Change iCal default alert.

Is it possible to change the default alert in iCal to email with Mac OS X Lion?

I see that with the introduction of Mavericks that they did not introduce the opportunity to set default alerts in their new Calendar upgrade, which I imagine would help a lot of people and would be relatively easy to create.
I like to have an email alert for every Calendar event in my Inbox (the best way for me not to miss any event) and at the moment with Mavericks Calendar it takes 4 clicks every time I set up a new event to achieve this, which os a real pain. It is even more clicks than Mountain Lion.
Does anyone know a workaround to achieve that until they write the software.
Does anyone else have this problem too?

  • Change ical defaults

Whenever I set up a new meeting in ical, it defaults to "all day" and sets up an alert for 1370 minutes before.
I looked in "Preferences" and can't find where these defaults are set up.  Worse, if I try to change the alert to, say 30 minutes before and then click "Done" it is not saved and reverts back to 1370 minutes.  I can clear the "All day" box and set the start/end times OK.
Can  anyone tell me where these defaults are set up and how to change them?

    restonstu,
Click Add at the top of the iCal window or press Command (⌘)-N.Events are added automatically to your default calendar.
If you want to choose a different calendar for the event, hold down the Add button (+), and then choose a calendar.
To change your default calendar, choose iCal > Preferences, click General, and then select a calendar from the Default Calendar pop-up menu.
Enter a name, date, and time duration for the event, and then press Return. For example, you can enter “Super Bowl Party Feb 6,” “Movie with Rebecca on Friday at 7pm,” “Soccer Game on Saturday from 11am-1pm,” or “Breakfast with Jon,” and then press Return.
If you don’t enter a time duration for the event, iCal sets the event’s duration to 1 hour.
If you don’t enter any time information for the event, iCal makes the event an all-day event.
If you enter “breakfast” or “morning,” iCal sets the event to start at 9 a.m.
If you enter “lunch “ or “noon,” iCal sets the event to start at 12 p.m.
If you enter “dinner” or “night,” iCal sets the event to start at 8 p.m.
To set any other event options (for example, to set your event to repeat, add an alert, or invite others to the event), make your changes in the event’s editor, and then click Done.

  • ICal default alert always Message with Sound? (10.7.3)

Please, can I have an option to change this setting? If I set the preferences to generate an alert with new events, it always has 2 alerts, one message and one sound (I think it is a recording of one of the mechanical parts of a MBP breaking ). Is that normal behaviour. I see it independent of the backend (local calendar, Exchange, Google, you name it.) Message is fine, but I don't want (any) sound.

I have the same problem, but I'm not using MobileMe. When I create an event in my iPhone4 (IOS4.1) with an alert, I want this event to show up in iCal with an alert of "Message with sound" after syncing with iTunes. Otherwise I have to check every new event that I created on my iPhone again on my Mac to change the alert type. Probably some people want it otherwise and would rather have the "Message" (without sound) type of alert, so the best thing would be to have the choice between sound or no sound on the iPhone when entering a new event with an alert.

  • ICal Default Alarm Settings - Change?

I use iCal for most everything, and i would like to change the default settings on the reminders.  Currently, it defaults to ALL DAY, on the current day and no alram...as i prefer to see all my reminders in the morning, i would like to change the default to something more conveninet....any idea's on how to achieve this???

.....And while you are responding to McCaffertee's issue, which I would like to resolve as well, also tell us how to change  the default alert sound from Basso (the most annyoing one) to something else.
    Thank you.

  • Change default alert time in Calendar

Is there a way to change the default alert time in Calendar to something different than 9:00 AM? I realize I can do it directly in the calendar entry itself, but I want the default to be a different time and not have to correct it every time I create an entry.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Michael, starting with Mavericks, the Preferences in Calendar do not allow you to change the default time from 9:00 AM to any other time. The only way to modify the alert time is on an entry-by-entry basis using "Custom...". I want the default time to be something other than 9:00 AM so I don't have to change it in every entry.

  • Silencing the default alert in Calendar App (Mountain Lion)

For the newly named Calendar App (was iCal), default alerts behaviour seems to have changed in 10.8 Mountain Lion as compared with iCal in Lion.
Through preferences, it is possible to specify a default alert. I would like to make that alert silent by default (the Basso sound jars). In iCal, before Mountain Lion, this little hack achievd this by making the specified alarm silent: link
Anyone have an equivalent solution for Calendar App in Mountain Lion or experience of using this hack in Mountain Lion?

Does the Alerts tab in your Calendar preferences pane have a "Play a sound" checkbox? If so, will unchecking slience the alerts?
Or, in Notification Center, there's a setting to turn off Calendar sounds.
My issue is that I seem to be missing the "Play a sound" checkbox I described above (see pic for what it *should* look like). Anyone else have this issue?

  • Customize Default Alerts

    Hello all,
I have been searching here in the forum and in Google for some information about the Forms built-in Alert.
I want to change the title, message, image and background color from some of the default Alerts that the Forms 10g has, like "Do you want to save the changes you have made".
There is a list of all default Alerts names or/and id's? Where can i find it?
Is it possible to change those default Alerts? How can i do it?
    Best regards,
    Pedro.

    Thanks BaiB for your reply,
The functionality of the application i'm working on it's not a problem. I'm updating an entire stable application to a more modern, prettier layout.
I'm changing the "Look and Feel" of an entire application (which has more than 2000 forms), using the Oracle LAF Project. To change some triggers, on each form to catch ALL standard Forms errors possible will be at least painstaking. That is why i'm searching another solution for my problem. I would like to know if it is another workaround for this. And i'm curious about the management of those standard Alerts, how are they called and where are they located? Can i use the built-in set_alert_properties(), if so what is the Alert_Id of those Alerts, there is any list of the internal Forms alerts name and ID?
I want also to know if i can "catch" an standard alert before or after it pops-up, is there any global or system variable that indicates that a standard Forms alert has been fired?
Any enlightenment will be highly appreciated.
    Best Regards
    Pedro.

  • How to change default alerts in iCal?

    Hello.
Every time you add a new event in iCal, the Info panel of the event contains a series of default alerts that you may want to add to it. However, all of them are useless to me (e.g.: "Send email to <my address> 4 days after), so I need to manually edit them event by event. Anybody knows how to change them? I have already inspected all the plist files related to ical, and looked inside the ical package content, but I found no indication of where to change these values. Using iCal version 5.0.2
    Thanks,
    l

John: Thank you, this is exactly what I wanted. I was indeed inspecting the plist with bbedit, but what I did not realize is that the file has some parts which are binary, so I could not see the PersistentMenu-lastUsedAlarms part by using a text editor. I opened it with Xcode and I did find what you were saying, and erased all the junk that was in there. In fact, the issue I had was also described here:
    http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive/Uk/uk.comp.sys.mac/2010-06/msg02349.html
For some reason, it looks like after some upgrade the program adds were some positive values in the plist and I was stuck with default alarms that were set *after* the events I wanted to set an alarm for.
I did what you suggested, then added by hand new values to the PersistentMenu part of the plist, and I am now happy.
For everybody's information, to know what I did, it is enough to know to add Dictionary items to the  PersistentMenu-lastUsedAlarms, with 3 fields:
-- AlarmTypeKey (this determines if you want a sound, or else an email, or else the other default alarm type keys. For example, sending an email is a Number, value 4; having a message with sound is a Number, value 3)
-- AlarmDurationKey: This is a Number, in seconds, that determines when you want your alarm to trigger. E.g: -172800 will be two days before. Must be negative for "before", of course)
-- AlarmParameterKey: This is a String, where you store the value that you want the alarm to have. For example, if you want an email to be sent, the AlarmTypeKey will be 4, as explained above, and this field will contain your email address. Instead, if you want the alarm to be a sound, the AlarmTypeKey will be 3 and this field will have the name of the sound you want (e.g., Basso).
That's it. Thanks a lot for the solution!

  • How do you set/change the default alarm TYPE in iCal?

I like to think I'm a power user, but this one I just can't figure out.  The question/problem is: How do you sent the default alarm TYPE in iCal?  The problem is illustrated in the picture below in the blue circled area.
Specifically, whenever I set a new event in iCal, it defaults to this window with the default alert being "Default (1 hour before)."  The one hour before is fine, but the problem is, WHAT is the default?  It seems to be just a sound, but that's not good enough to actually alert me of anything.
The goal I'm trying to achieve with this post is to determine how to CHANGE the "default" new event alert FROM "Default (1 hour before)" TO one of two alerts that I actually find useful:  I want MY "default" new event alert to be either "email" to the primary address, OR, "Message with Sound".
    Any ideas, folks?  Thanks.

Understand.  I am in the edit mode for my contact.  I see all the contact info.  There is no right click or other means to change the DEFAULT address that autofill uses (it also is first to appear if I type my name in an e-mail). For instance for a group e-mail you can change the default addresses of each contact by control-clicking on the group in Address Book. I can't seem to make the default change in my v-card.

  • Can I set a default alert type in iCal?

For some reason all new events in my iCal (whether I create them, or someone invites me) have two alerts set by default:
    1. Email (10 minutes before)
    2. Message (10 minutes before)
I don't want either of these as my default, but I can't figure out how to change it. Is it possible to set a default alert type/time?

    OS 10.7.2
The calendar in question is CalDAV (from Google calendar)

    Hi,
In iCal the default alarm type is "message with sound". You cannot change the type of alarm but you can change the offset of it.

  • How change default alert in Calendar?

    Hello
Because the default sound "Basso" isn't the best alert sound for me I want to change the default sound of Calendar items in Mountain Lion.
I was able to do this in the past, with Lion, but unfortunately this isn't possible anymore I see...
Changing the com.apple.iCal.plist file doesn't help, since this plist file doesn't exist anymore.
And despite what I saw on several websites (see http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/80_os_x_mountain_lion_tips_and_tricks#slid e-3), I can't change this in Calendar neither (see image here below)
I checked the settings in notification centre, where I can choose to have sound alerts for calendar, or not, but cannot adapt the default sound.
    Can you please help?

    Hi,
here is a solution that is working for me in 10.9.5 (thanks to Wakko from http://iszene.com/thread-165772-post-1927711.html#pid1927711)
    (Make TimeMachine backup)
    Quit calendars
Go to ~/Library/Calendars. Here, for each calendar there is a folder with its UUID (i. e. 9C36543C-8BA1-4264-8E3F-C1BB9FB207BE.calendar). To find out what calendar it is referring to open info.plist within it. Chose the calendar's folder you want to change the alarm sound for. It should also be containging the folder /LocalDefaultAlarms with the two files EventAllDayAlarms.icsalarm and EventTimedAlarms.icsalarm. If it does not open calendars and create a test event in that calendar. Go to 2.
Open EventAllDayAlarms.icsalarm and EventTimedAlarms.icsalarm. Find the line ATTACH;VALUE=URI:basso and change basso to the sound you like. I had to place the sound file in /System/Library/Sounds.
(By the way: If you want to change the default hour for alerts for all day events, change TRIGGER:-PT15H accordingly. PT stands for pacific time, -PT15H means 9 AM (15 hours before beginning of the day).)
    Reboot
EventAllDayAlarms.icsalarm and EventTimedAlarms.icsalarm are re-created and reset to basso each time calendar prefs are saved. So, in order to prevent overwriting your manual settings accidentally, set them to read only.
    Good luck!

  • How do i remove the default alerts in ical?

I received my MacBook Pro yesterday, and I am a first time Mac user. The operating system is the lion one.
I have been setting up my calendar (ical) today, and have noticed that it automatically sets up 'alerts' to email me prior to the event, as well as display a message. I do not want to receive any alerts for my events, and would like to remove this from automatically assuming that I do.
Any help would be much appreciated, as it's quite infuriating receiving emails for events that I'm already at.
    Tim

    Hi,
Thanks for your help, but that's not quite what I was asking (edit: perhaps I didn't say it clearly)
I don't want to have to change these settings for every event, and therefore I am curious how/if I can change the default settings for events so that this is not automatically assumed.

  • How to change the default view of published iCal's URL

I am publishing an iCal for a nonprofit group and link to the calendar from the group's website. The default URL given (in the send publish email option) leads to the week view of the current week. I would prefer the link to take site visitors to the month view of the calendar. If I go to the month view and copy the URL for it, and use that for the link, I have to change the URL each month, because the URL that comes from the month view will only show the month it was at the time I copied the URL -- it will not change with the new month. Does anyone have any idea of how I can change the URL so that it leads to the month view of whatever the current month is?
I should note that I know how to change the default view in the my browser, but I would rather not have to explain how to do this to all the people viewing the calendar -- just wanting the correct month view to show up when they click the link, without having to change it each month.
I would be so grateful if anyone has some insight on this!
    Thanks.

    Carlo,
The fact that this question has been left unanswered for over 2 months seems a little negligent on the part of Apple Support.
This Forum is unfortunately not Apple Support. According to Apple:
What is Apple Discussions and how can it help me?
"Apple Discussions is a user-to-user support forum where experts and other Apple product users get together to discuss Apple products. If you have a technical question about an Apple product, be sure to check out Apple's support resources first by consulting the application Help menu on your computer and visiting our Support site to view articles and more on our product support pages."
In direct response to your questions, I would say that (as observed by the OP) anyone who subscribes to a published calendar can make a change to their desired view using the "Preferences" icon which is displayed underneath the mini-month calendars.
There is no way that I know of to directly or conveniently change the time-range. There may be workarounds, but I could not find a suitable solution for you.
I would recommend that you provide iCal Feedback, if you are interested in informing Apple of your desires.

  • Can you change the DEFAULT VIEW of a published iCal to MONTH VIEW?

Can you change the DEFAULT VIEW of a published iCal to MONTH VIEW? I use this for a vacation rental and people never ever ever ever need to see anything but the MONTH VIEW. I hate having to tell them to click MONTH view at the top of the page. Is there a way to force it to always appear in MONTH? Thanks!

    ddotcom,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately no, but if they are repeat viewers why not tell them to change their view to "Monthly" using the "Preferences" button on that page?
