Change Default Swatch Library

I created a swatch library in InDesign that I'm going to send to multiple computers and access there. Is there a way to make my swatch library the default library that comes up when I open a new document? I tried loading it and then saving my workspace, but when I open a new document, the default swatch palette is there. I haven't found any options yet. Could someone help? Thanks!
I'm using InDesign CS2 on a PC.

Load the swatches with nothing open, then close InDesign. Swatches are saved as part of the preferences, not as part of a workspace.
For the location of preference files in Windows, see the comments on this page: http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/InDesign/5.0/help.html?content=WSa285fff53dea4f8617383751 001ea8cb3f-6d1e.html
Another option would be to export the swatches as an Adobe Swatch Exchange (ASE) file, although this option does not support all swatch types. The advantage of the ASE file is it can be loaded into Illustrator of Photoshop as well.

  • How do you change default swatches?

Where is the default color swatches file located for Photoshop CS6? I'm tired of constantly deleting dozens of useless swatches; I want Photoshop to start with a blank Swatches palette every time.

Photoshop loads the last used swatches by default when it loads.
If you want a blank swatch palette, follow instructions here http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/WSb2031e05d0354a70-1a6fe757133ae6e6508-8000 .html and empty out your default swatches, click on Fly-out menu > Save Swatches > Give a name for your 'Blank swatch'. Close Photoshop.
The next time you open Photoshop, you'll only see the 'Blank Swatch' that you had saved earlier unless you append/ change the swatches in your workflow and quit photoshop with the available swatch panel.

  • Illustrator 5.5 default swatch library

Anyone know if the AI5.5 default colour swatch is available for download? Feeling nostalgic.
    MHP

There sure was a 5.5, and very good it was.  If you started with AI6, you'll not have experienced the lovely and efficient Paint Style palette (not to mention FreeHand's even more lovely and more efficient Object Inspector). These were the good old days before Adobe's common user interface prevented their UI designers from designing an interface tailored for Illustrator.
I have a dim memory that one of AI5.5's default swatch colours was named "caca d'oie" but I may be dreaming.

  • Mistakenly changed default of library folder via finder...

Couldn't think of better name for topic....
While looking for where .icc files are kept on my new macbook pro late 2013 which I love but must learn (searched and found supposed path for HP while I have a Canon) used Finder and from "home" folder used "change view" to show hidden library folder after all done i instead of clicking close button to close the window I mistakenly hit "use as default" on bottom of that window which allows you to make changes to folder view.
Is it system wide what I changed (the view of that folder)? Or since I was on "Home" folder in Finder would it only effect "Home" folder?
Know Windows 7 inside and out but learning on Macbook/Maverick 10.9.1 has been slow at best (as 6 days a week I am on BootCamp side using Windows 7 Professional 64 bit for use of software that hasn't updated yet for latest maverick.... yes I am looking at you General Motors) I searched and couldn't find a way to undo my actions. I prefer the Library folder hidden. As I can easily unhide it when needed. Once I learn the Mac folder heirchy I can set it up as I do Windows.
As a side note only found generic icc files for printer.
Normally with the drivers on Canon Pixma 7220 wireless the driver installation gives you ability to choose Canon papers which I use exclusively.
I may have to install a piece of Canon toy software I don't need in hopes on the mac installation it will be like windows in its installation of the paper profiles. My searches from both the community and google gave me dead ends. I need the profiles otherwise the prints won't match. I don't use photoshop/lightroom I am a Nikon user who loves Capture NX2 and ViewNX2 combination to work my .nef files. But even with jpegs the standard airprint dialogue boxes/windows doesn't give me choices of paper just ink levels, etc.. Nor does iPhoto which was first place i looked for that.
Thank you for any and all help in advance.

  • Change Default Include Library

    Hello,
We've created an apps global.jsp that will load the version in the /libs folder as well as other custom jsp files we've created.  So the fist include section of all of our components looks something like this:
    <%@include file="/apps/mycompany/global/global.jsp"%>
When we create a new component, CQ automatically inserts the default libs version:
    <%@include file="/libs/foundation/global.jsp"%>
Is there a way to change CQ so that the default include is our apps version and not the /libs default version?  We are using 5.5 Update 1
    Thanks

You will be modfying the file anyway to implement logic better to have in your checklist and modify that include also.
On 5.3/5.4 modify the method getJspContent at location [1].  For 5.5 need to download the bundle [2] , extract modify the file CreateComponentAction.js and install it from felix console.

  • How do I change the default iPhoto library for the Media Browser?

I have multiple Aperture/iPhoto Libraries. When I open the new Keynote and attempt to use the Media Browser to select a photo, the pictures the Media Browser displays are not from the Default Libary.
Is there a way to change the default photo library that the Media Browser references?

    Hello danstat,
Thank you for the question.  The Media Browser accesses iPhoto's last opened photo library.  To access that photo library through the Media Browser, quit Keynote, access that photo library in iPhoto, quit iPhoto, and relaunch Keynote.
You can access the an alternate photo library using these steps:
    To switch between photo libraries:
    Quit iPhoto.
Hold down the Option key as you open iPhoto.
Select the library you want to switch to.
    Click Choose.
iPhoto '11: Create a new iPhoto library or switch between libraries

Alternatively, you can drag the photo in directly to youre Keynote presentation from the iPhoto or Aperture windows.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • Change default color swatches view

Illustrator CS3 and CS4--any file opened has default 'swatches' view set to those cute little (useless)squares--I would really like it to be 'small list' view. Is there a way to do this??

The problem of the swatches panel not remembering its view setting is a bug that never got corrected in CS3, despite its being discovered and reported very early-on.
Editing the prefs file as described in this link is presently work for me:

It is reportedly fixed in CS4. Are you not finding that to be the case?

  • CC 2014 swatch library start up

    Hello all
    Mac user here.
I just updated to CC 2014 and cant figure out how to change the custom swatch library for start up.
i tried opening the Print.ai file from
    applicatons>adobe illustrator CC 2014>presets>en_US>Swatches>Default Swatches>Print.ai
Then added a custom swatch and saved.
Closed Illustrator and also restarted computer
swatch not showing in swatch pallet in print profile document
    Thanks
    Mike

    Thanks Monika.
I followed these directions from another user in a previous post titled " import settings into cc 2014 "
in the finder, he went to the Go menu and chose "Go to Folder..." In the window he typed "~/Library". That is a hidden folder, so you have to navigate to it this way.
Inside that Library folder, he went to Preferences > Adobe Illustrator 17 Settings > en_US and selected everything in that folder. I copied it, and then pasted it into the Adobe Illustrator 18 Settings > en_US folder. I hit to "Replace" the files, and checked the box next to "Apply to all."
Once that was done, he fired up Illustrator CC 2014, and everything worked. Not very glamorous, and definitely not as easy as Adobe keeps promising, but at least it works, and I only wasted half the morning with support, instead of all morning manually reentering my settings.

  • Change Preset Swatches Permanently

Is there any way to change the swatches color combination permanently? I want my black to always be a rich black and not just 100% black, and that goes for my red, oranges and blues. I know I can create a template with color combinations but that means I would have to create different size templates. The problem is that I'm always working with different and random sizes, therefore the template is just a waste of time. Is this possible or do I have to change them myself every single time I create a new document? Any help is much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Dan

The document if saved and selected from the New File dialog should have the same swatches you saved in the document. You can also save a swatch library with the swatches panel fly out menu. Set up the swatches you will want to use and select the Save Swatch Library as AI… you can locate this in the default location or anywhere you want to retrieve it from. Now create a new document, and with the swatches panel fly out menu select Open Swatch Library and select Other Library at the bottom of the list of libraries. When the new swatch panel appears use the fly out menu of the new swatches panel and select Persistent. This will allow the swatches panel to remain. I have sets of persistent styles and swatches which is very helpful in repetitive work.

  • How to change default texts in OSX dialogue windows?

I'd like to change some of the texts that appear in the OSX dialogue boxes.
One example: I have set my Mac up to ask for the password after N minutes of sleep. I would like to change the text in the box/window that appears when the Mac is woken up and where you are told to submit your ID and password (I'm sorry that I am not sure what exactly it says in English because I'm using another language).
The closest thing to what I need I have come across is this:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow LoginwindowText 'Hands off'
However, this applies only to the first login window you see after you have started the computer. I'd like to change other default texts as well.
The default texts in different languages must be stored somewhere. How do I find them and how do I chage them? Any advice would be appreciated.

It seems like the same problem as would be faced by someone localizing the OS, so perhaps there would be something useful here:

  • How do I select a set of swatches (ideally at once) from a long list to create a swatch library?

I just started using PS (CS6) and I added 10 new custom swatches that I want to save in a new swatch library. However, I still have the PS default library of swatches listed (that contains scores of colors). Can I select multiple swatches at once to save them for the swatch library? Or do I need to delete ALL the default swatches first manually, then save the remaining colors in the new swatch library? If so, it makes it a daunting task...

I watched a tutorial on the Preset Manager and was able to finally select multiple swatches to create a swatch library by using the [Shift] key while selecting.
One of the problems was that the swatches were displaying as small thumbnails and it was difficult for me to see each swatch selected (plus, the outline of the selections were blue, and many of the colors I selected were blue).
What also through me off was that when you display swatches in a pane (say, when working on an image), one of the dropdown options is "Save Swatches", which I thought allowed you to save swatches in a library (not just an individual swatch).
Without the tutorial, I don't think I would have been able to figure out the right steps! Thanks for the tips, guys.

  • Change default stroke/fill in existing doc

We have several existing large documents that are part of a book and we are unable to change default settings for stroke and fill. Whatever we try as soon as we draw an object the line and fill revert back to the same setting of stroke weight: 0, color: 0, swatch: none. We can create and save a new document and then go back in and make default changes and it sticks, so we have some knowledge of how to do this. Any help will be appreciated.  Thank you! (CS5.5  7.5.3.)

Don't work with books much, but it occurs to me that Graphic Styles are one of the options that can get synchronized across Books. Try changing those Graphic Styles in your Master document and synchronize settings across the book. (Try this on a copy of your Book, since I don't know what other consequences your Book might suffer.)

  • Custom swatch library isn't updating in CC

I have a big custom swatch library that I'm continually making additions and corrections to. I have it set as persistent, and the library works fine, but it doesn't update when I make changes to it. As far as I can tell, it's still stuck at the point where I upgraded to CC a few months ago. I've tried unchecking persistent, closing the library and Illustrator, then reopening and reinstalling the library, and it's still reverting to the old version.
    Anyone else having this problem?
I've just upgraded to 17.1 on a Windows 7 Pro machine.

    Hi OuraySportswear,
Do you have this library file outside of presets folder? Currently this feature sync these libraries from presets folder only.

  • Auto update colors (from custom swatch library) in documents..

    Hi all,
I searched the forums for all I could, but found no solution for this one...
    So here goes.
Is there a way to use a 'user defined' swatch library to (auto)update colors in several artworks/files that use that specific swatch library.
I know I could reload and 'merge' all the swatches from the library with the ones used in the file (with the same name).
Select the one you want to keep and then the one you'd like to overwrite, merge!
But here's what I tried and what I think should be possible..
I have twelve files that all use colours from one 'user defined' swatch library ['Human'], so all twelve files have the same 'skin' colour where needed.
Now I need the 'skin' colour (in alle twelve files) to be a shade darker...
My idea was to open the swatch library 'Human' in Illustrator, change the swatch called 'skin' and save.... Presto! All twelve files using this 'skin'colour should now be one shade darker...
But this doesn't seem to work...
    Swatches are set to 'global'..
What am I missing or will this be in the 'features requests' part of these forums next?
    Oh and I'm working in:
    Illustrator CS5, windows 7, 64 bit
    Kind regards,
    Erik

As far as I know color swatches are referenced from the file itself, they are not like a linked image that can update all files using it. So, with swatches you have to apply the change to each file. Probably should be possible to automate this with a script.

  • Default swatch palette?

Upon opening a new document in RGB mode in Illustrator CS4, I'm greeted by the Default CMYK swatches palette. Where do I switch the settings to launch the Default RGB palette as the default swatches menu? Thanks!

O.K.... I think I figured it out. It seems what I should do is choose Basic RGB from the dropdown menu in New Document window. When I make changes, such as Raster Effects or Size, the status becomes [Custom] but the Default RGB palette launches upon opening. I must have previously been modifying a Basic CMYK document to RGB color mode in the New Doc window thinking Custom was Custom was Custom You get the idea... Thanks for the help!
