Change from individual Verizon plans to family plan?

Wife and I both have individual Verizon plans.  Just want to see if a family plan makes more sense?

You want to use the Assumption of Liability process to merge two individual accounts into one family plan.

  • Will it cost anything to port number from virgin to a vzw family plan?

I looked and couldn't see this (slightly convoluted) situation covered anywhere. I was wondering if you could help.
I use one line of a 5-phone family plan (I'm not the account owner). I have a sister who is interested in taking over the line but would like to bring her virgin mobile pay-as-you-go number when she takes over the phone. I don't need to take the current vzw number with me, so would there be any charge from verizon for that? Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the reply, Wildman. I guess the ETF was what I was afraid of. She says she did call verizon and they told her the virgin number could be ported.
But to avoid paying anything, it sounds like she'll just have to take the number I've been using and lose her old number. Someone correct that if I'm not thinking right. I guess I thought I might not have to pay the ETF if I don't need to take my current vzw number anywhere else.

  • Automatic Change from Free MobileMe to $ 40 Storage Plan UNTIL 2050???

Hopefully this is a temporary glitch, but as of today my iCloud Account System Preference tells me, that I now have got a $40 plan for 20 GB storage, that will end on Sept 30, 2050. I did never order this plan myself.
I am a long time MobileMe customer and got the free temporary 20 GB when Apple made the switch form MobileMe to iCloud. I did not receive any announcement from Apple about the downgrade to the free basic 5 GB service due for Sept. 30, like it was announced to many others MobileMe users.
I definitely do not want to be automatically switched to a costly storage plan, and I definitely do not want to be bound to such a plan for 38 years. The iCloud system preference lets me NOT downgrade to the free 5 GB plan at all. This option is greyed out, only a downgrade to the 10 GB plan is accessible – but only when the 20 GB storage plan ends in 2050 !!!
Since I am using less than 1 GB, the free 5 GB is completely OK for me.

If it expires in 2050, now is 2012, the plan (as stated) is for 38 years, what did you say?

Even if this wasn't a glitch you wont be bound to a plan for 38 years.
    Why not?
If for the sake of argument a person with the 38 year glitch wanted more storage they could increase it. If 5gig is free and they tack on another 20 for free. How is a person stuck or bound? You cant go below the free 5 gig you cant go to 10 gig you cant go to 15gig. It's 5 and 20 which is the same if your are not paying for it.
So if this isn't a glitch 5 gig and another 20gig are the same. Free.

  • Change from my Verizon pre-paid monthly to 2 year contarct with a second line

I currently have a pre-paid monthly plan plus extra 30 GB data for my iPad2. I want to switch to a 2 year contract with 2 lines and 2 phones, one of the phones I want to keep my old Verison number. Is this doable?

It shouldn't be a problem. Just contact Verizon's Customer Service line and ask that your prepaid account be moved over to a postpaid account.  They will be able to bring over your phone number and should credit the balance on your prepaid account to your new postpaid account.
You can either leave the iPad on prepaid, or add it to your postpaid account, or cancel it if you no longer want it. Then you can start a new line of service for the second phone.  Since you are starting two new lines of postpaid service, you'll have the option of signing a 2 year contract on one or both of the lines to get a discount on a new phone.  Or you can start the lines with your own equipment and not have a contract.

  • Porting a Verizon number from a family plan to a different carrier

    Hello everyone,
Basically, I have a line with Verizon under a family plan, I am not the owner of that plan, but I am looking to port my number to T-mobile since I don't think that the price-service ratio is not fair for the mediocre service that I get.
I was wondering if I would be able to port my number even if I am not the owner of the family plan. I only have a few months left until the contract terminates, and I am willing to pay the ETF.
I also wanted to know if the owner would have to be involved during the porting process, since I would not like to bother the plan owner to complete this action.
Lastly, my billing cycle ends the 26th of each month, when do you think I should start the process in order to not pay the bill for the following month?
Thank you very much for your help, I greatly appreciate all your responses and I apologize in advanced for the amount of questions, but I am new to this and just want the entire process to go as smooth as possible.
    Thanks again.

  • Verizon's Long Term Plan

I am writing to try and save Verizon from themselves. I have had a Verizon Wireless Account for almost as many years as there has been a Verizon Wireless. I used to have four lines but a couple years ago my son decided he wanted an iPhone and at that time Verizon did not have a phone that could compete. I tried to persuade him to stay with Verizon on our Family Plan but he was determined to have the iPhone so he is now and AT&T customer. Even though I was paying for his phone service he was willing to take on the expense of his own account to have the iPhone. Now my daughter wants an iPhone but I was able to convince her that the Android HTC Incredible would be almost as good as the iPhone with better coverage and she could stay on my plan. She agreed to stay with Verizon and was willing to wait for the back ordered Incredible. When I tried to order the phone and upgrade my service I was told I would have to pay retail for the phone ($500.00!) which is not an option for me. I am not due for any "Upgrade" pricing but since I would be changing my plan and, of course, agreeing to a 2 year committment, I assumed that I would at least get a discount on the price of the phone.I was told this would not be the case.
So Verizon is losing my daughter as a customer. I will have to take a hit on my account because my contract goes through 6/02/11. But Verizon will take a bigger hit because my daughter is 27 years old and would have probably continued to be a Verizon customer for the foreseeable future. I am 60 so my foreseeable future is not nearly as long. And I am not sure if I want to stay with Verizon either. I have a land line (unlike my daughter and son) and I do use my cellphone for making calls (which my kids do not do so much) but even though I enjoy the better signal coverage of Verizon I don't enjoy being taken advantage of. I have been a loyal customer but I would like to think that my loyalty was appreciated by Verizon.
Most importantly, I think the short term profit that Verizon may be making on this decision will be far outweighed by the long term losses on the many young customers who are leaving Verizon. I have tried to keep two customers for Verizon but apparently Verizon does not want or need them. I believe that Verizon will someday regret this policy.

I asked to be allowed to do this and I was told I could not. This would have been an acceptable but it was not an option. By the way, the last phone I got from Verizon Wireless (Samsung Convoy) I paid full price on because I was not due for a new phone then either. I bought it to replace an LG phone that had difficult to use voice dialing. The Samsung Convoy was not functioning properly and even though I had paid full price and the defects were apparent soon after I bought it, I had to accept a "refurbished" phone as a replacement. In fact I now am aware that if you buy any Verizon cellphone and it is defective you will recieve a refurb when you get any exchange at all. (And they are pretty sneaky about this process, I might add.)
I'm pretty sure Verizon is doing ok on recouping on their hardware.
Anyway, the point is that I think it is short-sighted for Verizon to be churlish about selling smartphones to previously non-smartphone customers. Just bad business.

  • Cheapest way to add a line, family plan or 2nd line?

One more post & then I will shut up. Being that Im new to Verizon & a person who doesn't want to spend more on my cell phone bill then my car payment, can you give me a realistic quote on what my cell phone bill will be if I were to add a line or get a family plan?  I was informed by Verizon that my bill was going to be x amount of dollars & I get the bill & its way higher then I ever thought it would be, so basically for 1 phone, the droid, Im paying $120.00 per month, & was informed my bill after taxes would be around $100.00? Needless to say I now wish to get a 2nd line added, as my 16 year old son needs a phone. I was told by verizon that I would have to keep the phone that I bought as the main phone for my account, which was fine as this would be the phone that I was going to give to my son. Then I asked if I could dump the data plan on the main phone, I was told no by verizon, ugh. Basically can someone give me some advise on how to go about making it as cheap as possible for me to have 2 phones both with data plans? Family plan or add a 2nd line?

It will depend on what the second line is. If you are going to get the other Droid you mention in your other post, you would add it under a family plan, but with Verizon data is not combined in a family plan. Each phone would have its own data plan.
Since one is a Droid that is $29.99/month for data and if you get the 2nd Droid, that is an add'l $29.99/month for that phone.
Will you have text added also to both? That can be done through  combined  addon. Go here to determine your appoximate cost BEFORE taxes and fees and such.
Also, your first month bill is ALWAYS higher due to the proration of the current month you are in. Basically the first bill covers the line fees for NEXT month and whatever days are left in the billing period for the month you began service.

  • Moving from Family Plan to Individual

I've gone to three different Verizon Stores and have been given three different answers - none of which are helpful.  Maybe someone could give me an answer here?
I am currently on my family's shared plan, and I want to switch to an individual plan and upgrade to a Droid 2 (aka much higher payment and more expensive phone).  But I am not eligible for an upgrade until May 2011.
The first employee I talked to told me that this cannot be done, unless I agreed to pay full retail price for the phone with a new contract.
The second employee told me that this could be done at new 2 year contract price, but I would have to get a different number.
The third told me that if changed to an individual plan on my current phone, gaining financial responsibility of my account, then I may be eligible for an upgrade to a smartphone early.
I just can't believe that Verizon is unwilling to help, when I'm trying to spend more money with them!
If anyone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated!

The first employee I talked to told me that this cannot be done, unless I agreed to pay full retail price for the phone with a new contract. If you are not eligible for an upgrade till May 2011, then what the rep said is correct -  to upgrade through Verizon you would pay full price for the Droid 2.
The second employee told me that this could be done at new 2 year contract price, but I would have to get a different number. Also correct - you do nothing with the family plan, leave your line there (let someone else have that phone and number) and start your own account with anew number, and a discounted Droid 2.
The third told me that if changed to an individual plan on my current phone, gaining financial responsibility of my account, then I may be eligible for an upgrade to a smartphone early. Also true...

Not sure what you want to hear...all that the reps told you are options for you.

  • From individual to family plan (one phone from Amazon wireless, the other an Iphone)

    Alright, stay with me here.
My fiance and I are currently on separate family plans with our respective parents.  We are about to start our own plan together, but her family's contract ends a few months after mine.
I want to get the HTC incredible 2 from Amazon wireless.  I would have to start an individual plan because she's not ready to switch over.
She wants to get an Iphone, which you can't get through Amazon wireless.  We'd have to go to Verizon, best buy, etc.
Can we easily go from having me on an individual plan to a family plan?  And would she still get the rebate for the Iphone (making it only $200)?
    Thank you.

Do you want to keep your current phone numbers?  If so, you will need to do an Assumption of Liability for each line to transfer them from their current account into your name.  It's a simple process, and free, you just call or visit a Verizon store with the current account owner and do the paperwork.  Verizon will do a credit check, and you may have to pay a deposit.
If you do an AoL, your contract end date stays the same, and you keep your current number.  You could do an AoL now, upgrade your phone when it is eligible, and then move your wife's phone over whenever you're ready (with another AoL).  You don't have to wait for the contract to end.  Doing an AoL and starting a Family Share plan with the transferred line is also easy, they can probably take care of it for you at the same time.
Each line on your plan will have its own contract, so if you want to upgrade at different times and/or at different places, you can do that.

  • How to move from one family plan to another within Verizon?

My son currently is part of one family plan we have which is for non-smart phones.  It is a really old plan and a really old phone.  I also have another family plan (share everything) for my Galaxy S3 (no other people on that share everything plan yet).  Here is what I want to do:
    1) get him a new Galaxy S4 through Amazon
    2) put him on my share everything plan (share my data, and pay $40/mo for phone service)
    3) but keep his existing number.
Is that possible?  It does not seem possible using the Amazon online system.  When I try to add another line of service on my Share Everything plan and port his number, it says not possible to port from Verizon to Verizon.  Do I have to leave Verizon and go to ATT in order to port numbers?

You will probably have to call customer service and get their help transferring the line between the two accounts. Are both accounts listing you as the account owner?
If they have two different account owners you will probably have to do an Assumption of Liability instead.

  • Change from one family plan to another?

An ex-girlfriend who is on our family plan has been great about paying her portion of the bill is now thinking about moving out of state. If the people she is moving in with have Verizon can she switch family plans to theirs without penalty?

Simple answer is yes, You will have to agree for her to leave and that family needs to agree to add her. If they do not, she would have to get her own individual plan

  • Change from Family Plan to Single Plan

I have a family plan with 2 lines.  Mine is the primary line, but we have about a year and a half left on our contract.  I need to change my plan so that I do not have the family plan anymore, and just keep my own line.  My question is, will I be charged extra fees to drop a line, will my bill go down or stay the same, and will I lose my unlimited data?

Both lines started a new contract about 6 months ago?  (that's how I read we have about a year and a half left on our contract)  Is there someone who is to take over the second line?  If you got two discounted phones 6 months ago, then both lines are under contract.  There will be an ETF on the line you cancel - $350 less ~$60 if it is a smartphone, $175 less ~$30 if it is a basic phone that was purchased initially.
I don't know what your plan is now, or what you might change it to, so I have no idea if the bill will go up or down.   You said you have unlimited data now, so you must have had the plan prior to this recent upgrade.... however, if you change plans (and dropping a line and switching to an individual plan will be a plan change) then it's likely the unlimited data will not carry over to the new plan.
Each line has it's own contract and upgrade eligibility.  Call #UPG on each phone to see when each line is eligible for an upgrade and when the contract ends for that line (or log on to MyVerizon as the account owner and view the information for each line there)
Post back if you have further questions - you really didn't provide enough information to give you a more definite answer.
