Change from dual ip bridge to single ip server - advice?

Our server is currently as follows:
10.4.11,
en0 - private ip address
en1 - public ip address
en1 is primary ip with all usual DNS resolving.
We run, mail, web, ftp, OD, AFP, private side DNS, VPN, NAT and IP forward for private clients sharing en1 public ip address.
I plan to take the server out of the bridging job and have it only on the private network side behind a firewall and router. I intend to port forward the net services to the server at its private ip address, eliminating the primary ip address and interface altogether.
I plan to make a full backup in advance in case of trouble.
I assume that we can back up OD, pull the ethernet card (or leave card in and change en0 to primary??), run changeip and restore OD...
Any advice or experience would be appreciated.

No, I don't have any special information. I'm just going by my experience when I had to change the primary IP when we changed services from DSL to FIOS with our ISP. When we made that change, we got a new IP and since the internet side is the primary address had to run changeip which resulted in strange OD behavior until restoring the database from a backup.
With what I am doing here there will be a new primary IP too. I assume I am doing the same thing here since I need to change to the private IP as the server machine's primary address now. The server's primary address / ethernet connection is going to be disconnected so it can be run through the router. I assume that since there won't be any connection on the port listed as the primary that something needs to be changed. I don't want to have to start from scratch since we plan to move to 10.5 in a few months anyway.
I don't have enough experience to be confident of this type of change going smoothly.

If you ever need to change from dual to single core you just have to call Apple Technical Support to learn how to do it. Some third party software vendors software dos not support multi-threading. So it sometimes causes a kernel panic which unexpectedly quits the program.

the easiest way: download and install the developer tools. These contain a preference pain called "Processors". With that one you can deactivate processors/cores individually.

The Mac Pro isn't like a PC. It's much more risk to upgrade processors. It is something I would never do to my Mac Pro.
I wouldn't risk it. But, if you really want 8-cores (and let me tell you, it sure is awesome!), I wouldn't recommend doing it, but I have no other resonable options. I don't think Apple would upgrade it for you.

Help in changing from iphoto to Bridge CS5

I am a mac user with an imac and a macbook pro and have added PS CS5. My OS is 10.6.8 on my laptop. How do I set or switch from iphoto to Bridge CS5 to store/catalog my photos? Any help or tutorial would be appreciated.

There is a significant difference between Bridge and iPhoto. Bridge is a file browser and reflects the contents of the folders you point it to. iPhoto uses a central library to store the images in By default this library is hidden and only shows as a Package.
You first have to decide to use either iPhoto or Bridge as main application to manage your photo's, it is very hard to mix the 2 applications.
If you want Bridge for this you should create a new folder or folder structure where you can place the files in. For instance in your pictures folder but it can be located anywhere in your user account.
Then go to the pictures folder on your Mac (best use column mode for Finder windows) and choose the iPhoto Library file. When you use right mouse click menu on the library icon it shows an option called 'show package content'
This opens a new window and reveals the content of the library.
Now search for the folder called masters (or originals as I believe they called it in earlier versions) in list.
If you open this folder there will be a folder for each year you have add photo's to iPhoto.
In here are the original sized pictures nested.
Best way is just grab the year folders and be sure to copy them (instead of move, otherwise your originals will also be removed from iPhoto) to the new created folders where you want to point Bridge to.
After done point Bridge to a year folder and in the menu view choose 'show items from subfolders'. This will reveal all pictures in this year folder and starts caching them.
After caching is done you can choose to leave them in date folders as the have been created by iPhoto or start batch renaming and let Bridge get the shot date from Exif, etc etc. Organize, rename and add metadata keywords to the files the way you like.
If you use Photodownloader to import the new shot files you can point that to the wanted folder to be placed in.
To many options to explain.
Be sure to have a Back Up and you can test what ever you like

Go to SE03.
Go to Object Directory-->Change Object Directory Entries
Put the object type as FORM and press enter.
Then enter the sap script name in the object name.
Run and then change the package.

Just thought I'd post the resolution:
1) Simply changing the Disc Media Type in the ProjectData folder does nothing. The dual-layer setting causes it to change from a value of 4 to 8 (guess that's no surprise), but iDVD still treats the drive as a single-layer drive and so you can't create a disc image based on a dual-layer disc.
2) Turns out the folks from MCE sent along, after requesting it, a patch to enable dual-layer support in iDVD. From what I can tell from the .command file, it looks like it's probably just the HardMac.com hack repackaged for convenience. The don't offer it for download, but if you call or email them, they'll send it.

If this were a project that I was involved in, I would recapture the media at the correct frame rate and rebuild the sequences correctly.
Moving from production, to post production, to delivery is a series of steps, and the success of any particular step is based on having all the preceding steps done correctly.
Shortcuts and workarounds tend to create awkward and difficult problems, that often only surface late in the process.

I'm not 100% sure if I understand your requirement: Do you really want to use an Oracle Sequence, as Alex already demonstrated?
Or just a 'one-time-bunch-of-sequential-numbers'.
In the latter case you can just select level:

You can change the template by running the Getting Started Wizard (GSW). Do note that your configuration will be lost, you will have to export your configuration and then restore it piece by piece, e.g. you can't import the entire configuration
but rather objects (e.g. rules, network objects etc). Then you'd have to verify the imported configuration and if necessary modify it to a working state.
If the configuration isn't to complicated, I'd start over manually. If you go for the export/import I strongly recommend that you test this on a test system first to verify your procedure.
But yes, its doable.

This only worked for the test/demo program. It didn't work for my application.
   For my application i really had to move the logic to the INSERT before the trigger
   - similar to the 3rd posting for my monologue(!) here.
A little step further:

Does oracle have some problem / limit for invoking procedures (functions) from triggers?
Or only if those use certain features?
An issue about deterministic and re-entrance?
Well, that boxes me into a corner.
Because the single package procedure implements a functionality at a central place - i.e. a single central place to extend it or to fix it.
If i now have to expand its content (like a macro) into the triggers of the respective table i am in trouble.
Because those tables (and their triggers) are dynamically generated by a compiler tool of a c++ client.
This means for extension and fixes i need to change, test, deliver and deploy a list of c++ client processes :-(
Is there any way around?
How can i inform oracle that the invocation of a PL/SQL procedure is functionally identically with expanding the PL/SQL functions code into the trigger?

Select user from dual with oid + oss ?

Implementing a solution for global user administration, authentication and application schema mapping, will it break the simple but efficient possibility to do a 'select user from dual' ?
If it is possible which value will we get, a global user identifier from the directory or something else ?

Actually we authenticate user using internal database users. Each user depending on his enterprise role will have a set of synonyms deployed to map the application schema. It is complex to handle a large set of users schema. With OSS it seem to be possible to authenticate user using an external LDAP directory (OID) and to map this user to an application schema switch user's enterprise role.
But I want to evaluate the impact of deployeing such solution, because our application use some 'select user from dual' single query to track user activity in some manner (this can be done using triggers or pl/sql api that do this job). If it is possible to have an unique user identifier in the database session context, even using external authentication and schema mapping of OSS we'll have less impact on the application. Else we'll have to change some API signatures to handle this user identifier.
Context is :
- use LDAP external functionalities provided with OSS to increase user management at an enterprise level ... single sign-on is our goal ,-)
- use schema mapping to reduce our complexity of schema management. One schema foreach role rather than one schema per user.
So, will we be able to individually know which user have the session in the database, rather than the shared schema name. If it is possible, the impact on our application will be really minor ...
