Change "Applications" directory location association

I recently installed a solid state drive that is not large enough to hold my entire system, but is large enough to hold all my applications. I've copied my applications folder over to the SSD drive, but, the system still associates with the applications on the HD, for instance, clicking the apple at the top left, and then opening System Preferences will open System Preferences from the original HD. Also, when I search Spotlight or LaunchBar for an application, it also associated with the folder on the HD.
How can I force the system to associate with the Applications folder on the SSD? So that all updates to applications go to that drive, etc.
Thank you for any help.

You need to first either delete the Applications folder on the HDD or rename it to something like Applications.old. Then select the icon of the Applications folder on the SSD, Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and select Make Alias from the menu. Drag the alias over to the HDD where your now renamed Applications folder is located. Rename the alias by removing " alias" from its filename. Now all calls to the Applications folder will find the one on the SSD instead of on the HDD.
You can use a shortcut for making the alias by holding down the OPTION and COMMAND keys then drag the icon of the Applications folder on the SSD over to the HDD. This obviates the need to rename the alias.

How to change application store location?

Step 1: Launch the iTunes program and, if you are logged in, sign-out of your Apple iTunes account (Store – > Sign-out).
Step 2: Scroll down and click “Change Country” – select the United States flag.
Step 3: search for the app. I know it has to be a free app. For paid apps you have to use something that is not a CC.
Step 4: iTunes will now require you to sign-in with your AOL, MobileMe or Apple ID. Instead of logging-in with your your existing Apple ID, click the “Create New Account” button and accept the “Terms and Conditions.”
Step 5: Use an email address that’s different from the one that’s linked to main Apple account. Under Payment Methods, choose “none” for the Credit Card section, give some dummy address and you’ll then receive a verification email.
Step 6: Click the link in that verification email and you’re done. To recap, you have now created a US based iTunes account and this will let you you can download any free app from the iTunes store even if the app is not available in your country.

  • How do you change the directory location from the hieachy window.

Our DAQ system consists of 285 vi's. During development changes, some vi's were created and passed to the DAQ via a LAN connection. Pulling up the vi's at the DAQ has changed the desired path such that some come from the LAN virtual drive, while others are resident on the DAQ PC. All have been copied to the PC's hard drive. Viewing the LabView hiearchy, how do I change the directory for a few individual vi's to point at only the PC harddrive? I saw this done once, but forgot how and cannot easy find it in the help files.

When this happens to me I temporarily disconnect the network drive or rename the network folder to force LabVIEW to do a search. If they're all in the same folder as the main VI, they'll be found automatically.

  • Changing default directory locations

I have Vista RC1 installed on a boot partition of my PC, I have changed the default location of "Documents" to my F: drive. Now I want to be able to change the defult location of "Public" folders, so that the dat ais stored on my G: drive.
I have tried to do this , but when i look at the Properties of Public\Music for example, it will not let me change the location value.
Does anyone know how i can get around this?

How do I change the default drive for downloads and installs to d:\program files or d\program files(x86) in Windows 8? I have installed a ssd boot drive and use it  as windows boot and upgrade drive. It's a 300gb drive with 280gb operating space and
95gb free. I don't want programs automatically installing to this drive. I have to keep changing the drive letter during installs (and some installs don't even ask).

  • How to change Host directory location?(Problems with host and ed)

Hi I'm having a problem with the commands Host and Ed. The problem being that when I run them they send back an error saying
    SQL>host
/bin/gnome-terminal: No such file or directory
    or
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file /home/joe/Documents/editfile.sql
/bin/gnome-terminal: No such file or directory
The problem is that /bin/gnome-terminal is not the correct location for my terminal directory, /usr/bin/gnome-terminal is. Are there any suggestions how I can be able to change it? I'm running SQLPlus 11.2.0.1.0 and I'm using ElementaryOS(made from Ubuntu). Let me know if there is any other information needed to help fix this.

This is not a SQL or PL/SQL language question  and thus off topic. As it is Linux o/s related, I think it is better suited for the Oracle Linux forum space.
My guess is, from the little info posted, that your TERM environment variable is not correctly set.

  • GUI closes if user tries to change work directory location

I have an issue with a user (running Windows7 and GUI 720). He wants to save to a local file and change the work directory to his desktop. As soon as he changes the path , his GUI completely shuts down. No one else has this issue. We are all able to change the path of our work directories at will but not this user. He doesn't want to change it in SO21 , he just wants the option to change it when he needs to from the popup.
I am guessing it is a setting somewhere but I don't know where to look
    Any advice is appreciated

    Hi,
this is working fine on my Windows 7 with GUI 7.20. have you tried the latest GUI Patch?

  • Can't change home directory location on 10.6.8 server

After setting up 10.6.8 server. We want the location of the home dir to be in a sub folder in the User folder on the servers HD. The problem is any shared folder we set up the client computers get the message that the home dir can not be found. The only way we have been able to make this work is by letting the home dir to reside in the Users folder. Why can I not make it any shared folder anywhere?

In your client Network preference pane you should set as DNS record the IP address of your server. Then restart the client machine. I don't know if this is a standard solution, but for me it fixes the problem.

i adjusted the permissions for this folder. I changed admin user right from read to read/write and added another user, also with read/write rights.

Now the mac doesn`t come up anymore. It boots, shows the apple and the turning wheel and after 3-5 minutes boots again in a loop.
    Any ideas highly aprreciated....
    thx

Attempt to reboot in Safe Mode then try restarting normally.

  • Help trying to locate local server applications directory in configuration manager

I am going through the configuration of lifecycle and I have no idea where the locaql server applications directory is.  Can anyone provide some hints.

I don't know if this will help or not, but with an executable jar file, the classpath is handled differently. All classes are expected to be contained in the jar and external classpath info is ignored. This may also be true in your case if the files are being accessed in that manner. You could try it out quickly by moving the policy and conf files into the jar and dropping the path info.
If that works, you can decide whether or not you want it packaged that way.
If it doesn't work, try unpacking the jar file and running it that way, instead of the executable jar. Again, if that works, you can decide how you want to package your app based on that information.

  • Change project directory for Workshop?

Yes Raj. That helped, it worked!

    Dave,
You can change the server with which Workshop communicates by modifyingthe
Config directory entry available under the Tools->Preferences->Pathsoption
    on the IDE.
In your case the config directory should be c:\
and the domain should be foo.
also make sure you change the port number entry to the one the server infoo
    is listening on.
    Hope this helps.

OK. I added a new domain (e.g., foo) and pointed the directory to one
    of
    my
    choosing (c:\foo). Weblogic then created a c:\foo\applications
    directory.
Ok, how do I get workshop to use that directory for my development
project(s)? When I start if from my start menu it uses the cgserver
instance and when I create a project it creates it in the samples
    application directory.
"Raj Alagumalai" <[email protected]> wrote in message

    Dave,
When you create a project in Workshop, the project will be created
    under
    the
applications folder of the server with which Workshop is
    communicating.
    For
every project that you create via Workshop there is a corresponding
    fully
exploded web application that is created on the WebLogic Server. This
restricts the ability to have the project reside in a different
    location
    other than the applications folder.
If you do not want the project to be created in the samples directoryyou
can configure a new domain via the domain configuration wizard. But
    the
project would still be under the applications folder of the newdomain.

    Hope this answers your question.

  • How do I stop Itunes from changing my library location

Is there just no answer to what should be a simple setting change?? No matter what I do, Itunes insists on changing my library location the instant there's any problem talking to my network share where all of my music is. This is absolutely ridiculous because this is on a laptop and there are times when the network connection is just not up yet, or whatever. Then it takes 10 minutes for me to change it back and let it figure everything out again. Has anyone ever been able to resolve this? I'd rather Itunes just return an error that tells me it can't read my library than to change it on me....

Have struggled with this issue in the past. In my experience, there is no simple, painless solution. I attempted to transfer my entire internal drive to my new external where there were copies of all the songs in place. Check to see how your library is organized on your network drive. Is it by media content (e.g. separate folders within /users/music/itunes/ folder such as Music, TV Shows, Movies, etc.)? Or are the various media types all lumped within a single iTunes Music Folder? If there is a discrepancy between your internal and external Library configurations iTunes struggles to cope. Can't say why this is  the case, but I found that the only solution was to throoughly uninstall itunes via terminal (or using an app such as 'Amnesia'), reinstalling iTunes, and creating the library from scratch using files that are located on the external/network drive. I'm a moderately savvy programmer and I couldn't for the life of me get iTunes to build my library from an XML playlist that I modified to reflect the changed directory location of the new library on  my external, but if you are more competent and patient than I am I'm convinced that the proper alteration of the Master library build would result in a seamless relocating of you media library as far as itunes is concerned. One last thing, make sure you click the 'I'll Add files myself later' option if you do choose to reinstall itunes just to cover your bases. sorry i can't give you a more helpful response--iTunes is a cruel mistress sometimes.
but: Used to introduce something contrasting with what has already been mentioned

  • How to change the storage location in Lightroom 3.6.?

How to change the storage location in Lightroom 3.6.?
I use my internal hard drive NTFS of my MacBook Pro  as my storage location of Lightroom 3.6. being installed in Snow Leopard now but the data of my photos get too big now. I have two fast and big external hard drives eSATA now which I want to use for my data/photos. I know how to copy the data from one hard drive to another but I don't know how to change the settings in connection with Lightroom easily. I still want to watch all fotos on my MacBook Pro but don't want to save any fotos on my internal harddrive any more. Isn't it possible to have the programm Lightroom on my internal harddrive but the data on two times on two different extermal hard drives? If I look at Lightroom - settings of catalogue - I see that the internal harddrive location is my storage location now but I my two external harddrives don't appear as folders. Why? How to change that so that the external hard drives appear in Lightroom and I can watch all my fotos immediately (sometimes using external hard drive 1 and sometimes using external hard drive 2)?
My external hard drives are in HFS+ but I use the software of Paragon so that there shouldn't be any problem to read and write the data (I use also Final Cut Express so my external hard drives are HFS+ and not NTFS).
I want to impert many data from CDs - should I copy the fotos first to my external hard drive and then import it into Lightroom or is it easier to import the data directly from the CD in Lightroom so that I don't have to name the folders two times?
I see that I have to sort the fotos from the CDs in new different folders and an used to do that in Finder of my MacBookPro. In Lightroom I don't want have to click each of hundreds of fotos to be able to put it into the right folders ... But how to import only a part of a CDs quickly into the right (newly created) folders?
    Kind regards, Karin

Would you really leave the names of photos like DSC05271.ARW and DSC05271.jpeg etc.?
What if I name them f.i. like ...
    2013-09-11_Austria_1_mountain.jpeg
    2013-09-11_Austria_2_mountain.jpeg
    2013-09-11_Austria_3_valley.jpeg
I would NOT do this. I would not change the file name.
I would add keywords and other metadata to the photos to identify the content of the photos, and from that point on, I would use keywords and other metdata to search for these photos.
However, let's look at the big picture. I think there are three different methods of organizing
Organize via keywords and other metadata, and not via operating system constructs such as file name and folder name
Organize via operating system constructs such as file name and folder name, and not via keywords and other metadata
Some combination of 1 and 2
You can choose any one of the three methods above, the choice is yours. I am a very strong believer that for most people (and it sounds like you are one of those people), method 1 is the best method. However, not everyone agrees.
There are drawbacks to using file names to identify your photos. One big drawback is that you must type the information into each photo's name, and this is more tedious than if you wanted to assign the keyword "mountain" to the photos, you can assign the keyword to multiple photos at once. Also, if you mis-spell the information in the file name on any photo, you have just made the photo much harder to find; whereas in Lightroom, the keyword can be assigned via a mouse click (so you can't mis-spell it), or by typing the first few letters and Lightroom (auto-fill) will find the correct keyword name. So using keywords is a much simpler way to go.
.. is this much too complicated to do that in Lightroom or even dangerous to got lost of photos?
It is very simple to add keywords, as I explained for this case. Create keywords "Austria", "Mountain", "Valley"; then select the desired photos, and then click on the check box next to the keyword name. It is much more complicated in my opinion to rename the photos in this manner.
There is less danger in doing this via keywords than the danger doing this via file names, because of potential mis-spellings.
If I spend a lot of time in editing photos (in Lightroom or Photoshop) I don't want that I loose those photos f.i. later if Lightroom won't be the software I use regarding the photos (in 10, 20 years?!)
Lightroom will OPTIONALLY write your keywords and other metadata to the files (or sidecar files in the case of RAW). Every photographic application I know of (and I'm sure those in the future) can read the keywords and other metadata. So if you ever want to switch to some other software, your keywords and other metadata are available. you can turn this option on via Edit->Catalog Settings->Metadata, check Automatically Write Changes to XMP.
So I have to create two folders - one with the originals and one with the edited exported photos?
No, you do not have to create two folders. You don't have to export everything, but if you do, you can put the exports wherever you want, including putting them in the same folder as the originals, with different name.
Why not edit them in Photoshop and save them in the second folder which I import later in Lightroom? Because it takes longer?
Wow, you really need to think about: Why are you using Lightroom?
Could you explain this to me? Why are you using Lightroom?
If your goal is to edit the photos in Photoshop, and then put them in folders with whatever custom name you want to give them, then what is the benefit of using Lightroom? You can do all of this WITHOUT Lightroom. You keep explaining that your intended goal is to use Photoshop and folders/file names, and this is a goal which AVOIDs all benefits of Lightroom. I can't understand what you think the benefits of using Lightroom are for you.
It is starting to sound to me like Lightroom is not the right software for you.
Some people want to see a movie on their TV and are able to watch a DVD (not all!). Flickr seems to be a solution for movies in a big size (many GBs) to share them with friends (?)
You haven't mentioned this before, and you should check the rules on Flickr regarding how long a video you can upload.
