Change destination for Temporary File cache?

I am using latest FCS versions with Compressor 3.0.2. I am exporting a 1-hour HDV file from FCP for HD DVD disk using the H264 Multipass 10.3Mbps setting. I found to my cost that a temporary file is generated which is about 2x the final file size (i.e. about 8.5GB) and this is saved on my startup disk at user/library/caches/temporaryitems. I didn't have that much space so my 30-hour rendering was aborted.
Now I value the space on my startup disk! OSX and FCS has already been hogging huge chunks of it!!
Anyway, my question is does anyone know if it's possible to relocate this temporary file to another disk?
Thanks

No.
UNix apps store their tempfiles preferred on the 'system partition' of your harddrive.
on my setup. ALL libraries (= the Gigabytes of iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie...) are external.. free your int. HDD is best advice ..

  • Change path for temporary file

    Hi !
During an iMovie project, export directly to iDVD fails because the free disk space that is used (system disk) is not sufficient (about 10GB).
It's possible change the temporary file pointing to a external drive that has lots of free space?
    The situation is the configuration:
    - Disk System with about 10GB free
    - External firewire disk where saved the project and imported movie with 200GB free
Thank you in advance for solution.

  • Multiple destinations for one file?

I'd like to have two destinations for one file - ie, local and on an FTP server. I ask because I've had the FTP fail, and can't find where Compressor stashed the render locally. Failing that, can I at least test the FTP connection (like in AfterEffects) before I commit to an hours-long encoding job?

Too Bad compressor doesn't have more than 1 destination, but if you want to find the temp file, the files are normally kept in /var/spool/qmaster , you can reveal this from the finder using the GO > GO TO FOLDER command, then typing in the above path. Of course you can change this temp space in the qmaster preferences in the System Preferences pane to any other folder you like.

  • Space for temporary files

    Hi,
how much of free space should be provided for temporary files. Is it depends on the app's ? If yes, any estimation ?
    Thanks.

How much space is your Other using? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • Unable to save PDF's from Internet Explorer. Error "The document could not be saved. The disk you were saving to or the disk used for temporary files is full. Free some space on this disk and try again, or save to a different disk."

We are currently in a published desktop environment in Citrix XenApp 6.5.  Server is running on Windows 2008 R2.  Users are not able to save PDF's into the redirected folders (ie Desktop or My Documents).  Exactly same issue described in "The disk you were saving to or the disk used for temporary file is full...."  Anyone has any suggestion??

Doesn't proof that it's working. Disable it (as a scratch disk). See what happens.

I just started getting the "Document could not be saved. The disk you were saving to or the disk used for temporary files is full. Free some space on this disk and try again, or save to a different disk" message.
I am running Windows 8. I've seen fixes for this on the Internet for previous versions of Windows on the Internet, but haven't seen one that works for Windows 8. Help, please.

  • Change destination of WSDL file

    Hi all,
I have uploaded a PDF file using SFP transaction.
    1. Can I change the destination of theWSDL file of that pdf file .
    2. How can I create a WSDL file for a PDF file in my server.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
we have now this question in three forums. What is absolutely unnecessary.
WSDL and PDF are does not make any sense. Please describe your business needs and maybee we can help you describe this from technical point of view.
WSDL is the definition file of webservices. It describes in standard XML fromat:
    - the endpoint URLS that can be called
    - the methods a webservice
    - the parameters of each method
    - the type of each parameter
This is simply not relevant for a PDF file....
We realy would like to help, but what you write is making sense at the moment.
    Best regards,

  • Volumes/folders for temporary files

Hello everybody. Can anyone explain how I can choose not only a volume for PS-temp-files but also a certain folder where PS should place it's tmp-files?
Our problem is that C:\ is full, and our admin is not amused to allow writing in the root of E:. Changing the system variable "temp" from "C:\temp" to "e:\temp" is "only a workaround and no solution" in his words. Any other ideas?
    Win XP, PS 12.03, x32

Your admin thinks that you writing files to other disks in your system is something he doesn't want to allow you to do, and he doesn't offer any help in cleaning up your C: drive (or getting you a bigger one or another one)?
Assuming you're telling the whole story, it sounds like you may need a new admin!  I'd suggest taking your inability to work this way up with your supervisor.
Here are observations about how Photoshop works:
Photoshop needs to write scratch files to the root folder of a drive letter on your system.
Photoshop writes some temporary files to the folder identified by your TEMP environment variable.
Photoshop may also, under some conditions, choose another (unspecified) folder, most likely a root folder of a drive letter on your system, to use for certain temporary files (e.g., those with _MVM_ in the name).
You can change the drive used for the scratch files using the Edit - Preference - Performance dialog, but Photoshop MUST have full permission to access the root folder of the drive.  That's just the way it's designed.
You can change your TEMP environment variable as you mentioned, and that can be effective for moving temporary file access off your burdened C: drive for not only Photoshop but a lot of other apps as well.
No one has been able to discover a reliable method of ensuring the _MVM_ temporary files are written to a specific place, though some have observed that if the TEMP drive has plenty of space then it tends to use the TEMP folder.  Last we heard from Adobe here on the forum on this subject, they were looking into where the Mondo Virtual Memory manager subsystem was programmed to write files.

P.S., While you're at it, you might inquire what plans your system administration people have for moving you off your obsolete operating system.  XP is getting awfully long in the tooth.  Maybe you can get a nice new computer out of the deal.

  • Changing names for compressor files, nothing works yet.

I've read different posts on how people have to change the name of the file before compressor will complete any sort of compression.
Happened to me too constantly. So I'd just change the name once I got that red exclamation mark and then it would just finish compressing just fine.
This time I changed the name before I clicked submit.
The name of the file was Animal Control.
But before clicking submit I named it Animal Control Audio, and Animal Control Video for both files.
And I still got the stall out with the red exclamation mark.
This is no good since I feel like I can now no longer rely on Compressor if I need go go somewhere.
Thanks for any solution to my misunderstanding of the program.

I'm having a hard time understanding your question. When exactly are you getting the exclamation mark warning, before or after submitting?
If you're watching the History window in Compressor after submitting your encoding batch, then QMaster writes a file with the name you specified. In this case, when Compressor is still the front-most app, it will see that new file being written in your destination directory, and will put up the exclamation mark ... this is normal behavior.
Also, have you tried setting a different destination to see if this clears up whatever problem you're having?

  • Change destination for sync of portable user accounts

I am using portable user accounts where the home folders are synced to a file server in the network. I would however need to change the destination of home folder synchronization to another file server. But I haven't managed to figure out where the setting for this is.
When the portable users were created the destination was provided by the active directory the computers are connected to. The AD-setting is changed to the new file server, but that doesn't "bite" on the clients. So it seems the destination was read from AD at the time of creation but is stored on the clients. Somewhere...

    Hi Maitreyee,
I picked up the incident you set up with this question, and responded there, but just saw that you had asked the question here as well (which is a good idea).
This is the feedback I provided in the incident, so I'm not sure if you want to get feedback from someone else, but the answer is:
In order to change the ID's and Passwords for those service accounts you will have to uninstall and reinstall BPC with the new accounts.  There is really no way to make that kind of change maunually in our system as there are too many backend pieces that use those accounts.
Also, you'll need to make sure before reinstalling that the new accounts have the correct permissions per the installation document.
    Thank you,
    Dan

  • Change Logs for TCODE -- FILE

    Hi Friends,
Please help me in finding the change logs  for the TCODE  FILE,
i.e  The changes made to the Logical paths
I had tried  Utilities---->change logs , but unfortunately i cannot find any changes logs
But there are changes made to the logical paths in my system but i cannot see them in change logs

rec/client is a profile parameter, you can view the settings in transaction RZ10.  However I find program RSPARAM more useful, the report lists all system parameters with their default and altered value.  Also if you double-click on a parameter you can get to the full help text for its meaning.
The parameter essentially switches on table change logging for configuration tables (based on the technical settings of the table) and has to be set before the changes are made.
    Hope this helps.

  • ? How do you change default for .pdf files from Reader 6 to reader 9

I cannot change the default for .pdf files from reader 6 to reader 9. Also I cannot remove reader 6. I am running Vista

Normally, completely removing old versions and reinstalling the latest version will reassociate all applicable extensions for the program, but it appears to have failed in your case.  There may be something else going on with your machine that is producing this behavior.  You probably need to investigate that.  But what you can do to make sure the defaults are correct is click on the start orb and select 'Default Programs.'  Then select 'Associate a file type or protocol with a program.'  From the list of file types, select each of the following in turn: acrobatsecuritysettings, fdf, pdf, pdfxml, pdx, xdp, and xfdf.  If its default program is not Adobe Reader, click on the Change Program button and select Acrobat Reader from the list (you may need to expand the lower section to display more programs than it initially provides).  If Adobe Reader does not show up in the list, you will have to browse for it.  It should be located in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10\Reader\AcroRd32.exe or C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 10\Reader\AcroRd32.exe.
This method is safer than manually editing the Root\Classes in the registry.

  • Changing Location for Assignment Files

I create lots of InCopy assignments from InDesign. (Using CC for both) For each New Assignment I have to  change all the options: "Location for Assignment File", "All Spreads", "Link Image Files when Packaging". Is there a way to set the defaults for these? I waste a lot of time and often make mistakes doing this manually for each new assignment I create.
    Thank you.

    Thanks,
I figured that out minutes after I posted on this forum.

  • Destination for media files changed unexpectedly

My iTunes media files are stored on a NAS. Recently, for the second time, I have seen (annoyingly after importing new music files) that the address specified for the iTunes Media folder location in iTunes Preferences has somehow changed to point to the default value on the internal disk. The first time this happened I thought that it might have been due to the NAS not being accessible when iTunes was started (though I don't find it acceptable that the address is changed without any warning). As far as I know, this wasn't the case when the problem arose for a second time. Both times the problem was on an iMac running Mavericks. I haven't had the trouble (as far as I know) on my older iMac with Snow Leopard.
Has anyone else had similar trouble or an explanation for the problem?

As soon as I had posted this I found this other thread that probably explains the problem: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18703603#18703603
Any other tips gratefully accepted, though. I still don't find it right that the address of the media folder is changed without any warning.
