Change default My Adobe Captivate Projects in v4?

I recently had Cap 5 installed, only to learn that it doesn't use AS2 at all...
So downgraded to 4.
Now, the program works fine as long as I'm connected to my work network, but as soon as I move the laptop to my home network Captivate won't start.
My IS guys and I are pretty sure the problem is that it's trying to access the project cache in My Projects, which is on a work-networked drive.
I found this link to tell you how to change the cache location in 5: http://www.cpguru.com/2010/07/20/adobe-captivate-5-project-cache/
But has anyone successfully relocated the My Adobe Projects folder out of My Documents using Captivate 4?
Thanks for any help!!!

Welcome to our community, Daniel
The best approach (until Adobe hears from enough folks to
change it) is to allow it to create the folder, then ignore it
exists and use your own preferred folder.

  • Changing default from Adobe photoshop elements to Adobe reader

I use both Adobe Photoshop elements and Adobe Reader 8. Whenever I open a PDF document it defaults to Adobe Photoshop Elements. How do I get it to default to Adobe Reader 8? Thanks.

If you problem is that, when you double click on the icon of a PDF file, it is opened by Photoshop Elements and not by Reader, you have a file associations problem. See this FAQ:

  • What is Adobe Captivate Project [Compatible Mode] vs Adobe Captivate 5 Project?

I have both types of files.
Does a file get the compatible moniker if you've brought it in from Captivate 4? Or even if you copy and paste some assets in from Captivate 4 projects (i.e. buttons, quiz screens, etc)
What does it affect? How can I get rid of this moniker?
    Thanks.

I asked an experienced Adobe trainer and he said the [Compatible Mode] does not really affect anything.
We were having issues b/c even though Captivate 5 says it can be published for Flash 9, what they really mean to say is that Captivate 5 can be published to Flash 9.0.28 and above.
We had Flashplayer 9.0.16 so nothing would play. I thought it might have something to do with the files being [Compatible Mode], but that was not the issue.
We are upgrading now to Flashplayer 10.

  • Change language of Adobe Captivate 8 interface

    Hello everybody,
I would like to change the language of my workspace: swhitch from French to English. Can somebody tell me how to do it?
    Thanks a lot!
    Louis

    Hi there
I'm assuming that your other applications are displaying in English, so I'd guess that visiting Control Panel > Region and Language has no effect?
If that's the case, you likely need to obtain an English version of Captivate.

  • How do you change the Green "Adobe Captivate" loading animation in a SWF?

    Hello!
I would like to replace the loading image that I have inserted (below) to something else.
This is the loading image that appears when the SWF is loading in an internet browser.
Does anyone know how to do this?
    Thanks,

Go to Edit, Preferences, Project, Start and End and use the Browser icon to the right of the Preloader to choose another preloader.

  • Adobe Captivate 6 won't open

    Hi all
I use Adobe Captivate 6 in a corporate environment, and I'm currently experiencing issues running Adobe Captivate 6 after installing it.
For some reason when the laptop is taken off the network Adobe Captivate 6 would refuse to open at all.
Error: "Theme file copying failed. Try manually copying Adobe Captivate theme files from "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 6 x64\Gallery\Layouts\6_0\en_US" to "  \My Adobe Captivate Projects\Layouts\6_0\en_US"
I have searched all the "My Adobe Captivate Projects" folders on the drive and copied the contents from C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 6 x64\Gallery\Layouts\6_0\en_US to all the folders matxhing "My Adobe Captivate Projects" but no avail.
Adobe Captivate 6 will then immediately quit and exit; unable to open Captivate..
    Any ideas? Thanks!

There is one major problem / defect with Captivate 6 on corporate networks. Even though it is possible to change the default locations for "Published projects" and "Cache files" it is not possible to change the default location of the Themes folder.
The Themes folder is always stored under My Documents in ”My Adobe Captivate Projects” in a sub-folder called “Layouts”. The "My Adobe Captivate Projects" folder is created under My Documents no matter if you changed the default locations or not. Changing the default location for "My Adobe Captivate Projects" will indeed do just that, and any saved projects will end up in this folder no matter where you place it. Trouble is that Captivate insists on creating that same folder again under "My Documents" to store the theme files.
If you don't have access to "My Documents" when you are offline or disconnected from your network you will not be able to start Adobe Captivate 6 no matter what you do. It will fail and shut down continously and there is nothing you can do about it.
I know this because at my work our My Documents are stored in a Roaming Profile on a server. I do have access to My Documents even if I am disconnected from the network, but we have a storage restriction on the My Documents folder of 100 MB. If you exceed this then the directory will become read only (which also makes Captivate go fubar and not start). Now this is a rather big problem since the Captivate themes folder take up 162 MB, so already upon installation of Captivate my storage restriction for My Documents is exceeded.
So in my infinite wisdom I decided to just delete the theme files as I didn't plan on using them anyways, but it turns out that is not possible.. Well of course you can delete them, but every single time you open up Captivate 6 it recreates the themes in your My Documents folder and once again screws everything up. I contacted Adobe about this and was notified that there is no way around this. The themes must be placed in My Documents and if you delete the folder then Captivate will recreate it again. I later found out that you actually only need to keep "blank.cptm" and "white.cptm" but can delete all other files (provided that one of these two is set as your default theme). That means that the Themes folder will "only" take up 20 MB of space in My Documents instead of the 162 MB. This is of course better and allows me to actually use Captivate, but it's still 20 MB wasted space of my precious alotted 100 MB.
So.. If you don't have a My Documents folder when you are working offline from the network you will never get Captivate 6 to work.
In my humble opinion this is a major design defect in Captivate 6. I sincerely can't understand how such an oversight can be made when you would expect that a large percentage of the Captivate users are actually working on corporate networks. I don't really see the reasoning for hardcoding the path to the Themes folder so it is placed in My Documents regardless of what you set the default locations to. Apparently Captivate has no problem actually grabbing the files from the installation directory and recreating the folder every time you delete it, so it would have made more sense to just make Captivate read the theme files from the installation directory to begin with.
I wrote this article -   http://www.cpguru.com/setting-up-adobe-captivate-6-in-a-corporate-environment/ - back in August about the problems I had getting Captivate 6 to work on a Corporate Network. However, it won't do you any good if you do not have a My Documents folder when you are disconnected from the network unfortunately.
    Sincerely,
    Michael

  • Adobe Captivate Trial Installation Error

The trial downloaded fine but when installing Captivate I received the following messages during installation.  In Windows, windows creates a folder named My Documents.  However it appears Adobe Captivate is looking for a folder just called Documents which doesn't exist.  If I look into "C:\Users\Tom Lansburg\My Documents\My Adobe Captivate Projects\Layouts\6.0\en_us", Adobe had already created and placed the files it is looking for here.  Windows will not allow me to create a folder called Documents without first merging what the system folder contents of My Documents has in it.  I was reluctant to do this since there maybe links to files in these folders that won't get remapped when I do this.

  • Raptivity using MFO in Adobe Captivate 4

Hello,   I have created a interactivity file with Raptivity that I would like to embed in my Adobe Captivate project.  Usually I publish with a SFO (I remember reading somewhere that it is better to publish interactivities for Adobe with SFO)  but this time I was unable to publish with SFO so the help team at Raptivity told me to publish with a MFO - which works). So my question is - does anyone know how I can embed a MFO file in an Adobe Captivate 4 project?  Thanks for any info you might have.   Sandra

    Hi there
Perhaps if we had a clue what MFO and SFO are we might be able to offer help?
MFO = Multiple Flying Objects? Many Faces Organizationally? My Friend Oscar?
SFO = Airline code for San Francisco? Sugar Fried Oysters?

  • Is this possible to hide black runtime dialog box in adobe captivate 8?

    Hi!
This happens in ipad. I am using indesign. I publish adobe captivate project and i take html file in indesign. Whenever i move from quizes article to other articles and when i come back to quzies again then this black box saying " Adobe Captivate, Continue from where you stopped last time? appears which i really want to be get rid off. I will be very thankful if anyone can help me to get rid from it. I found this in object style manager but couldn't figure it out how to turn it down..........

Here's a sample that demonstrates what you want: https://acrobat.com/#d=It35dD4zaX5QM--Pv36F-Q
The buttons on the right hand side would normally be hidden and you can use anything you want for their icon, even though in this case it's just text. You'll have to study the JavaScript to see how it works. There are two functions in a document-level JavaScript, one of which is called from the combo box's Keystroke event. Also, note the export values of the items in the list and how the script uses them.

  • How to change the resolution af adobe captivate

    Hi,
    I have a surface 3 with high resolution (2160 x 1440).
In Adobe captive - the menu bar is very small due to the high resolution
So i tried to modify the resolution of adobe captivate in the compatibily mode but it won't work :-(
In the meantime, i will use the magnifer :-'( but it's not very convenient.
Can you stop my headache ? ;-)

resizeImage does not let you set 'Scale Styles'. If you want to scale the styles you need to use scriptlistner.
Here are examples for "Constrain Proportion" and "Resample Image".
activeDocument.resizeImage( undefined,undefined,300,ResampleMethod.NONE);// change the dpi without resample
activeDocument.resizeImage( new UnitValue(2,'in'),undefined,72,ResampleMethod.BICUBICSHARPER);// change width - defaults to constrain proportion
activeDocument.resizeImage( new UnitValue(5,'in'),new UnitValue(5,'in'),300,ResampleMethod.BICUBICSHARPER);// change both w and h - may or may not matain proportions

  • Adobe Captivate 8 projects published to HTML 5 shows major loading problems and stops

Adobe Captivate 8 projects published to HTML 5 cause major loading problems in most browsers(IE 11, Chrome v. 35.0, Firefox v. 31). Loading… (screen)
The view stops after a while and only the Loading… (icon) can be seen on the page.
Is this a known problem with Captivate projects published to html5 and is there a way to fix it? What is wrong?
Test the html5 version of this project at: http://kurs.dokker.no/captivate/
and see for yourself what happends.

I changed the Preferences/Project/Start and End  Preloader % to 25 and published the projects again. The course: http://kurs.dokker.no/captivate/elev/
stopped like before on one of the first slides, loading… screen like before in IE11.
In Chrome v. 37.0 the course worked badly, would not run, sound missing and buttons not working.
In Firefox 31.0 the course worked to a degree even if the program was advising to use another browser for this content.
In Opera 23.0 sound was missing and else working as bad as IE.
All this testes is done on a PC using Windows 8 connected på internet via ethernet, download speed: 66.57.
I would like to use the HTML5-format since it has a cleaner view than swf-files that appear to be jagged, but there is a lot missing before Adobe Captivates html5 publish is where it needs to be. Her are the complete html5 course and here are the swf based course for comparison.

  • SEARCH function in Adobe Captivate 8 so that the user can search key words within a project?

Hi, I am wondering if there is a way to implement a SEARCH function in Adobe Captivate 8 so that the user can search key words within a project?

    Hello again
Click the slide in the film strip, then examine the properties. You name the slide in the properties. And once you name it, the name should appear below the slide in the film strip, Then when you choose to enable the TOC, what you have there pulls in as shown below:
If you have already constructed your TOC and wish to change this later, repeat the steps of naming the slides. Then click the Reset TOC icon just above the Settings button in the TOC section of the Skin editor to pull in the new names.

  • Open Project .cp in Adobe Captivate 7

    Hello,
We acquired 8 licenses Of Adobe captivate 7. we were on adobe captivate 3. So all our projects have .Cp format. Currently we can not open old project .Cp with this new version. We wish to implement a solution that allows us to convert old project format.cp to format .cptx. I want your advice for a best Solution.
    Cordially

Yeah, wasn't really expecting the file extension change to work - but it has worked for me in the past with other types of software, so I reckoned it was worth a shot. Desperate times call for desperate measures...
Anyway, I know that this was a long time ago. In fact, I was triggered by your question whether I was absolutely sure the files were made in Cp3. So I investigated further and discovered that some of the files are actually Captivate 2... We're talking 2007 here. Luckily, I was able to open the rest of the files that have been created in 2008 through Cp5. As for the one course created in Cp2, I'll probably have to extract the images from the swf and build them anew...
(The reason we haven't updated the courses until now is that our client has never requested this. In fact, we were under the impression the courses were no longer running, but now appear to be still in use.)
