Change color depth of shared screen?

I'm using ARD 3.2 on Mac Pros running 10.4.11.
First of all, I'm not asking about changing the color depth when viewing a screen with ARD. I would like to adjust the color depth when using the "*Share Screen...*" feature to put my screen on 10 other machines for demo purposes.
When viewing a screen there is a little slider to change among B&W, Grayscale, Thousands, and Millions. There is no slider or any preference that I can find for sharing, but I was wondering if there might be a plist or pref file that can be modified either client-side or on the ARD admin computer.
I need to have millions of colors, but all it will do is thousands. Anyone know if this is possible? Thanks.

Hi *,
here's a little guide how to patch the Screen Sharing application so it'll allow adjustment of the color depth in full screen mode:

Hope this helps,

  • Possible to change color depth for Leopard's VNC server?

I think it is very nice to include vnc server right into Leopard. But one problem, it seems it will only accept connection from clients when it is set to use full colors. This is painfully slow over WAN, any way to change the requirement from the server end?

Possible to change color depth for Leopard's VNC server?
Yes you can modify your screen sharing application so that you can adjust the colour depth. However you need to issue a command in the terminal to get this to work.

  • Changing Color Depth

I need to change the color depth of an external monitor, but it seems this has been removed from 10.6! How can I change the color depth of an external monitor? Thanks!

You can improve the framerate only if your application is fillrate limited, if it is polygon limited you will see no difference.
But yes often you get increased framerates, but beware that using 16 bit colours will on NVidia mean you also use 16 bit Z-Buffer, which can lead to annoying rendering artifacts.
You have two ways to set the colours:
    1) Change desktop colours to whatever you wanna use.
    2) Use exclusive fullscreen mode, and set colours.
How about rewarding me some duke dollars for that answer? :)

  • Change color depth on pavilion 23

Is it possible to change the color depth on a Pavilion 23?  Can you add software to add color depth? Sorry not really computer savvy! Thanks in advance!

The Pavilion 23-g010 is an All-in-One computer.
As noted, this specific model uses a 16cm x 16cm motherboard (AMD CPU), referenced as Femto AIX,
    manufactured by T&I for HP.
The Intel standard (released August 2012) for All-In-One motherboards is Thin-ITX, (17cm x 17cm), with a height restriction of 2.5 cm (some cases permit height up to 3.5 cm)
Several manufacturers provide motherboards in the Thin-ITX form factor for custom builds by advanced DIY users.
This video shows what is involved, in such builds.

  • Change Color Depth Remotely?

Does anyone know how to change the color depth on multiple clients, using ARD, without restarting? Is it a simple UNIX command?
Example: A student runs an OS9 application that changes the color depth from Millions to 256 Colors. When you try to Observe that machine, after the student has quit the program, the picture is all garbled (ARD has trouble viewing 256 colors).
I want to be able to remotely change the color depth back to Millions from 256 Colors without restarting. Can this be done??

You can if you install cscreen (freeware) which allows you to change resolution and pixel depth via the command line. Once installed (and it can go pretty much anywhere), you just use the Send Unix Command function with the path to the cscreen utility and the appropriate settings. Here's the full syntax:
    Usage: cscreen [-d <depth>] [-x <width>] [-y <height>] [-r <refresh>] [-s <display>] [-v] [-m] [-f] [-l] [-h]
[-d <depth>] : specifies the bit depth (bits per pixel)
[-x <width>] : specifies the width in pixels
[-y <height>] : specifies the height in pixels
[-r <refresh>] : specifies the refresh rate in Hz
[-s <display>] : specifies which display to use (defaults to main display)
use a as the option to -s to specify the action on all displays
[-v] : display valid modes (use -s to specify display or nothing for the default)
[-m] : require an exact match
[-f] : forces settings (ignores safety mechanisms; USE AT YOUR OWN RISK)
[-l] : lists the current displays and modes
[-p] : sets the requested display to have the menu bar
    [-h] : displays the usage

  • How to Change Color of White Selection Screen in BW 3.5 and Higher

Has anyone come up with a method to change the backround color of the BEX selection screen to the pervious blue (or alternative color).  The white backround much different than the old one and we would like to keep the transition after our upgrade to be a transparent as possible.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Custom Look and Feel can only be set at Site, Application, Responsibility, Server, or User level.
It cannot be set for a single page.
Therefore, if you want to keep the SWAN look and feel elsewhere but want to edit the Login Page only then one option is to utilize the .LoginBg style which is available on that page only.
So you can update swan-desktop.xss with the following
    <style selector=".LoginBg .FooterBottomBackground">
    <property name="background-image">url("/OA_HTML/cabo/images/swan/XXX.gif") !important</property>
    <property name="background-color">#000000</property>
    </style>
    <style selector=".LoginBg .p_OraSandGradient">
    <property name="background-image">url("/OA_HTML/cabo/images/swan/XXX.gif") !important</property>
    <property name="background-color">#000000</property>
    </style>
Make sure you delete your temporary internet files and clear cache files from /OA_HTML/cabo/styles/cache/swan... before refreshing your page to see changes. The above should remove the blue images and replace with black if applied correctly.
You can use any images or color you want, just replace the values above.
I would normally have advised making this change via personalization but Oracle has been changing some of the hard-coded styles recently so I think editing the swan-desktop.xss file directly would be your best bet in this specific example.

  • Changing color depth in illustrator

ok my problem is I am trying to upload a file that I made in illustrator but the site will not accept the jpg because it is "32 bit depth". I am using the export feature so preserve the quality of the image. It works if I save for the web but it does not look good at all, and I would like to print this image. Is there anyway you can change illustrator or save 24 bit depth instead of 32???

You need to export as RGB instead of CMYK. Illustrator exports 8 bits per channel, so CMYK means four channels or a total bit-depth of 32 bits. Save for web only exports RGB so of course there’s no issue with bit depth.

  • Can't Bomgar in since upgrade - Screen sharing ... disabled ..unknown display color depth

Since upgrading multiple customer systems to Mountain Lion, I am no longer able to use Screen Sharing in Bomgar. The following message appears:  Screen Sharing has been disabled by the customer client. [Uknown display color depth: 0]
The only brief workaround is to tell someone on the other end to manually change the display setting to Scaling instead of Best for built-in-display will allow a one-time access as that setting immediately reverts back to Best for built-in-display.  Dumbing it down might make it persist, but that isnt' feasible.
Bomgar support is closed over the weekend.  I contacted Apple, and they said that there is no way to make the setting persist.  That rep also didn't know of any terminal command that could be used to set the Display Resolution to Scaled either.
If there were a terminal command to set it to Scaled, that would help much because the Command Shell option in Bomgar does work, and I am able to launch a terminal.
I also tried to see if there were any settings I could manipulate in Screen Sharing in OS X, but there were none.  I am getting the same result with Screen Sharing enabled or not enabled.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

    I'm sure you've tried reading https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57084
    and http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Configuring
    and I'm sure you've done
    aticonfig --initial
I had to use https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AT … leshooting, specifically the part about disabling EXAPixmaps to make my card work.
What model is your ATI card? that would help. A LOT of ATI cards were dropped from proprietary support with the Catalyst driver.

  • Solaris 10 - Changing default screen color depth

    Hello,
I just upgraded a Sun Blade from Solaris 8 to 10. I have a rather old image display application (ftp://east.la.asu.edu/pub/software/pw-5.23.tar.gz) that is absolutely essential for my work, and it will not run under Solaris 10, either on the CDE or jave/gnome desktops.
The executable for this application was compiled using gcc on Solaris 8, and ran fine on Solaris 8 CDE (v1.4.3?) with the "Most colors for applications" color setting in Desktop Color prefs. With that setup, the application allocated 216 colors when starting up, which was sufficient. If the application could not allocate enough colors, it would use its own private color map, which caused window "flashing," but that was OK.
Under Solaris 10 CDE (v1.6.3) and gnome, the application cannot allocate enough colors, and cannot even start with its own color map.
I re-complied the application on Solaris 10 using Sun Studio 11, and the same problem occurs with the new executable.
I think that the problem may be related to default color depth. Right now, with xwininfo, my Solaris 10 CDE xterms are 24-bit true color. Unfortunately, I think that I may need to set my default color depth to 8-bit pseudocolor for the application to run. How can I change the default color depth of the CDE and gnome desktops to pseudocolor? I know that the application works on HP-UX CDE with the default depth as pseudocolor.
I cannot remember if I had somehow changed the settings for color depth on Solaris 8 to get the application to run. I do know that the xwininfo results for a Firefox browser window running on my Solaris 8 CDE desktop was 24-bit true color. I hope very much that this will be the case if I change my default depth to 8-bit on Solaris 10.
Any help that anyone can provide would be GREATLY appreciated. I am dead in the water without this imaging application. I am a member of the Sun Developer Network, and I don't know if I should post this message somewhere on the Developer Forums. Please let me know if I should.
    Thank you in advance!!!!!

    Hi,
In my first post there is a link to the code I am talking about. The code is public and available. It was created by Noel Gorelick at ASU. It is based on having an 8-bit Xserver running. There are few users of this code, but I completely agree with you that a new generation of unix-based imaging code needs to be developed that is system and Xserver independent. Optimal code should detect screen depth and open windows with desired color depth automatically, without "flashing.". That way, it could even run under Gnome, which allocates all but 18 8-bit colors for the desktop. Under CDE, the code allocates 224 colors for itself, which is great. The above code will create its own colormap if it cannot allocate enough colors, but there is flashing in that case. Have at it if you wish.
    Best regards,
    Sparcmaster

  • Color Depth Change/Banding

With iPhoto 6, whenever I try to edit a RAW image from my Canon cameras (.crw or .cr2), the image loads and then after a few seconds it appears that the color depth drops. This results in heavy banding and color shifts.
I was able to edit just fine using iPhoto 5. This problem does not effect .jpgs.
I believe I've seen a discussion similar, with a possible fix accomplished by deleting the Flip4Mac files (supposedly wreaking havoc with QuickTime or something). I tried that but no fix.
This is happens on two Tiger machines running the latest updates.

    Followup:
I created a new account and copied a Canon RAW (.crw) file to the shared folder. I then imported that file into the iPhoto library in the new account and opened it to edit (full screen mode). There didn't appear to be any of the banding/solarizing effect.
Does anyone have any idea why this would be an account specific problem?
I had also previously (the day before) downloaded the latest version of the Flip4Mac software and installed it, with no change to my problem.

  • Screen snapshot color depth conversion

    hi every one,
how can i change the image's color depth (example : screen snapshot) to different formats (256 color, 16 bit, 24 bit, 32 bit) ?
    thanks

Yes, of course screen shots don't prove anything.
I was hoping people seeing these would be interested enough
to do a little research, using some of the hints i have posted
    previously.
But alas, that does not seem to be the case.
To that end, in a few days, i'll post a mini step by step of a real life
editing scenario, using a 16 bit file and layers in photoshop elements.
These will be steps that don't require actions or scripts. So anyone will be able
to try them and see if it suits their workflow or not.
    Until then.
    Be cool.

  • Q10 - I tap the screen to select, the icon changes color (indicating selection) but nothing happens...

I notice an issue that predominantly happens when I use my thumbs to tap but does happen with fingers from time to time.
When I select an icon (say, for instance the lower-right corner icon to jump into camera settings), the icon changes color slightly when my thumb touches the glass, and then when I remove my thumb, nothing happens.
Sometimes this happens more than 5 times in a row.  It's one thing if the screen never recognized my finger/thumb in the first place.  It is a bit more madening when I KNOW that there was recognition (icon changing color) and yet nothing happens..
Anyone else having this problem?  Is there some way to recalibrate the screen?
Right after I posted this message I tried that camera setting button - 7 tries before anything happened with my right thumb, one try with right index finger, then again it took 5 tries with index finger.  The frustrating thing is that the icon to load the camera in the first place (lower right corner)... that one almost always works with the first tap...

I would like to know about , How do change the text color in the variable screen ?
Using web templates (Analytical) can get the output. It has the variable screen contains 6 fields (Company code, Country , Region , COB, Plant and Purchasing Group). I want to make RED color text on Plant. Please help me .
    Thank you ,

    Hi,
I am looking for nearly the same. What I have found is that it seems to manipulate the SAP theme that is used in standard when template is executed in the portal. Just display the source code of the HTML and there you will see the included SAP theme (normally SAP_TRADESHOW). Then you have to go to the SAP portal and change this stuff. But for that you have to know where to find it and what impact this change has.
I am not pretty sure if this is the right way. But as I want to change the standard layout of a whole template to a customer specific layout I think there is no other way in BI7.0.
    Regards,
    Peter
