
They may also copy from the Master to their local library if they have a MacBook and want to take them on the go...
    Ditto.
    Regards
    TD
ps. Some of these links are well out of date. For instance, with iPhoto 09 there is no longer a need to manipulate ACLS to share Libraries. One of those links is labelled "10.4 only" and you need a minimum of 10.5.6 for iPhoto 09.

  • Automatic refresh of photo order when changing photo titles in iPhoto 9.6

I've just moved from an older version of iPhoto to 9.6.
In the previous version, when you changed the title of a photo (within an event), the sort order of the photos was automatically and immediately updated.  In 9.6 it isn't - I have to do View - Sort Photos then select another sort criteria (e.g. date), then do this again for title, to get the photo order to refresh.
Does anyone know if I am I stuck with this new (retrograde) behaviour, or if there's a way to get iPhoto 9.6 to automatically refresh the photo order?
Otherwise, is there a keyboard shortcut for refreshing the photo order, or for changing the view - sort photos criteria?
Thanks in advance for any help!

It will resort if you leave the Event (click All Events button) and then go back.  Not a good solution but quicker IMO than using the View ➙ Sort menu method.

  • Apple ID and iPhoto

Macbook Air is registered to my apple ID. Iphoto, garage band, imovie came on the laptop but somehow all linked to an apple ID no longer used and don't remember ID. I want everything inked together. How can I change those programs to my ID without re-purchasing them? Genius Bar has been unable to help.

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • HT5787 Change apple id for all purchased apps...

I want to change apple id in my iphone as my old apple ID's password is not working. Please help me. I want to change apple ID for all new and old purchases.

Have you tried logging out an back into that account on your phone (tap on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store), and/or tried getting the password reset for it : http://iforgot.apple.com (if you do get the password reset then you might need to logout and back into it) ?
If you create a new account then that will work for new purchases, but all of your existing downloads will remain tied to your old account, so only your old account will be able to redownload those purchases and/or download updates to its apps.

  • How to change apple id on iPhone. Wife and I have same apple ID.  Get each others iMessages. want to put her on another cloud with different id.

How to change apple id on iPhone? Wife and I have same apple ID which causes me to get her iMessages instead of her. I also get all her pics on my phone and I don't want them.  We need to change her apple ID without causing my ID and cloud to be closed.

Have her create a new ID.   Here:  https://appleid.apple.com/
Have her log out of iMessage/Facetime/iCloud on her device.   Now have her use the new ID she has created.
That should keep the 2 of you separated, except for iTunes purchases.   You can share that ID in a family up to 5 devices.

I can't get FaceTime or iMessage to connect, I enter valid password (tested and works for Apple account) and it won't connect. I have checked all settings, upgrades iOS to 8.3 rebooted, changed Apple acount PW still wont connect. My internet connection is fine Safari works and I can access all sites. I have an iPad 2. Any help on this will be greatly appreciate.  iPad 2, iOS 8.3

This is an ongoing problem as you will see by searching the forum.
Out of curiosity, do you have 2 step verification enabled?  It was recently extended to include iMessage & FaceTime & I'm wondering if it might be causing some of the issues that some users are experiencing.

  • I changed apple Id but old Id was to an email I can't access and now I can't change apple I'd in I phone

I changed apple I'd to new email on line and when I went to change I'd in phone it still has old I'd with email I can no longer access and I don't remember old password. How can I reset set it in icloud with new I'd?

You need to call Apple at 1800myapple or check your rescue email.

  • TS3988 iCloud will not accept any passwords after upgrading OS. 2 days of trying every password I have ever used, AND changing Apple ID and iTunes ID, still nothing. Can't backup on iCloud anymore.

How can I use iCloud again after upgrading OS to Mountain Lion?  2 days of trying every password I have ever used, AND changing Apple ID and iTunes ID, still nothing. Can't backup on iCloud anymore.

Apple ID's can be used for anything, a single ID can be used for all your accounts (ie iCloud, iTunes, MAS, Apple community etc), ideally this would be the way forward. So far as iTunes goes you need to continue to use the same ID as you have always used or you will lose access to your previous purchases and your iTunes match subscription.
If you are using a second ID for iCloud, you can continue to do so or use the ID you use for iTunes, but if you choose the later you will need to move all your calendar, contact etc data to the account using the ID you use for iTunes.
When (if) you change which account you use you would delete the account on an iOS device and log back in with the correct details, on a mac you would sign out in the iCloud system preference pane.

  • How do I assign a new Apple ID to iPhoto?

It all began back in 2010 when I bought a used PowerMac G5 to see how I got along with MacOS. When I got it, the OS was already set up, along with a few Apps, such as iPhoto and iMovie. I didn't have an apple ID back then, and it didn't matter, because the OS running (Leopard) didn't require one. So I used the preinstalled iPhoto.
Then, in 2011, i scraped my money together, bought a MacBook Pro and used the built-in Mirgation assistant to get my documents and data there.
Since then I wasn't able to update iPhoto, because it probably was installed on the PowerMac with a different apple ID - and this information was transported over to my Macbook. The app store wouldn't let me install it with my own ID. And because I can't find a dmg for iPhoto, I can't just uninstall and reinstall it.
Now using a non-updated iPhoto wasn't really a problem - until now that Mavericks won't support this old version any more. And I can't access my photos any more.
So is there a way to assign a new Apple ID to iPhoto? Or to uninstall and reinstall it without losing any photos?
Because there is no way to get the ID from the company that sold me this Power Mac. I don't have any contact data any more...

To create a new ID see:
Frequently Asked Questions About Apple ID
    Then either you can:
    - erase the iPod (Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Settings) and set it up as a new iPod with her ID
    - Use the new ID on her iPod but only for:
    Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
    Settings>FaceTime
    Settings>Game Center
and Settings>iCloud if you want her to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
You can also continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases.

  • I have Iphone 4s, and the phone will activate itself again. How do I get changed Apple ID on my phone so that I get using the new username and password that is verified? I would like an answer as soon as possible ... Thank you very much.

I have Iphone 4s, and the phone will activate itself again. This I have verified, but when I shall put this onto my phone, so the phone will not approve the newusername and password. How do I get changed Apple ID on my phone so that I get using the new username and password that is verified? Silly to buy a new phone just for this .... The phone is almost three years old. How long can weexpect this to last? I would like an answer as soon as possible ... Thank you very much.

It sounds like your device might be in Activation Lock.  Is it asking your to enter in an Apple ID & password, but only showing you the first letter of the email address and then some dots? Example: j•••••@icloud.com?
If so, do you recognize that email?  Do you have an Apple ID that fits the same format?  If so, then go to www.cloud.com, log in with that Apple ID & password, and see if under Find My iPhone it shows this device.  If so, turn off the device, then remove the device from the list.

  • How can i change Apple id on the administrator account?

I recently got an imac with the mac mini. I am switching over to mac from being a lifelong pc user, so this is new to me. When i first set up the computer i put in the apple id with my email address, but it was the same one that i use for my ipad.  I am now trying to change this because when someone else is on the imac and i try to face time with them from the imac to my ipad it wont let me because i am basically calling myself. Or when i send messages through the messaging app from the imac to my another persons ipod it comes out with the email address that i have on my ipad. I tried to change it by going to System Preferences> Users and Groups> Change apple id. Yet when i change it and save it, it still has the old apple id. I am not sure if i am making any sense but if someone could please help me figure this out i would greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks
    Mariela

I agree with drdocument about having one Apple ID, but I have two because Apple switched to using email addresses, so my original ID was no longer "valid" in some cases.
Two switch the user ID, go to System Preferences/Users & Groups. After unlocking the lock, on the password tab you should see an Apple ID box. I was able to add both IDs and can switch between them.
    I hope this helps.

  • HT5621 How do I keep one Apple ID on iPhone and iPad and change Apple ID on my daughters iPod and iPad that currently share same apple id

How do I change Apple ID on iPod 5 and iPad mini while keeping the same ID on iPad and iPhone.  I only want to change ID on 2 devices. Currently they share same ID. Thanks

You can start a new Apple ID, just understand all purchases made under an Apple ID are forever associated with that ID and can't be switched to a new one.
The requirements of an Apple ID is that it be from a valid email account.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2204
Since many apps are free, they can be repurchased free with a new Apple ID.
If you purchased valuable apps under your ID, get a new one for your daughter.   Or visa versa.
You can continue to keep them in one computer library which will allow you to sync them to all devices.
Updates will require the Apple ID and password from the purchasing Apple ID.
