Change Apple ID on one device only. Currently have multiple devices sharing the same apple id.

Hi
I currently have three devices sharing one Apple ID. Ipad (Work) Iphone (Wife) & Ipod Touch (Son)
I have purchased an iPhone for Christmas and want to migrate the ipod to a new Apple ID. I haven't created the an ID for the phone yet but just wondered what the easiest solution would be? Would it be a case of creating a new ID on the phone, then signing into the iPod with this ID. I understand whatever has been downloaded to the Ipod will no longer be available, but wondered if there were any solutions to this problem.

You can have media from more than one account on an iOS device. Note that
- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
I would set up the iPhone by:
iOS: Transferring information from your current iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device
Then on the iPod yocan either erase it and set it with the new ID or:
Use the new ID on iPod but only for:
Settings>Messages>Send and Receive
Settings>FaceTime
Settings>GameCenter
and Settings>iCloud if you want to have separate Contacts Calendar and some other things.
Continue to use the same/common Apple ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores so you can share purchases if you want to

  • HT204053 My wife and I just bought iPhone's, we use to share an account under one Apple ID, is there a way for one of us to share music without sharing the same Apple ID?

We use to have multiple iPods, now we both have iPhones. When she wants to FaceTime with relatives she has to use my Phone because that's where the Apple ID is "tied" to. Now if we want to FaceTime each other it gets weird.
We share similar taste in music so the music is not the problem.
I'd just like her to have her own Apple ID for FaceTime, apps, etc.
    is this possible?

Sorry... Apple IDs cannot be merged...
I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

  • Firefox just changed and now it won't let me have multiple windows with the same website open--it just maximizes the first window. How do I stop that?

For instance, I have PC Gamer opened in one window, and when I tried to set a different window to PC Gamer it maximized the first window.

If you try to open the same URL in more than one tab then you may have the "Switch to tab" feature preventing that.
Hold down the Alt or Shift key while an entry in the drop down list is highlighted to disable "Switch to tab" and see the URL of all entries instead.
    * Alt + Enter opens the highlighted URL in a new tab.
    * Shift + Enter opens the highlighted URL in the current tab.
    * Cursor Right copies the highlighted URL to the location bar in case you want to edit it.
*Switch to Tab no more: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/switch-to-tab-no-more/

  • Is it possible to have multiple accounts under the same apple id

I just bought an ipod touch primarily for my daughter to use, and would like to communicate from my ipad to the ipod touch using facetime. However, both are under my apple id and apple account. Is there a way I can talk from one device to the other - if they are both owned by me but being used at different locations? Additionally I would like to have a different ID for my MAC if possible, so I can communicate by facetime with people at home if I am not there.
    Any suggestions?

    Yes, follow the instructions here:

we have 6 devises sharing the same apple id and password. when we download a game app it will backup on all devices. therefore we can not run individual unconnected versions of the game. suggestions. thanks.

What do yo mean by: " it will backup on all devices"?
If you mean that is one persone purchases an app it appears on all device then on each device go to Settings>Store and turn off automatic downloads.

I'm relatively new to Mac and want to try and get the most out of the new MacBook Air.
My wife and I have been sharing the same Apple ID. We both have iPhones - she has a 5 and I've got a 4S.
We only have one copy of iTunes and we have been sharing the account. (She doesn't really use the computer for anything beyond writing the odd weekend assignment.)
Would I be better off setting her up with her own and making her as a separate user on the computer? Would this require much work?
In recent times with updates, we have a few problems with the duplication of texts and that sort of thing. Both of our texts are stored on the computer and that sort of thing. Also, sometimes texts I send her are sent through to me  from her, if that makes any sense.
Anyway, I don't really want to overly complicate matters when it comes to accounts etc, but I wanted to know if a fresh Apple ID would be the best thing or even a new user?
Any tips etc would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks in advance

I have this question too (0) Reply

Your question is almost too much a personal one, begging the question "do we (husband and wife) feel comfy sharing one account on the Mac"   maybe thats why nobody answered you.
It doesnt complicate anything, but it adds steps for switching accounts on the Mac/ purchases etc. of course
since your question is mostly personal, ..I wont answer THAT part of it, but creating a new account is easy.....messing with switching back and forth is also a personal preference 'issue' as well.   I prefer to keep things simple, but...........you and yours,  I dont know.......

  • I have 3 iDevices using the same apple ID. Does it mean I have 15Go for free or only 5Go?

I have 3 iDevices using the same apple ID. Does it mean I have 15Go for free or only 5Go?
With 3 iDevices, I'm very fast over the limit, and of course, I have to pay more !
    But I bought these 3 iDevices... I should get 15Go for free, shouldn't I?
Maybe I'm wrong... In any cases, if I can get 15Go, can you explain me how ?
    THANKS!

Thank you very much for your reply. I understand now. The 5Go limitation is linked to our AppleID and not linked to our iDevice...
I appreciate a lot Apple and all its universe, but I can't stand paying always more... even more when you bought 3 devices >600$ each, which are promoting iOS and the iCloud capabilities with a limitation of 5Go. It's a misleading advertising ! 5Go can seem to be enough for one device but it's sure that it's not enough for 3 !!! It's an insidious way to encourage once more the consumer to pay again and again.
Sorry but I find that a litlle bit irritating.
Do you know if we can use an alternative cloud compatible with our iDevice?

  • We have 3 devices used by 3 different people under the same Apple ID, how do I stop getting my daughters texts, both sent and received?

When you use the same Apple ID on 3 devices it means you are all using the same (email, imessaging, calendar etc).  Since iCloud (MobileMe) is designed to be shared across all devices included Macs, it means all devices setup with the same ID will have access to the information.
Text messaging is relevant only to the number you are texting.  This is done through your telecom companys lines and not on Apples.
If you do not want to have others be able to read any of your information then it is best you each have your own account.

    @apup80
It sounds that you are running the same iCloud account with two phones.  I recommend you to create a different iCloud account and you should be all set.

  • I have two ipads with the same apple id but my 3 year old uses one of them, how do i update hers witht he apps she can use instead of everything that is on min as well?

I have two ipads using the same apple id.  My 3 year old uses one to play learning games.  How do I set them up so my apps arent displayed on her ipad?

When you connect that iPad to iTUnes, go to the summary page and scroll down, there should be a box saying 'automatically update' or something to that effect. De select that.
With automatically update on, what you buy on one goes onto the other. but with that box off you can choose.
On the iPad itself, it's under
    Settings
    iTUnes and App Stores
and then you can choose what you want automatically updated between the two devices.

  • HT204053 Can multiple people use the same Apple ID for their own devices?

Can multiple people use the same Apple ID for their own devices? I just set up my IPhone 4S (first time user) using the same Apple ID as my daughters and now we receive each others texts, do I need to set up my own Apple ID account?

Yes, you can.  In fact it's recommended that you use different IDs for iMessage, FaceTime and iCloud.  You can still share the same ID for iTunes without any issues.
You are getting each other's text messages because you're using the same ID for iMessage.  To fix this, one of you should go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign in with a different ID.  To avoid getting each other's FaceTime calls, do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

  • Hi, I have an old iphone 3 and for Xmas received an iphone 5. I have 2 apple ID accounts, one on each phone, for me to be able to transfer messages, fotos, contacts etc from the iphone 3 to 5 do I have to be using the same Apple ID account?  Many thanks.

hi everyone, first time using this forum!
I have an old iphone 3 and for Xmas received an iphone 5. I have 2 apple ID accounts, one on each phone. For me to be able to transfer messages, fotos, contacts etc from the iphone 3 to 5 do I have to be using the same Apple ID account?  Many thanks.

You should only use one Apple ID for both phones.  All apps that you bought for your 3 are linked forever to the Apple ID used to buy them.  If you set up your iPhone 5 as a new phone, rather than restoring from a backup of the 3, you will lose the messages, but you can sync to get the pix, contacts and music.  It is safer to do it as a new phone, because sometimes restoring a backup from an earlier version of the phone can cause problems in the new phone (as told to me by an Apple store "genius" two days ago.)

  • If i have multiple iPhones and Mac Mini sharing the same Apple ID, can I use Facetime between the devices?

if i have multiple iPhones and Mac Mini sharing the same Apple ID, can I use Facetime between the devices?

Yes, but if you want these devices to have complete capability of calling each other they each must have their own separate, individual e mail address.  If they don't have individual e mail addresses, the i phones will be able to call each other because you'll be using their  individual phone numbers -- the Mac mini will be able to call the i phones, but, the iphones will not be able to call the Mac mini.  This is because the iphones will be using the mini's e- mail address to make the call, and if they have the same e mail address, they will think they are calling themselves, so the call will not connect.
So, the way I see it is,  if you keep all of the email addresses the same, the only thing you'll loose is the ability of the iphones to call the mini.
EDIT:  Thinking about it, my first sentence needs to be modified.  Your iphones can share an email address but it must be different from the Mac mini address.
This isn't rocket science, but it can make your head spin. LOL
