Change Apple ID--will data be lost?

Here's the situation:
My wife has long used my AppleID. She has a new phone now (iPhone 6) and wants to get her own ID. I'm worried about losing her contacts info and other data as we set up the new phone.
She does have her own Apple ID. I see on the old phone, in iCloud, that I can delete the original AppleID off that device. But will that delete her contacts and other items? None of the iCloud options are checked--her contacts and all else is on her phone, not in the cloud.
What is the right way to migrate to a new ID?

O.K., here's what I did. I backed up her old phone, just in case, and deleted the iCloud account. Her contacts were unaffected. Signed in under the new AppleID and turned on all the iCloud settings. Now waiting for eveything to back up, then we'll turn on the new phone.
I wish the warning Apple gives wasn't so scary and cryptic...this was easy...

changed apple id will not change on itunes

It is one or the other - an entirely new Apple ID or a change to the existing.
If an entirely new Apple ID, all apps include DRM protection that is tied to the Apple ID that was used to download the apps. You will need to use the former Apple ID and password to update apps that were downloaded with that Apple ID if an entirely new Apple ID was created.

  • Changing apple id will remove icloud content?

hello , so my question is that im using an apple id currently and i want to change the apple id to another one and im worried that if i change it it will remove the stuff that i have in my device.

  • If I change Apple ID will I lose all my contacts

My husband and I share an Apple ID and are separating accts, but don't want to lose my contacts

Having just changed my Apple ID to separate myself from my son who was sharing my ID I can tell you how to handle this in IOS7.  I went to the Apple web site and established my new ID.
I followed the advice on this support page to change my Apple ID  Change your Apple ID - Apple Support
I then followed the advice on this page to update the ID on my device Sign in with a different Apple ID on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
IMPORTANT!!!! When you delete your iCloud for your old Apple ID off your phone you will lose all your documents that are in the cloud but not your contacts that are out in the cloud.  Also, before following the directions on the"Sign in with a Different Account" page to delete the iCloud Apple ID first turn off iCloud sync on each item individually.  When you turn off the sync it will ask you if you want to keep the data on your phone.  Yes you do want this.  After turning off sync individually Delete the iCloud account for the old Apple ID.  Then when you then sign into iCloud with your new Apple ID select the Merge option and it will upload all your contacts and data to the iCloud account for your new Apple ID.
If you simply Delete your iCloud account it will delete all your contacts off your phone.  If you delete iCloud without first turning sync off Contacts and your contacts are then deleted off your phone, don't worry.  Simply log back into iCloud with your old account and your contacts will be restored.  Then you can turn off the sync on all items, Delete the old account from iCloud, sign in with the new apple Id, select Merge iPhone data.  So it puts your contacts and data from your phone into your new iCloud account.

  • Liquid damage on MacBook Pro will data be lost?

I have a MacBook Pro that I purchased two years ago. I spilled liquid on it and now it won't turn on. I know I will have to get a new one but I was wondering if there was any way for my old data like pictures and documents to be salvaged. Is there anyway apple can take out the memory in my old broken one and put it into my new one?

Not meaning to be a nag (well, yes, I guess I am, a little bit), but this sort of issue is precisely why one should always have an up to date backup (or more than one, ideally), on hand.  Had you a backup, the state of the internal HD would be immaterial at this point and your data safe and sound.
But, as others have pointed out, you may be able to just remove the internal drive. put it into an external enclosure and read everything off that way.

  • I have changed Apple ID -will my apps still update ?

I have an iPhone 5 and I've got apps from an historic Apple ID loaded on the device. I have decided today to change my Apple ID to the same one as my iCloud so I am only using one Apple ID. My question is will I be notified of updates for the apps downloaded under the old id ?

  • Change apple id retain data

i have got a iphone 4s from my partner, as see has upgraded and would like to change the apple id, app store accounts settings to mine, but i have been playing a game on it and would like to retain my progress on this game is this at all possible?

You can change the Apple ID signed into the iTunes Store without affecting the game’s existing functionality, but may not be able to make in-app purchases from it afterwards. You also won’t be able to install updates to the game from your Apple ID without deleting and redownloading it.

  • Will data be lost from IPhone on a new computer sync.

my old computer died on me, so i've now got a new computer... will syncing the phone to the new computer cause me to lose apps, music and contacts?

Unless you included your iTunes library with your computer's backup along with all other important data such as documents and photos, etc. stored on an external drive or some other external media used for backup purposes only, all iTunes content on your iPhone and all photos on your iPhone that was transferred from the computer that died will be erased from your iPhone when transferring any iTunes content and photos from the new computer.

  • Changing Apple Id to be my Icloud email address?

I have been using my sky.com email address as my Apple Id but I am now trying to stop using that for anything.   The apple web page for changing Apple Id will not let me use my icloud.com address as my apple id - it says it is an apple domain and that apple domains can't be used for apple ids.  Is there any alternative to having two email addresses?
Also my IPhone (3Gs) does not like the icloud email address - when I try to set up the account it comes back and says it can't log onto the me.com imap server with the icloud address. Is icloud email compatable with iphone 3Gs?

JWBL, I am annoyed by exactly the same issue and there are more and more people complaining. See the discussion I created here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20844772?ac_cid=op123456#20844772
Roger, your point is that you should always have a non-Apple email address associated with your Apple ID so Apple can send you login information if you lose your password. That is certainly true. But it does not imply that that non-Apple address has to be the name of your Apple ID. And there is even a way to make an iCloud Address the name of your Apple ID: If you create a completely new Apple ID with the initial setup of an iPhone. But that is of course not an option if you already purchased stuff with your existing Apple ID.
It is not a major problem, but it kind of annoys me that I keep seeing my obsolete Gmail address everywhere after I switched to iCloud and it's just a ridiculous limitations I can't see any reason for.

  • If I put an app in the trash so I can redownload it on the correct apple account, will all the data be lost?

If I put an app in the trash so I can redownload it on the correct apple account, will all the data be lost? The app is iPhoto and I can't open it since I updated my system to yosemite.

You choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide ~/Pictures/ as the path(or elsewhere if you moved the library), and drag the library to a volume formatted as Mac OS Extended.

  • Hi apple user. I have lost all iPad safari bookmarks. Tried hold home button with sleep button but it doesn't get back my safari bookmarks. I also have reset without erasing my iPad data but still doesn't work. Help me get back my safari iPad bookmarks.

Hi, I have lost all iPad safari bookmarks. Have tried reset without erasing data and hold home and sleep button together but when go to safari all safari bookmarks still lost. Is there any case help me get back my iPad safari bookmarks ? Currently my safari is hanged, can't surf webs or anything. I saw the safari tab on iCloud is on, but I don't know using iCloud. Please help me get back my iPad safari bookmarks. I have contact Apple but could not set chat session. I have my Apple ID registered same with iCloud, also same during the time I have all iPad safari bookmarks lost. My iPad never synced on computer since I bought it with set at local store. Please help me get my iPad safari bookmarks back, thanks.

Hi, I quitted Safari and press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously unti the Ipad turn off and on with the logo Apple appears but it has hanged on and fixed to the point. I do it again hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously and the Ipad turn off and on again with the Apple logo but it still is hanged on the same point. I have do it a few more time, it still hanged to the same point for few hours with no change (like picture):
I think my Ipad is fault now. I guess I must connect it to the computer with itune, or something. So my case is this: at the moment everytime I hold the Home and Sleep buttons the Ipad always off and reappear with the Apple logo and be hanged on (like the pic), and I need restoring my Ipad Safari bookmarks... so I guess I need using Itune or something to get back the Ipad then using Icloud or blah. Please guide me for the step, Im not sure if connect to PC, if any that my Ipad data would lost, or is there anyway that I also can get back Ipad Safari Bookmarks after connecting to PC, also the how using Icloud. There is no Apple store or service store in my country so I think I must do it my self. Feel free to share your guide, thanks.

  • TS3988 iCloud will not accept any passwords after upgrading OS. 2 days of trying every password I have ever used, AND changing Apple ID and iTunes ID, still nothing. Can't backup on iCloud anymore.

How can I use iCloud again after upgrading OS to Mountain Lion?  2 days of trying every password I have ever used, AND changing Apple ID and iTunes ID, still nothing. Can't backup on iCloud anymore.

Apple ID's can be used for anything, a single ID can be used for all your accounts (ie iCloud, iTunes, MAS, Apple community etc), ideally this would be the way forward. So far as iTunes goes you need to continue to use the same ID as you have always used or you will lose access to your previous purchases and your iTunes match subscription.
If you are using a second ID for iCloud, you can continue to do so or use the ID you use for iTunes, but if you choose the later you will need to move all your calendar, contact etc data to the account using the ID you use for iTunes.
When (if) you change which account you use you would delete the account on an iOS device and log back in with the correct details, on a mac you would sign out in the iCloud system preference pane.

  • Will changing Apple ID give me a new icloud account but save my apps and photos?

I currently have 2 ipads, an iphone and a MacBook, all using the same Apply ID and sharing the same icloud space.  The old ipad is used now primarily by my daughter, but it has tons of my photos that I do not want to lose.  But, I want to free up cloud space for the new ipad, iphone and MacBook.  If I change my apple ID for the old ipad, do I get a new icloud account to backup it up on?  And if I change the apple ID, will it still keep all my photos, music and apps that are currently on it, even apps that I purchased with the present apple ID?  Thanks for any help.

You can create a new iCloud account on your old iPad and migrate the data to the new account.  To do this,
if there are any photos in the my photo stream album on it that are not in the camera roll or backed up somewhere else save these to your camera roll or you will lose them.  To do this, open the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tap Edit, tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share, then tap Save to Camera Roll.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this iPad, not from iCloud.  The devices that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPad.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.
Finally, if there is any data in either account that you do not want you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer, sign into each iCloud account separately, then manually delete it.
You do not need to change the Apple ID in Settings>iTunes & App Stores.  You can continue to share the same iTunes account, along with apps and other purchased media.
