Change book layout master
i have searched and seen this question asked, but not answered. i want to change the book layout so that it starts up with the metadata format that i want rather than having to change each page. there must be a way to do this permanently rather than changing the masters when i start a new book.
Without doing a lot of experimenting with this, I presume a workable solution is to create a dummy book that has your custom settings. Then duplicate that book whenever you want to start a new book project.
Otherwise it probably requires using BBEdit to amend the book layouts in the Aperture Package folder and I wouldn't know where to begin with that (well, I have changed fonts that way).

Change book size but keep layout
I am halfway through creating a 6 X 8 book, including a couple of pages I custom designed. I just noticed that this book size is available only in softcover, but I think I may want a hardcover book. I tried duplicating the book, then changing the duplicated book to the 8.5 X 11 hardcover size, but Aperture applies the "default" book layout and re-flows all my pictures! (I am glad I duplicated the book first, or a guess I would have lost everything.)
Is there any way to tell Aperture that I want to maintain the same basic page layout (e.g., if page 3 has 4 horizontal photos, then I want page 3 in the new layout to have those same 4 photos, horizontal)? I know I may have to go through and do some general fixing up, but I would like to avoid aving to re-do the entire thing.As you've seen, your personalized layout won't transfer. The book will need to be redesigned using the new theme.

I'm trying to order an album and I'm getting this message:
Your book seems to have frames on one or more pages that do not contain photos. You must either change the layout of those pages or place photos in those frames before you can proceed with this book.
As far as I can see I have placed pictures on all the pages. I admit that on some pages I could have placed 3 or 4 pictures but I chose to use ony one or two. Could that be the problem?Yes -

The error seems pretty clear - you must have a photo in evey photo frame in order to place your order - so you must either change the layout (if you only want one photo on a page then use a layout with one photo) or put photos in the spots you have not filled

I've been using lightroom since it first came out and published several books with the book module. Today I have come upon a new problem.
I cannot get rid of a 4 photos per page layout. I have changed the setting on the right to single page after clearing the layout but no matter which collection ( old or new) I use I can only see

Customize text on Book Album Master Page?
How can I change the text style of the text in a metadata text box on a Book Album Master Page, other than selecting from the limited choices in the "Set Text Style" drop-down list? I would like to customize the font family, size, and color.
I am working with a Custom Theme (having given up on modifying the existing themes).
I can change the text parameters applied to the text boxes on the Master Page, but those changes are not applied to the text boxes based on that Master Page (even after reapplying the Master). Those changes _are_ "held" by the text boxes on the Master Page, however.
Thanks!With Metadata Boxes, when I select the box in "Edit Layout" mode, no changes made via the Fonts dialog are applied.
The metadata boxes seem to be built rigidly into the themes.
Assuming that is correct , is there any way to add to or modify the styles shown in the "Set Text Style" drop-down?
I have not tried to change the behaviour. There is a list of textstyles for the custom book template inside the Aperture Application bundle:

When I open this file in Xcode I am seeing a list of fonts for Title, Cover Title, etc.
The EXIF properties are formatted in
/Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/Resources/CustomBookTemplate/TextStyles.plis t
Probably you could create a new custom template by creating a copy of /Applications/Aperture.app/Contents/Resources/CustomBookTemplate and editing these files in the copy, but as I said, I never tried this. -
Switching back to Book Layout Editor
As I'm arranging my pictures in my first Aperture book, there are a couple of photos that need a few simple adjustments. For the most part, this means lightening some of the darker, shadows, areas. I'm editing my book in "Split View" mode of course, within the Book Layout Editor mode. If I double-click on a picture thumbnail at the bottom and switch from the Library to Adjustments tab on the left-hand side I can make my simple changes. When I'm done, how do I "escape" the adjustments window? If I click back to the "Library" tab my book is already highlighted. If I double-click the book under the lists of projects in the Library tab, it edits the name of the book but I don't return to the Book Layout Editor mode. My single picture I just made an adjustment on remains on the screen. If I click the "Split View" icon in the toolbar, I get back to the split view of all my pictures in the book but there's still no Book Editor Mode... What am I missing? I can get back to the book by selecting another project (or book) and the re-selecting the book I was just working on from my list of "Projects & Albums", but this seems really klunky. Depending on which project I choose, this takes a moment as well. How do I return to my book after making an adjustment on a picture?
-DougThanks for that. I thought I had clicked on every icon possible already. To get that icon back, though, I still have to switch from "single" image back to "split view" first. Is there a keyboard command for that besides cycling through the views?

[BUG] Upgrade corrupts photo book layouts!
Here's something to add to the plethora of bugs in iLife'11. Whenever I open a photo book that was created with an earlier version, I briefly see the "Upgrading photo book…" message, and after that, all photos are default-zoom and centered at their spots in the book layout!
I have >20 books in my library and a lot of effort went into making their layout just perfect. The problem does not yet appear in iPhoto 8.1.2, I have been experimenting with several "upgrade paths" from iPhoto 7.1.5 to iPhoto 9.0.1 now. It is clearly a problem in iPhoto 9.
When going directly from iPhoto 7 to 9, by the way, you lose all the key photo selections that you have done in your events (>200 for me…), as already reported here:

So if any of you are also keeping their photos in nicely layouted photo books, I strongly recommend waiting with the upgrade to iLife'11 until Apple fixes the upgrade process to NOT destroy any data.Same problem here with all photo books!
iPhoto '11 does in fact display a warning after the update, something like "update successful, but please check before ordering". Well, I checked, and I found all books are corrupted (zoom and offset are wrong as described above).
This dialog however is a pathetic way of dealing with the (apparently known!) problem, Apple!
Even worse, I noticed that TimeMachine backup (inside iPhoto) does not list photo books, so the only way back (after wiping iPhoto 11 from the hard drive and re-installing the previous version) seems to be to replace the whole iPhoto Library manually (I sincerely hope that the photo books are stored in there and not anywhere else - does anyone know for sure?)
There also is no way to export a photo book (apart from non-editable PDF) and to re-import it on another MacOS installation (with an earlier version of iPhoto), is there? So until I find a solution and the time to try it out, I need to keep my pre-update backup of the whole iPhoto Library. And I must not make any significant changes to the new library, because there very probably is no way of merging those changes into the old one.

Can no longer edit book layouts?
Hi, I love Apple's books and have created many in Aperture and iPhoto so the first thing I looked at with the new Photos app was the book feature. Sadly, I quickly discovered they have omitted the "edit layout" option which lets you completely change the layout to suit yourself. So now we are stuck with their formats which I find incredibly annoying - so much so that unless I discover that a) I'm wrong, or b) there's a workaround, I'm afraid I'll be searching for a 3rd party company to make my books. Grr....

RodAs you slide the slider to the left the thumbnail file is reactivated in the window. What you're seeing can be a permissions issue or a broken link to the original file. Give this a try: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Since only one option can be run at a time start with #1 followed by #3 and #4 as needed. -
Change the layout of a query items in BEx analyzer

I had developed a query, so when it is viewed in BEx analyzer the items(Char and Keyfigures) that i had used in rows and columns are displayed in analyzer.
Apart from this in report i can see the items i had used,
in top corner.

You can delete them from Query output and Save it as workBook.Then Open the workbook.You will not see them again whenever you open your workbook.
Right click on result area of output>properties>interaction tab-->enable 'Refresh Query when opening workbook' and save the work book so that whenever workbook is opened,you will get selection screen.

Book module of lightroom changed book format
I am having an issue with the book module of lightroom (using it for blurb)
I made a book chosing the large landscape format.
I completed it all and only when exporting to blurb, surprised by the low price,
I had noticed that it had become a "standard format".
I never had changed the format.
So I made a copy of the book, changed the format.
And in order to do that I confirmed that I would accept changes in layout.
Lightroom did not to a bad job,but
1) some pictures had disappeared
2) some pages templates were not available in large book format (e.g. the 4x3 multiple page)
I started correcting the book again and half way I noticed that lightroom HAD CHANGED AGAIN THE FORMAT
and brought it back to standard format, WITHOUT ASKING FOR CONFIRMATION.
I am now starting again.
Not nice to have to redo again considerable work on a 160 pages book, on a deadline.
Definitely there is something to be fixed there.
If anyone had experienced anything like this, please let me know

Otherwise I have really no idea about what to do.Are you using Lr 4.3? If not, upgrade to Lr 4.3. There were issues with the Book Module in Lr 4.1.

ThanksYou'll have to choose a different theme that has that layout. If you have a advanced 3rd party editor like Photoshop Elements you can create an 11 x 8.5 canvas and make your own page layout to be used with a one photo per page layout that covers the entire page. Others have used that technique successfully.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance. -

My new 8500A Pro Plus changes the layout when I print from the internet. My option is set to "preserve the layout". For example, when there are three items in a row, it will print two on one row and push the third to another row by itself, even when there should be plenty of room for it to print as laid out, and even if I set the print to landscape. This shows in the print preview, and happens when I print from another computer. How can I get this to print properly?

PS CS6 won't open after change order of scratch disk
Changed order of scratch disks for PS CS6 and now can't open PS. Get the following messages: Could not open a scratch file because the disk is not available. Followed by : Could not initialize PS because the disk is not available. Everything works
