Change default PDF viewer in Firefox

Hi,
I use Firefox a lot for viewing the web and when I click on a PDF file I get the option of either saving it to my computer or opening it in Preview. However, I'd like to be able to open the PDF directly in Adobe Acrobat. Is there a way I can set what application should be used to open my PDF files from Firefox? And if so, how do I do it? Thanks so much.

Georege Orville,
These look like the instructions to change the default viewer in the Finder. I don't have a problem doing this, my only problem is that when I click on a PDf file in Firefox it always opens with Preview instead of Adobe. When I right click on a PDF link in Firefox I'm allowed to open the link in a new tab and then a pop up box comes up allowing me to either "open with <application>" or "Save to Disk". But the only application I'm allowed to use is Preview, which is what I want to change. Is there a way to do this? Thanks so much.

  • Changing default PDF viewer

I need to change the default PDF viewer on a large number of computers
from Acrobat Professional to Reader. When I say "change the default," I
don't just mean the file association; I mean every default, including
    browser plug-ins.
When you install Acrobat or Reader on a computer on which the other has
already been installed, you get a prompt as to whether you want Acrobat
or Reader to be the default PDF viewer. I want to get at that
functionality, preferably by script. So far as I have been able to
discover, the ONLY way to get at that function is by uninstalling one of
    the programs and reinstalling it.
Is there a deployable way to do this? I prefer scripting methods, but
manual remote changes are good too.

I have no choice. This is what I've got to work with. And our Acrobat
software is controlled by a KeyServer, which is why I need Reader to be
the default (so as not to use up licenses for mere viewing of PDFs).
In any case, the two programs do know how to set a default between
themselves when you install the second one, so that functionality must
    exist somewhere, supported or not.

  • IPhone 3G S - Change Default PDF Viewer?

Have an iPhone 3GS. Bought Goodreader because I need a PDF viewer that has reflow ability. I also use dropbox to easily link to my important files. However, whenever I open a PDF file, it launches the default iPhone PDF viewer, which does not have reflow. There are ways to get my files into goodreader, but they are cumbersome. In any event, I really just want my default PDF viewer to be goodreader so every time I open any PDF file whether it be from an email, dropbox or whatever, it used goodreader. Is this possible? Thanks.

Thanks. I tried the g thing and that is a nice time saver. I know about dropboxes' web app to grab files. In fact, I'll use that with your g thing tip. Just trying to save the steps it takes to get it into goodreader from the dropbox web app. Being able to directly load from the dropbox iphone app would be better, but your g thing is quite a bit better than the next best alternative that currently exists. I still wish there was a way to make goodreader the default pdf viewer.. Thanks.

  • A checked checkbox is rendered as unchecked in default pdf viewer of firefox. It is checked when the pdf is opened with adobe.

I am using DynamicPDF to render a PDF. There are multiple check boxes which are checked. When the PDF is opened in Firefox, none of the check boxes are checked. However, when I save the PDF and open with Adobe, check boxes are checked. There might be a problem with the Firefox built in PDF viewer as the built in PDF viewer for other browsers work fine.

Current Firefox versions have enabled a built-in PDF Viewer that doesn't have all features that other PDF readers like the Adobe Reader have or may not function properly otherwise.
You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use another application like the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu if you want to display PDF documents in Firefox with another application (i.e. not the built-in PDF Viewer).

  • How to deploy disabled Firefox as the default PDF viewer via GPO

I am trying to change the settings of 204 Windows 7 PCs. They all use Firefox and with have Adobe Acrobat XI. I would like to know how to use the Mozilla Administrative Template or how to create a GPO to change the default pdf viewer in Firefox to Acrobat XI.

I'm having this problem too, except I'm trying to push it out to 400 PC's with 2-10 users per PC. i need a way to be able to configure it so when a user logs into the PC via our domain login Firefox will be automatically configured to open PDF's from Firefox in an Adobe Reader window, otherwise we have to manually configure it like FredMcD said, and that gets very frustrating after the 2nd PC

  • How do I change the default PDF viewer on my iPad so I can easily see annotations?

I keeping missing annotations on PDF because the built-in iPad Mail viewer does not show annotations.  To limit the keystrokes, instead of  using "open with" on each PDF email attachment to view in a third part app, I'd like to just change the mail default viewer. Is that possible with the current iPad operating systems?

No it is not possible to change the default pdf viewer in mail.

  • The default PDF viewer does not work

I understand Firefox has a default PDF viewer, but it is not working on my Mac OS 10.6.8. When I click on a pdf document, nothing happens.

When you click a link to a PDF you get a blank page, or a black background with an empty progress bar, or you get absolutely nothing at all?
Can you try changing your setting as described in the following article to launch the PDF outside Firefox and see whether that works? After that test, you can change back and try the internal viewer again. [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]]

  • Keeping Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro as the Default .PDF viewer

    Ok,
So with all the new vulnerabilities with Adobe reader, our company is try to stay with the current updates of Adobe Reader.  The problem I am running into with patching all the workstations is that we have a large user community that uses Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro as their default .pdf viewer etc. When patching all workstations with the latest Adobe Reader it changes the default to Reader.
Has anyone had this issues? Or is there away to keep Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro the default when upgrading the Reader?
I'm thinking of removing Reader all together on the workstations that have Pro.
    Thanks

That is the Adobe recommended and supported setup.
Too many problems arise when you have those two Adobe products on the same machine.

  • Set preview as default PDF viewer

    Hello,
I downloaded the update for Adobe Reader and during installation, it over-rode my choice to use Preview as my default PDF viewer in Safari.  I've searched high and low and tried to change this from both Safari's preferences and Adobe Reader's preferences.  Unfortunately, the section to "click" in Adobe is grayed out and will not allow me to deselect it.  I also tried uninstalling Adobe Reader, but that just caused Safari to not open any PDF documents.
Any thoughts on how to correct this are greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Eden

Right or control click a PDF file you already have on your hard drive then click Get Info.
Click the pop up menu next to: Open with
Choose Preview from the menu or navigate to the Applications folder and select Preview from there.
    Then click: Change All

  • Restoring Preview as default pdf viewer in Safari

    Hi,
I mistakenly set Acrobat 7 as my default pdf viewer in Safari and now cannot change back to preview. I tried to click on a pdf doc and set preview as the default, but that doesn't work for pdf files that I need to download.
I reset Safari, and now it no longer asks me to choose an Acrobat to use, but will not display the download, most likely because it is trying to use Acrobat 5.0 that is installed and is incompatable with Safari.
I just want preview back. Does anyone know how to do this?
thanks in advance for your help.

    Tuttle,
    THANK YOU!!!!!!
I was going crazy trying to figure that out. Most of my pdfs (scientific papers)don't print well from Adobe. I have a LaserWriter 4/600 PS that I hooked up to my Airport Express via a crossover ethernet/Farallon system.
I'm writing a paper and really need to be able to do this.
Thanks for the quick reply. You continue to save me.....

  • Default pdf viewer Reader icon in finder shows Acrobat

I previously selected Acrobat Pro as my default pdf viewer. I then changed back to Reader, however in the Mac Finder I am getting the Acrobat Icon. I changed All Files to Reader, but the icon will not change back.
Am running Reader 11.0.2 and Acrobat Pro 9.5.4
Operating system Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5

    Hi ,
Please See the below Steps :
    Step 1
Single click a PDF file you wish to open or any PDF file in general while holding the control key. Then select 'Get Info' from the menu you've opened.
    Step 2
Under the heading 'Open with,' the current default application for opening PDFs is listed. If there is no application listed you may need to click the triangle to the left of 'Open with' so that it points downward to reveal the current setting.
    Step 3
Click on the application listed to open a menu displaying additional applications. In this menu locate the most recent version of Adobe Reader. If Reader is not listed or an old version of the software is listed select 'Other' from the bottom of the menu.  Navigate through your Applications folder to locate the icon for the Adobe Reader application and click to highlight it. Click the Add button to select Reader.
    Step 4
Back in the information window click the 'Change All' button so that all subsequent PDF files will be opened by Adobe Reader.
    Step 5
Click the Continue button to confirm that you'd like to change your settings. Now all PDF files will be opened by Adobe Reade
