Change External Editor in LR 1.0

Hi, I am using a Mac and LR 1.0. My default external editor is set to Photoshop Elements 4.0, however I do have PSE 6.0 and I would like to use this as the default editor. Right now I have 6.0 set up as the other external editor, but it would be nice to get rid of the 4.0 option.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Yes, that'd help!
You can compress/Stuffit the app, then delete the app, as you'll have it in a zipped format if you want it back.

  • Can't change external editor. Why?

I use iPhoto 6.0.3. I have Photoshop installed and was using it as the external editor in iPhoto. I've not bought and installed Photoshop Elements 4 and installed it.
If I Control click on a photo in iPhoto, the only option I still have is Photoshop. You would think I would have the two options to select to edit it but, I can't see anyway to change it to Elements or use Elements.
iPhoto won't let me change external editors.
    Any help appreciated.

I think you can only specify one external editor. It's selected in the iPhoto 'preferences' pane on the General tab. Revisit that window and pick the 'edit photo' chooser. When you pick the Photoshop entry it will allow you to select a different application (PSE4) as the alternate editor. Then you can go back and select the default way to edit and control-click ought to give you what you want.

  • LR 4.3 - Can't Change External Editor from CS6 back to CS5

Using LR 4.3 because of Retina Screen MBP.  Downloaded trial copy of CS6 with patch.  Every time I use CS6 as an external editor from LR, it crashes, especially when cloning.  Want to change back to CS5 as external editor in preferences but it doesn't seem to be an option.  Any way to do this?
    Thanks
    Barry Fisher

As long as CS6 is installed Lightroom will choose it as the primary external editor. You can however have CS5 as a secondary editor.
You do not choose the primary editor it will only be Photoshop, Lightroom will choose the most (senior) one installed CS over Elements and the latest version.

  • Changing external editor in LR4

    Hallo,
Recently I have changed from CS4 to CS6. No when I open an image in LR4 and will do" edit in open as smart object", I can not select this option even the HDR or the pano option. In my external editor there is still edit in Photoshop CS4 instead of PS CS6. My additional editor there I can select my PS CS6 because I have add the CS6 as additional editor.

  • Cannot change external editor to CS5

I installed CS5 and all went well...it was picked up as the external for lightroom and all was well.
However, then I uninstalled CS4 and now elements(which I also have) is set as the external editor and I cannot change it.
    I use windows 7, lightroom 2.5 64bit.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks

I had a similar and some related complications.
I have just just re-installed CS5 again following Ian's advice and the Lightroom external editor preference is now correct again.
As it's possibly of interest to others I would like to mention some possible complications as they affected me:
I had CS4 64 bit (part of Design Standard) on W7 64 bit and also  LR2.7 64 bit
I purchased CS5 Design Std and was provided with a serial number on proof of eligibility for the version purchased.
After checking that CS5 worked for me, I deactivated CS4 and uninstalled.
    1. All of my image related file associations were removed and required manual resetting in Windows separately.
    2. Acrobat Pro no longer worked (serial number/activation) although it had been working with the CS4 suite and CS3 before that. I did run the install again with the new disc that comes with CS5 but I assume that it made no changes and was not actually re-installed. After 3 support instances I was given a new serial number and it now worked again.
    3. LR2.7 no longer found PS as the default external editor for PSDs although my second manual selection to set Ps .exe as the external editor for TIFF files did still work.
    4. I had problems getting ACR and LR edits of DNG files to synchronise.
Some of the complications may be related to the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Ps. Bridge is still 32 bit as far as I know. LR installs only one version of itself, in my case 64 bit.
I suggest ensuring that you install both 32 and 64 bit versions of Ps and then systematically go through updates and preferences to both as well as LR too.

  • Changing external editor

I would like to change my external editor from Photshop elements 10 to Photoshop elements 11.  But I can not figure out how to do it.  I am using iphot ona I-MAC.
    any suggestions
    tim

You don't say what version of iPhoto you're currently using.
In iPhoto11, you would do the following:
From the menu bar, click iPhoto -->Preferences --> Advanced tab -->Edit Photos --> In application...
Navigate to Photoshop Elements 11 and select it
    Close out your Preferences pane
    You're done.

  • Changing External Editor from Photoshop CS to CS5

I've looked through the preferences pane but for the life of me can't figure out how to get iPhoto to switch its external editor from CS to CS5. Does anyone here have any idea? TIA!

In iPhoto's General Preferences use that menu to select CS again. That will let you navigate to the editor of your choice to select it. It's not very intuitive, is it?
This may be preaching to the choir but FWIW:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • How do I change my choices of external editor

I have recently upgraded my Photoshop from CS3 to CS6.  However, in iPhoto preferences (Preferences-->Advanced-->edit photos in drop down) I see only the option to use CS3 as my external editor.
How do I get iPhoto preferences to understand that I have new software available?
    iPhoto '11
    Mountain Lion

Never mind -- I found it in another thread.
    Select Edit in iPhoto.
Reselect the option to edit in Photoshop CS3 and it pops up a finder window so that I can choose the app.
I can then reselect Edit in iPhoto, and my option for an external editor is changed to Photoshop CS6 or whatever I had selected.
    Not intuitive, but it works.

  • Changing color space when opening in external editor

    Hi
Is it possible to have aperture open a raw file in Photoshop in a colourspace other than Adobe RGB and also in 8bit rather than 16bit.
Also I notice that it only saves as PSD or TIFF if you want to have the retouched file linked to the original master. Is there a work around to change this to jpeg but maintain the link to the master file.
    Thankyou

    OK
I understand why, in the interest of maintaining max file integrity that apple restricts exporting to 16bit and PSD or TIF.
However Adobe 98 is'nt always the best or most convenient colourspace to open a file with an external editor. What i'm looking is the option to change the export colourspace.
PS: I'm only looking for the option when using the 'Open In External Editor' option. I know when exporting files out of aperture that there are many more options.
    Thanks

  • Editing in External Editor Has Changed

Editing with an external editor in iPhoto has changed. If, when using an external editor like Photoshop. Pixelmator or Acorn, a second copy is immediately created in the Versions folder (formally Modified) of iPhoto and is used for the editing ending up with two copies of the photo, the original and edited.
If the edit creates layers, like adding text with PS or Pixelmator, the file must be flattened before saving. Otherwise the Save To navigation window appears with the Master/Originals folder as the default location. If saved there the copy that was first created remains just that, a copy of the original and the layered file is lost to iPhoto in the Masters folder. Bottom line, flatten the image before saving if the editor presents a Save to window.
Additional edits by the external editor do not create another copy but are applied to the first edited copy. Therefore, any edit with an external will result in the two copies being displayed in iPhoto side by side.
Previously, flattening the image and saving as a jpg would have the modified version replace the original as the displayed version. just like when edited by iPhoto. No longer true with iPhoto 11.
    OT

OK, this whole thing is a bug I believe. Listen to this. I open a photo in CS5 to edit it. iPhoto makes a copy. I finish editing my photo in CS5, then save. The changes take place in iPhoto like you'd expect. Now there are the two photos in iPhoto. The edited and the unedited. Now I select the edited photo and choose "Revert to Original" from iPhoto menu, and iPhoto warns me like always, "are you sure you want to revert?" I click "Revert" and nothing. It doesn't revert to the original photo.
So if I were to delete the "extra" photo, I've now got no backup of that photo! I think iPhoto is just "showing" us the original backups on accident now. If this is how they intend it to be now, then they sure better warn people before everyone starts deleting their backup copies of their photos. This is crazy.

Welcome. I am using Photoshop CS5 and this works fine for me. Possibly Adobe has changed this in CS6. Hopefully, LarryHN will have further suggestions. Best.

  • Am I correct that Photos does not support external editors? i.e., in Aperture, I click Photos Edit with.... and can open in Photoshop or various plug-ins. Changes are then automatically saved back to Aperture. Nonexistent in Photos?

Thanks Larry. That certainly gives me some understanding. Can't imagine I'm the only Aperture user with that concern, so I certainly hope Adobe and others will fill the void. Without that feature, Photos is pretty much a non-started for me.

  • How can I force pages to update images to reflect changes made in external editor?

I have added a number of (psd if that's relevant) images to a Pages '09 document (drag & drop from Finder) which have since been updated in an external editor.  Pages is not reflecting these changes dynamically, even on closing and re-opening the document.
Is there a simple way to force this to occur, or am I forced to re-import the images and hence have to re-size and re-position them accordingly?
    -M

    Mike,
This won't happen automatically in Pages. You can save some of the work by setting your current versions of embedded images as Media Placeholders. Then when you drag new copies into those places the sizes and perhaps other features will be retained.
Format > Advanced > Define as Media Placeholder.

  • How do I change my external editor in Lightroom back to CS5?

I have Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS5.  I installed CS6 to experiment, but I don't really want to "work" with it.  However, it changed the settings in Lightroom to default to CS6 as my external editor.  How can I change this back to CS5?

    Hey,
I checked with Kelly Castro on the LR team and he said you should be able to save each of your external apps as presets and then they should both be available.  He gave me the steps, too:
    1.  Lightroom > Preferences > External Editing
    2.  Under Additional External Editor, clci the “Choose” button next to Application
    3.  Navigate to Applications folder and select Photoshop CS5
    4.  Set Editing attributes (File Format, Color Space, Bit Depth, Res)
    5.  Click on preset menu and select “Save Current Settings as New Preset”
    6.  Name the new Preset “Photoshop CS5” and click “Create”

  • How can I change the external editor in iphoto?

When I go to Preferences, the only option that pops up in General Edit is Graphic Converter (formerly used). How can I change the external editor to Photoshop Elements 6? Also, can I drag and drop a photo from iPhoto onto the Photoshop elements 6 icon in the dock and do some editing and saving without corrupting my iPhoto library?

I do not remember how (if) iPhoto 6 handles PSE6 as an external editor - in iPhoto '08 you can set any program as one - try going to the preference that has graphic converter in it and selecting it - you probably will get a select dialogue that will let you choose a new external editor
It is not recommend that you ever save any files directly into the iPhoto library - if you can not get PSE6 set as the external editor then you should export your photos, edit them and save and then import the new photo into iPhoto
But I believe you will be able to set PSE6
