Change group of user in solaris

i have a doubt as to how to change group of a user in solaris. I want to change the group of the user. Please, do the needful.

For Oracle specific questions you can try Database forum, for OS specific ones I already addressed you Create user in solaris, and Sun has its own site as well (http://www.sun.com).

  • Changing permission on "Everyone" group on "Users" folder to "No Access"

    Hello Everyone,
I need help on changing permission on "Everyone" group on "Users" folder to "No Access" using a Terminal command line.
What i'm trying to do is assign "Everyone" group to "No Access" on "User" folder to restrict other users from going to users home folder on the computer.
Right  now, when a user login he/she has the ability to view files that are not located in the documents folder
    PS
Network is configured for OD/AD, home folder is located on Dell Server
Appreciate the help, Thanks very much

You are running Oracle Linux and want to use a network volume provided by Windows 2008 to install Oracle Database.
Your problem is that you cannot set appropriate privileges on the mounted volume to perform the installation.
    Is this correct?
If yes, then as far as I know, Windows file sharing is not support, even if you fix the permission issues. Your problem is the file system, which won't be Linux ext3. NFS might be supported, but I think it is not the best idea. Have you looked into iSCSI? It will allow you to mount remote disks using SCSI protocol. You could do pretty much everything with such a mounted disk that you can do with a locally attached drive, including initializing, but instead of using the local bus, it will use the TCP/IP network.

  • [SOLVED] Problems changing primary group for user

    Hello,
I used the following command to add a new user
    # sudo useradd -m -g users -G audio,lp,optical,storage,video,wheel,games,power,scanner -s /bin/bash mel
    I think did
    #cat /etc/group
and everything looked like it should apart from the user mel was not on the users group line
    e.g.
    storage:x:95:john,mel
    scanner:x:96:john,mel
    power:x:98:john,mel
    nobody:x:99:
    users:x:100:john
    so I tried
    # sudo usermod -g users mel
    still no effect
    is this normal?

    I used
    #sudo userdel -r mel
    to remove the account
    and then used
    #sudo adduser
    and went through the prompts
by default it wanted to add the users group as primary and I accepted it
everything went fine , no errors but yet again the
    cat /etc/group shows
    storage:x:95:john,mel
    scanner:x:96:john,mel
    power:x:98:john,mel
    nobody:x:99:
    users:x:100:john
    dbus:x:81:
    interestingly if I do
    #sudo id mel
    I get
    uid=1001(mel) gid=100(users) groups=100(users),7(lp),10(wheel),50(games),91(video),92(audio),93(optical),95(storage),96(scanner),98(power)
    I am officially freaked !

  • Unable to change group text name or add person to some group texts in iOS 8

I really like the ability to change group text names as it helps me separate work group texts from personal especially when I have coworkers that have separate business phones. I'm unable to change the name of some group texts as the option is not there when I go into details. I'm also unable to add contact to the same group texts that I'm unable to change the name on. Is this a glitch or am I missing something?

    Hi CaliWingsFan,
If you are having issues with renaming and adding users to group texts, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
iOS: Force an app to close
Next, I would try restarting the iPhone -
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Group Policy - User Rights Assignments not taking effect on workstation`

Novell 5.1 SP7. ZenWorks 3.2 sp3. Windows XP Pro workstations.
In Group Policy, (Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security
Settings/Local Policies/User Rights Assignment), I have added Power Users to
the "Load and Unload device drivers" policy. However this setting is not
taking effect on my Windows XP workstations. My DLU policy for users is
configured to have the users members of the "Users" and "Power Users" groups
    on the local PC.
Other parts of Group Policy (Computer Policy/Administrative Templates) are
taking effect on the workstation, so I'm wondering if the problem I am
having is related to Security Settings only.
I enabled Group Policy logging on the Windows XP workstation and include it

  • This advertised application will not be installed because it might be unsafe. Contact your administrator to change the installation user interface option of the package to basic.

    Hi there,
I was wondering whether anyone could tell me which feature in Windows 7 produces this message "This advertised application will not be installed because it might be unsafe. Contact your administrator to change the installation user interface option of
the package to basic." and whether it can be turned off in Windows to prevent this message from appearing when installing certain programs that aren't WHQL certified. At first I thought it was the UAC control that generated this message but found out
that it wasn't and then thought it was the DEP control and found out that it wasn't this either. I'm only seem to be getting this message when installing FileDirector Component Service Version 3 on a few of our workstations which is an add-on that allows file
integration with Office and is part of FileDirector WinClient Version 3.
Your help would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    RocknRollTim
P.S. I know of a way to bypass this message but would ideally not like to have the feature turned on and for the message not to be appear for non WHQL certified program installations in order to make non WHQL certified program installations in the future much
easier, more simpler and straightforward to carry out. I was redirected by a moderator off the Microsoft Community Forum.

    Hi,
You can try following options to disable this prompt, but we don't recommend you to do so since this feature helps you to protect your computer.
Option 1: Run command as admin:
    bcdedit -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
    bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON
Restart your computer to apply changes.
    Option 2: Disable in GPO:
1.Type gpedit.msc in the Run dialog and press Enter.
2.In the Group Policy Editor, navigate to User Configuration → Administrative Templates → System → Driver Installation.
3.Double-click on Code signing for device drivers in the right-side pane as shown above.
4.In the windows that opens, choose Enabled. In the Options, choose Ignore as shown. Then click on the OK button to save the settings.
Restart your computer to apply changes.

  • [SOLVED]MPD and PulseAudio: cannot init supplementary groups of user

I used to run mpd as a seperate user "mpd" but after installing pulseaudio as a requirment for gnome 3, I had to make it run as my user or run pulseaudio system wide (What is wrong with system mode) after changing all mpd files permisions and updating /etc/mpd.conf i still get this error
    [jacob@BlackWater ~]$ mpd
listen: bind to '0.0.0.0:6600' failed: Address already in use (continuing anyway, because binding to '[::]:6600' succeeded)
daemon: cannot init supplementary groups of user "jacob": Operation not permitted
mpd continues to run though however when attempting to play anything i get this error
    problems opening audio device
I found a fourm with the same problem marked solved but could not find what they did

    [jacob@BlackWater ~]$ mpd
listen: bind to '0.0.0.0:6600' failed: Address already in use (continuing anyway, because binding to '[::]:6600' succeeded)
this is not actually an error. It just says it bound to your ipv6 interface before it could be bound to ipv4 interface. Define your binding statically in mpd.conf with
    bind_to_address "127.0.0.1"
daemon: cannot init supplementary groups of user "jacob": Operation not permitted
you are running mpd as user, altho you should be running it as root
if you want to run it as user, make sure to remove the user line from mpd.conf
    problems opening audio device
I can only guess here. You are saying you have pulseaudio. Did you configure the pulseaudio output in mpd.conf?
if you do so, make sure to comment out the alsa output. If you want to use the alsa output with your pulseaudio server, make sure you have pulseaudio-alsa installed

  • Create user in solaris

i have a doubt about how to create a user on solaris.
    I gave the command :-
    useradd -g oinstall -d /u01/mediate mediate
It creates the user but then i give
    # su - mediate
    su: No directory!
It is probably not create the home directory for the user, so, is not able to do change user. Please, do the needful as i need it very urgently.

Said that this is not the best forum for such a question (I'd try with Generic Linux) you may try using "-m" option.
"man useradd" may also be useful.

  • Huge list of Groups in Users and Groups

I just upgraded SL to ML. I've been learning and setting things up.
I use the machine as a standard user and I have a "silent" admin user, too.
I was wondering if anyone has come across this?  I went into System Preferences and noticed that there was a HUGE list of Groups.  Some had "logical" names like admin server, etc.  The list was super long.  Some of the name were strange, like "umbg"  I have no idea how they got there.  And, searching here, and googling doesn't give me any info.
I don't know how all these groups got there.  I did not add a single one.
I did make a mistake, because I deleted them all and then ML made my admin user a standard user and I could not unlock System Preferences, or use my password anywhere.  ugh.
I tried finding a way to fix it, but I ended up just using Restore from disk utility. no worries, didn't have that much going on, yet.
Is it normal to have a list of groups that you did not create?  Does ML just create groups in your Users and Groups list??
How do I take care of it if it happens again?  Can some be deleted?  If so, which ones?  What are they for?
Thanks for any help with this.

Okay, I did do the restore.
And, the groups were not there.
So, first off, I opened TinkerToolSystem and went through all thes options.  I found one: Show Groups in users and groups.  I made sure it was not checked.  Hopefully, it will not repopulate.
Then I remembered something.  I did download Onyx.  I was just looking for a way to change something simple.  Mostly, I just looked around, didn't click on buttons, etc.  But, Onyx may have change this setting (or me using Onyx inadvertently).  Whichever, whatever, I've used TinkerToolSystem for years and it's always worked so well.  I think I'm sticking with it and not install Onyx - which I had to go through the Gatekeeper exception deal... so it makes me nervous.
I'll post back if further issues with this.

  • Change group uniqueID to objectGUID

    Hello,
we have a portal installation based on Netweaver 2004s/Windows. We also use an corporate ADS for the user authentication. Further we use the ADS-groups to set permissions and roles for a group of users.
Because of the fact that the unique ID of the ADS group is in standard structured like this: <Principal_Type>.<Home_Data_Source_ID>.<Uniquename> i.e. USER.CORP_LDAP.uid=miller,ou=research,o=sap, it's problematic to rename a ADS-group because all assigned roles get lost.
That's why we think of using the ADS-attribute objectGUID as the uniqueID for the group.
But it is only possible to change the Uniquename. But if I do this, I cannot find any group by name search with the Identity Management.
Is it possible to change the structure of the attribute uniqueID? I can't find anything about that in the help.
    Thank you!
    Best Regards
    Frank

  • Windows 7 Elevating using UAC, does not change the standard users setting, it runs the Admins settings

When elevating privilege for a standard user using an admin account, the UAC runs the application under the admins account "user" and not the standard users account "user", the problem is that doing so, it does not change the standard
    users settings
In this example, trying to change the "Check for Updates Automatically" as the standard user, is grayed out, you have to be an admin to change this. This is a design of Java.
When you right click and run as an administrator, the option is no longer grayed out and can be deselected, however, this only changes that setting for the admins specific "user", not the standard users specific "user" the admin is elevating
    privilege for. as illustrated below.
Is there a work around for an admin to run his credentials but elevate the standard users session instead of his own or some other way to set the standard users setting when admin credentials are required?

    Hi,
Based on your description, I understand that you want to disable
Check for Updates Automatically option for standard users in Java.
You can achieve this target by editing
EnableJavaUpdate registry entry. For more details, please refer to following articles and check if can help you.
(Please back up before that registry operation. That will help us to avoid unexpected issues.)

  • Cannot change anything in user account and family safety, even logging as an administrator account.

My 1st user account was an administrator account, 2nd user account was a standard account. 3rd user account was a guest account of window 8 single language, however i accidentally made a mistake by setting guest account from standard account to become an
administrator account. I also set down the 1st user account from administrator to standard account and after these stupid settings, the guest account becomes administrator account anyone can access in without any password, the 1st and 2nd accounts become standard
accounts! Before this mistake, the 1st user account was the main account of mine, 2nd and 3rd (guest account) were logged in very rarely.
The problem is when i logged in guest account as administrator, i cannot set the 1st or 2nd back to become another administrator account. Something has gone strange, it has been prevented me to set the others to be administrator and the guest back to standard
account. Being as an administrator account, the guest account was totally useless in changing settings. When i logged in with 1st and 2nd account, i also cannot change anything in the user account settings (change type of user account) and family safety, all
attempts to change the user account settings was useless such as i never tried. I also tried "refresh your computer without losing files" but not worked. Please provide me some advices!
I did not find the forum for win 8 single language, so i place my question here.

Thanks for your reply. I tried to go to safe mode of win 8 by holding the shift key while clicking "restart" on the login screen. (My login screen now shows 3 account users). Then i chose troubleshoot -> advanced options -> windows startup
settings-> i went to safe mode. The safe mode only showed a complete black screen with an only window: "Administrator: cmd.exe". I did as you said (typing NETPLWIZ) and the User accounts window appeared. I went to "properties" of each
user account and set 1st and 2nd accounts to Administrator but got the error: "This user cannot be added. Access is denied." and another error window: "Usert accounts: the group membership for ... could not be updated."
Yesterday, i went to elevated command prompt as an administrator and typed "net user administrator /active:yes" with hope that the built-in administrator would be activated and i would use it for full control settings of 3 other user accounts.
But i got the error: "system error 5. Access is denied."
Now, my position is quite bad. Login with guest account which was set as administrator, i still can not have full control of this laptop, so that all attempts of mine to change the user account settings is denied. This guest account also does not have a
password at all so that everyone can open my computer without typing a password. Because access is denied, i cannot set a password for the guest account even now it is the administrator account and i am loging in it.
p/s: I tried to refresh the system but still got the error: "There was a problem refreshing your PC. No changes were made". And i also tried to restore the system, but got the error: "System restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's
system files and settings were not changed. Details: A volume shadow copy service component encountered an unexpected error. Check the Application event log for more information (0x80042302)"
I went in registry editor in safe mode and did as you said but there was no "AutoAdminLogon", "DefaultUserName", "DefaultPassword". I only saw "AutoLogonSID" and other different names...
The problem i got half year ago has still remained and recently i made this mistake. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/8ebd868c-bdfd-412e-95a6-9dc0095d431c/cannot-paste-any-online-pictures-from-any-websites-into-wordpowerpointonenote-2013?forum=officeitpro
I am a young woman who always creates mistakes when setting computer because of my carelessness.
    Hi,
These phenomenon should be access rights problem, you need to check your current system User Accounts status. In my opinion, your administrator account probably disabled.
Open Run, type LUSRMGR.MSC, press Enter.
Then check your current system account which Group they are belongs to.
If there is any progress, please feel free let me know.
