Change Date of Photo

Someone sent me some photos which I have imported to iPhoto '11. Apparently the date was not properly set on their camera because it shows as January 1, 1980 and as such, is at the top of my events.
I seem to recall in iPhoto '09 you could open the Info window and change the date of the photo but that appears to be gone and the date seems locked in iPhoto '11.
Any idea how to correct the date on the photo?
Thanks,
David

Wow, I need to look a little harder next time. Thanks for the quick respond.

  • Anyone have a problem using iPhoto "change date of photo" function?

I imported some old photos today and need to sent the time on them. I selected the photos and used the "Change date of photo" function. It worked fine on the first set. I tried adjust a second set and that's where problem began. I needed to change the date from 01-01-2002 to the correct date of 05-28-2004. I photo instead set the date to somewhere in 1989. I thought I must have typed the date wrong. So I selected the photos and tried again. Nope, it wasn't me. The date on the photos was set back to some time in 1983. I tried several more time... Well, lets just say I have photos dated in the 1700's..

I had searched the forum and could not find anything. Maybe someone knows where is is.
I fixed the photos the "brute force" way.
I deleted them from the library.
Changed the date on the files on a different computer and imported them again.
However this seam like a crap way to fix a iPhoto issue.
I hope that I don't need to fix the time on any more photos..

  • Changing date (and sequence) of events by changing dates of photos no longer seems to work. Any idea what to do?

I am scanning in old slides and negatives (from the 1960s and 70s), and I want to get the resulting "events" in sequence from when the photos were taken, rather than when they were scanned. So I have been changing the dates of the photos, and previously this resulted in the associated event moving to the proper sequence. This definitely worked a month or so ago, both with prints scanned in on a flat-bed scanner, and also with slides and negatives scanned with a Veho scanner. That was faulty, however, and so it has been replaced with a Plustek 7500i scanner, using SilverFast scanning software, and importing the resulting images into iPhoto. I have recently tried to change the dates of the resulting events, and it doesn't seem to work as it used to. There has been an update to iPhoto 9.1.3 since my earlier success.
Take for example one event, CS73A. Hovering over the event in the "All events" display gives dates of 1 Apr 2011 to 2 Apr 2011; these are the dates the slides were scanned in. If I open the event and choose the Info tab, it gives the event date as 02/03/1973 (which is the approximate date that I changed it to). I had done a batch change on the event this time, so the date and time on the first slide is 2 March 1973 09:30:48. Each successive slide is 1 minute later, and the last is 2 March 1973 10:08:48 (38 slides). I asked for the dates in the files to be changed as well.
I don't know what I'm doing that's different from before. The only things I can think of are (a) something has changed in the iPhoto update, or (b) the SilverFast software stores the scanning date in some part of the EXIF that iPhoto can read but not change. I don't have tools to examine the EXIF unfortunately.
    What to do?

Chris, I have run into the same problem.
    Try this:
Open an event with more than one photo in it.
Adjust the date of one or more photos. The event date does not update.
Delete any one photo. The event date now updates to match the above date change.
Undo the delete photo. The event date stays matching.
Change the date of any photo again. The event date updates now every time.
If you close the event and reopen it, you have to start over with the delete one photo thing.
I don't understand it but it works here.
I also have had the problem of events not sorting themselves in order of the dates when VIEW, SORT, BY DATE is selected. This seems to affect only the events were photo date changes had been made. Using the delete thing seems to keep the events in order.
Another funny thing: When I put photos into iMovie the times in iMovie show as 7 hours off the photo time.
I think Apple owes us an update to iLife!

  • Can't change date for photos in one event?

So i have my events set up to view by date, with the most recent events at the top. But there is one event that featured photos from a wide range of dates. I selected all the photos in that event, and "batch changed" them all to be yesterday's date. Seemed to work, but when i return to Events View, it is a the very bottom of all my events and gives me a date range of Oct 1999 to August 2007. I've gone thru and highlighted every photo in the event and they all seem to have the august 2007 date. I hit "show hidden photos" and found none.
Any thoughts or suggestions? (I'd rather not go to manual view of events, because i like the latest import loading at the top)
    thanks!

    This is (IMHO) a bug.
Once you have the dates correct the only way currently to fix the event dates is to select one photo and create a new event then move the remaining photos to the new event -- it will have the corrrect dates.
You also should report to Apple -- iPhoto menu ==> Provide iPhoto Feedback -- hopefully they are busy fixing a bunch of these (minor) items

  • Change Dates of Photos

Okay, I've never used Automator before and I've always wondered exactly how it works. I think it should work in this situation, but I haven't been able to get it to do what I want and I'm not sure how to proceed.
Basically, I downloaded photos from a friend's camera who had the wrong date and time inserted on his camera, so in my iPhoto it lists that every photo was taken on 3/14/2007 instead of 5/27/2006. The time on these photos is messed up as well, all of them are two hours ahead of what happened in reality.
I know that in iPhoto you can do "Batch Change" to alter the date and time of every photo, but I don't want to change the time of every photo, only add two hours to the time it says while changing the date to the correct date. I figured that this was a job for automator.
I didn't get very far in my workflow, basically just to filter photos which have the date 3/14/2007, therefore all of those which I'm looking for to change. How do I then proceed to change the date of all those photos to 5/27/2006, and then to add two hours to the time that the photograph lists?? Thanks so much for any help!!

Thanks for the link... but one problem. When I follow the instructions for step #1:
    1 Activate the Script Menu
Run the small application named "Install Script Menu" from the AppleScript
folder inside the Applications folder. The scripts could also be run from Script
Editor, but the Script menu is far more convenient. Apple's site has more
information about the Script Menu if you'd like to learn more.
There is no "Install Script Menu" in the AppleScript folder inside Applications. I have only Applescript Utility, Example Scripts, Folder Actions Set Up, and Script Menu. Is this a problem??

  • PSE 8 changing dates on photo

New to PSE 8, everytime I click on a recent photo, 10/2009, the program inserts one from 5/2004 and changes the date on the 2004 photo to todays date. Help!

Hmm, sounds like the correspondence between thumbnails and files got screwed up.
Did you use Windows Explorer or another program to move or rename photos?
Try deleting the thumbnail cache, which will cause PSE to rebuild it, as described in step 5:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Recreate_Organizer_thumbna ils
It could take many hours to rebuild the cache.

  • How can I change dates on photos in Elements so I can control order of photos in album in adoberevel

I have some of my photos in adoberevel albums, and have learned the only way to change the order of those photos in those albums is to change the date or event in my Elements 9 library. I'd prefer to work with changing the photo date, but don't know how. Can anyone help me?
    Trish

Jon, Thanks for responding. I have only the "free" cloud uploads allowed on Revel, so they were uploaded automatically some time ago. When I first looked at them, they appeared to be a total disaster and I decided not to look again, and was happy to keep my images on my computer in Elements 9. But looking yesterday (someone had contacted me about images of my art), I found things looked better. The only problem is the sequencing of the images, and from what I read on a Community thread is that I have to change either the dates or the events. Well, today I saw how to change the dates on Adobe (only did it with one photo as a test), but that ____ so far___ has not changed the sequence in Revel. So, I will close and re-boot my computer to see if that makes a difference, and get righy back to you. Thanks again for responding!

  • Elements 9 changing date of photos

    I have Elements 9.
When in the organizer, the files' dates are not correct. Sometimes only the time, sometimes a day after or before.
    Any idea?

    Guru:
Go to the Photos menu in the menu bar and select Batch Change. In the next window will be several options, one of which is the Date. It will let you reset the date and time for all photos and add a time increment between each so they don't all have the exact time.

  • How do I *REALLY* change the date on photos?

I'm having trouble with this, and I'm sure there has to be a fix.
Let's say I took a group of photos last week. But oops, I forgot to set the date and time on my camera. So when I import the photos, iPhoto places them under April 2004 instead of June 2007.
No problem. I select all the photos, do a batch change on the date, and they now "appear" to be taken in June 2007.
But they weren't really changed. If you view the info for the photos, you'll see that they are still marked as April 2004 for the original date.
So basically iPhoto has set-up some type of filter to show the photos in 2007, even though the computer still believes they are from 2004.
This became a big problem when I imported my library to my new Mac. Perhaps I did something incorrectly, but I had quite a few imported photos that reverted back to their Original date, instead of the fake one I had set up in iPhoto. So my Library was a mess and I had to re-organize my collection.
This problem would be avoided if iPhoto really and truly changed the date timestamp on my pictures, as I asked.
I've downloaded several programs that offer photo meta editing. None of them did the job. They just changed the photo "Date Modified" to be June 2007. But if you look at their properties, they still show 2004 as the Original Date.
Mac OS X is a very smart system. Surely there is some way to truly force change the dates on photos. Afterall, they are just data in themselves. I can't imagine there isn't a way.
Can you help? Is there a work-around in iPhoto or OSX, or a separate program I can download?
    Thanks!

    Jon:
Dragging the thumbnails to the desktop and exporting are essentially the same process, producing copies of the full sized image file. Exporting gives you other options, however. Once you get the photos out of iPhoto you can run PhotoInfo on them and then import as new files. iPhoto will see those new files with the correct date. If you try running PhotoInfo on files already in iPhoto, you can change the EXIF Capture Date in the file but iPhoto won't recognize the changes.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Changing the date on photos in Iphoto.

How can you change the date on your photos without iphoto creating a "range" between the wrong date and the updated "new" date?  I just want ONE correct date on my photos but when I alter the info under edit and i - it creates a "range" date like 1/2009-7/2011 and i just want 7/2011.

If you want all of the photos to have the same date with maybe 1 or 5 seconds between them use the File ➙ Batch Change ➙ Date menu option.

  • Copying photos from iPhotos to an external hard drive, changes the dates the photo was created

I have the odd query where when I copy photos from iPhoto in to any other folder, whether it's on the mac deskstop or an external hard drive, that the 'date created' on the some of the photos is changed from the date the photo was actually taken to some random date. This is sometimes the date that I move the photos and sometime a date seemingly randomly selected between the date when the photo was taken and then date I copied the photos.
It doesn't make a different if I copy or cut and paste each file, and if I select all photos from a single event and copy then all in one go, some photos keep the correct data and others don't.
Most of these photo of of my baby, so the exact date take is very important ofr reference. Current I have a 100 odd photos taken over a few weeks all with the same 'created date'. I have no idea if she was 10 week or 20 weeks old at the time.
Any ideas? It's really frustrating me.

    No
iPhoto never does anything with a photo that is not in its library
Although it does not affect this do you have a default managed library or a (strongly not recommedned) referenced library - (The iPhoto advanced preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library" has been unchecked) which is strongly NOT recommended.

  • I scanned an old photo but the date displayed is today, I want the date to be the date the photo was taken.  How do I change the date of the photo in iPhoto 11?

I scanned an old photo but the date displayed is today, I want the date to be the date the photo was taken.  How do I change the date of the photo in iPhoto 11?

There are two kinds of metadata involved when you consider jpeg or other image file.
One is the file data. This is what the Finder shows. This tells you nothing about the contents of the file, just the File itself.
The problem with File metadata is that it can easily change as the file is moved from place to place or exported, e-mailed, uploaded etc.
Photographs have also got both Exif and IPTC metadata. The date and time that your camera snapped the Photograph is recorded in the Exif metadata. Regardless if what the file date says, this is the actual time recorded by the camera.
Photo applications like iPhoto, Aperture, Lightroom, Picasa, Photoshop etc get their date and time from the Exif metadata.
When you export from iPhoto to the Finder new file is created containing your Photo (and its Exif). The File date is - quite accurately - reported as the date of Export.
However, the Photo Date doesn't change.
The problem is that the Finder doesn't work with Exif.
So, your photo has the correct date, and so does the file, but they are different things. To sort on the Photo date you'll need to use a photo app.
