Pulling my hair out: Change format from date to number format?

I was recently sent a formatted Excel spreadsheet in which to enter my own numbers. The format is date and duration, but the last column is the total number of hours and minutes converted into decimals, e.g. 3hrs. 30mins. = 3.5 hours.
It was going fine until last night when I tried to enter 5:73 as a number, not a duration, but Numbers keeps changing it to 6m 13s. I've tried changing the format from Duration to Number but although the cell will say 0:00, when I enter the number 5:73 it automatically switches back.
The weird thing is that it's only happening on about one-third of the cells. I even cut-and-pasted a section of the spreadsheet that didn't have this problem, cleared the contents and then typed my info into the same lines and rows and it's still doing the same thing.
How can I see the hidden formatting in Numbers cells to see if I can figure what needs to be changed?

Hi Jane,
dragging on bottom right corner but all that does is increase the range, not the size of the actual cell itself.
Hover the cursor over the right of a column (Column B in this example) until the cursor becomes a cross with arrows pointing East and West. Drag right to widen the column.
Or use the Format Panel > Table > Row & Column Size
(You may have to drag the panel up to see this)
I really miss in Numbers is being able to edit cell contents in a formula bar.
Here is the formula bar in Numbers 3.2 after clicking twice on a cell
The formula bar is moveable. Hover over the left of the bar until the cursor changes to a 'hand' and you can drag it.
Resize the formula bar by hovering over any edge and drag
Tricky with a trackpad, easier with a mouse .
Also, the cell contents appear at bottom left of the Numbers window
If you prefer Numbers 2.3, I agree it is much more user-friendly version.

can anybody tell me, how I can change the format of date & time in pages? I use pages 5.1 and Mavericks 10.9.2
Right click isn't working anymore.

I just upgraged to Maverick and tne new iWorks suite, with Pages 5.2
You have to use the Menu, Insert date and time - which defaults to Full mode. Then double click to change each date and remove the time. The challenge is that I no longer have an option for US date formats in Pages, table
I am stuck with UK format as that is where I am and my system profile is
Hence, I cannot automatically enter a US date format for my US clients.
The table cells now default to the new setting.
This is painful
Any ideas?

Can you change format for dates shown in edit bar

Hello,
I am trying Numbers out as a replacement for Excel. But there is one annoyance that I don't like. I have a date column (formatted as a UK date DD/MM/YY).
However when I select the date to edit it the date shown in the formula/edit bar is shown with the month in character form, e.g. 04 Jul 09.
I find this annoying and I want the date shown there as an all digits date like with the value displayed in the cell.
Does anyone know if I can change this? If so how?

It's awful when I must edit a date.
When I reported that, I was responded that it's the normal behavior.
Happily, it doesn't behave this way under 10.6

How can i change the Creation Date of a video (mts-Format)?

I work with Phohoshop Elements 13 an i use Online-Album (Revel)
My Problem:
I would like to change the Creation Date of a Video-File (mts-Format). I don't no why but the date (in Metadata) is wrong and i would like it to change. If i change it in Photoshop Elements the Date (Edit... Change Date...) it seems that the date has changed, but in reality in the Metadata is still the wrong date (see attachment).
Why this ist important for me:
The Adobe Revel (Online-Album) takes always the date from the metadata which is wrong.
Any idea how i can resolve my Problem?

I just ran into the same problem. Except that after a while Adobe will undo the changes I have made to the date.
Here's a screen shot I just made of one of the files.

PJC Calendar setDate Wrong date format. Date change failed?

The calendar pjc I added to my form works except I can't initialize it with a date. If I try to initialize a date it always produces 'Wrong date format. Date change failed.' error.
In a post-query trigger, I initialize the calendar's date using:
SET_CUSTOM_PROPERTY('PJC.CALENDAR',1,'setDate',to_char(:lead.date_received,'DD.MM.YYYY'));
In the java console, this yields:
Warning: Wrong date format. Date change failed.

I get the same result when using a hardcoded date like:

I want to change the Date Format of Date Picker in Webydnpro accoding to the portal users country.
As each and every country has its own date format, i can't create simple types of date formats in Data Dictionary and bind them dynamically.
Even the webdynpro date picker doesn't change according to the portal users country/locale, I tested with different countries for a portal user by changing in portal user profile.

The default date format of OID is something like "yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss .0-0700" I want to change it to "yyyymmddhhmmss.0-0800".
Is there any system property to do the same.
I have provisioned users from OIM to OID.

The default format can be set by changing the NLS_DATE_FORMAT initialization parameter and restarting the database, alter system set nls_date_format = "YYYYMMDD" scope=spfile; and the database has to be shutdown and restarted to enforce the change. It might be alter database instead of alter system, I usually try the wrong one first.
But the setting can be overridden in the client setup or changed in a user session, there's no way to enforce a particular format on the client environment.

[Access 2010] Change default formats for data types

Whenever I import data, the default format for Boolean data types is "-1,0." I know how to subsequently change this format to "Yes/No," but I'd like to change the default
setting to "Yes/No." Is this possible?

I found you post the same question in other place and got the advice. I agree with Mr. Kees suggestion. The data type is a build-in default setting with Access, we can't change it. We may try the workaround via VBA to test.

Format of date and numbers

Hi,
in Italy the format of date is DD/MM/YYYY e the formato of numbers is NNN,DD (DD means Decimal).
I use Excel for IPAD but when I write for instance 28/03/2015 the field shows 03/28/2015, the same problem is for numbers where the comma and the dot are inverted.
How do I change the format of date and numbers?

The general format of the date is tied to the language...use US english, get US date formatting.
You may want to poke around in excel's settings. I know the desktop version allows you to alter the date formatting, but I'm not sure if the iPad app has that. Look for 'cell formatting' in the settings and see if it's alterable.
If not, you can try to make your template on a PC, then put that excel onto your iPad and see if it honors the cell formatting already in place.

Unable to create a billing document , have to change the posting date

                  I have performed the following steps:
                 1. I have created Customer
                 2. Created a material.
                 3. Linked the customer to the material
                 4. Post initial stock for the material.
                 5. Create a Sales/Order.
                 6. Displayed the sales order and recorded the scheduled delivery date.
                 7. Created the delivery for the sales order.
                 8. Transfer the stock from the warehouse management
                 9. And update the order.
While updating the order I selected post goods issue and it would not go ahead because the posting date is not there in the posting period. Where do I change the posting date. I could not find it anywhere. I did not enter the date anywhere.

Here is how MMPV works.
Lets say I am at the end of the May month 05.31.2009 so lets say period corrresponding to this is 05/2009.
Now if you want to post data in June perios 06/2009 should be opened.
Here is what I will do in MMPV
Enter my company code
Instead of using periods I will use date which will be 06/01/2009 (mm/dd/yy format in my example)
Check radio button check and close period
Click on remaining checkboxes.
Execute
The effect of this will be that the previous periods will be closed and June will be opened.
In your case since no one has opened periods after 2006 so may be you will have to repeat this step for each month until you reach current period if that is the one in which you want to post goods issue.

Formatting a date field

I am trying to format a date field so that it shows as 06/29/2005 instead of 06/29/2005 00:00:00. Im thinking that I need to use the Substr function to do this but cant get it to work. Here is what I have, @(Substr(REQUIRED_DATE,1,10)). Any help would be great.

The field is set up as a text field. From what I have read in Help, $date20 is for when you want to make a field be the system date. I want to change the format of a date that is being pulled from my database. Can I use the $date20 function for this? Thanks
