Change icon of folder on Bookmark Toolbar

I miss Favicon Picker. I use folders on my Bookmark Toolbar, and now they all look the same. Is there a way to change them without having to know CSS?

Favicon released a new version that works with the latest FireFox (31.2.0)
You can download/install it from here:

  • Why do the changes I make on my bookmark toolbar also change my wife's Mac safari?

After my wife got a new Mac, and I got her hand-me-down, I noticed that every time she makes a change to her Safari's bookmark toolbar, it shows up on mine.  And vice versa.
How can we make that stop?  I thought I unconnected every one of her accounts, and re-opened on my own apple accounts, but I must have missed something.

I have the same exact problem. let me know if you figured anything out

  • Option to create new folder on bookmarks toolbar by right-clicking is missing

The title says it all. This option has been available forever and recently it has gone missing -- it is not listed in the context menu. I can still create new folders that appear on the bookmarks toolbar by going to:
Bookmarks-->"Show All Bookmarks" and then right-clicking on the "Bookmarks Toolbar" heading
The right-click option is still available there. But it is also missing when I go to Bookmarks and right-click on "Bookmarks Toolbar". The option is listed in the context menu but it is greyed out.
I have not made any changes to FF in recent memory, although I do not pay much attention to automatic updates. This is not urgent. It was just a convenient option and it has disappeared for no apparent reason.

Thanks. That had some effect. The option to create a new folder is no longer greyed out in the context menu when I navigate to:
    Bookmarks-->"Bookmarks Toolbar"
and right click on the latter. However, the action does not work and the option is still missing from the context menu of the bookmarks toolbar itself.

  • I cannot get icons only on my bookmarks toolbar. Text always shows.

I transferred all my files and desktop from an older mac. I had downloaded an 'icons only'bookmarks toolbar as an add on, which I loved. This toolbar did not move as icons only, and is no longer available as a download. It looks like icons only is now firefox default for a bookmarks toolbar, but mine is stuck on icons+text. I have followed your instructions to customize toolbar, but nothing changes. I have also tried restore defaults and nothing changes. I would like to remove this old toolbar and start over with your icons only in 6.0, but cannot figure out how to do it.

  • Installed Firefox 4 on Mac OS X 10.6.7. (1) How can I delete icons it added to bookmarks toolbar so they'll all fit again? (2) Where is the Organize Bookmarks tool now?

Don't know what details you might want.

I'm not sure about the 'icons' added to bookmarks toolbars, but you can control your bookmarks using "Show All Bookmarks". That replaced 'Organize Bookmarks'. It will open the bookmark library & you should be able to rearrange, add, delete, etc from here.

  • Change Icon DMG folder

On my desktop i made a dmg folder to password protect files.
I waned to change the Icon to let it look more fancy. I tried to move an image to the icon in the info window of the DMG-folder. Now the icon is even uglier cause it looks like a jpeg file (shown on desktop and info-window) saying what kind of file it is (jpeg) but not the real image i wanted.
Any tips how to get the image icon on this folder?
    Thanks!

I'm not sure what you did, but try it this way if you haven't already:
Open the .jpg file of the desired image in Preview, and from Preview type Command-A (to select the entire image) , then Command-C (to copy it). Then do a Get Info on your .dmg (either the .dmg file itself or its mounted disk volume, as you wish), click on the small icon at the top left of its Get Info window, and type Command-V (to paste in the custom icon).
P.S.: A .dmg is a disk image file, not a folder.

  • I have created a folder in "Bookmarks Toolbar" and I want to open all sites saved into the folder into separate window, instead of opening them into tabs, how do i do that?

I want to open multiple sites in NEW firefox window, as soon as I click on the folder from "Toolbar menu". I can see a option there "Open all in tabs". Is it possible to set one more option "Open all in new windows"

THANK YOU! So easy, now I feel stupid. ;)
Sorry, Firefox 4.0 is driving me nuts in many ways, this is just one of them.

  • I lost my icons in my Bookmark toolbar?

I installed an add-on from amazon.com for a toolbar, but i didn't like it. I uninstalled the add-on and now my bookmark toolbar has no icons, just grey text. I've uninstalled/re-installed Firefox, deleted my localstore.rdf file, tried customizing and I'm at my wits end. How can I get my small icons back on my bookmark toolbar?

  • How do I remove the bookmark toolbar icons for websites? After updating to Firefox 22, add-ons don't help.

In the Bookmark Toolbar, the icons for websites take up too much space and are distracting. I used to use the Bookmarks - Deiconizer add-on but after updating to Firefox 22 it doesn't work anymore.
I tried adjusting the userChrome.css as in other posts but that does not work.
    Please help!

    Hi haweyext,
Did you see this thread from yesterday:
[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/964732 How do I keep the icons out of my Bookmarks Toolbar (tried Bookmarks Deiconizer) even after downloading files?]
If userChrome.css isn't working (note: you need to exit and restart Firefox before it takes effect), you can apply that rule to Firefox using the Stylish extension instead.
    Does any of that help?

  • Icons Only On Bookmarks Toolbar

How can I just have Icons only on my bookmarks toolbar?
I have it selected in "Customise", but they still show as Icons & Text.
FF3.6 was fine, but since upgrading to FF4, I can't seem to get it to work.

Add code to [http://kb.mozillazine.org/UserChrome.css userChrome.css] below the @namespace line.
    <pre><nowiki>@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */
    #personal-bookmarks .toolbarbutton-text { display:none !important; }

  • Bookmark Toolbar entries not showing up in blank space allocated for them under Navigation Toolbar.

Using Firefox 3.6.13 and 4.0b8. Both are not showing up my Bookmark Toolbar entries. The item does exist. I've used Firefox for years and that toolbar has always showed up. Confirmed that it still exists and was not inadvertently trashed by viewing item and listing when opting to Manage Bookmarks. The item is checked off for display in the menu drop-down (View-Toolbars-Bookmark Toolbar), the space where it would normally display my entries shows up directly under the Navigation Toolbar, but it is blank with no entries displayed.

In the View menu select Toolbars, and then Customize to open the customize toolbar dialog. With the customize toolbar dialog displayed, there should be an icon with the label "Bookmarks Toolbar Items" on the bookmarks toolbar. If it is not there, drag and drop the icon called Bookmarks from the customize toolbar dialog onto the bookmarks toolbar. There will be 2 icons called Bookmarks, the one you want will have an icon that looks like a sheet of paper (it does on Windows, I believe it is the same on the Mac).

  • I turned the Bookmarks Toolbar (BT) back on per posted instructions (Relax...!) and no BT appeared. I've also lost the Organize Bookmarks option in the Bookmarks menu. I'm using a Mac 10.5.8. Restoring back to Firefox 3.6.whatever didn't help.

Upgraded to Firefox 4.0 earlier this week (4/11/11). Have been using and recommending Firefox for years (in spite of the websites that don't work well on it) but liked very little of the new 4.0 look (flat, colorless, buttons not very visible against theme graphics...) Do like the new Zoom buttons (thank you for that!), but re-arranged all buttons immediately. Don't like Tabs on Top - changed that - and turned the Bookmarks Toolbar (BT) on as well. Tabs shifted correctly, but no BT appeared... The Bookmarks sidebar works fine, but I no longer have Organize Bookmarks in the Bookmarks menu.
Today (4/16/11), after trying to revive the BT several times, researching problem in support, trying out the App Tab (OK, but not a substitute for BT), I restored to previous version of Firefox. The window looked like what I remembered, except the BT was gone. Aaarrgh! I've done nothing else to Firefox or my Mac recently.

  • How can I temporarily move some bookmarks from Bookmarks Toolbar

I've got one folder on Bookmark Toolbar with many bookmarks in it. I don't need it now but don't want to delete it either. The best solution would it be to move this folder with bookmarks to e.g. the MyDocuments folder, which is residing on another partition. When I need it in the future, then I'd like to move this folder back to Bookmark Toolbar. In Internet Explorer such operations are very simple to perform. How can I achieve this goal in Firefox?

The Bookmarks Folder is really one data file in the user profile directory.
The best thing you can do is to export your bookmarks to a HTML file.
Then open that file in a editor to remove what you want.
    Open the '''Bookmarks Manager.'''
Press the '''Alt''' or '''F10''' key to bring up the tool bar. Then select
    '''Bookmarks.''' Hot key is '''<Control>''(Mac:<Command>)'' <Shift> B.'''
Once the window is open, at the top of the page, press the button labeled
'''Import and Backup.''' Select '''Export Bookmarks To HTML,''' and follow
the prompts and save it to a '''HTML''' file.

  • I want to assign and change bookmark icons on my bookmark toolbar

Some websites automatically assign an icon when I add them to my bookmark bar. For brevity sake, I delete the description so I can have more bookmarks lined up across the top of the browser page. Other websites do not generate an icon (its an icon of a blank page, a generic default setting I suppose). I want to be able to assign an icon for my bookmarks that do not have a unique icon.

If you want to have a less crowded Bookmarks Toolbar then I don't think that you can assign icons.
However you can create folders to put bookmarks in. That way, you can still put in a description if you want to, without having to give up Toolbar space. To create a folder:
    1. Right-click the Toolbar
    2. Select the 'New Folder...' option (near the top)
    3. Fill in the name (and description if you wish)
    4. Click 'Add'
    * You can now add bookmarks to that folder by draging and droping them onto it
    * You can edit a folder by right-clicking on it and selecting 'Properties...', changing it to how you want it and clicking 'Save'
'''If this was the answer you were looking for, please click 'Solved' -- Thanks.'''
