Change Full Name in Macmail

I put ICloud Account in the Full Name field under Account so now people receiving my emails get it from ICloud Account instead of me.  When I tried to change it to my name, I get an error message saying Incoming Server can't be blank. It's not blank and has nothing to do with this.  How do I fix this?

I had the same question, and found the answer here:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57509815-263/how-to-change-your-icloud-mail -full-name/
Basically,
Log into icloud.com
Click on the Mail icon
Click on the Settings gear (top right), and pick "Preferences..."
Click on Accounts
Edit the Full Name
Click Done
The change should automatically propagate to your OS X machines and iOS devices.

  • Changing Full Name

I am trying to change the "Full Name" under Users and Groups. When I type in my actual full name, it says "Name is used by another User. So I had to enter another name that I do not want to use.
FYI,  In the left column, the only user is the one I described above and Guest User which says OFF. How can I change "Full Name " to what I want it to be?
    Thanks!

When I type in my actual full name, it says "Name is used by another User. That means that your name already exists on the system (probably from a previous installation)
Back up all data. You must be sure that you can restore everything.
You can use the utility "dscl" (directory services command line utility) to make modifications to the system directory, including finding out that your  chosen name is already in the system  and " used by another User.".  With this utility, first confirm that the directory contains the  entry for the "another User"  that has the account username you want to use, by running the following in the Terminal:
    sudo dscl . list /Users
With this command entered, the utility will ask you for your password, and then will output a list of all the users on the system.
You will see a number of them with underscores before their names; ignore these, as they are system accounts for running various services.
At the end of the list you will see the local usernames listed, so confirm that the home name you noted earlier is present before moving to the next step.
With the account name confirmed, now you can remove the s account directory entry from your system by running the following command in the Terminal:
    sudo dscl . delete /Users/ACCOUNT
In this command, replace the word "ACCOUNT" with the account name you found and confirmed in the previous Step .
After the account is removed, the user's home folder will still be on the disk in the /Macintosh HD/Users directory.  You can use the directory as the home folder. Doing this will refresh the account on the system, which may fix the account if errors were just in the directory entry for it and not in the account's home folder itself. To re-create the account and use the existing home folder, leave the folder on disk, and then go to the Accounts System Preferences and create a new account. Use the same name as the previous account (it should be the same name as the home folder), and when you do this the system will detect that a folder with this name exists on the system. It will ask you if you would like to use the existing home folder, and if you do so then all the previous account setting and data will be associated with the new account.

  • How to change "Full Name" in iCloud IMAP mail account information

Brand new to this forum so please excuse any newbieisms. I am running OS X 10.7.5 I created an iCloud IMAP mail account so that I can sync with my iPhone.
Windows Live is my original mail account. All is good except the "Full Name" in "Accounts" preferernces is somehow incorrect. When I send mail frm my Mac, this incorrect name shows in the "From" field. Mail sent from my iPhone shows my correct name as it appears in my phone cloud settings. The name doesn't sync in iCloud. All other syncing is good. When I try to change it manually in my Mac mail preferences, I get the message "the"Incoming Mail Server" field can not be empty" when I try to save the changes. The aforementioned field is not empty and is in fact greyed out as this was self populated upon creation of the account. I can't even change the case sensitivity of the name or I get the message. As a stop gap I have created an alias to send mail with, but would like a proper fix. Any ideas?

If you created a new iCloud account it would have a new associated iCloud email account.  You wouldn't be able to move your current @icloud.com address to the new account.
Just to double-check, after quitting (Command-Q) and re-opening Mail, did you start an new message and click the down-arrow next to From to see if the new sender name was available from the drop-down list (see image below)?  If so, you might try signing out of iCloud entirely.  To do this, go to System Preferences>iCloud, click Sign Out, choose Delete at all of the prompts, restart your Mac, then sign back in and test Mail again.  (This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your Mac, but not from iCloud.  Your iCloud data will reappear on your Mac when you sign back in.)

  • Changing Full Name in System Preferences... Any issues?

    Hey all,
Recently set up a new Mac on Mountain Lion. I initially set up my full name as my first name, and it based my short name on that. I'd like to change my full name in System Preferences to my first and last name. Will I run into any issues? I know messing with short names / home folder names can get messy and i assume this will be fine, but I figured I'd check.
    Thanks.

    Thank you.

  • Change full name to first letter and add a "."

I have a list of about 500 names in two separate columns, that a) I need to change the full name into the abbreviation with a period and b) need to merge these two columns.
    What I have:
    Last Name
    First Name
    Doe
    John
    What I need:
    Name
    Doe, J.
    Help is greatly appreciated!

Assuming Last name is in column A and First Name is in Column B AND "Name" is in column C:
    C1=A1&", "&LEFT(B1, 1)&"."
If you have many names in columns A and B select cell C1, then copy

  • Change full name

I changed my full name for all my active email accounts to a different last name. Now, when I select a new message, it automatically uses my old full name and current .mac address. And, in the drop down menu, a new section has been added to the end of the list, which is my old full name and .mac email address. This is the selection that is automatically chosen when a new message is created.
I've changed the name on .mac, Mail, and Addressbook. Why did it add that extra email address and why won't it make the change?

I would then reset your Mail preferences.
quit Mail and move the file homedirectory/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist to desktop. when You start Mail you'll have to go through account setup process for all your existing accounts. Make sure you enter the info exactly as it is now. once you set up the accounts they should recognize the existing mailboxes stored in homedirectory/Library/Mail.

  • Change "Full Name" in iCloud Email Preferences

I must have entered a wrong "Full Name" in my iCloud email preferences in the beginning and would like to change that. Unfortunately it always tells me: "The “Incoming Mail Server” field cannot be empty". How can I access that field? I've tried it, but it would not let me.

If you created a new iCloud account it would have a new associated iCloud email account.  You wouldn't be able to move your current @icloud.com address to the new account.

  • Mail won't let me change Full Name

Just updated to Mtn Lion and made the full migration from MobileMe to iCloud.  In the process, the "full name" on some of my Mail accts changed.  Tried to change them in Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Account Information, but the Full Name field is grey and won't allow me to change it.  Any insight on how to change my Full Name (which is my sender name) for this email acct is apreciated.  (Is it linked to my AppleID?)

I had the same problem. Here's a link to an article that gives you the instructions to change it. It fixed the problem for me. http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57509815-263/how-to-change-your-icloud-mail -full-name/

  • How to change Users name in Terminal Users.

Hi, I am trying to change my Users name from firstnamelastname to mac on my OSX10.7.5.
I went to Terminal > Users and tried to rename, however upon reboot, the Terminal > Users always brings back the folder firstnamelastname.
    How can this be changed?
I did go to Mac > Apple > System Preferences... > System > Users & Groups > Current User. This shows the firstnamelastname has been changed to Mac.
However I need the Terminal files in /Users also changed from firstnamelastname to Mac.

    Thanks for the reply.
I went to Mac > Apple > System Preferences... > System > Users & Groups > Login Options > Click the lock to make changes. > Password: > Unlock > Show fast user switching menu as > changed Full Name to Short Name > Click the lock to prevent further changes. > Apple > Restart...
The Mac still had firstnamelastname in Terminal > /Users rather than the name Mac.
I then went to Mac > Apple > System Preferences... > System > Users & Groups > Login Options > Click the lock to make changes. > Password: > Unlock > Show fast user switching menu as > changed Short Name to Full Name > Click the lock to prevent further changes. > Apple > Restart...
The Mac still had firstnamelastname in Terminal > /Users, rather than the name Mac?
I think the /Users folder with the folder firstnamelastname is some kind of permanent folder when I first set up the Mac, however I would still like to change the folder name, so maybe I need to set up the Mac like new or something...how to do that if there isn't a way of changing the folder name?

  • How can I change the "Full Name" for my iCloud account?

    Hello,
At some point in the past, iCloud started identifying me as someone else when I send emails. This incorrect name appears to be the "Full Name" setting of the email account, but when modifying the properties for the email account in Mail the field for modifying the "Full Name" setting is disabled, not allowing me to make any changes.
Where is the correct place to change the "Full Name" setting for my iCloud account?
    Thanks,
    - Josh
    <Email Edited By Host>

I believe it can be changed by going to https://appleid.apple.com/, click Manage your Apple ID, sign in with your iCloud ID, select "Name, ID and Email Addresses", then click "Edit" next to the name listed under "Your Name" and change it as desired.
Also, if you are trying to change the sender name for your iCloud email account, you'll want to go to icloud.com, sign into your account, open Mail, click the gear shaped icon on the bottom left and choose Preferences, go to the Accounts tab and enter the name you want to use in the Full Name field and click Done.  Then quit Mail (Command-Q) on your Mac and re-open it.  Your new From name should now appear in the drop-down list when you compose a new email.
(The image was removed in your post above because it showed your iCloud email address.)

  • How to change my 'full name' in Mail on iPhone?

I use a me.com address and iCloud. I successfully changed my full name in Mail on my Mac, but won't show up on mail sent from phone.

Ah, after endless searching, this popped up in "More like this" right after I posted:
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar> Select the email account with the issue and go into the Account Info area. In the Name field enter your full name.
Looks like it has to be changed locally on the phone. Thanks!
