I own a iMac Intel Based and I am wondering.............can you change the Finder logo? It's getting annoying.
Thanks,

It's unix -- anything is possible, and often, not even difficult.
I suspect you'd only have to replace the standard Finder.app icon file
with one of your own -- or modify the original. Of course, you'd first
have to figger out how to create or modify a ".icns" file. ...Google it.
/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/FinderIcon.icns
For starters, copy the file to your desktop and open it with Preview.
If you install the Xcode development tools (from your OS install disk),
there's also a "/Developer/Application/Utilities/IconComposer.app"
Sounds kinda promising -- but I've already said far more than I know
about OS-X icon files...
...happy hacking,

  • Can't change Finder icon

    Hi everyone,
I am trying to change my finder icon after installing Mountain Lion but am having problems doing so.
I have tried using applications such as Candybar and LiteIcon but neither of them work and the default finder icon just won't change, even after a restart.
Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone have a fix I could try? Thanks for your help.

Oh no, I'm sorry it didn't work for you!
It took me three attempts, but yes it was the only image I replaced. What I did was made a copy of the original finder.png first so that I had a backup. Then I replaced the original finder.png with my new finder image. I followed this post found here: http://macthemes.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=858576#p858576
This is all I did so hopefully it'll work for you somehow. Good luck!

  • Changing Finder Icon

How does one change the dock's Finder icon in Tiger? I replaced the "Finder.icns" in the Finder file, but do I have to do something about the "Finder.png" in the Dock folder, too? It was a lot easier in Panther...

Here's a two part article on changing system icons in Tiger.

  • Changing finder icon to open different folder

Found this once, but can't recall what I did. Need to change the folder that opens after you minimize it when clicking on the finder icon in the bar. Sorry if I missed the answer already posted, but couldn't find it in a search.
    Thanks

Do you mean you want to change the folder that is opened when you click on the Finder icon in the Dock? If so, go to Finder Menu->Preferences->General and change the "New Finder windows open:" popup to whatever you want. The default is your users home directory.
    Hope that helps.

  • Changing user icons for single users?

Hello all! Ok quick question...I have an admin and 2 standard users set up and I want to change the dock icons on the 2 standard user accounts. How do I do this? I know how to change icons and have changed them before, but when I change the icons in one user account they change in the other account as well. I just want two accounts with two different sets of icons. Any help would be appreciated!!

    Sincerelyme2003 wrote:
Sorry if that was confusing...I mean like the actual application icons. Like changing the finder or mail or dashboard icons.
those are actually quite different. changing Mail icon in the dock is easy. changing Finder icon in the dock is not so easy unless you use 3rd party software like Candybar. what exactly did you do?
But in any case all those icons are set once per computer which means that they will be the same on all accounts. there is no way around that. the only thing I can suggest if you want them different is to use aliases. make aliases to the applications you use Like Mail and put them somewhere in your home directory. apply any icons you want to the aliases. then put the aliases in the dock instead of actual applications. repeat with the other account using different icons.
This will work for most icons but it won't work for Finder and Trash. as I said those icons are set differently and there is really no way to have different ones for different accounts.
Like I said I know how to change them, but it seems to change them system wide. I changed the finder icon on my first account, then if I go into my second account and change the finder icon it also changes it in my first account. How do I get it to change it just for the account I am currently in? So I can have 2 standard accounts with completely different icon sets? Thanks again!

  • Finder Icon will not change! Please help!

I have been customizing the look of of my dockbar on my imac by giving all of my apps new ios 7 style icons.
Yesterday I changed my Finder icon with no problem at all by going to:
    System→Library→Core Services→(right click 'Dock'→Show Package Contents)→Contents→Resources.
And replacing the two png files (finder.png) and ([email protected]) with my new images. Yesterday I did this all perfectly fine and it changed to my new icon.
However today I found a better finder icon and decided to change it again to this new version. However what ever I try it will not change to this new icon.
I have followed the exact same steps as before, I have replaced my two png files from yesterday with my new ones and I have checked and re-checked that I am naming the files correctly, and that they are the right format etc.
I have even deleted my original icons that I changed it to yesterday and emptied them from the trash but it is still there even after restarting and shutting down and rebooting.
I have also tried going to terminal and typing 'killall Dock', it still returns with the same icon that I changed it to yesterday, even though I have deleted them from my hard drive.
Please help me this is so frustrating and have wasted many many hours on this.
    (I am on mavericks btw)

    (I am on mavericks btw)
iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)
Then, update your profile/product info. BTW, I have nothing for the icon problem.

  • Can't change Dock Finder Icon

    Hello Everyone!!
I was changing my Dock Finder Icon recently, and I want to restore it and also change other icons. Before I do everything. I did a backup of Dock.app. I replaced the finder.png and [email protected] but when I do 'killall dock' in terminal and also a restart it was still my modified icon. Can anyone tell me how to restore the icon? Thanks!

    All I can suggest is to peruse https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/ man1/xattr.1.html and  http://gotofritz.net/blog/geekery/os-http://gotofritz.net/blog/geekery/os-x-exte nded-attibutes/

  • Using Custom Icons - Changing the Finder Icon

So I know you can just do a simple copy and paste under "get info" in order to change icons for applications and folders, but how do you do this for Finder? I know this is possible, if not for the simplest reason that one of the downloads that Apple has featured on this site for icons has a Finder icon (bad logic I know, but it seems odd that Finder would be the only icon you couldn't change). The problem is, how do you "Get Info" on Finder? Where would you find finder (no pun intended)?
    Thanks in Advance

Thanks for the help in finding the icon, the only problem is that it won't let me alter it. I even changed permissions on the bottom of the "get info" screen to allow the current user (also the administrator) to both read and write, but it wouldn't let me paste a different styled icon over it. Any suggestions on how to change the Finder icon to a custom one? And ya we were thinking about how we would change it back too, but realized its not really that big of an issue because all our friends and even we have multiple macs, so we could always just copy it back that way.

  • Finder icons change of their own volition

This is not a major problem, but is annoying, so I'm hoping someone can explain it.
I have made no changes to my system recently nor have I used Nisus Writer Pro in a while. Yet, this morning, all my Finder icons for doc files have switched from Word to NWP! Which means that NWP has become the default application for opening Word doc files *without my asking it*. (This is even more bizarre when you consider that I've generally been using Pages to open these files as it loads quicker...)
I have nothing against NWP (in fact, I quite like it), but I do object to system changes occurring for no apparent reason!
Do any of our experts have any ideas on what might be causing this? Is it potentially symptomatic of a deeper problem (hope not)?
    Gavin

    Hi Gavin,
I can't see how it would not be indicative of deeper problems!
What happens if you change them to open with Pages?

  • My finder icon changed from appearence, i cant put it back to normal.

My finder icon changed to a weared appearence. I didnt do anythingh for this. In other account its still normall, bud i dont find any solution to put it back to normal.
    Can sombody help.

    Hi jk,
In Finder's Menu, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to...
    /System/Library/CoreServices/
Look for Finder.app & drag that to the Dock, does it show correctly?

  • 5 Months later, finder Icon changed

About 5 months ago, I changed my finder icon on my dock. I later changed it again and then back to normal. For some strange reason after I restarted after a adobe cs4 trial install error, it changed back to the icon I changed it to 5 months ago. When I checked the contents of /system/coreservices/dock.app/contents/resources, the finder icon was nowhere to be found. So, I found a backup icon, placed it in the folder, killall'ed my dock, then finder, and none of them worked. I then logged out, didn't work. After a restart, the icon was still the same. The finder.app icon is the correct one, but both when I alt-tab and on the dock, the icon is incorrect. Does anyone know how this is even possible, or have any suggestions. I am quite currious as to why this has happened, and I also want to fix it.

    Nope, none at all.
The only thing that comes to mind is that you still had the icon on the hard drive somewhere and somehow it linked to it again even though it was in the wrong place.
You might want to run repairs with the install disk or Disk Warrior or Tech Tool Pro. Usually weird behavior is a sign of something screwy in the directory.

  • Finder questions (changing file icons, moving files, home/e)

    Hello all!
I got my 17" Intel iMac just two days ago. Gorgeous machine, feeling very comfortable. I switched from Linux and there are a few things I can't figure out on my own, I'd appreciate if someone anmswers these simple questions.
    1. How can I change the icon which represents a certain file type?
    2. How can I "move" the files from a, say, removable drive to my local drive? When I drag the files it shows "+" in a circle and copies the card. But i want to move the files from it, not copy. Command+X and Command+V don't work.
    3. I am used to that home/end buttons bring to the beginning/end of a line, but in OS X they bring to the top/bottom of the page. Makes editing documents very hard. Is there a way to change it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Artemiy.

    Artemiy
PHP and CSS files are associated with XCode but the icon is plain whiteOK, I can see the problem. I just created a small file of each type, and both acquired the TextWrangler icon. I then changed the .php to "Open with" Xcode, but this did not change the icon. The only way I could change it was to select another editor (SubEthaEdit) – so you may want to experiment here. Of course, it would then be a pain to have to know two editors!
How do you move the files from a removable drive to HDDI don't do this that often, but if I had a lot I would be inclined to put them in a folder and move that.
Well, this happens everywhere actually.Probably for GUI editors, since they would use the same OS text-handling features. But sometimes an editor will have extra controls.

  • Change Dock Icons on OS 10.8.5

    Hi Mac Community!
For all of us Mac lovers, the one thing we are fascinated with is the fact that Mac in notorious for giving the end user the power to personalize the computer's look and feel, as well as making commands extremely user friendly.
This is not what I get from the last update to OS 10.8.5
I want to change the icons on my dock, as I should being that I am the owner of a fairly expensive piece of equipment, but this seems impossible to do for the Finder icon. Is there any way this can be done without causing any problems in the system?
    Any ideas are appreciated! THANKS!

You want to change the Finder icon or you want to remove the Finder icon from the dock. You weren't clear on that point

  • Change "Finder" name in dock.

    Hey guys,
I'm really into customizing my mac, and I'm trying to figure out how to change the name of the finder icon in the dock, so that when I roll my mouse over the finder icon, instead of saying finder, it will say something of my choice.
I already did this with my trash icon (making it say "recycling" instead just for the **** of it) so I have tech know how, I just don't know where to look to change the finder name.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

come to think of it, since finder is an application it probably simply uses the name of the application to show in the dock. that's how it works with all other applications. That would mean that you have to rename Finder.app in /System/Library/CoreServices. However, personally, I would NEVER do something like that. Finder is a part of OS X and its path and its name are likely referenced in lots of places. I have no idea what renaming it would entail. If you feel adventurous go ahead and try to rename it. Make sure you have a good backup and on your head be it.

  • How to change the icon for print dialog?

    Hello,
I have a JTable, and with the print() method, I'm able to bring up the Print dialog and successfully print the contents of the table. Example:
myTable.print( JTable.PrintMode.FIT_WIDTH, myHeaderFormat, myFooterFormat );This works great, but one small detail I'd like to change is the icon in the top-left corner of the dialog. The icon is currently the default Java coffee cup icon, while the rest of my application uses my custom icon. I couldn't find any documentation in the API or tutorials that Java has listed which shows how to change the icon, so I'm not even sure if it's possible (but why shouldn't it be?).
My question is this: Is it possible to change the default icon in the print dialog? Or do I have to either make my own print dialog somehow, or use a third-party print dialog?
    Thanks

tjacobs01: Appreciate the assistance (despite your sass). I've already searched the API, tutorials, and this forum. I'm already well aware of the setIconImage() method for JFrame -- after all, that's how I set the icon for my other frames as I previously mentioned. However, I want to set the icon for the print dialog called from the print() method of JTable.
How would I use setIconImage() for the print() method of JTable? The print() method returns a boolean value, not a JFrame, so I'm just not sure how to implement what you're saying.
    Thanks
