Change Control for PM content

Even though I have heard some stuff from people before, I would like the experts here to give me some idea on this -- what is the best practice when it comes to Change Control of objects and content between Dev/Test/Prod environments, especially as it relates to Performance Management content (metrics, dashboards etc).
I know that Webi, Crystal, Xcelsius and other content along with Users/Groups etc should be fine, but not so sure about the PM content. Can someone shed light on what is the best way to achieve this Change Control? Some consultants had told us in the past that BIAR or Import Wizard does not support PM content so we have ended up developing everything in Production itself, so there is no need of moving or "promoting" any of that content.
We are running BO XI R2 SP3 on Windows. Any insight into this will be highly appreciated!

Hi Sarang,
BusinessObjects XI Release 2 has the Performance Management Deployment Tool (PMDT) built by the product group, which enables you to move performance management assets (i.e. goals, metrics, and more) between development, test, and production environments on XI R2.
The PMDT is a complement to the Import Wizard and requires the user to follow a precise methodology.
- With the PMDT, you can select which metric/asset you want to move between your repositories. So you can just move specific metrics as needed.
- The PMDTv2 is now available for all the XIR2 SP2 customers (it will not work with a previous version).
- The PMDTv2 is not being shipped with the XIR2 SP2 as the tool is in English only.
- The PMDTv2 is free so it is not necessary for customers but just strongly recommended to follow the training.
You will be able to find the PMDT under the SAP Support Portal:

Go to Downloads -> Business Objects Downloads
In the search criteria look for:
Software product: BusinessObjects Performance Management
Product Version: i.e. XI Release 2
Software type: Utility
It will be listed as PM Deployment Tool.

Change Control for package created in Modeler Perspective

Hello,
We have created a package through modeler perspective and developed couple of views in it.
Want to enable change control for the same so we can transport only the view which has some changes in it.
I have couple of questions on how to achieve the same,
1) Is there any functionality to get this done through modeler perspective itself ? by this I mean we do not create repository and other stuff
2) What will happen if I activate the change control mechanism and make change to one of the view? if any developer checks out the package to his local repository and makes changes , will he be prompted to create a Change ID during activation ?

Hi Vikas, the projects used inside SSMS are not compatible with those in Visual Studio. So unfortunately you cannot open and manage them inside SSMS.
The best practices we recommend are that you do your development inside Visual Studio and then publish the .dacpac file created on project build to your database - you can do this using VS, SSMS or SqlPackage.exe from the command line.
If you do not want to use project-based development but do want TFS support for version changes, plenty of developers use SSMS for day-to-day changes and then use Schema Compare inside Visual Studio to sync those updates to a project and check these in.
This gives you some level of change management and backup support.

Effective Change control for BW

Hi All,
We have a requirement for developments in two different development environments, to merge together in one production BW System. This will require very effective change control process, of managing changes to common BW objects. I have a couple of questions for the BW Gurus.
1) What is the Best way to manage this?
2) Is there a recommended third party tool to manage this change?

If the resources are available I'd set up another development system that only contains common BW objects and is delivered to both development systems. Or you set up one BW system as master development system and create two different transport layers, one directly to test and prod and one 'Master' layer that only contains the common objects and is delivered to your second development and test and prod.
I'd definitely set up a common test system so that problems in development are found out early.
Other ideas:
Create strict naming guides and implement authorizations in your development systems so that it isn't possible to create the same InfoObject in both systems.
Have regular meetings between the two teams to identify common InfoObjects and DataSources early on.
Depending on the size of your SAP environment you might think about registering a namespace at SAP. This gives you a /MYNAME/-prefix on your BW-objects to differentiate the objects. But I'd only recommend it for big installations.

Using TFS and SSDT to manage the change control for the Database

I am managing my Database version control using SSDT tool on TFS, when I have created database project I got file extension as Database.sqlproj.
I am trying to open this solution in the SSMS but its failing as its looking for the .ssmssln. My target is to provide the facility to developer that they can open any of
the data base object from ssms using project and when the alter it will get checked out on tfs and also altered on the database.

What i guess from your requirement that you need to control the field Reconciliation account, some users should be allowed to change the recon account and other should be restricted from doing so? If i am right then you can do that easily with the help of BASIS guy. F_LFA1_AEN Customer: Change Authorization for Certain Fields will do the needful for you.
Ask your Basis consultant to implement authorization's checks against F_LFA1_AEN for this Transaction code for the user profiles as desired by you. Before that do the necessary customization in SPRO as follows:
Define your change groups in the task level menu of Financial Accounting >A/R & A/P -> Credit management -> Define Field group-> Assign Fields -> Groups.
While assigning you can find the field LFB1-AKONT . Your issue will be resolved.

When u click this it goes into Change View "message control by User" Overview screen wherein u can insert new messages and texts and the type of message ....
Now .....
I want to display the 145th message (F4 help of the Message column) ..... it picks up the text "Customer found with same address;check"..... with Online mesasage type 'I' and batch type 'I' and with standard type '-' ..
I want to have the same message with message types 'E','E', and 'I' respectively.......
How is this possible (or) what should i do to meet my requirement :-|

Change Control tools for APEX development

I have a customer who is using APEX and would like to have change control, version, and synchronization of APEX pages...
Basically we are talking about Configuration management capabilities

Well, since APEX is mostly pl/sql based, the other poster's idea of SQL Developer is valid... The other items.... you are on your own for test scripts (again sql developer for the pl/sql required...)
What it sounds like is your are wanting a oracle designer wrap-around for APEX.. Don't know what to tell you.. I would suggest you look at some type of version control system.. Subversion is a good one, MS Source Safe works too...

Using ACS for change control

I'd like to set up ACS server (integrated with Windows Active Directory) for router and switch so that all network administrator could use their active directory account to access network devices and all activities will be logged on to ACS server. Currently we are sharing local administrative(on router and switch) account and I dont have the visibility of who is doing what. The idea is to have more tight change control.
I'd like to have security group set up in Active Directory and have all the network admins within, and have them to use their network account to log into routers and switches. Is this possible?

Change control process for updating the UPK topics

Is anyone using a change control process for updating the UPK topics for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne?
With publishing the whole module and everything linked, I am finding it difficult if a developer is updating a topic and maybe in the middle of it, but has it checked in to the server?
I would like to hear what others may be doing to control this.

Content Control for IPhone

Why can't I set content control for my son's IPhone 5? I was able to set it for his IPhone 4. Don't tell me to use an app because he has figured out how to delete the app so it does't work. He's too young for most of what's out there! You want us to buy smart phones for our kids (because there aren't many basic phones to choose from). I was surprised to find out that other phone companies have more parental controls for the same phone so it can be done. Please help parents out and allow us to protect our children. Sorry, I agree. It will update Style Library and other out of the box ones. Include the library titles in a collection and run the update against them provided these libraries are common across all sites. If not, you will have to first get an extract of
all such libraries in all sites say in a CSV file and then update the script below to refer to the CSV records.

how to maintain open change request control for the transaction MM02 and CS02.
Desired Functionality:
The user wants to maintain a material, bill of material or a document.
On the initial screen of the respective transaction (MM02, CS02)
user enters a change request number.
The system checks whether the object record that the user wants to maintain
is already assigned to other change request numbers.
If this is the case, the system displays a warning, stating that there are
other open change requests for this master data record.
In addition, the system lists the relevant change request numbers.
The user can continue the maintenance or leave the transaction and first check
the mentioned change requests.

but sorry yaar given enhancement is not triggering...
but my requirement is:
- after executing the transaction MM02 & CS02.
- user inputs the data for Material Number and then he enters the Change Number.
- if the given Change Number is not maintained with the Material (i dont no
where/how this two fields are maintained internally), then it has to raise a
warning and it should list the existing Change Numbers for that perticular
Material.
