In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Yes you can continue to use the former ID for the iTunes Store.
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

  • HT204053 changing icloud account on iphone?

Hello! So, when I activated my iphone, icloud was set up using my parents' apple id. I haven't yet used icloud, but I want to, just not with their id. Is there a way to change my apple id associated with icloud without deleting my parents' account?

However, i also have my contacts linked to another email on my phone, and i would certainly back them up somewhere else before deleting the account just in case! :-)
FYI, deleting an iCloud account will not effect contacts of other data associated with another non-iCloud account such as Gmail, Yahoo, exchange, etc.  It only removes iCloud data (unless you elect to keep it on your device when prompted).

  • TS3988 Change iCloud account on iPhone

My iPhone iCloud account is set up under an old email. Have changed email and updated through Apple online but can't get the change to happen on iPhone. There doesn't seem to be any way to overwrite the email address that's already on iPhone in iCloud Setting. Sort of a problem if I want to use Find my iPhone!

To change the iCloud ID ("email address") you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.
When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this happens, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go tohttps://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back tohttps://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Changing iCloud account on iPhone won't work.

I just changed my Apple ID username and password on my mac pro which changed my iCloud account settings. But when I try and change the iCloud settings on my iPhone to match the mac pro it won't let me because I need to enter the old account's password which virtually doesn't exist anymore.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Dustin,
You need to do the following to get your new Apple ID on the iPhone:
    1.     Go to Manage Your Apple ID and sign in with your current Apple ID. Then edit the Apple ID and change it back to the old email address. This is temporary. Do NOT verify it. Do NOT change the password. Apple - My Apple ID
    2.     Go to Settings>iCloud on your phone and scroll to the bottom and click on Delete Account. When it asks for your password, type in the current Apple ID password, then follow the prompts to delete the account.
    3.     Go back to Manage your Apple ID and sign in and edit your Apple ID back to the new email address (you may need to verify it again).
    4.     Go back to Settings>iCloud and sign on with the new Apple ID.
    You should be all set!

  • Changing iCloud account on iPhone 4

How do I change the iCloud account on my iPhone 4 without deleting my photo stream and whatever else it may delete in the process?

    Thank you Chris!
Here's a little clarification..let me know if it changes your response at all:
-For whatever reason, my photos aren't transferring from my phone to my laptop.
-The iCloud account currently on my phone is my ex-boyfriend's; the issue is that we're seeing each other's phots through our phones.  No good.  haha  So, I'd like to keep the photos that are on my phone, on my phone, yet switch the iCloud account to mine instead of his.
    Does that change anything?
    Thanks!

I created a new apple ID and want to use this new apple ID for imessage, icloud etc.

So back it up first if you are concerned.
All iCloud data will be removed from your Mac when you logout (you can't delete the account) , it will be retained in the iCloud account and can be restored by logging in again.

  • Hot to change icloud account on iphone 4s

When I go into settings - iCloud, and try to delete my account, it asks for the password for my old account which no longer exists. I also can't create a new account with my new details.
Basically, when I got my phone I created my account using my (at the time) email details. Since then I have changed my email and updated my Apple ID with iTunes and also iCloud (on the pc). However, my phone keeps coming up with a warning telling me I need to verify my password for my account, but the account email it's showing is my old one. As I can't remember the password for my old email address I tried to reset it but Apple keep telling me there is no account with my old email details, which makes sense as I've amended my account to have my new details.
My iCloud account on my phone shows my old email address but I'm unable to amend it. Please help.
    Thanks in advance.

If the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

If it is your iCloud mail address you want to change, you can't.

You need to delete the account and add it back using the other account info. If you delete the account, the information in iCloud will be removed from your device but not from iCloud.
