Change google.es to google uk as my search page

I live in Spain and recently downloaded Firefox. How can I configuire Firefox to default to Google.co.uk every time I use Firefox. At present I get a mixture of English and Spanish searches When I use Firefox/Google. Kind regards Susy

In Firefox 23 versions and later the keyword.URL pref is no longer supported and it is no longer possible to specify the search engine for the location bar via the keyword.URL pref.
Current Firefox versions use the search engine that is selected in the search bar (click the search engine icon to open the drop down list) on the Navigation Toolbar for searching via the location bar and for the search engine on the about:home page.
If you want to use different search engines then you can install the Keyword Search extension to specify with search engine to use for the location bar and which search engine to use for the about:home page via the Options/Preferences windows of this extension, accessible via the about:addons page (Firefox > Add-ons).

I'm trying to change the content of a tab. Can't find info anywhere! My new tab used to come up as Google search page. Now it is Bing, and I don't want Bing. I have uninstalled the program that inadvertently put it there but Bing remains. Where is the tab control that hooks me up with Tab content?

  • Cannot change "Start Page" from the FireFox Google Search Page.

Under "tools"/"options"/"general" I've changed my homepage to Bing.com & designated this as my "start page" however whenever I open a new tab the FireFox Google Search Page always comes up and I must click the "home" icon in order to get my Bing Home Page to load. This is a step I would rather skip. What must I do to get FireFox to open immediately in my designated home page?

The home page is just what opens when you click the Home icon on the toolbar, and when you start Firefox, provided that under Options → General you've set "When Firefox starts: Show my home page".
    * [[Startup, home page and download settings]]
When you open a new tab, you normally get a grid of tiles listing recently visited sites. (From Firefox 31 onward, there's also a search box, but it uses whatever search engine you've selected in the search bar on the navigation toolbar)
    * [[New Tab Page – show, hide and customize top sites]]
    # [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/custom-new-tab/ Install Custom New Tab].
    # Open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A; Mac: Command+Shift+A), then the Extensions category.
    # Next to Custom New Tab, click the Options button.
    # Enter whatever URL you want to open in each new tab, and make sure "Place focus in URL bar" is not checked.
Strictly speaking, you don't need the above add-on to choose what opens in each new tab. But Custom New Tab allows you to decide whether focus should go to the address bar. Without the add-on, it does, so you have to first click the search box on the web page before you can start typing your search query.

  • Change google search bar to google.co.uk

    Hi
Very frustratingly the safari google search box seems to default to google.com, when I would like to have it picking up UK results through google.co.uk
Has anyone got any ideas how you would change this? Presumably you should also be able to change the default to Yahoo or some other search engine too.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi
although this can be done by changing things manually, it's not ideal & you'd likely be better looking at a third party app that will do this for you; there are quite a few.... but Safari Enhancer does what you want + other 'useful' things & is free, or rather donations are invited if you really like it.
check to see if any of the versions work on 10.0.x, if that's what you're using.

  • I have attempted to change my home page a number of times but it keeps going back to a Bing/Google search page (set up by eSnips). Where do I got to get rid of this home page that keeps poping up every time I open Firefox?

I had downloaded something from eSnips and likely I missed the "set my home page" check box. So when I opened Firefox, I ended up with this eSnips "Google/ Bing" search page.

After trying many of the suggestions found online I found that the only thing that worked was to completely uninstall firefox and re-install it again!

  • How can I default Firefox to open Google's "past year" search option every time?

    Hp 8510W "workstation" laptop.<br />
    Winxppro32<br />
    Firefox 17.0<br />
    No other OS installed.<br />
    WISH LIST...
...to set Google's default date range to "past year" under ALL circumstance. Open from desktop, open in newtab, and default to "past year" when opening a second time from Google's top toolbar.
I'm 2/3 there. That last one has me stumped.
There might be a more elegant overall fix to this problem. A single plugin perhaps. If anyone is aware of such please let me/us know. There appear to be many complex regedit and recoding suggestions, but I cannot/will-not go that deep into this just to fix this eminently simple shortcoming of Firefox/Google.
I tried the Google forums to no avail. Google, and it's forum members, just flat out do not have anything to offer here. The simplest remedy ought to be on their end but unfortunately it does not appear to be at all forthcoming.
So I got halfway there via re-setting the home page in Firefox's Tools...Options...General...
    ...Home Page: https://www.google.com/webhp?tbs=qdr:y
This defaults Google's date range to "past year" every time Google is opened from Firefox's desktop icon. 'y' can be changed to 'w' 'm' etc for week, month, etc. Default to year just works for 90 percent of my own searches.
Further, I pasted the same URL into Firefox's about:config values line for...
    browser.newtab.url; https://www.google.com/webhp?tbs=qdr:y
This enables the same "past year" defaulted Google home page to open with every new tab. That may not be for everyone, but that's my preference as well.
If I decide I need a shorter or deeper date range I can still drop down the box and choose it to override the default.... same as before..... it's just that the new default is "past year" instead of "anytime". All is good, almost.
    ===================
Like I said, that gets me 2/3 to my goal. The limitation I've discovered is that when opening any subsequent search via the present Google page's toolbar for
    Images
    Maps
    Play
    YouTube
    News
    Gmail
    Drive
    Calendar
    More
... and then returning to "search" on that same bar, Google opens in it's default "anytime" date range.
So just for the sake of eliminating the obvious I went back into about:config. I did a "Search" for "Google" and found six new likely candidates for resetting the value from Google to.....
    https://www.google.com/webhp?tbs=qdr:y
These were....in order of likelihood .....
    browser.search.defaultenginename;<br />
    https://www.google.com/webhp?tbs=qdr:y
    browser.search.order.1;<br />
    https://www.google.com/webhp?tbs=qdr:y
    browser.startup.homepage;<br />
    https://www.google.com/webhp?tbs=qdr:y
    browser.contentHandlers.types.0.title;<br />
    https://www.google.com/webhp?tbs=qdr:y
    browser.contentHandlers.types.0.uri;<br />
    https://www.google.com/webhp?tbs=qdr:y
    browser.safebrowsing.provider.0.name;<br />
    https://www.google.com/webhp?tbs=qdr:y
I went back and navigated to a new Google home page by opening it from the desktop and then navigating to "images" and then back again to "search" and discovered, to my dismay, that it still opened the Google search page with "anytime" defaulted.
Soooooo.... can anyone guide me over this last hurdle?

You can create a searchplugins folder in the Firefox Profile Folder and copy the google.xml file from that same folder in the Firefox program folder to that folder and rename the file to something like google-year.xml "Google (Year)".
This is better then to edit the original files
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder
You need to open the file in a plain text editor and change the shortname and description and add (Year) like "Google (Year)"<br />
Then you need to extend the Param line and append the code to add the tbs=qdr:y param.<br />
You should do this in all three sections (suggestion, keyword search, context search).
    <pre><nowiki><Param name="tbs" value="qdr:y"/></nowiki></pre>
Then you should see an extra search engine in you click the search engine icon on the location bar that shows the results from the past year.
Make a backup copy of the file, so you can easily restore this file if you ever need a new profile.

  • On my Macbook, with google homepage, it often begins looping onto google search page and will not allow me to access any websites either by clicking on one, or typing address in. in page

I use google as my homepage. Very often( every day at some point) when I search a subject and click on the address, a google search page come up with list of choices. When I click on address it simply returns to this page and will not let me access any websites either by clicking on them, opening in new window or tab, nor allowing me to access anything from the address line. When this occurs, it just keeps looping into this page. I clear cache, shut down, and try everything possible. Occurs very randomly and never when I first turn on the computer. ???????

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
    * Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • How to make Google-search bar to go in to localised Google-search page?

    Hi!
How do I change Google-toolbar search? In the Firefox 4.0 the Google-toolbar search was going to my localised Google page.
I'm using Finnish version of Firefox and when I search with Google toolbar, it goes to english version of the Google page.
example. I want to search from Google with language Finnish, type in some text in Google toolbar and it opens English version of the Google and results also are english-based.

I have accidently double posted this (since I didn't see that the first time I tried it posted the question).

  • How to get Google on my internet home page and not at&t

when I go into the internet on my phone AT&T window comes up instead of Google. How do I get Google to be my home page?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

When in your browser, go to 'settings'.  There should be an option to set the home page, where you can change it to whatever you want.
Out of curiosity, how did it get AT&T as a home page if you have a Verizon phone?

  • I can't get google as my default search on the home page

I wish to have google as my default search instead of bing

Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.
Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).

  • How can I get Firefox to recognize my Google settings when I try to disable Google's homepage Instant Search?

After saving my Google settings which includes turning off Google's new Instant Search, Firefox doesn't save these setttings the next time I access Google. IE Explorer recognizes my disabling of Instant Search but Firefox doesn't. I am using Firefox 3.6.

Hey, no problemo! I bestow upon you my personal white-can award for the additional info. Meanwhile, the main problem was in how my defaults were set in the Firefox area you pointed me to. Once I got there, I was able to change the defaults so Google's radio button would work. The problem was that each time I saved the Google setting, a message box would pop up that my screenreader announcing that the settings were saved. But when I reloaded Firefox, they were not saved. I don;t know if the popup message was generated by the webpage or Firefox. I think some sort of interupt message should popup from Firefox if one's settings for cookies will prevent the settings from being saved due to cookies being unsaved. Anyway, you were a big help as I am new to Windows 7 and have just switched to Firefox as it handles and solves those nasty screen "captchas" really nicely with the Webvism captcha add-on. Best regards, Grandpa Dave in CA.

  • When I click and open my Firefox browser ,it always opens to Firefox welcome page ,NOT my google search page , which is my home page , how can I fix this , I have to always have to close FF before I can search !!??

Can you help me figure out how to stop Firefox from opening to welcome page / updated window, I have to close that before I can use my google search page ,which is my homepage !!

You can start by checking the Home page setting to see if that still links to the Google Home page (http://www.google.com/firefox)
    * Tools > Options > General > Startup: Home page
You can also check the startup setting just above the home page setting.
If the home page setting isn't correct and changing it doesn't last if you close and reopen Firefox then you need to check if the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/prefs.js_file prefs.js] in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] isn't corrupted.
